Leiva started and promptly stopped flailing her arms like an idiot as she heard the older woman's voice directly beside her, bashful at her own apparent lack of self-awareness. She blinked and laughed nervously, looking up at what she supposed she could consider her partner in her property-ruining escapades. The novice blew a strand of hair out of her face and crossed her arms, smirking and shaking her head dismissively at Katsumi's statement, jokingly replying with, "I only stroke out over real important stuff, trust me." Another good-natured laugh followed shortly, the novice nodding in acknowledgement as Katsumi affirmed her name with her. Katsumi, hm? That was an interesting name, to be sure. It sounded... old, somehow. It conjured up images of something eastern, something oriental, but that was dumb. Sacae was as far east as you could get in Elibe, so Leiva supposed that Katsumi had been graced with a particularly peculiar name. "Katsumi? I like it. It fits. My name's Leiva. I feel like we're gonna get along real well." Leiva punctuated her statement with a grin, raising her arm and dashing a bit of sweat from her brow.

"But you DO stroke out, then? Yeah, that's real reassuring." Kat replied in her usual snarky manner, even throwing in a snort afterwords. Maybe that had been the kids uh, victory dance? But really for a second there Kat had thought she had just taken a blow to the head without realizing. Hell that still could be the case. "And just call me Kat, kiddo."
Yes, call me what I want but I'll still call you what you want. Diplomatic and reasonable as always, Kat. Ah well, she was still calling the kid "kid" or variants of the term.
As for getting along with her, well, that remained to be seen. Leiva was kinda funny in a "I really wonder where the hell your parents are but I mean I guess you're all right in a fight" sort of way. And that was a pretty unique way to be "funny", but it DID touch on a serious point. Not that Kat was ever a law-abiding or even curfew-abiding kind of girl, but somehow Kat doubted Leiva's folks would be completely okay with her assisting in the start of a dangerous bar brawl.
"I mean, yeah, we put in a fair bit of work together in the tavern there." Kat uttered, giving a shrug as she continued to stride along down the street. "But I kinda figured you'd be aiming to scurry off home after that. Not doubting your balls, just uh...how old are you, anyway?"
There was something to be...not quite "ashamed" of, but a bit disturbed about if her most recent friend, aside from that frustratingly hot swordsman hah, as if they were 'friends' was some punky little squirt. Besides, she didn't plan on lingering around Bulgar and she sure as crap wasn't lugging some kid along with her.

"Will do," Leiva replied. It seemed that, regardless of the fact that Katsumi had been graced with the novice's name, she was still going call her 'kid.' Logically, Leiva should've been at least a little bit perturbed by that, but honestly, she wasn't. She couldn't exactly place it, but it felt more like a nickname than a derogatory term to the would-be thief, which was especially surprising, considering she had a tendency to be offended by almost everything. Regardless, she appreciated it in an odd, obtuse way. "I'm..." Leiva thought for a quick moment, looking up at the sky and counting on her fingers subtly, then returning her eyes back down to Katsumi's. "Fifteen. Or was it fourteen? I stopped counting a while ago. Besides, why would I run away? I've been worse situations at less convenient times. And besides, I got to punch someone! I haven't been able to do that in a long time," Leiva stated. And she meant it, as well. It had been a long time since she'd been able to get into any chaotic situation that wasn't borderline life-threatening, and it was a very cathartic opportunity indeed. The fighting sparked something in her, excited her, made her want to hurt. And while that last bit wasn't too pleasant, the excitement portion definitely was. "Then again, the only reason that I was in there at all was because I was waiting for him," the novice muttered, crossing her arms and huffing.

"Sky a-freaking-bove you're fourteen?!" Kat blurted out, eyes opened wide as she stared down at the pinkette. Yeah, sure, Leiva had said fifteen first, but Kat figured that if you were given two ages ALWAYS assumed the younger. Unless they were an old man. They'd probably want that. Either way she felt ah, actually sort of bad that she had dragged a legit tween or pre-teen into that brawl. Kat...hadn't really thought about it at all, at first. Maybe she had just assumed Leiva was an adult dwarf? Or at least some short like, seventeen year old chick. Since three years was such a big difference after all.
Still, though, Leiva had seemed to thoroughly enjoy the fight and she stuck by that. Well, kid did have some guts, even if she couldn't count her own damn age. Though that last point was ah, a tad jarring. Even if she didn't know her own age, surely she ought to know someone who did? Like oh, Kat didn't know, her parents maybe? Kid mentioned waiting for a "him", and Dirt Mom knows Kat prayed that this mysterious male was not the kid's boyfriend. Tween romances were the actual worst.
"Well uh, hey, glad I helped you break your dry streak." Kat said with a snort. Her wording probably went right over the teeny-bopper's head. What a great influence Kat was. "But uh, if you were waiting on a dude at that tavern, he's probably going to be miffed when he turns up and sees a bunch of passed out patrons, minus one you."
Kat wasn't about to tell the kid how to live her life but again, she didn't exactly want her to stick around. The last thing Kat wanted to do was pick up a stray, so she held onto the hope that Leiva actually had a place to ah, live. Or at least someone to serve as her guardian or whatever kids needed. Ideally she ah, wouldn't be an orphan, and her parents would be her guardians, but Leiva had thrown a few subtle red-flags and...well, she wouldn't be the only orphan to wander about Bulgar.
"Who's this guy you're waiting on, anyway? Your dad? I hope not, because if so he's a real piss-stain for telling his kid to meet him at the tavern."
Whilst Kat had been looking down at Leiva, she had bumped shoulders with another burly woman. "Watch where you're going!" the woman called out, only to earn a rather rude hand gesture and a snort back from Kat. Cloud Dad above she hated Bulgar so damned much.

Leiva rolled her eyes in irritation at Katsumi's exclamatory remark. Of course she was around that age; most people could tell just by looking at her. Hell, she probably looked even younger to the untrained eye. And sure, even though she was fourteen or fifteen or whatever, what does that matter if she could hold her own? Moreover, Kat seemed to be completely content in ruining a perfectly good bar with the would-be thief and only expressed any sort of surprise(distaste?) when she was informed of her name. But really, how could Leiva blame her? It wasn't every day that you saw a barely-teenager launch a calm, peaceful environment into one of the most chaotic crapshows this side of Sacae. Because of this, Leiva dismissed her thoughts on the matter and decided to let it slide, a rare commodity offered by the know-it-all novice. "It's no biggie. He'll find me eventually. Always does." Leiva shrugged. While her mentor would certainly be peeved at the sight of a ruined building and a group of half-dead scoundrels in the novice's stead, he could easily find her about the crowds. Honestly, how many one-eyed pink-haired orphan children could there be wandering the streets of Bulgar? In any case, Leiva reminded herself mentally to at least stay in the general area of the bar to make it easy on him. Even if she was enjoying her new acquaintance's company greatly. The novice made a humming noise in the back of her throat as she pondered how to answer Katsumi's question. "Nope. He's my mentor." Leiva paused for a moment. "You probably already figured this out, but he's not great with kids." Leiva punctuated her statement with a laugh, which was cut short momentarily by the intimidating woman's collision with Kat. Well, for as much as she could say about enjoying Kat's company, Leiva definitely could not state with confidence that she was the most well-mannered person to be around. But hey, it was no skin off the would-be thief's back if the older woman cursed like a sailor or not.

Well didn't Leiva have such a carefree spirit? Apparently her situation did not seem to concern her in the slightest. Heh, well whatever. If it didn't matter to her then it sure as crap didn't matter to Kat. Though uh, yeah, she at least had enough tact to read between the lines. Leiva never confirmed a "ha parents what are those?" kind of deal but uh, the guy she was waiting on was not her father. Also apparently not her tween boyfriend either. At least that was good news, right? This kid was fine enough, Kat supposed, but she doubted how well she would handle another one.
"Well uh, yeah clearly. But I mean you got your revenge. If he was looking to have a pint of ale he'll have to hit up another tavern now." Again, Bulgar. There was no shortage of booze stops in the gods-forsaken city. Bulgar really just was a gigantic sinkhole for money and morality. Of course Kat didn't exactly have an issue with depravity as a whole, not as much as most people...she assumed, but the drunks and perverts and arrogant pricks that strolled along through Bulgar still rubbed her the wrong way.
An impressive feat...said no one ever.
Well uh, drat. Kid was still following her. Kat was pretty close to telling her to scram, albeit more politely than she told most people to scram. Without cursing or physical aides to accentuate her point, such as her fist down their throat. But...crap, she felt some pity for the kid. No parents with some deadbeat for a mentor. "What the hell does he mentor you in anyway? Slurping down piss ale?"
Yes yes Kat was certainly a much more wholesome presence for the impressionable mind of a young teenage girl. Surely she would server a better inspiration and guiding light than this mystery mentor ever could.

"Oh, he doesn't drink," Leiva spoke dismissively. At least, not that she was aware of. Even if he did, that was no skin off of her back, especially considering that being dumped in that tavern unsupervised led to the most enjoyable day she had had since coming to this filthy, crowded city. Especially considering that it led to the novice meeting a fairly agreeable acquaintance, dare she say, friend. Well, whatever. She was getting lost in thought again. Leiva laughed at Katsumi's rather crass statement, but shook her head and spoke shortly after the sporadic giggles subsided. "I can't really tell you what he trains me in. He's a bit of a stickler regarding what I'm allowed to say about my training." Nice cover, Leiva. Kat wasn't exactly going to assume that the novice was going through some uber-confidential baking courses, now was she? But hey, the thief-in-training could just make up an alibi should Katsumi press the matter further; unfortunately, however, Leiva was not exactly the greatest liar. Although, Part of Leiva told herself that even if she did disclose her larcenous ways to Kat the older woman wouldn't care, especially considering her demeanor had led the novice to believe she wasn't exactly the most law-abiding citizen, but if there was one thing Leiva had learned in her life, it was that you couldn't judge a book by its cover. "How about you? Do you just roam Sacae looking for taverns to ruin?"

"He doesn't drink? Holy hell. How does he put up with you then?" The jab had left Kat's lips before she realized the incredibly shifty implications that Leiva had just left her with. So Leiva is a presumably orphaned young girl with an older man as a 'mentor', who does not drink yet wanted to meet her in a tavern, and has told Leiva to keep everything about her 'training' a secret.
Uhhh.
Yeah, Kat decided to leave that topic alone.
On another, less disturbing note, what sort of person didn't drink in this day and age? Elibe was an absolute mess. And that was putting it as politely as Kat possibly could.
"That uh, that being said..." She averted her gaze from the whacky munchkin and looked to the sky. "I couldn't really tell you why I was here. That tavern brawl was just a case of seizing the moment. I saw a big dumb angry drunk and figured I could turn that into a good time." Oh boy did that sound wrong. Kat wasn't really sure what her type was, apparently tall sassy Sacaen men who ticked her off every other minute, but that drunken bastard was not it. He sure had been entertaining, though. Like a big dumbass carnival freak.
"Hell I don't even know why I'm in Sacae right now. This whole country could rot in hell and I wouldn't give a damn." Probably a bit overdramatic, but Kat was not going to elaborate on that story. It was also at least mostly true. But, given how hot and bothered she seemed to get over that jerkass Asura, Kat was apparently attracted to things that inspired rage and frustration in her. Oh boy did that bode well for her mental health.
"I wander Elibe in general. Serve as a mercenary for the most part, and just finished a decent paying job a couple days back." Kat went on to elaborate. Before she continued further, though, she turned off the main road the two had been walking along and took a single step into a small alleyway. It was empty, void of any people, which was just was Kat wanted. She leaned back against the stoney wall and let out a sigh of relief.
"Don't know why but I guess I decided to hit up Badon. It wasn't exactly in the area, but I was close and I'd only been once before. City stinks like crap, though. And the people stink even worse."

"Don't even ask me. I guess he's too enraptured by my charisma to care," Leiva retorted haughtily. She laughed at her own joke, a reaction that was likely hyperbolic even by her standards, but really, she thought it was hilarious, and nuts to Kat if she didn't think so too. Okay, well maybe not nuts to her, but shame on her! Leiva had a good sense of humor, and one would be remiss not to appreciate it fully when given the opportunity.
Leiva looked up at Katsumi as she explained her motivations for helping her trash the tavern, studying her face closely. It came as no surprise to Leiva that Kat just wanted to cause trouble, but she didn't really expect that that was the sole reason for fighting the big, drunk, angry dude. Or maybe she just held Kat to too high standards. In all honesty, that was probably the case; besides, Leiva couldn't judge. She sacked the guy right in the goodie bag just for being a bit of an oaf to a woman. This same thought process led her to not be surprised when the older woman shared her less-than-favorable opinion of Sacae. Maybe Kat was just jaded, or maybe she was just ornery, but the would-be thief couldn't really see all of the corruption that Katsumi's words implied. Maybe due to naivete, maybe due to having too much faith, but the most unfavorable opinion the novice held about Sacae was the cities were kind of stinky and crowded, and even that was a kind of empty claim, considering most of Sacae's population consisted of tall grass and incredibly hostile winds.
A mercenary, huh? Now, that was the least surprising thing to Leiva. She had kind of pegged Kat for being the type who cared about herself above all else, and what better way to care for yourself than to surround yourself in enough gold to make a dragon have a stroke? She supposed that that wasn't the worst line of work to be in, either; good pay, good thrills, less than favorable company, but generally one would be expected to make the most of it, she assumed. The novice filed the topic away in her mind under things to be considered, but for now, she didn't really have an answer.
At hearing Katsumi's words, she spoke again. "Geez, a girl might get the impression that you don't like Badon." Leiva entered the alley with the older woman, probably not a wise decision on her part, but she figured she could trust this lady. They had already ruined somebody's primary source of income, and what better bonding experience than that?

“Charisma? Hah, sure. If that's what you wanna call it.” Kat really didn't think the term “enraptured” was a good one to use regarding her mentor, given that he may or mat not be a uh...yeah. Either way it was still creepy and Kat didn't really know how to feel about it. Leiva didn't seem to imply that was the case between them, nor did she look abused or anything, so she supposed there wasn't any reason to be uptight about it. Besides, what was she gonna do? It was the squirt's life.
Kat reclined against the wall a bit and let out a small sigh. Apparently Leiva had caught on through Kat's “subtle” hints that she wasn't a big fan of Bulgar. Wait, had she said Badon? See! That was how much she hated this shithole. She couldn't even stand just thinking it's freaking name. Still, Kat gestured towards the street they had just come from before she continued on.
“Well I mean, you walk down the streets and see the same damn crap I see, right?” Assholes from other countries that come for “exotic Sacaen goods”, all the bloody drunks, and the worst sellswords of them all stuck around the place too. The jerkass ones who pissed their gold away on whatever local ale was around. Exotic Sacaen goods...oh god and there was the freaking underground market, too. Not that Kat had actually witnessed it or anything, but it definitely had one. It HAD to have one.
“This city blows. Really, I'm not sure why I came here aside from to piss some gold away. Been looking for a half decent weapon too, but if I don't find one soon then I'm out of here.” Seriously, that was something she still needed to do. Once she hit up the blacksmiths who set up shop in the city and spent another night at the inn, stupid as that idea was with the inflated costs of Bulgar's inns, she was out of there. She'd make the long haul back to Lycia, or hell, even hit up Bern.
“I'd tell you to get the hell out of here too but you've got your mentor, I guess.” Kat looked down at Leiva and shrugged. Sucked to be her, she guessed. “Either way I can't stick around, squirt. City makes my skin crawl, and I really need a better weapon than this shoddy sword.”

Leiva giggled at Katsumi's retort. Oddly enough, she wasn't really offended by any of the older girl's jabs or prods, despite the fact that she clearly should've been; she didn't honestly know why, herself. Maybe she just recognized for one of the only times in her life that not everybody was out to offend and inconvenience her. Imagine that. She found herself growing more comfortable with Katsumi's presence as they exchanged words, despite the context in which the conversation was bred.
Well, Kat certainly had a way with words, if nothing else. Adorning her statements with colorful curses left and right, and all that, but Leiva slowly learned that it was best to filter it out as best she could. She perked up slightly as Katsumi mentioned needing a weapon, nodding slightly and opening her cloak to reveal the sword holstered at her side. "If you need a weapon, I got this thing made somewhere a few days back. If you head East for a couple of blocks, then head north into the market center, it should be in plain site," Leiva informed Kat quickly. Directing her to what appeared to be one of her objectives was the least Leiva could do for Kat, especially considering she mentioned she had to get out of Bulgar soon. For some reason, Leiva felt a weird pang in her chest at hearing the news, as if somebody had pinched her, but it was hard to put her finger on. "No, I get it. This place isn't exactly the picturesque image of urban wonder, is it? I'm only around for as long as he is," Leiva said indifferently, shrugging.
The novice sighed. Well, the first person remotely resembling a trustworthy comrade she had met since arriving in Bulgar had to leave immediately. But then again, it wasn't like Leiva could blame her; Bulgar was a filthy, noisy city at the best of times, and that was just an irrefutable fact.
