Much to her pleasure, Katsumi's response seemed to have startled the brigands. Not drastically, like if a wild wyvern had landed in front of them, but enough to make them flinch a bit. At least they shut up, that was what she wanted more than anything. The weirdest part of all this was that Asura actually gave some sort of reaction to her retort at the bandits. Could have been a bit an insult her way, but it was actually...humorous?
Whatever, she'd figure out this guy if he lived to the end of the fight. The leader of this group stepped out, hailed by one of the other bandits. Guy's name was Renton...not exactly what she expected from a bandit leader. To his credit he looked a fair bit more impressive than the others, he at least had the right confidence. Yeah, he even had that same faint stench that the usual mountain men had. Wasn't a real smell, just a sort of air or aura you could pick up. Once you saw one real highwaymen you could tell them apart from the wannabes.
Katsumi grinned wider now. She'd definitely want to take a shot at that guy.
Asura drew his blade and Kat drew hers at the same time. Her sword was significantly shorter than his, likely one more suited to his typical style, but more importantly it suited her own needs. It allowed her to get in close but still compete with the range of conventional weaponry. Kat held the blade before her with two hands and took a breath, calming her energy down just a bit. She'd cut loose when the moment was right.
Stay alive, Asura told her, curt and cut as ever. Katsumi snorted. "Aww, you care about me? So sweet." Was her sarcastic response mere seconds before she sprung towards the man with the axe. They were outnumbered, after all. The longer they waited the more likely they were to be overwhelmed by that disadvantage. Instead making the aggressive move first was definitely the smarter play, catch the men off guard and work with their chaotic reactions.
The man's axe was ready for Kat when she arrived and he shifted the blade to block a swing from her sword, locking steel against steel.
The fight was on.
