OoC: Takes place during 'Trampled Plains'
"Thank you," Selibas smiled up at the woman who gave him his directions through the sea of gers. He was looking for one of the gers of the Miagani, and though he was getting better at telling the subtle differences in the craftsmanship of different tribes apart, he still needed help to figure out which ger was which when every few looked incredibly similar, and they were all together in clumps. So, he'd been asking for directions more and more, and people were more than willing to help him. They all knew who he was, there were whispers as he approached any Sacaens in a group, and they returned when he walked away. So, it didn't take long to find the Redhead's tent. There was still a bit of time before he'd decided to call the march, and he had decided now was the time to find her and apologize for whatever it was that he had said that forced Chelsea to tears. He didn't want to hurt her, plus he liked having someone in the camp he could talk to besides Khasar, Dale, and Coke who treated him like a regular human being.
So when he finally stood outside of her tent, hot teapot in his hand with a piece of cloth between his hand and the handle and two cups in his hand. He'd gotten the tea from a certain Lorca guard in exchange for a few choice secrets about his cousin. It wasn't very good, and not nearly as good as the tea Midori had given him, but then he might have been biased in that regard. Holding the tea as steadily as he could, he cleared his throat, and said, "Chelsea, it's Selibas. I have tea, can I come in?"

Ah, peace and quite. It had been a long ride, full of people constantly talking and yelling and fighting. Not that she minded it, but it was nice to have some alone time every now and then. Thankfully for her, she had turn down her father's offer to share a tent. She knew he had wanted her to say no, just in case he brought a new lady friend home, but she would have said no regardless.
With everything that had been going on lately, she needed one place that she could be alone if needed. Sure, she may invite Altani back her some day when the horde was done riding for the day. Or maybe Midori, if she'd like. But for now, it was her own little private sanctuary. That was, however, until she heard a voice at the entrance. Oh, joy. Selibas was here. She sighed. She wasn't actually still mad at him, especially after her talk with Midori. She didn't even know if she was still mad at Kelvin or not. There were so many emotions there, she wasn't ready to deal with them yet.
The redhead pulled herself up into a sitting position. She straightened her little sleeping area out. She didn't have any furniture like some of the other tents, hers was much more simple. She spread out her blanket so that he would have a place to sit, regardless of whether or not she really wanted him to. "Well, you're the Khan, I can't really say no." There was a bite to her voice that said maybe there was still some anger there, but not enough to prevent him from entering.

When her voice came through the wool barrier of her ger, Selibas could have winced. She was still angry, angry at him for saying something, and he wasn't really sure what it had been. They'd been discussing Kelvin, and Selibas had made an attempt to offer some comfort to her. And then she'd started to cry. Then she'd left and Selibas had been confused. With a sigh, he stepped through the flaps, and found himself in her ger.
However, as he searched for a place to set the tea down, what she said ate away at him. "You can always tell me no Chelsea. When we are in private, know that you always have the right to tell me no, and I won't be any more angry at you than anyone else has the right to be. I'm the Khan, but I'd rather be Selibas when we're alone. If you want me to leave, I will leave." Selibas looked around the floor/ground of her tent, and couldn't make out where she'd like him to set down his tea. "But if you'd like me to stay, where can I set down this tea."
There was a blanket, but it seemed like that was where Chelsea wanted to sit, or for him to sit, if she let him stick around. The tea's heat had been a lot to bear even through the cloth, and now that it seemed like an option that he could set it down, the heat really resonated against his hand, and Selibas really hoped he could set it down. "I just came to apologize."

Chelsea watched as the Little Wolf entered her ger. He was indeed holding a teapot, which meant he wasn't at least lying about that. She didn't know why he would be lying about that, but it was a thought that crossed her mind. Maybe she really was still upset with him. He said that she was able to tell him no. Yeah, because that would go over well with the other Sacaens around them. If the Khan paid you a personal visit and you turned him away, people would talk. The last thing they needed was people to start questioning Selibas' leadership if just a random person could turn him away.
She gestured to the blanket for him to sit. "You can get the tea on the ground. Just don't put it on the blanket, I don't want it to burn a hole in it." That was a mistake she didn't want to make again. Kelvin had once ruined a blanket in exactly the same way, and she really liked this blanket. Chelsea shifted herself back slightly to make sure there was enough space on the blanket for Selibas. She was slightly surprised when he said he was here to apologize. Turns out he did realize that he said something wrong. He might not actually know what it was he said, but it was a step. Or maybe Midori had clued him into it after she broke down to her. Chelsea tilted her head slightly. "Do you even know what you're apologizing for?"

When the red haired Sacaen pointed to the ground, Selibas quickly went to his knees as she began to shift around to make room for him on the blanket. He quickly poured tea into both cups and extended both of them to her. As he lifted his own, she asked him a question he'd been hoping to avoid, about whether or not he knew why he was apologizing. It was stupid of him to even wish for such a thing, he was there to apologize, his reasoning was certain to come up. Still, he wasn't sure his explanation of events would be good enough.
Before he answered he sipped his tea, and screwed his face up as he took the cup away from his lips. It was nothing like Midori's tea, hers had been sweet with odd spices and a melody of tastes he'd never had before. Of course, it had also had the benefit of being made by Midori, but the short Sacaen was choosing to ignore how greatly that element swayed his opinion. This tea was bitter, but not in a good way, like Whiskey or Black Airag. It was bitter the way wine was bitter on his tongue, in a flat way, like it was simply water someone had ruined. However, for the Juyin and the Lorca, it was offensive to offer women you were not courting or married to Airag anywhere but your own ger, and while Selibas didn't know if such was the case for the Migani, he didn't want to take the chance and upset Chelsea further. So he drank the bitter tea that he had been assured was very good, and then gave his answer.
"I have... an idea. I know that what I said upset you, but that's not what I'm apologizing for. If I had said the right thing, and you'd been upset, I wouldn't have liked it, but I don't know if I'd be here to apologize. But what I reasoned out on my rides the past few days, is that what I said was insensitive. What I said was meant to comfort you, but..." the Little Wolf's voice was straining to keep it's natural huskier quality out. Usually when he was speaking to friends or soldiers he spoke in his most natural voice, his grammar and elocution slipping. When he spoke to large groups, he made an effort to sound as competent as he could by speaking the way he'd overheard his uncle speak to other Khans. However, in situations like this, he needed to speak like he was choosing his words carefully, but also with more intimacy than days like when he had first spoken to the assembly of tribes. "But I was wrong in how I tried to do it.
Kelvin is my friend. He's one of the first people I became friends with, and I'd say one of my best. I was trying to defend him at the same time as I comforted you, because I thought they were one and the same, and because well, I bled next to him. He was my brother in arms. But now, you're my sister in them, and it's unfair of me to put his feelings above yours. I don't know everything that happened. I don't know both sides of the story, but I do know I spoke poorly when I wanted to defend him and make sure that you knew that you were important to him, and that's why I'm sorry. I won't ever try to make you feel like what you feel isn't how you should feel Chelsea. Because you are my comrade, and if I didn't hurt you too much, you're my friend." As he finished, a soft smile touched his lips, giving his right cheek a phantom of his single dimple, and his voice sounded just a bit closer to its typical gruffness.

Chelsea watched as Selibas sat down and poured them both tea. She wasn't exactly sure what to expect from this visit. He had said that he wanted to apologize, but would it really do anything at this point? To bide time until he spoke, she decided to try some of the tea and instantly regretted it. Where had he gotten this stuff? It was horrible. She hoped someone had given it to him, because it he had brought this in hopes to make things better, he had sorely missed the mark.
The redhead listened as he began to talk. It seemed as though he had realized he had done something wrong, which was a good start. She stayed quiet as he talked, not wanting to be rude and cut him off. When he finally stopped, she paused for a minute, taking everything in. "I appreciate your apology. It wasn't so much what you said that upset me, so much as the implications of it. You said that you had to pull yourself away from the Rebellion when you heard what was happening to Sacae. If you knew about it, I'm willing to guess that Kelvin did too. And he stayed behind in Bern. To me, that meant one of three things. He was either once again choosing the Rebellion over coming to Sacae and finding me, he didn't think I'd be here, meaning he thought staying in hiding would be important to me than aiding my people, or he didn't even think of me when he heard about it. And honestly, none of those options are very appealing."

"I didn't tell Kelvin, my cousin came and told me, and I left. So I can't tell you what happened with him, I don't know, but I do know that we're here, and if you need me, I'll be here for you." Selibas' cheeks colored in a way slightly different from when he spoke to Midori. Friendly affection was almost as new to him as any sort of romantic interest, and most of the time when he showed it, it was veiled in a joke or something else to distract for the fact that he cared for the person he spoke to. Outside of Zach, Kelvin, and Dale, Selibas struggled to trust people with his, well, trust. He always felt like he was moments from being laughed at.
Hopefully Chelsea wouldn't laugh.
Selibas rubbed the back of his neck hard with the knuckles of his left hand, then laughed lightly. "I practically flew out of Bern the second I heard about everything that had happened. I was just filled all at once with rage, and sadness, and fear, and... regret. The only thing I've wanted for a very long time was to see Sacae as one. To have my people defiantly look Elibe in the face and say we are not a playground. And when the beast marched in, I was gone. And now that I'm here, back in my home, Sacae has come together in defense, I've met a beautiful woman, and I more people close to me. It's not how I wanted it to happen, but that anger forcing me out of Bern put me here. It's funny that so many moments have come out of this that have made me smile."

Chelsea gave Selibas a look. She knew he was trying to help, but his words were only causing her heart to sink more. Sure, if he left right away, he may not have told Kelvin. She didn't doubt that at all. What she couldn't believe, however, is that Kelvin wouldn't have heard why he left. Surely, if someone of Selibas' regard up and left suddenly, news would spread as to why he did so. In her mind, at least, Kelvin had to know about what was happening in Sacae. And thus, her three scenarios held up.
The redhead gave a sigh. "I'm happy for you, Selibas. Truly I am. It does my heart good to see so much of Sacae united, even if parts of it declined to join us. Midori is an amazing woman. You're welcome for that, by the way." A small smile tugged at her cheeks for the first time during their conversation, before disappearing as quickly as it came. "Hopefully, what we're doing here proves to the rest of the world what you say. Hopefully, this makes a difference. But regardless of what happens here, there will always be a hole in my heart. Unless Kelvin can stand in front of me and provide an explanation as to why he didn't follow you to Sacae, that hole will remain for the rest of my life. I may find someone else and move on in time, but even then that hole will remain. I'm broken, Selibas, and no about of kind words will put me back together."

Selibas grinned, and mouthed, "Thank you," to Chelsea before pouring himself another cup of the drab tea. He still hated this black bleak mix that seemed only to taste of ruined water, but it would give him something to do between sentences. Sipping it could give him time to think. This wasn't persuasion, or leading troops in battle, it was tip toeing around a person's feelings, and that was something Selibas had never had the chance to practice at. When he was a child, looking at someone too long had been enough to upset them, and now, well sometimes it still was for some people.
Sadly, with Chelsea, it seemed he'd upset her once more with his words. Her face and tone fell, and she said that she had a hole in her heart. Selibas knew the feeling, it was how he'd felt when word had reached him of his mentor's death while in Bern. For days he'd shook to sleep, and felt cold chills running through his cheeks. Some nights in his tent, he still wept while alone. He knew the feeling well.
She said that no amount of kind words could make her feel whole again. That wouldn't do. He needed her whole, she was his friend, and someone who didn't fear him enough to step on egg shells around him. He would need her whole. Kind words wouldn't help her, so perhaps what she needed were stupid ones. "Chelsea, would you like to hear the story of the time I accidentally turned up in front of a group of young clerics with no pants on?" It was a long shot, but maybe laughter would improve her mood for at least a moment.

Chelsea followed Selibas' lead and went for another drink of the tea before instantly regretting it. If it had been almost anyone else, she would have spit it out in disgust. As Selibas was the Khan, however, she felt it would be best not to insult the team that he had brought. Instead, she forced it down and set the cup aside, making a mental note not to touch it again. She acknowledged his mouthed thank you with a small nod, but didn't open her mouth again.
The redhead wanted to let her mind wander, but knew that would only lead to bad things. Sure, she could think of Altani, but even thinking of her would eventually lead to Kelvin as well. Everything seemed to eventually always come back to Kelvin. Instead, she kept her eyes closed for a second and attempted to clear her head. Opening them with a sigh, she looked back over at Selibas. He offered a story about something about him not having pants on. If she had to guess, it was his attempt at telling some sort of humorous story to cheer her up. Unfortunately for him, she wasn't in the mood. In fact, the last thing she wanted right now.
"Sorry, Selibas, but no I don't." The archer pushed the cup of bad tea towards the Khan and got to her feet. "Thank you for the tea, but I have things I must attend to." In truth, she had nothing. It was her way of politely asking him to leave.
