Name: Dwayne
Class: Taguel (Bear)
Age: 35
Born in: Holm Peaks, Vinland
Appearance: Man meets mountain in the impressive stature of Dwayne. The Bear Taguel stands an impressive two and some meters tall (perhaps about 6'8" in SAE units) and is solidly built, with well-defined muscles and taught, hale skin. The man's body is hearty and glows with color, though lines of white show the strips of scar tissue he has accumulated from battles and hunts. His face is, surprisingly, not very intimidating, though this could be due to the wide, genuine smile that seems to always be upon his face. His hair is absolutely wild, spraying in uncontrollable tufts and tight curls from all over his skull, and even his face, though he attempts to keep his facial hair more neatly groomed. His dark skin and light brown-gray hair blend well together; if he had the time and desire to take more care of his hair situation, he could pass for a very dapper gentleman indeed.
The Taguel's attire is also quite interesting. He sports a vest, which is usually left unbuttoned, and which he always seems to be replacing. The color therefore varies based on what he was able to find or purchase, and occasionally he is forced to wear a size that is too small, causing him to look even more unusual. But for the most part, the Taguel's appearance is that of a collected and responsible man, if a rather large and rough-hewn one.
Personality: Always quick to lend a hand, Dwayne derives satisfaction and meaning from helping others. The good-natured Bear Taguel will freely give his aid wherever he can, from helping move lumber for construction to carrying bags from the bazaar for old ladies. Back with his clan, he always loved to cook, and nothing gave him more joy than seeing others enjoy his cooking. Now, upon the shores of Elibe, he continues his habit of selfless service and good will, assisting any he comes across who are in need.
The dark side to this coin is when Dwayne truly feels his life is in jeopardy. In most fights, he restrains himself, fighting carefully to try and do as little damage as he can, merely seeking to stop a confrontation. But if he is threatened to the point of no return, the Bear Taguel lets loose his full might, attacking in a blind frenzy, a purely offensive rage that holds nothing back and seeks to end an altercation by utterly demolishing his foe.
After such an outburst, Dwayne always feels terrible, blaming himself for his inability to prevent such a scenario. As a result, he always takes responsibility for fighting, and is continually seeking to help others, to do good, and to be a beacon of good will and generosity, so as to 'offset' the evils of his angry, violent side. He hopes that by doing all he can to spread good, eventually he will no longer need to become truly angry, and there will be no cause for conflict.
Story: Dwayne was born in a mountain cave on the wild island of Vinland. Always a strong and healthy cub, he grew fast, maturing and becoming the largest and fastest in his litter of cubs. His parents, devoted to their offspring, brought them up to hold honor and respect as central, key morals, along with loyalty and good will. It is mainly from his parents that Dwayne derives his 'natural' goodness. Perhaps some of it is nature, but on the whole, nurture here has a prominent role.
As he grew up, Dwayne contributed more and more to the clan of bears, helping with many projects and building a name for himself, not as a master hunter, or a lord of combat, or as a rising leader of clan affairs, but simply as an honest and true worker, who could be counted upon to do a job well. He worked efficiently, humbly, and without ulterior motive.
When the humans of mainland Elibe arrived on Vinland's shores, Dwayne watched them with interest and with amusement. How they toiled, working to build small settlements and explore the island's majesty. So at night, as they slept, Dwayne contributed, helping by stripping bark from logs, or ripping them down to size, or tamping earth. He tried to leave no trace, and was never seen - he wanted no recognition, just to help. Though he had never spoken to a human, he saw in them the same desire to build and achieve that he saw in many of his clan mates, and so he formed an internal bond, an understanding of sorts, with the newcomers.
Gradually he grew bolder, and indeed began to speak to humans and walk among them, though he was cautioned by elders of many clans of Taguel to avoid labeling himself as such, and to always reveal as little as possible about his birth and his upbringing. And so he heeded their advice, and through some mysterious combination of fate, good fortune, and his readiness to work as a sailor, found himself on a ship sailing to Elibe. And so began a new adventure, a wild chapter in his life that he had not anticipated and had certainly not planned for. All he knew for certain was that there were people to help upon these new shores, and so he went forth to do what he could to improve their lives.
