Kayla placed a hand against her pegasus’ muzzle. She spoke in a friendly tone, the way many people speak to children. “We’re gonna rob these idiots blind aren’t we?” The Pegasus neighed and stomped a hoof. Kayla neighed in agreement.“Yes we are! And then were gonna fly off into the night aren’t we?” Polly neighed again and bobbed her head up and down. “Wat are ya talkin’ bout back there?” The bandit was closer than Kayla had expected but apparently the burly brute hadn’t heard anything. “Oh nothing, isn’t that right Polly?” The Pegasus bobbed it’s head again and Kayla wrapped her arms around the animal’s neck. The mane smelled nice, at least to Kayla it did. The bandit left with a curse and a grunt. Kayla stuck a tongue out at the man’s back. Ya big, dumb, stupid, idiot.
The time came when her mission would soon begin. She was charged with transporting goods out of the village from the air. It must’ve seemed like a great idea to these simple bandits. Little did they know, Kayla had other plans. She would play along with the raid, until she came across something she wanted, something truly valuable and she would simply bail. Fly off into the night, never to be heard from again. A quick and easy job for the girl and the Pegasus.
“Oi, yer up girlie.” The man who was charged with running the raid had given her the cue. Kayla saluted sarcastically and hopped onto Polly’s back. “Aye-Aye Captain!” Polly took four steps on the ground, then took to the air. She scanned the villiage, only one house was on fire so far. “Looks like most of the villagers complied with the shake down.” Kayla spoke to herself.
In the center of the village, sacks of coin were being gathered together with other goods. Vases, figurines, rugs, paintings. None of it had caught her eye so far. Kayla pulled the turquoise bandanna up around her nose to cover her face. She didn’t want any villagers to remember her features. Polly descended into the town where Kayla greeted her comrades with an overzealous wave. There was an awkward silence that followed. She took a step off Polly’s back and looked around the village.
“So… How’s the murder and pillaging?” A bandit responded with a scowl. “Yer In on this too. Don’t act like ya ain’t.” Kayla raised a hand with a lazy palm turned to the sky. “Well of course I am, big guy. We’re as thick as thieves right?” Kayla smiled at her quip but it couldn’t be seen beneath the bandanna. “Who cares just get this gold back to camp.” Kayla saluted again and tied a few bags of coin to Polly.
“Be back soon, old buddy, old pal.” Polly took to the sky again for the return trip. Kayla spoke to the flying horse. “Well, I didn’t see anything too great there did you?” The Pegasus blew air through its nostrils. “Yeah,” Kayla sighed. “Hopefully they find something soon. I’m good on gold for the time being.”

Polly landed gracefully back at the base camp. Kayla unstrapped the bags of coin and left them in a pile on a table. The head of the raid addressed her. “Hm good work. I thought youd of tried to take off wit our gold first chance ya got.” Kayla feigned emotion at the accusation. She placed her fingers against her chest plate. “Why me? I’m offended. I would never do something so… so underhanded.” The bandit looked away. The averted eyes caught Kayla off guard.
“Just a heads up. I put your face out already.” Kayla tilted her head inquisitively. There was no way they were this mistrustful. “You what exactly?”
“Yer face is on every wanted poster from ‘ere to Etruria. You’d best head out of here.” She had been betrayed. Kayla was upset to find this out, she hadn’t even done anything wrong yet.
“Are you kidding me? I was helping you! And you sell me out like this? You, you, you… ” The bandit approached Kayla to console her, but she shoved his reassuring arm away. Polly stomped a hoof outside the hideout.
“Look girlie, we can protec' ya from the soldiers.” Another layer of betrayal was added. The only thing Kayla could do was growl in anger and disgust. A rumbling came from her throat. “Rrrrr” Apparently the bandit understood that she was upset, very upset.
He sighed and spoke. “ We reported a raid done by a Pegasus knight to the military in Worde. They are probably on their way now.” Kayla took that as her cue to push her way through toward the exit. The bandit followed as she hopped atop Polly and drove her heels into the Pegasus’ side. The animal began trotting and took to the sky. Kayla could hear the bandit’s parting words as she flew away.
“I like you n yer work. I would like to do work again sometime..” Kayla pulled her bandanna up against her face again. Now it was especially imperative that nobody saw her face. She was a fugitive, who was going to take the blame for an entire bandit group. She placed her head against Polly’s mane. “Those blockheads outplayed me. Never again.” Polly bobbed its head in agreement, while ascending. Kayla scanned the scene and what she saw terrified her. “Is that a ballista? For one peg knight?” She pulled the reins on Polly and dove fast, into the forest. They landed, Kayla still couldn’t make sense of all this.
Kayla rode Polly as if it were a normal horse through the forest. She yanked the reins after hearing the snap of a branch. She spoke to Polly in a whisper. “We can still make it out of here.” Polly barely bobbed a head. A knight came into eyeshot and called out.
“Young Wing, You are surrounded by the military of Worde. Throw down your arms and you will be detained.” Kayla growled but complied, reluctantly. Archers climbed down from the trees around her. She didn’t even know they were there. She had lost this round, clearly.

Kayla was in irons and Polly was given an iron muzzle. As if the Pegasus would bite one of these military folks. As Kayla was being escorted to the detention cell, she tried to plead her case with her captors. “Listen, I’m telling you. You have the wrong girl. Please, I’m not who you think I am.” One of the military folks leaning in and whispered to the one that seemed to be in charge. Maybe she was getting through to them. The man gave a signal that caused the group to stop marching. The leader turned toward her and spoke.
“For the time being, we cannot risk letting you go. We will continue to treat you as the fugitive known as Young Wing.” The man turned around and continued the march. Kayla sighed. She wasn’t a fugitive. Well, she wasn’t the fugitive they thought she was. She hadn’t even been that bad recently. Sure she participated in a village raid earlier that day, but that’s just business. Wait that was it.
“Tell ya what. I can make a deal with you guys.” The leader stopped the march once again. Kayla smiled and continued. “Got your attention huh? How would you like to know where --”Kayla was cut off by the leader approaching her and getting uncomfortably close to her face. He spoke at an uncomfortably loud volume as well.
“Listen carefully. This trip of ours is not a time for negotiation. You are a captive. You will remain silent until you are spoken to.” The man turned away and Kayla rolled her eyes. Power trip much. Kayla looked in Polly’s direction. The Pegasus blew air out of its mouth, beneath the muzzle. Kayla smirked at the winged horse’s defiance.
The march was boring and trying on the young Pegasus rider. She was tired of walking. Nonetheless, she trudged on, through the woods toward their destination. Kayla turned her head skyward as something caught her eye. She gasped. “Mister military guy--”
“What did I say earlier? We can make this trip very uncomfortable for you.” Kayla raised her cuffed arms and pointed upward. “Just look.” Sure enough, the silhouette of a pegasus and a rider crossed in front of a full moon. “Oh Gods, archers get in position. Take that rider down.”
The soldiers began to scramble to gain vantage points on the flyer. The flyer was moving quickly though. Too quickly for the footmen to catch and take down. Kayla had her bargaining chip. “You know, I can probably catch up to that rider.” Kayla smirked at the leader’s dilemma. Would he trust her enough to allow her to chase after the other fugitive, or would he let the more valuable catch run free?
“Son of a-” The man unbound her cuffs and removed Polly’s muzzle. “Listen here, if you catch that rider, and they are Young Wing, I will erase all of your crimes.” Kayla saluted and hopped onto Polly’s saddle. A few steps and she took off in pursuit of the other flyer.

Kayla took to the sky in swift pursuit of the other pegasus rider. So far what she had gathered was this, that person is likely a wanted criminal, more so than Kayla was herself. If Kayla caught that rider, she would be in the clear. That said, she was somewhat in the clear as things currently stood. She could simply take off over the forest. So long as she kept low enough, the ballista couldn't hit her, not to mention the military would already have their hands full trying to catch this other wanted rider. But Kayla flew in pursuit anyway. She was curious who this person was, and what they had done to upset the military so.
Kayla approached slowly and deliberately, she didn't want to alarm this potential killer. As she approached, Kayla glanced at the flyer's gear. She recognized some of the weapons from her training. Axereaver, that ones a javelin and ooooh, is that a Delphi shield? I've never really seen one. Kayla flew in close to inspect but she had apparently crossed an invisible line. The rider swiftly drew her weapon and pointed it in Kayla's direction. With the weapon leveled, the flyer sped toward Kayla. Kayla pulled on Polly's reins to try to dodge the attack. The attacker was too fast. She wasn't going to be able to dodge it. "Wait wait wait! I am not trying to hurt you." The flyer eased off the charge.
"Do you work for Worde?" Kayla shook her head. "No I was just captured while they were looking for you. Thanks alot by the way. You are this Young Wing right?" The rider placed her weapon away and pulled her pegasus closer to Kayla. She was able to get a good look at the person. She had the typical aesthetic of a pegasus knight. Clean, serene, calm and oh so pretty. The pegasus was well fed and well trained. It was more armored than Polly was though. It even wore the horned muzzle that signified a falcon knight. This was confusing to Kayla for the rider didn't seem to be much older than she was.
"Young Wing is a name that I was given. I call myself Stella. Now if you don't mind this isn't a great place to talk." Stella nodded her head toward the soldiers who were organizing in the forest below. Kayla understood. "Okay then, how about we lose these boring biscuits behind and go somewhere and talk?" Stella shook her head. "You should not associate with me, for I am a wanted criminal." Kayla almost laughed.
"What? Do you think I'm not? I may even be more wanted than you are after I let you go free." The falcon knight sighed and relented. "You know what? Sure. If we move right now, you can come with, but try to stay low."
"Aye aye cap'n" The duo took off into the night. Kayla could hear the curses and orders of the Worde military from the sky. She simply smirked and continued following the wanted criminal.
