Holm Peaks, once the place that housed her home and tribe but now the place she said farewell to. Keeping her cloak tight and her hood up Aurora sat in a tree just outside the walls. She thought she was ready to go but now that she was here it was difficult to convince herself to forward.
Her family was left behind unaware of her departure. All but her eldest brother rather, and he was not very happy with the idea. In fact if he knew she actually left he would likely rampage his way here to bring her back. As she thought about this she found herself frantically looking around the woods. Was he following her? Would he be here soon? She saw nothing and her fears began to wane when the gates of the town opened startling her with a jolt. Nearly losing her balance she tightly clutched onto the trunk of the tree, arms wrapped around it.
From the gates came a group of adventurers; they looked to be a group of five men all with various gear and apparel. They were laughing as their leader told them jokes and an archer, far more stern in demeanor, watched their rear. Before Aurora could even decide if she had her balance or not an arrow was planted in the tree a mere foot above where she sat.
"Aye! What are you hiding up there for? You up to no good!?" The archer called to her cautiously with an arrow knocked and ready. The rest of his group was now alerted and looking at her curiously if cautiously.
Aurora pulled her legs up to her and stood on the thick branch looking down at the men. "I'm just here to relax. As you see I am alone, no trouble will be gotten from me!" Waving her hand at the man she continued, "Now, if you are not an uncivilized brute would you kindly lower your bow? I'd enjoy NOT having you loose your grip to sweaty palms and shooting me unnecessarily."
The archer looked at his leader and with a confirming nod he lowered his bow shifting awkwardly. "Well, forgive his gruffness my lady, but pray do tell your business and name? It is dangerous in the wilds. Tales of beasts and monsters after all."
"Beasts and monsters you say? Sounds exciting!" Aurora knew that there were those that thought she and her kind were creatures to be feared, but there were also those that desired diplomacy and trade. These men seemed to fit into the former, but she suspected were just misguided, likely giving into tales instead of experience.
"Exciting, yes." The leader agreed with a chuckle and a nod. As Aurora climbed down from the tree she did so deliberately ensuring what she was would not be revealed. Her caution did not go unnoticed. "Are you alright?"
"I'm dandy!" She replied with perk. "I am also Aurora! You gentlemen have fun in there and be careful okay? Your worst threat is going to be diseases rather than monsters." She was about to step away and head into town when the archer roughly grabbed her arm holding her in place. "Excuse me, you're hurting me."
"What are you? Human or beast?"
"I'm Aurora."
"Come on man, leave her alone, knock it off."
"No! Lower your hood."

Fleur 's nose twitched at the scent of this settlement. The scent of this place was of salty seawater combined with sweat, iron, wood, and liquor. It was uncomfortable to be around. She was forced to hide her body under a cloak made of plant fibers and hide. She hated the fact that she had to hide her body this way, as if it were a thing that brought shame. But the humans who lived here seemed to see her traditional clothes, that were suited to living in warm climate of the island, as disgraceful. Her ears stuck up through the holes in the hood. It gave away her identity as a “beast”. The settlement had started to welcome the taguel within their walls as a sign of diplomacy. So long as she did not cause trouble she would not be bothered. Fleur hated these foreign humans. They claimed this patch of land as their own and threaten to encroach farther and farther into the island. She had hoped that the monsters or other aggressive taguel would kill them before their numbers grew too great. But, that was not the case, these humans were resilient, resourceful, and ruthless. These humans had already captured animals from the island to sell on their continent. It would only be a matter of time before they captured the taguel and sold them off to the highest bidder. The fact that these humans had started to call the taguel “beasts” was a sign of this.
A child of her tribe had gone missing. A little girl with brown fur, soft ears, and missing front teeth. A child named Anise. Her size and mentality no different than a child of 7-8 years of age. Fleur and her group were recruited to find her. After some searching they managed to track the child to the human settlement. The child had struck up a friendship with a human. She traded him some food for trinkets. This upset Fleur. She had told her tribe not to go to the human settlement. Fleur would have to scold the child for letting curiosity get the better of her. Fleur decided it would be best if she went into the settlement alone. The sudden appearance of four strong taguel might have upset the guards of this place. Fleur was a strong taguel, even though most of her skills were in healing, and supporting her troop. She knew how to fight. She knew how to think. She knew how to cast magic. She knew how to flee. She would be fine without her companions. That being said, her group were out in the scraggly wilds outside the territory of the human settlement. They were watching and waiting incase if Fleur ran into trouble.

Holm Peaks... The name itself had an air of raw, a mystique of wild, that tantalized the senses. Gui was mapmaking, fulfilling his requirements as a cartographer with his team, a scientific survey that had come to the island of Vinland to catalogue its shape, contour, and basic flora and fauna. So far, it was a daunting and seemingly endless task, even with his new help.
Ah, yes. Elegancia. What an unusual twist of fate, that which brought them together. What a blend of circumstance and soul, of serendipity and determination. The Griffon had made the mapping much easier, allowing Gui to sketch from the air and make a reasonably accurate basic map. But his mount made it no more efficient with respect to any other task... There was no way to teach a Griffon to pull leaves, or observe predators... Or even unfurl the mystery of the indigenous peoples.
Some said they were men, wild and possessed by naturalist urges. Some claimed beasts, vicious brutes in human form. Many times Gui had felt the glare of hidden eyes, boring into him, but never had he been able to coax one of the natives out into the open. They were shy and smart, well adapted to their homeland. True masters of their domain.
Gui shook his head. Enough of this pondering. He needed to return to the town. Though the work had progressed, there was no way it would be near completion or finished by the time they were to return. His map would be the only finished data they could bring back; the rest would be partial samples, bits of surveys and curiosities. But that was the nature of exploration and pioneering. Someone had to blaze the trails.
Pushing his way out of the deep woods, Gui and his Griffon noisily emerged near the gates, where five men were giving a young woman some trouble, it seemed. Gui called out to them, shaking his head sternly at their actions, and allowing both the presence of him with sword on shoulder and the Griffon standing beside him to make the threats.
"Have you nothing better to do than leer and grope? One would hope that an explorer could go for months sustained on the love of exploring and discovering, but it seems you have fallen victim to your base instincts..."

Aurora made little effort to escape the man's grasp as she heard someone approaching from a distance. These guys would get it now she suspected. The archer reached for her hood to which he received her hand pushing against his face. "Leave me alone you imbecile!"
"Watch your tongue!"
"Keep your hands to yourself!"
"Don't tell me what to do you beast!"
"Don't call me a beast you smelly noodle brute!"
"Have you nothing better to do than leer and grope? One would hope that an explorer could go for months sustained on the love of exploring and discovering, but it seems you have fallen victim to your base instincts..."
The suddenness of the third voice drew the attention of all present. The archer looked at the newcomer with a disdainful snarl. "Base instincts!" He looked at Aurora and then to the man, back to Aurora and then to the griffon accompanying the man. He quickly let her out of his grasp. "Hey man, I'm not that kind of guy here!" The man looked desperate as though he were accused and tried falsely.
Aurora stepped away and pointed an accusatory finger,"He tried to disrobe me. He told me to take off my cloak and then tried to force me with his own hands!"
"He did not!" One of the others defended.
"I only told her to remove her hood!"
The leader rubbed the bridge of his nose in strained silence. By the gods could they get even 100 yards from the gates? "Look, just let this go. He's an idiot and we don't want any trouble. We just want to take care of our requests." He gave his archer companion a glare that offered no alternatives.
Aurora had slowly moved around the group of adventurers and to Guillermo's side without much notice. "You have impeccable timing," she whispered. "I'm Aurora by the way." She looked at his man-claw resting on his shoulder and then to his feathered friend. They struck an imposing figure but there were still five scorned men.

Fleur continued her search for the missing child within the city walls. The people here seemed to stare at her. Some tried to ignore her. Others pointed and whispered among themselves. Fleur's ears twitched at their voices. These humans had not seen taguel before. And some of their words were harsh. She narrowed her eyes lightly and kept moving forward. She wondered where the child was. In a human settlement like this her senses failed her. There were too many new sounds and new scents for her to fully track the child properly. If the child was inside a building she would not be able to see her as Fleur cannot see through walls.
Noises from the village gates piqued her intrest. She watched from the safety of the shadows. A taguel and a human were conversing. Fleur could tell the hooded figure was a taguel. Fleur's senses were dulled in the human city but not gone. There were subtle clues in the hooded one's movement and voice that gave her away. The man was a gryffon rider. Fleur almost scoffed at the idea of a human riding a gryffon. The gryffons were a proud race whom shared the skies with the bird Taguel. They were sometimes rivals, sometimes food, sometimes hunters, and scavengers. Like all things on the island they had their place and purpose in the ecosystem. And yet here was one of those proud creatures at the beck and call of a human. Fleur shook her head. She had seen the native monsters tamed for taguel and human use but never a gryffon.
Fleur wanted to approach the taguel and ask if she had seen a small rabbit. It was easier for Fleur if she spoke to another taguel. This man and hooded taguel had some trouble with a few folks at the gate. Fleur would not interfere. She would wait until the pair of them moved away from the group of five.

The situation rapidly devolved into a game of he-said she-said, with the young hooded lady claiming she was being harassed and the five men adamantly denying any sort of involvement. At least the leader of the men seemed to have his head on straight. After he had spoken his piece, the Rider nodded, lifting his large two-handed sword with one arm and pointing it into the jungle.
"Right, then. Go on. I think this squabble has cost us all too much time as it is. But if you would like to quarrel, I will oblige."
Without any further word to them, he turned to the hooded lady and spoke, his eyes still cautious. Impeccable timing or not, he could not understand why she had gotten into the mess in the first place. Was she a stowaway? He didn't recall her face from any of the women inside the settlements, and she seemed a little young.
"I am an explorer. In order to discover things we must question, and by questioning we find truth. Truth lets us discover the mysteries of the world.
So I will begin by stating what I think I know. I do not believe I have seen you before. You seem too young for one of the women of the settlement, and you certainly do not look to be armed as all the explorers and their women are. In this new and dangerous place, we take precautions against attack by the wild animals of the island.
I have also heard tales of natives, indigenous peoples with remarkable abilities. I have never seen an indigenous person on this island. Either they do not exist or they do not want to be found. That I can accept. All need not be revealed instantaneously. But I do believe that the concern of the men had a grain of truth. For while I do not fear you, I fear that you may not be all that you seem. I apologize if I am wrong, but there are few of us on this island, and I have been here for quite some time."
The Griffon Rider threw his hands up.
"I do not know who you are, Aurora. I do not know where you came from. But my name is Guillermo del Edificio de Barro secado al Sol. You may call me Gui. If that is all you need, I will leave you in peace, and advise you against wandering into groups of men. We can be quite... Uncouth."

"Mmm?" Aurora shifted and put a finger to her lip teasingly. "You want to know more about me? Oh my, so forward." She laughed giving him a wry grin. "Well, if you simply must know I am Aurora Fennec!" She thrust a finger into the sky striking a pose.
"Fear is the path to ignorance, only through brave discovery and putting your everything on the line recklessly can you ever hope to find that which you seek. Fortune favors the bold I hear they say!" She had taken to quoting adventurers often. Sometimes she used their lingo well and others she earned herself questioning gazes or outright hostility. She made note of people's reaction each time. "Stick with me good Gui and I think, NAY! I know you will find that which you long for! That which you seek! The discoveries!" She was now out of breath from all the enthusiastic long-winded shouts and panting.
"There mmmmmaaaaay, or may NOT, be someone around here." She listened for the other visitor. "I do believe she is watching us from the trees." Aurora looked around interested. "I get the feeling she won't like being called out. Hope she doesn't get hostile. You may not last long as she tears you limb from limb!" She was rambling long ago now.
"By the way. You doubt me and my ability to keep safe but I can use magic! Light magic to be more exact and I am VERY VERY adept with it." She put her hands on her hips and nodded confidently. Was it a false confidence? Who knew, everything she did was exaggerated.

Fleur continued to watch from the safety of the shadows. The pair of them seemed to escape the wrath of the gate keepers for the moment. Her ears twitched slightly, listening for any mention of a rabbit child. From what she could hear off of them the man who rode the griffin was an explorer of some kind. Another human new to this island whom had no idea of the dangers that lurk here. One who had nether seen a Taguel or a Monster. She frowned slightly and simply dismissed him as just some other fool. She had no doubt that the island would swallow him up and turn his remains into dirt.
The girl on the other hand was someone different. Fleur's ears picked up that she had been detected. A small smirk emerged on her other wise expressionless face. If her suspicions were correct the woman was a type of dog or fox taguel. A common rival of the rabbit. She let out a soft sigh and approached the two of them. While her own hood was up in order to hide her face, her large ears stuck straight up through the holes that had been cut for them. She was very tall compared to most humans. A taguel roughly 6' high not counting the ears. A tallness that was both a blessing and a curse. While it struck an imposing figure to those humans around her it also hindered some of her movements. Her tribe's warren's had tunnels that she had to crawl to go through when other rabbits could simply walk. She stopped a few paces in front of them.
"Pardon me for hiding.. but this settlement of humans is.. unfamiliar. The young one here discovered my presence and announced it. Thus I have no reason to hide myself anymore. I have come to ask if either of you had seen a child taguel nearby. She would have ears like mine, short brown hair, and be no taller then the average human's waist."

(If Gui comes back feel free to post but otherwise I'm going to keep this moving)
Aurora hmmmed to the Taguel woman with a pointed finger against her lips. "I do not believe I have seen one myself, and judging by this one's words neither has he." She jutted her thumb at Gui. "But me oh my! It looks like a wittle wabbit has ventured into my path!" She grinned toothily revealing her fangs. Despite her rudeness she was joking around with Fleur and teasing the woman. With a sigh and a stretch Aurora pointed at the gate.
"I would be happy to help you look around and find your missing warren. I would LOVE to buy a new cloak or even a necklace, oh! I heard of an item called a choker. It sounds like a terrible object but its clothes! Interesting is it not?" She was slowly, or rather rapidly digressing from the important subject of a missing child and into the vain topic of clothing and material objects.
No response was given time to be formed from the others before Aurora jumped into action, quite literally as she hoped and skipped to the gate. "HELLLLLLOOOOOOO gate guard man, person, human..... friend? We seek entrance into the town to do business!"
The guard peered through a small window in the door that he opened and closed after looking the three over. He was clearly uncomfortable at the site of Fleur but he accepted her presence if with reluctance and soon the gates opened.
"THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!" Aurora looked back, "Come on! Let's find your kid! Ooo, and a mirror!" With that she turned and ran into the village.

Fleur had kept her expression neutral throughout this meeting. But, the more the canine like taguel spoke, the more she was annoyed. Part of her regretted this meeting in the first place. Aurora's voice was loud. And this hurt the rabbit Taguel's ears. She closed her eyes and lightly winced at Aurora's expressions. She did not like the fact that she referred to her as a "wittle wabbit". The Rabbit Taguel felt that it was diminutive and insulting to her and her kin. Fleur was not good at picking up jokes or teasing from other people. There were exceptions to this rule. Her family, her pack, her warren, she could pick up on their jokes fairly easily. Aurora also bounced around between subjects. She seemed to not care much about a missing child. Instead the canine taguel seemed to be much more focused on herself. Fleur accepted this. She knew in a dangerous place like Vinland, sometimes it is necessary to only look out for yourself.
She was puzzled by Aurora's knowledge of a choker. Fleur had a choker. It was one of the few pieces of jewelry she owned. It was a plain band, adorned with the red feathers of a fallen friend. Of course there was no way of Aurora seeing this through her body covering cloak. Perhaps if she was in a better situation, she would explain her experiences wearing a choker. Aurora signaled for the gatekeeper to open the door so that they may proceed. She noticed the look the guard gave her but paid it no mind. She knew the people here would look at her differently. She did not care. All she wanted to do was to find the missing child and take her home. She winced again and this time put her hand over her face. Aurora's excited entrance to the city was hard to tolerate. What have I gotten myself into? She wondered and reluctantly followed her through the gates.

Aurora was everything but still. In the briefest of pauses that she did not hop and skip or run her body was constantly in a sashay of movement. "Come on slowpoke! I thought you were on some urgent business! What was it again!?" Aurora stopped at a jeweler's stand. He had brought some silver bracelets and necklaces from across the sea with him and he had fashioned some pretty pieces from what was found locally. Aurora's eyes went wide with greed. "It's all soooo pretty!"
The man laughed, "if you like it so much I can make a deal, if you get me some of those griffon feathers, I think they're called I'd be willing to part with a piece."
"Really!?" Her face lit up before she remembered there was something important that needed doing. It ate at the back of her mind as she thought about how shiny everything was. "I accept that deal. Just give me time to find one!" Oh that's right! "Oh! This one here lost her kid. Have you seen a little bunny child hopping around? Maybe even a biiiiig bunny?"
The man frowned at this. "Lost her child huh?" He placed a hand to his chin and slowly rubbed it as he thought back to something. "I do recall seeing one with another kid but... I'll be hard pressed to remember who it was."
"What if I got you feathers?"
"No! I'm not bribing you! I really don't remember!"
"I... ... ... See." Aurora slowly lowered her eyes to level with the stall before pushing back to redoing Fleur. "Your kid is with another kid. Sounds fine to me! So..." She shifted delightedly. "We should go hunt a griffin!" She gasped. "Oh! Where..." She spun in frantic circles. "Where did Gui go?" She hung her head in shame. "We left him behind." We may have been a stretch.

The village of these foreign humans was worse than she thought. The place smelled awful. And the noises.. she could hear almost everything. Every step the humans took on the sloshed ground, the hammering of wood, the grinding of wheels against their axles. All of this noise was distracting. She took a moment to focus and clear her head. Slowly, the noises of the world started to dull. She could now focus her hearing and attention towards her main goal. She listened quietly for mention of a little rabbit girl. While her ears did their thing she walked up towards Aurora. Rabbits weren't slow by any standards but this was a new place. She needed to be cautious with her movements.
Aurora was off doing her own thing. She was busy chatting up some store owner about feathers and jewelry. The little canine taguel actually asked the shop owner if she had seen the missing child. Aurora assumed the child was Fleur's. Fleur didn't bother to correct her. No, it was her child she would have hopped over the fence fully transformed and pulled her child out of this place. No, her child wouldn't even associate with these strange humans. Not while she still lived and breathed.
"We are not hunting a griffon. That would take up time that I do not have. Perhaps you can snag some off of that map maker from earlier." She spoke to Aurora first. Then turned her attention back towards the store owner.
"You have my gratitude for the small piece of information you have provided." She took a step back and returned her attention back to the other taguel.
"You seem to be more.. adept at this sort of thinking.. Do you know where children like to play?"

As Fleur turned down Aurora's griffon hunting request she began to pout. But it was such a worthwhile task, why could the bunny rabbit not understand. She had a pouting lower lip as she looked around for Gui one more futile time. You win some you lose some, she told herself. Aurora began to look for any ships that may have been in the docks. To her dismay she did not see any. She had already left her home, if there were no ships for her to ride to the mainland on then... She gasped aloud.
"Grayson..." She said in a low voice. There was a gray haired Taguel with a short blade by his side and a long cloak hiding his features in the crowd. He had come to find her already? He was always such a good tracker!
The man waved away Fleur's thanks. "It is no problem mam. I am only sorry I could not be of MORE help to you. I have a boy of my own you see. I'd be frantic if he went missing. If you need anything else just ask." With that he returned to his work.
Aurora was caught up in her own concerns as Fleur asked her to lead her to where children would play. "What? You want to know what now?" Aurora looked at Fleur for a moment before suspiciously looking back in the direction of the hooded man. Suddenly realizing what was said she spoke evasively. "Kids? Right, I know where they go. Just follow me." Aurora began to run with purpose this time, not enthusiastic whimsy and she was speedy. If not for Fleur being a Taguel and a rabbit at that, she would have been difficult to keep pace with.
Aurora led her to a small area where children had gathered. "They call it a park. Apparently the mainland has huge places like this with fields of flowers and stuff. Sounds neat. So, you see your kid around here?" Aurora shaded her eyes and peered around.

Fleur took note of Aurora's speech. She had led the rabbit out towards the docks. The docks did not seem like the sort of place a little rabbit would be. However, Fleur had heard Aurora mention a name. She assumed it was someone close to the young fox. The shop keep also seemed to assume the child was hers. Fleur nodded softly at him before dismissing herself from his presence. Whatever had distracted Aurora seemed to had passed and soon the fox had led them out towards a park. A park from her perspective seemed to be a large open space. There was some flowering plants and grasses growing around but the design of it seemed unnatural. Fleur could understand it but she didn't like it. It felt off. It was too organized. As if the humans were trying to confine the nice parts of nature into a single space. Fleur gave no expression as her eyes scanned for the small child. The little one was huddled over some flowers with a little boy.
The little girl wore a cloak similar to Fleur's but smaller. She had flowers in her hair and appeared to be making a crown of them. She was showing the little boy how to make one. How to thread the stems together and tie them in a manner that prevented it from unraveling. The scene itself seemed pretty innocent. Fleur was relived to see that the child was alright. The boy seemed to enjoy her company.
However, things were about to go south very fast. The boy's parents arrived. They were angry. The father quickly grabbed his son and pulled the boy away from the rabbit child. The boy was thrown towards the woman whom held him back. The man shouted at the rabbit. Called her vermin. A rat. Diseased. A child cursed by Elimine to wander the world as half an animal. A monster. The little boy tried to protest but the mother scolded him. He had something with him. A thing on a stick, Fleur assumed it to be some sort of weapon. Although later she would learn it was just a broom. These actions did not sit well with Fleur. She ran forward and grabbed the child before the man could hit her.

"I think we found 'em!" Aurora exclaimed pleased with herself. She raised a hand to the sky and brought it down into a point with her other hand firmly on her hips. "Aww, look at the two of them! Children are so CUUUUUUTE!" She looked to her new friend and nodded affirmatively. "I think we should let them just have a little fun. You agree right?"
Agree or not there was little time for an answer. Just as the two of them were searching so too did it seem the human child was being looked for as well. What a coincidence in timing!? Aurora did not catch on to the body language or visual cues that quickly. The scene before her began to unfold and her smile quickly faded away.
Why were they being so cruel and vile? Cursed child? Forsaken of who now? Rat, diseased? The insults came so quickly and so rapidly it was difficult to keep track of them all. Why would they say that? It was just a child, and they did not know her. Something in Aurora began to boil to the surface. What was this unpleasant feeling, words came to her, but they were lost with others. Each time the words were replaced by more and more foul verbage until.
"YOU SUCK! YOU MEANIES REALLY REALLY SUCK!" Aurora was shaking with clenched fists flailing nonsensically. "SICK EM BUNNY SICK EM!!!" If her words of scolding and encouragement were not enough she raises her hand and uttered, "Illumina Caecum Hostes Mei!" A small orb of bright light formed in her palm before exploding into bright sparks brighter than the day, flashing a light to leave an afterimage.
