The wind howls as the grass sways with it. walking through the plains of Sacae a young boy named Kouta who just a day ago, left his home in Kutolah. Kouta, who had been a novice for a year, decided to leave his home to travel the country with just an iron sword, a sack of almonds, a canteen of water, and the clothes on his back with the sole goal of becoming an able mercenary.
The sun started to fall, twilight approaches. "I've been walking all day," Kouta murmured. "I should find somewhere to rest." Surveying the land, he spots a tall green oak in the middle of the field. "What a lucky find!" He lays his sheath against the bole of the tree and grabs his sack of almonds which at this point is half full. "I need to find some town or something by the morrow's sundown." He uttered. glaring at the full moon he starts to feel himself slip away into sleep.
Not to far away are two men from a small bandit organization, one of them being a brigand, that goes by the name "Bush", possesses ruffled, brown hair, bearing a broad stature. He wears a brown tunic that has become torn in multiple places near the bottom and has a large axe tied to his back. The other, called "Inigo", a Myrmidon with long, blond hair. He looks much cleaner and holds a better posture then the brigand, wielding a long iron sword. "Are you sure we are going the right way?" Questioned Inigo, "I swear, if you are wrong I'll kill you and make the boss believe it was an accident!" "Even if you did kill me, I know you ain't have da guts to lie to the boss as if 'e wouldn' be able to find out." Bush mocked, "and besides, who's sayin' you would be able to kill me?" Bush attempts to avoid eye contact while the myrmadon gives him a stern look. "We are goin' the right way I'm sure of it!" They both continue their travel at night because at day they take turns keeping watch for passerbyers in hope to rob them of their valuables.
The next morning arises, Kouta woke up to see his bag of almonds poured out beside him, seemingly because he left them on his lap as he fell asleep. "I guess I fell asleep before I ate these last night." He thought as he scoops them up back into the bag, "well, better not put these to waste." He grabs his sheath and swings it around onto his shoulder, and starts to travel again while eating his nuts. Unaware that up ahead are the two bandits waiting patiently for a new victim to rob.

At a tent set up underneath a tree, the two bandits decide amongst themselves of who would be keeping first watch during the day.
"Rock! Paper! Scissors!"
Inigo and Bush shout in unison as they smacks their fists against their flat hands. The myrmidon flattens his hand as to symbolize paper, and Bush keeps his fist as it was as to play rock.
"No fair! You'd went slower then me and did your move aftah me!"
"All's fair in love and war."
"What war?!"
"Doesn't matter, now keep watch as I rest. Wake me up in a few hours and we will switch." Inigo climbed inside their tent while Bush stayed outside and started gnawing on an apple he had stashed away in his pocket."Who's goin' to be walkin' 'round here?" He murmurs, "There's nutin' here!" He sits down on the ground and holds his head up with his hands and stares across the plains of Sacae. The sun, covered by clouds, gives off a warm feeling while a light breeze occurred. A figure walks through the field. "Wait! What's that?" Bush stumbles around looking for his leather spyglass. He puts it against his eye and focused in on the figure. A smile grew on his face.
"'Ey! Wake up! I spotted someone and they are headin' our way!" He yelled at the tent,"you hearin' me? We got ourselves something to loot!" "What are you blabbering about?" Inigo rubbed his eyes while coming out of the tent. "There's someone headin' this way!" Bush points at the distant figure across the plain. "Let me see that!" Inigo quickly swipes the spyglass out of Bush's hand. He focused onto him spotting a small person with brown hair and a green tunic. The person is equipped with an iron sword. "Seems to be a kid." He confirmed. "Nice, this'll be easy!" The brigand laughed.
Walking straight north for 4 hours today, Kouta has ran out of almonds, and his canteen has depleted of water. "There has to be some village somewhere near!" He panted. He looks thoroughly around only to see fields and fields of grass. He fall on his hands and knees and rolls over on his back panting, "This is hopeless!" He grabs his canteen and holds it over his mouth, only a drop falls out and lands on his tongue. "I'll just rest for a bit." He closes his eyes and lays there for some time.

"what's the plan?"Bush asks. "We continue our lookout procedure but we keep our eye out for that kid, make sure we don't lose him." Inigo replies. "I'm going back to sleep." "Wait! Isn't it my turn?" "I said wake me up in a couple of hours, it's only been around 30 minutes." He climbs back into the tent and the Bush kept watch. After a quick rest, Kouta is revitalized and ready to continue. He gets up and takes a quick peek around."What's that?" He sees a silhouette of something that kind of looks like a village. "Ah ha! I found one! I found one!" He starts walking toward the "village".
A few hours pass."Hey! it's your turn!" Bush yells, "Wake up!" Inigo gets out of the tent signaling his associate that he is ready to switch. Bush quickly climbs into the tent as if he hasn't slept for weeks. Inigo paces around the camp for about ten minutes until he decided to check out the kid. He pulls out the spyglass and spots the boy. He notices only one thing, he changed direction, but not just any direction. He is heading straight for them! Inigo's face sparks in surprise. "Has he noticed us?" He ponders, "No he couldn't have, if he did he would be going the opposite way." Inigo shakes his head, "Oh well, that just makes it easier." He laughs.
As Kouta closes near, he starts to realize that his destination is not what he thought it was. "Is that a tent? It doesn't look like a town." He squints, trying to get a better look, "There's someone there, I can ask for directions!" He continues his approach towards the bandit's camp.
A few hours pass, Kouta reaches the bandit's camp. Bush and Inigo hide behind the tree waiting to catch him off guard. Kouta looks around the camp. "Hello? Is anyone here?" He hollers. "Yeah, there is." Bush replies as he comes out behind the tree brandishing his ax. Kouta's face became stunned as Inigo follows holding the hilt on his sheathed sword ready to attack. "Give us all ya got and maybe we'll let ya go." Bush demanded as he held his ax firmly between his two hands. "I don't have anything! All I had was a canteen of water and a bag of almonds, but I already ate those!" Kouta replied, "and if I gave you my sword, I would be defenseless. You could just take my life." "Well how 'bout I just take it from you anyways! You must be lyin', who would go through here without any supplies." Bush grew angry. "Now, now, why don't we just all calm down?" Inigo walks towards Kouta and points at him, "You! If you don't give us something that at least is worth a silver coin..." He gives him a stern look straight in his eye, "You will die."

"But I don't have anything!" Kouta trembles. "Well then I guess you are going to die." Inigo pulls his sword out and prepares to attack. "Wait!... I do have something in my possession." Kouta slowly reaches into his pocket and puts out his closed fist with the item he pulled out inside, "I knew you would come through." The myrmidon snickers, "Hand it over!" Kouta reels his arm back a little, "Here, take it." He throws the object in his hand which happened to be his empty bag that held his almonds. The bag flies into Inigo's face and Kouta runs the other way as fast he can. He looks back and sees the myrmidon run at him at lightning speed with sword in hand. Inigo catches up with him and trips him with the flat side of his sword.
"You thought you could run away?" Inigo laughed, "All you are doing is prolonging your death, if you just stayed still it would go quickly." Kouta got back on his feet and dusted off the dirt on his pants. He grips his sword with his left hand pulling it out of it's sheath. He grips it with both hands and Get's into an offensive battle stance, "I guess I have no choice but to fight." He has a serious expression however he can not keep himself from trembling.
"Bush..." Inigo gestures him forward, "You fight first, I don't want to dirty myself on a weakling like him." "All righ'..." Bush walks up to Kyota hastily and draws his ax swinging it around his hand, "This'll be fun!" "Don't get too carried away, we already are taking extra time to get to our destination without telling anyone. I don't want you to chop him so much where we can't find his belongings."
The shaky novice holds his sword tightly in between his hands. He raises his sword right in front of him, preparing to run at his opponent. He shifts his sword into a stabbing position and charges straight towards Bush. Bush dodges and trips him with his foot. As Kouta falls to the ground dropping his sword, Bush prepares a vertical strike to the ground at where he fell. As Bush thrusts the ax right where Kouta is at, Kouta barely rolls out of the way. Kicking dirt out of the ground, Kouta stumbles back up while quickly grabbing his sword. He stands back up in a defensive position expecting the brigand to approach... but he doesn't. Bush knows his safest option is to sit there and wait for Kouta to approach. Kouta, who feels pressured into the approach charges again, but this time he try's to predict his movement. Bush takes a fake step to the left, deceiving Kouta into thinking he was moving there. As Kouta flew to the left of Bush, Bush threw his elbow to Kouta's back, knocking him down. "Stop toying with him and finish it!" Inigo demands from a few meters behind him, "Didn't I say we are on a schedule?" Bush looks at Inigo and scratches the back of his neck, "Oh yeah, I forgot." As Bush looks back he sees Kouta plunging toward him aiming his sword at his face. Bush barely dodges with a scratch on his cheek.
"Grr... you'll pay for dis!" Bush growled. Blinded by anger, Bush charges at Kouta taking a huge swing as he approaches. Kouta reads this extremely predictable attack beforehand and moves out of the way. Exhausted, Kouta starts to realize he can't win this battle. Bush takes another approach. Kouta, who is too tired to dodge sits there and closes his eyes expecting it to be the end. But instead he hears a clang right in front of him. Opening his eyes, Kouta sees a male blond cavalier on horseback who holds a steel sword with an extended right arm in front of his face parrying with the brigand, he thrusts his sword forward throwing the brigand's ax back.

"You alright?" The cavalier helps Kouta. "Yeah, but what happened?" Kouta is in shock. "Who are ya!? Why'd ya have to interfere!?" Bush grows furious, "don't matter, I can take both you's on!" Bush yells as he charges towards the cavalier. The cavalier dodges and takes a swipe to Bushes back. "Aaargh!" Bush falls down from the pain but quickly gets back up. Bush continues to charge more fueled with anger. This time bush jumps upward swinging his ax down on the cavalier. The cavalier try's to parry with his sword, but Bush's momentum tears through his sword, knocking it out of his hand, sending it flying. Bush jumps back and laughs. "You can't defend you's self now!" The cavalier has a weary look and looks at Kouta's sword. "Throw that to me!" The cavalier demands. Kouta scurries around trying to find what he meant by that, he quickly realizes he was talking about the sword and throws it to him.
The cavalier reaches and catches it. "Thanks!" He looks back at Bush, "Thank you for waiting." Bush becomes surprised and angry, "Grr, who do ya think ya are?!" "My name is Derrick. I'm a guard from the Upala tribe, I was on patrol I was informed that there was two bandits heading over to our tribe." Bush's face becomes red, "But how? Da only person who knew was..." "your leader? Yes, we captured him and had him begging for his life, he quickly told us everything including that two bandits were coming to meet him." Bush is frozen with fear, "Wha... you have to be lyin'! There's know way the boss would sell us out!" "Stop talking and fight!" Derrick demands as he raises his sword. "Alright fine." Bush charges towards him swinging his ax. Derrick attempts to block it but only deflects half the blow, Bush's attack leaves a mark in Derrick's horse. The horse stands on it's hind legs in panic, neighing. Derrick falls off onto the ground. Bush jumps up high and falls down toward him. Derrick quickly grabs his sword and raises it up towards Bush as bush falls on top of it, impaling him.
Bush's ax falls out of his hand as Derrick pushes him off. Bush's face is white, "Inigo... help... me..." He falls dead. "That takes care of him." Derrick looks around, "Say, I was told there were two, where is the other one?" He asks Kouta, "I don't know, I just saw him a little bit ago." "Oh well, he probably fled." Derrick get back on his horse and pats it's rear, "Hop on." "What?" "You want to get to the village, right?" Kouta hops on, "How did you know?" "The other place that's closest to here is Kutohlah and I suspect you are from that direction since I've never seen you in Upala." They start traveling on horseback.
"I never got to say thanks." Kouta said, "So, Thank you." Derrick looked back at Kouta and looked ahead again, "Yeah." They continue in silence for a little while. "So how far until we get there?" Kouta asked, breaking the silence, "not too long." Derrick quickly replies. As their horse gallops forward Kouta begins to see the village, "I see it!" They soon reach the village.

Kouta, who has never left his own tribe, looks around, "It's not as big as I imagined." Derrick didn't hear him, "Alright, it's time for us to split off." Kouta gets off the horse, "But I don't know how to get around here." Derrick points at a building that is a little bit bigger then the rest, "That is an Inn." Then, he points at another building, "That's a shop." He looks at Kouta, "I'll be be taking off now." He leaves.
He started heading towards the shop, "I better get some food, I'm starved." While walking he sees a silver coin on the ground and picks it up. He takes a look at the coin and his eyes widen, "I forgot to pack my gold!" He panics. He flips the coin up high and catches it. "Hopefully this is enough for something good." He opens the door. As the door creaks he hears the shopkeeper welcome him, "Welcome, Welcome! What can I do for you today?" Kouta walks up to the counter as the shop keeper finishes up organizing some things on his shelves. Kouta looks around seeing stuff like apples, peanuts, rice, bread, and almonds. "What can I got for one silver?" Kouta asked. "Most of the things here, but that depends on how much you want." The shopkeeper replied. "How much for those almonds?" Kouta points at the almonds which were contained in sacks that looked as if each is one pound. "A half a silver a pound." Kouta makes his decision, "I want two." He hands his silver coin to the shopkeeper. The shop keeper gets on a ladder climbs up on it to grab two bags of almonds. He climbs back down and hands it to him. "Here you go." Kouta takes it from him, "Thank you." He leaves the building.
Kouta walks throughout the streets looking at the ground. "I don't believe I will be able to pay for the inn so I'll just sleep somewhere out on the border of the village." He continues walking until he spots a well. "Hey, I almost forgot I needed water before I go." He runs up to the well grabbing the rope that connects to the bucket at the bottom of the well. While he pulls it up he looks down into the well and sees something sparkling down at the bottom of the well. He drops the bucket back down right after filling his canteen. He fiddles with the rope trying to get the shiny object in the bucket for about ten minutes. In due time he catches the shiny thing in he bucket and brings it up. He discovers what he found was a gold coin! "I can pay for the inn now!" He starts running towards the inn but suddenly stops. "Well, I don't need to go to the inn. I could save this for something else." He stuffs it into his pocket and continues along wandering the streets.
Night falls and Kouta rests under a tree on the outskirts of the village. "When I wake up I should head out again." He looks around in all directions, "But which way?" He thinks to himself, "I guess I can go west, the same way I was going before. But for now I should get some sleep." He closes his eyes and rests. He wakes up the following morning and heads west.
