Ricard wiped a bit of sweat off of his brow as he finished with today's duties. Sure, it may have eaten up his daylight that he would've liked to spend hunting, but that hole in the fence wasn't about to repair itself. The last thing Ricard wanted was for the livestock to end up running off and getting eaten by wolves. Or for Olivier to do the same. His little brother was currently entering that rambunctious period of his life where he was always running around trying to prove himself, even if it meant getting in over his head in quite a few different ways. If Ricard and the twins weren't keeping him distracted with all sorts of games, he always ended up getting himself in a spot of trouble.
Briefly, Ricard wondered if he was as much of a pain as a kid.
Nevertheless, he was done just in time for the best part of the day. He waved to his mother in the window, a sign that he'd be back in just a few more minutes, and made his way to His Spot. It was a three minute's walk away from the farm, a place where he could swear the grass was just a little softer and the trees were firm and comfortable when leaned against. Maybe that was just his fatigue after hard work talking, but regardless it was where Ricard always went after he was done with his daily duties. This was especially true in the summer, where the day stretched long enough for the sun to just start setting as Ricard arrived. He sat down and leaned against a tree, putting his hands behind his head as he stretched out.
He was right on time. The sky was just starting to turn a pinkish orange color, and the clouds were parting as if inviting Ricard to get the perfect view. The drowsy chirps of birds and groggy buzzing of insects vied for his attention, as nature prepared for its nightly changing of the guard. The sky only turned richer as the sun began to lower, casting the world below in heavy shadow. Ricard watched his own shadow stretch and turn, as it always did before it inevitably melded into the darkness of the night. It'd be dinner soon, but he wasn't hungry. A sight like this was always enough to keep him distracted and whet his appetite. Rather than worry about that, he just sighed happily and let himself give in to the tranquility.
Nothing could ruin an evening like this!
