Aeos didn't know much about politics either. He barely knew Nabatan politics. Heck he didn't even know if Nabata had a unified government or empire to even have politics about. He just knew that people did what they could to survive in a desert nation that was harsh. And yet he wanted to protect the sandbox of Elibe. He wanted to protect the people he had befriended. He wanted to keep all people's safe from the evils of the dark. He wanted to do so many things. And that desire fueled something inside of him. Something warm, powerful, it felt like fire but it was inside of him. It didn't feel like pride it felt more like purpose.
"We.. have to do some good. We.. need to change the opinions of the people. To show them that dragons aren't bad. Yes we are powerful and apparently our race once ruled with questionable practices. But if we are to survive to see the future we must do good. To show the people we aren't evil as the evils in the shadows." He paused.
"We need to punch the evils in the face for the greater good of all." He nodded. Then smirked. The thought of him being some sort of glorious savior to everyone by punching monsters made him feel good.
"Plus.. I want answers. I want to know why this is all happening.. and how. If.. this is all tied.. to something. Some sort of rythmic thing.. or unbalance of the world trying to fix or f*ck itself.. what ever it is.. we have to figure it out. In order to stop it.. and prevent it from happening again. Er.. well at least that's what I want to do." He looked a little embarrased.
"I.. just don't want to see the world I live.. no the world I love turn into some monster infested wasteland. Even if Elibe isn't perfect... I still want to defend it. I can't do that without training.. without understanding my own power." He nodded.

"Heh. Well..." Nayru flexed, striking a pose for a moment and looking either very dashing or VERY silly in the process, she tried not to think too hard about that. "Punching I can do."
In some ways... to the objective observer, it might sound silly. Two ancient, powerful beings with phenomenal superhuman powers, between them potentially able to destabilize the balance of power in Elibe - and while neither of them realized it yet, young prodigies with the potential to become legends even among their own kind. Joking around like a couple of idiots, making light of serious situations with immense consequences. Perhaps even worse than silly; stupid and irresponsible could be used to describe them, from that perspective, and in some ways not even be that far off from the truth. But perhaps it was better than Nayru being entirely aware of what her role in the future might be, could be, and thinking about it too hard.
There would be a time for that later.
In the present though, though, Nayru was blissfully unaware of that struggle, intentionally or unintentionally pushing down any related thoughts into the abyss of her mind for later consideration. Or not! Aeos seemed to be stumbling through his words a bit, trying to work out exactly what he wanted to say, or at least how to say it. Or maybe he was worried about her reaction? He seemed to do that a lot. Nayru wasn't really sure which, she'd stopped caring about what most people thought abotu her so long ago that she couldn't imagine going back to it. The dragoness clapped her companion lightly on the shoulder, grinning like a buffoon. "That makes two of us then, eh? We'll figure it out Aeos. Even if we don't know the answers now, we can find them. We WILL find them. And by the time we're done, no one will have a problem with us again."
She was quite aware of the ah... naivete in those words, a sort of self-aware stupidity that refused to be bottled up, as genuine as it was meaningless drivel to cheer him up. That was always the ideal. Whether they would get there or not, that was the question. Not wanting to drag it out further though, Nayru hopped off the edge of the roof and landed in the sand with a solid PLUMP, surviving the gigantic... eight to ten ish foot drop... without too much issue, blissfully unaware that that could potentially have broken a human's legs with some bad luck. "Unfortunately that fancy dragon crap aint gonna understand itself, so get your butt down here and let's move! Uh, away from the cottage," she lowered her voice a bit as the sad truth of reality reared its ugly head. "Don't wanna accidentally damage it or anythin'."

"I look forward to learning how to punch things from you Nayru." He spoke and grinned. He was happy to see Nayru so enthusiastic about punching stuff. Fighting was a simple concept. You vs another person, thing, place, or object. You hit that thing until it stops hitting you back. Fighting was a great way to relieve himself of pent up stress and anger. A way for him to cut loose and bond with the other part of him that seemed to relish in thoughts of chaos. The part of him that wanted to show off his dragon might to the rest of the world regardless of consequences.
"I hope you are right. About finding out answers and no one ever bothering us or our kin again." His mind briefly flashed to his parents. He saw them standing there at the doorway of the old home. Smiling at him. He wanted to make this world more pleasant for them. For they had seen the horrors of war, destruction of their tribes, and their homes. And despite that they raised their only son to live on this world with as much peace and forgiveness as possible. He shook his head a bit. He needed to refocus on Nayru. She was eager to go ahead and get started with this training. He had asked for it, but wasn't expecting it to be so soon. He was hoping to get started on this training in the morning. Or perhaps at dawn when they both would be able to view the world clearly. But, no Nayru wanted to start now. She jumped down from the rooftop and ordered that he get his butt down there. He got up and returned to the sands below the cottage. He didn't jump down, he took the ladder instead. He then grabbed a spare torch and followed Nayru away from the shack he called home.
"Right. The last thing we want is to destroy the rental home." He was happy Nayru took the health of the home into consideration. Aeos probably would have started the fight on the rooftop and half way through realized it was a bad idea.
"So how we doing this?"

Speaking of training, of teaching and learning, of mastery and magic, was easy. In her head, it had gone swimmingly: she and Aeos would hone their skills to phenomenal cosmic levels, and then... punched the bad guys, or... something. She hadn't actually thought it out that much but in general it had been a pretty breezy if optimistic idea.
In practice, Nayru actually had no idea how to teach another dragon to do much of anything. Her own, ah, struggles had been fairly unique, and not in a good way, so she didn't really even know if how she used her power was how a dragon was 'supposed' to do it. Was there supposed to be a handbook on this crap? Dragons fighting in any form aside from fullshift had been utterly worthless for millennia, and even today it was, as far as she could tell, generally viewed as a bit crass and pointless by Arcadian dragons. No amount of training could ever make a dragon's human form stronger than their, well, dragon form - that was the whole point of it. Why waste centuries training your squishy body when you could just shift and win by default?
But for what was effectively a teenage dragon, Nayru had a pretty different perspective. Centuries spent in the wild in Elibe had finally taught her that it WAS useful, and that it behooved her and Aeos to master their abilities in both forms, rather than just relying on brute strength to do the trick. It was especially relevant to her, since she had no idea how to transform without causing a massive storm now. Which, er, kinda killed the stealth thing. In fairness, Nayru was forced to recognize in a rare moment of self-awareness, she wasn't... exactly... the master of stealth and subtlety, but the whole giant murder storm thing was a bit much even for her. Especially for her.
"Well," Nayru said, trying very hard to sound like she knew what she was doing. There wasn't anything to follow that opener up with for a moment as she thought. There were pretty good sized rocks lying around, boulders and a couple spires and the like, but not really anything that stuck out as awesome training materials. She couldn't really tell Aeos to just bench press the ocean.
...Could she?
Turning to her companion as she tried to push all thoughts of abuse of power as a teacher out of her mind, Nayru grinned somewhat uneasily at Aeos, lifting one hand to motion him to come at her. "Alright, punch me as hard as you can." Yep, noooooothing could possibly go wrong here. "Halfshift as far as you can too. I want to see how far you can go and what you can do with it."
Ignoring the tiny voice in her head that was politely screaming how much of a doubelplus ungood idea this was - she had a lot of practice with that thankfully, so it was pretty easy - Nayru crossed her arms in front of her to block, not... entirely sure what Aeos could do, but convinced this was the best way to find out. Yeah she could just tell him to punch a rock or something, but judging his strike against some of the stuff she'd been hit by, like that Broodmother back in Sacae, or the bandits in Sacae, or the assassin in Sacae, or - she needed to stop going to Sacae apparently. "It'll be fiiiine," the dragoness wheedled at her new friend. Yeah, this would absolutely go great, she'd just halfshift to absorb the blow and everything would be gravy.

"Alright, punch me as hard as you can."
Aeos stopped and stared at Nayru after she said that. What?
"Halfshift as far as you can too. I want to see how far you can go and what you can do with it."
Again he just stood there, holding the torch and trying to properly comprehend what she just said. What?
“You want me to do what again? Half shift? And punch you as hard as I can?” He blinked. Still partially dumbfounded. He had no reason to want to punch Nayru. He was expecting to punch the air or maybe a boulder if they walked away far enough. But, no, Nayru wanted to be punched.
The other part of him whom had been silent most of the night, perked up. The dragon half of him, the alleged “angry” part of him, wanted to punch Nayru. To be fair it did want to punch a lot of things. He did ask for training but he did not expect this. He expected her to show him how she punched and repeat the motion. Maybe even show him how she did the half shift with just her arms.
“Are you sure?” He asked. He gently put the torch down onto the stand so that it stuck up and provided them with dim light. The other half of him was nagging at him now. He closed his eyes. A mental banter between both halves of him ensued. Eventually the rational part of him lost and he felt himself change. Slowly, Aeos’ image morphed into his half shifted form.

"Yup, pretty sure," Nayru stated brightly, the tiny part of her brain that still retained some level of common sense screaming so loudly it took slightly more effort than usual to ignore it. She could almost hear a tiny gurgling sound in the back of her head that sounded like something killing itself. Huh, weird. Anyways! "It's the most direct way to figure out what you can do, and this way I don't waste either of our time explaining stuff you already know. If there's anything I've learned," she grinned lopsidedly, "it's that hitting inanimate objects and practicing kata don't do crap to help you actually fight."
Three god damn centuries of martial arts as a hobby and she was still left to rely almost entirely on her natural reflexes in every fight when she started. It was so disappointing that she had looped through feeling sorry for herself all the way back into neutrality. At least she finally felt like she was getting somewhere with all that, enough to be... hesitantly... confident in helping Aeos out somewhat, but there was so much more to real combat than she had realized when just occasionally fighting in self defense, artlessly using raw power to destroy her foes and moving on. Now she had people to protect, ideals to live up to... and a great deal more power to have to learn how to control. Just messing around with blind power was a one-way ticket to getting hunted down. If she tried to pull that crap from Bern anywhere else it probably would have serious consequences.
Shifting uncomfortably, she continued, as much to distract herself from that train of thought as convince Aeos. "Look, I'm not saying we need to actually fight, but you learn more about yourself from how much you can push your limits than from just repeating the basics." Yeah ok there was the minor, irrelevant concern of her exploding, but Nayru was perfectly sure that would work out fine. Besides, if he hadn't mastered elemental halfshift, then her estimation of her power was about right and she should be able to take one hit... though not necessarily a lot more. Nayru was many things, but completely delusional was not one of them, and she had learned the hard way over time that she was more of a speed-power type than a power-defense sort. That was more Aerious's gig. It'd be good to know what sort Aeos was as well.

“That be true. The rocks do not fight back.” His voice was still raspy. Nayru made some sense. What good is fighting rocks and trees if they don't hit you back. You can only learn so much from fighting inanimate things, usually these things be something internal. The day he met the bells man in the beach, he learned he wasn't so apt at fighting like he nearly thought. The man on the beach promptly kicked his behind and threw him into the water.
Aeos kicked off his shoes and let the sand come between his toes. He closed his eyes. He needed to focus. Nayru was serious about this training, he had to be too. The two halves of himself needed to work together if they were to master the power of their element. They needed to work together to protect the people and things they cared about. He took in a deep breath and exhaled. There were things in his mind that felt as if they were lost in a fog. Other parts as if they had been struck by lightning. It was hard to channel the power of his element into his body and keep it at a reasonable level. A full half shift took a toll on his mind and his body. The magic he siphoned from the air was limited. He knew he couldn't maintain this form for very long.
He gritted his teeth. This half shifted form was used mostly in situations where his life was in danger. It was hard to fight that fight or flight instinct. He needed to control himself. Nayru wasn’t hurting him. Nayru was his friend. A comrade. A fellow dragon. She wasn’t going to kill him. Calm. Be Calm. Focus. His half shifted form had several advantages and disadvantages. The raging whirlwind of thoughts and instincts were one of the disadvantages. The sudden sensory overload was another. His half shifted form enhanced all of his senses. His hearing was sharpened. His eyesight was enhanced. He could feel the literal magic in the air. This sudden sensory overload proved to be a bit too much for him. When he gave his demonstration earlier he didn’t feel like this. Every transformation or half shifting transformation was different. Sometimes they were easy to recover from other times not so much. The dragon man took several deep breaths in an attempt to regain control himself.
He opened his eyes again and focused on Nayru in front of him. She appeared to be fuzzy. The world behind her was clear as day. His eyes were glowing slightly to help him see in the dark. It was a similar glow that cats had when they roamed the streets at night. Although this looked a lot greener than the eye glow cats had. He blinked a few times then rubbed his eyes. He glanced back at Nayru again. She was clear. And so was the desert behind her. Okay good.
When he finally felt ready, he took a stance. He prepared himself for what he wanted to do. He wanted to strike at Nayru. He charged forward with average speed and went to punch her. He still wasn’t 100% comfortable with the idea of hitting her. But, perhaps that attitude will change as the training progressed.

"Don't jinx it, man." Nayru laughed, shaking her head, but the horrible thought that it actually wouldn't be that unexpected by this point for the rock people to rise up against Elibe occurred to her and sapped most of the fun out of the joke. And her life. She could deal with giant spiders and flying leather people and horse people and crazy humans and the 50 million assassins who were always after Veigue and Remus, and now whatever the f**k Taguel were, even the snake people even if SOME of them needed a boot to the head, but the day she had to defend herself against a god damn walking talking rock she was just going to snap and kill everyone in Elibe.
Probably for the best that she hadn't met any earth dragons yet.
All shenanigans aside though Nayru was paying attention as Aeos continued to halfshift, slowly extruding more of his natural armor and seeming to need a fair deal of focus to keep everything under control. That was something she could definitely empathize with. On paper, superpowers and (near) invulnerability was pretty great with no downsides; in practice, well, she didn't think she or Aeos really needed to explain to each other just what could go wrong. Multiple personalities, dark sides, insanity, bloodlust, hatred, constantly having to control that power to keep from being discovered too easily... being a dragon wasn't all it was cracked up to be. It did come with perks though.
Perks like super strength, which Aeos looked to be using, though it was hard to judge exactly how much so. She was still ready to block, but for just a moment Nayru though to herself that maybe they should have talked a little more about control and especially safe words. Hm. You know maybe she should take this seriouslYUP THAT PUNCH WAS DEFINITELY HARD she coherently thought as Aeos's craggy fist slammed into her not exceptionally well reinforced arms like a dragon falling out of the sky. On the bright side, speed-shifting was kind of her thing so Nayru managed to avoid having the upper half of her body turned into a fine puree on the spot, her own golden scales exploding out to meet his attack, but it was too little too late to ablate the attack regardless of how optimistic she was, a fact Nayru had plenty of time to think about after being lifted airborne, at an angle no less in the wake of a failed attempt at parrying. Behind her had been clear from rocks, but hadn't there been something a little off to the left-
Pain was immediate and overwhelming, despite her having had the foresight to continue shifting while airborn to protect her ah, far more vulnerable back. There were SOME upsides to being a dragon after all, and Nayru had a... surprising amount of experience with being knocked into things, from the Bael at Salvation Point to now. But it wasn't fatal. She could live with some pain. Had lived with it. Electricity seethed across the cratered edge of the monolith as she ripped her body out of it, both arms entirely encased in golden scales in the wake of Aeos's attack and the further necessity for defense, and dropped to the ground before it with... maybe a little bit of a stumble, admittedly, but she did a decent job of hiding it. Mostly.
"'M fine," was what came out instead of the perfectly coherent 'I'm fine' that had been intended. Interesting. Nayru shook her head to get the cobwebs out, realizing in their wake that adrenaline was still pumping through her from that moment. It had been a while since she'd actually had a fight with something that hit that hard. Not even the gargoyles in Bern had been nearly that strong, just tough as hell. Was she shaking? It shouldn't have rattled her THAT much... no, she wasn't scared of him. It had been a hell of a punch, but Nayru knew she was capable of more. The realization hit her only after a moment, and it was so obvious in retrospect that she couldn't believe she hadn't thought of it much earlier.
She was excited.
Fighting monsters was fun and all, but it was hard to find something to pick on that was her own size; either they came apart too easily or were too big to be really fun. Fighting another dragon - one almost as strong as her, or at least somewhere in a similar level, she thought... that was a new experience. And it'd be a HELL of a way to train. For both of them. "THAT'S the f**k**g ticket," Nayru stated, the grim satisfaction evident in her words as she walked towards Aeos purposefully, slamming her mailed fists together with a golden eruption of light and sound, electricity running across her limbs for a moment before dying down. "New plan. We start punching each other. A lot." Maybe she was getting a bit carried away here, but with a captive audience who had the same goal as her and could actually take a proper pounding, Nayru could actually feel herself slipping just a little bit further into the mindset that she had reviled for so long - the idea that fighting could actually be... fun, that growth for its own sake wasn't just a waste of time for the small-minded. Maybe she was getting dumber from having her head slammed into too many rocks, but was it really so wrong if they could both get something out of this?
As she approached and began a very telegraphed right hook, Nayru grinned at her counterpart, aaaaalmost like a shark that had spotted a bare ass. The lightning was gone but it didn't take a genius to figure that scale encrusted arms didn't mean she was wandering over to give him a head pat. Just one last thing to say; "The safe word is banana."

Well, he did it. He punched her. And apparently he punched her hard. Aeos wasn't quite used to his strength when he was fully half shifted. Some times he forgot how strong he actually was. According to his folks a half shifted dragon had the ability to move huge things like bounders or lift solid trees off the ground. Nabata didn't have any trees. And he knew he could lift bounders but only those that were roughly a fourth of his body length. Then again it had been quite some time since he last did any boulder lifting. He did plenty of bounder breaking though.
Nayru was sent flying and into a something. Aeos quickly looked over to make sure he didn't accidentally punched her through his home. Wait no she went completely the opposite way... What the hell did she hit? He approached. He was a little bit concerned for her. Sparks of lightning shot through the dark and erupted upwards on to a pillar of stone. Since, when has that been there? He shook his head. Now was not the time to think about what was where. Nayru had apparently half shifted herself and was ready to fight back. She had part of her limbs covered in scales and they erupted sparks of electricity. There was something in the air. Something he couldn't put into words. As if the very forces of nature, spirits, whatever it was, he felt as if they were egging the two dragons on. Perhaps it was excitement? Thrill? Fear? He didn't know what it was.. but whatever it was it made him feel energized. Like he could take on the world with this sudden boost of emotion. He'd forgotten all about the limited time constraints of his half shifted form. He wanted to fight. He wanted to win. And it seemed Nayru was feeling it too, his grin almost matched her own. Pointy little fangs and all.
"The safety word is banana." She spoke and appeared to be coming at him with a right hook. Memories flashed through his mind. Back to when his appearance and mannerisms were that of a twelve year old boy. Back to sparring on the beach with his father. Nayru's movements matched his. A right hook.. he just had to wait for the right moment to counter. When Nayru's hook was just at her chin level Aeos bent his knees downwards slightly. So he that he was shorter, then retaliated with a right hook of his own. His intention was to hit her right in the gut or chest.

She hadn't actually been sure if he was paying attention or had fallen asleep on his feet, hey it was totally possible Aeos was a total narcoleptic, so Nayru was admittedly a bit relieved when he actually got moving again. She was, however, also a little disappointed that he had decided to dodge. Swordsmen dodged. Mages dodged. Manaketes dodged. Dragons were supposed to f**k**g take it like a champ, spit it out, and say 'thank you sir may I have another.' Okay, granted, she dodged too, but that was when it was necessary against stuff she couldn't facetank. Not when they were just trying to find their own physical limits. But eh, Aeos was just a bit more... cautious than her, not a bad trait admittedly.
All shenanigans aside, even if she wasn't ACTUALLY throwing that punch with all the power she had, more just an opening attack to see how Aeos reacted, the fact was that she was still committed to a degree and not quite able to just casually abort it and avoid Aeos's own hit. In a real fight of course she would never have opened quite like that, and she DID have options, but Nayru didn't want to completely blow all of her tricks right from the start. It wouldn't be any fun if she just tried to overpower Aeos, 'cuz while he was definitely a lot stronger than she had initially assumed, she was fairly certain now that he couldn't match her in raw power. At least not yet.
"Not bad" was all she really had time to say before being forced into the defensive, draining power from her arm and redirecting it to her torso quickly. Quickly shifting the location and intensity of her halfshifting was, after all, both her strength and her weakness - she COULDN'T match Aerious in full-body reinforcement or sheer durability in general, but made up for it in speed and reflexes. Rather than dodging she continued moving directly into Aeos's fist, trying to limit his ability to redirect the blow with the possible side bonus of making him flinch or pull the punch, the iron of her body slamming into his mailed fist with a burst of force that arrested her forward motion immediately - Aeos definitely packed a punch.
Of course with the weight of her hand, it naturally wanted to drop, and the instant the impact died down a bit and her body recoiled slightly backwards, Nayru redirected the flow into her arm again, opening her fist as she moved into a downwards ax hand strike aimed at Aeos's neck or collarbone. A bit more serious than the last attack but again nowhere near full power, trying to get a feel for his durability and reaction times.

Well that was something he hadn’t expected. He hit her. And it was different than before. He could feel it crawling up his arm and into his shoulder. A sort of shock wave that felt like iron clanging against itself. Reminded him of a blacksmith’s hammer pounding against the anvil. Nayru had changed her body mid motion. She moved her dragon powers from her arms and into her torso. He had never seen anyone do that before. The magical movement was so fluid. His shifting was almost always the same. It was an even 50/50 ratio of being half man and half dragon. Even when he was shifting his limbs they still seemed to keep some semblance of human traits. His feet kept it’s five toes and a mostly human shape. Sure, the limbs would get blackened nails and scaled skin.. But someone could still identify it as a human foot.
But, Nayru could freely move the magic in her body from her arm towards her chest. He couldn’t do that with his power. His change was always the same. And up until this point he never knew it could be different. There was quite a lot to learn from this whole dragon thing. Aeos would ponder that matter later, right now he needed to focus on what was coming. The punch was enough to make Nayru move back a bit. Nayru hadn’t changed her assault. Her fist was still coming and he needed to do something to avoid getting his face caved in. Rather, he needed to do something to get his neck or shoulder snapped in half. She came at him with a strike that was similar to that of a lumberjack and his ax.
He knew this strike. He knew what it did. It was something like a throat chop. Meant to stun the person receiving the blow or force them to instinctively move back while they nurse their sore neck. It was a highly effective strike. He quickly threw his hands up in an X shape. His intention was to catch the ax strike in between the X and prevent her from hitting him. This movement was instinctive and left him open to a side hit.

Nayru subconsciously noted Aeos's quick reaction and silently approved, not in the least perturbed that her attack wasn't likely to work. She would have been disappointed if it did honestly, it wasn't that subtle or difficult to anticipate, but she liked that he had managed to redirect his movement from the attack on her to blocking that one whole-heartedly. Given hat the apparently followed Aerious in the constant-shift category, it showed good mental flexibility even if his physical abilities didn't necessarily follow it. At this point it was irrelevant if she put most of her strength into the attack, the potential for real damage had already been effectively neutered unless she had gone full power - and rightfully so at that. Any smart fighter would protect their most vulnerable spots, and as far as weaknesses went - well - the neck could be considered one of the most vital organs.
That all said, it didn't really matter. The point of the attack hadn't really been to win, just help keep her inside Aeos's guard. Both her primary fighting styles revolved around spacing uncomfortable to the average opponent, especially weapon wielders. If she was using krav maga she probably would have tripped Aeos while he was distracted and taken the game to the ground, but she wasn't -actually- trying to kill him, that would be kind of jerk-ish for a friendly(?) sparring(?) match, and in all honesty Nayru wasn't entirely confident in her ability to practice nonlethal krav maga at the best of times. In her head it would work fine, but in practice it was so ingrained in her mind that it was a serious combat style that her actual killing intent came out far too easily.
Bājíquán wasn't exactly big on the subtlety and softness thing either, but at least she could better control HOW she took people apart rather than just going straight for the jugular, figuratively and literally. Bursts of power with minimal motion was kind of her vibe after all. Funny that originally she had assumed krav maga would be more useful, but in recent time as she mastered her powers, Bājíquán turned out to be exceptionally well suited for her. Oh well. Dispassionately amused by the irony of it, Nayru continued her assault, balancing on her left leg as she brought the right up and around for a lightning fast knee to Aeos's side.
