Somewhere on the North Western outskirts of Worde
Donny had asked her to investigate reports of monsters coming in from the western borders of Worde and she nearly jumped at the opportunity for it. Finally! She was going to do something fun! Well not that she didn't enjoy the endless hours engrossed in her book research.. but it was just that after that attack on Worde that killed some of their comrades she was itching to go back out and kick some monster butt. She needed some fresh research subjects for her thesis anyway. The corpses that were collected from the last expedition were burned to ash before she could get any useful information out of them. Not that she blamed the townsfolk for it. They did need to burn all the corpses to prevent them from reviving again. Now she needed to figure out why they were reviving, how, and how to stop it. She needed to find out all these important things in order to keep the living safe! And.. that was her ultimate goal. She wanted to learn more about these monsters to keep everyone safe. To translate her extremely complex notes into simple writing so that even the common man could understand the do's and don'ts of monsters. On how to prevent attacks. What to look out for.
But Donny wouldn't let her go alone. Which is understandable. As strong and talented as she was she was still just one person. One very squishy person who did not liked to be poked full of holes. Or worse become the very monster she was trying to learn from. And so she made a few flyers and spread them around Worde a few days prior to her departure. She had a few familiar faces answer her small call to arms as well as a new face. The group had traveled together to this tiny village in the middle of the western borders. And together they would soon depart into the fields and eradicate the un-dead menace.

After their magic training, Samantha felt a renewed bond with Mila. So when Mila had asked her to join her quest of monster research, she agreed without so much as a second guess. She knew that researching monsters was a passion of Mila, so she wanted to do whatever she could to help. Sam wasn't sure if it would be awkward to admit this or not, but Mila was probably the best friend that she ever had. Drei was up there as well, but there was some sort of special connection that she felt with Mila that she couldn't quite explain.
Besides Mila, however, Samantha didn't know any of the others on this mission. Due to this, she rarely spoke besides to Mila. It was partly due to her shy and reserved nature, but also because she didn't feel the need to speak just for the sake of speaking. Small talk was not something she was ever very good at. Sam had been polite upon meeting the others, but mostly just listened as they talked.
Upon arriving in the town, Sam's first order of business was to get a room at the inn for the night. It had become a habit of hers, making her sleeping arrangements the top of her priorities upon arriving in a town. Mila would be more than welcome to share the room again if she wished, though she may wish to have a room of her own. Dropping her stuff off in the room, Samantha made her way back down to the tavern section of the inn and ordered a cup of tea.

With a stretch and a yawn Vincent came to the tavern for meetings. It was beginning to feel like it had run its course. Everyone wanted to meet in the taverns, but for Mila, he would do it. He wondered why people could not just sleep in once in a while? Why did everything always have to start early and end late? He shrugged it off deciding he did it too and it was an unimportant detail.
Even more than having yet another job with Mila, today held an importance to him that could not be understated. It was his introduction to the LCO. In the back of his mind he cursed the fact that Ryu was correct in that he could not stay out of the conflicts but more than that... it was his opportunity to clear, or at least redeem his name in Lycia after the Black Feather incident.
He looked upon the bandages on his left hand, the wound had still not fully healed. In fact his gauntlet was off which made things even harder for him. He shut his eyes briefly before entering the boisterous and noisy establishment. As the group set about their own preparations Vincent had one thing in mind; a good glass of Cider.
Drink in hand he sat at a table big enough to invite the whole crew. He sat off from the blue haired mage girl, she seemed rather, cautious, was it of all of them beyond Mila. It would be best not to impose his person on her before Mila joined them he thought. With a long drink he slammed the mug down and eyed the mage. "So, how long have you been fighting monsters?"

At the inn Mila was in her room scribbling away at her books. She was about 80℅ of the way to looking presentable when an idea struck her. She was busy comparing the data she received from the locals to that of her books. The descriptions of the people here matched the description of the monsters known as revenants. And from the looks of it there was an advanced version known as an entombed. These undead were the fleshier cousins of wights and bonewalkers. Her research details that the revenants and entombed often had better defenses than that of their bony cousins. They were also capable of welding higher class weapons and armor then the average monster. Reminders no remnants of their former lives.. or perhaps an influence of a new one. Nether magic was clever in the ways it could manipulate the minds of the living.. perhaps it did the same to the dead. Mila hoped that the combined magics of her, Sam's, and Phoenix Heart, would be enough to put these monsters down quickly. She didn't want anyone being out there longer than they had too.
The sage sighed and put away her things. She finished dressing then descended down the staircase towards the bottom half of the inn. She walked towards the main area and saw her friends sitting down at a table. The warmth of the fireplace illuminating their backsides. She approached and took a seat. Her hair was brushed down but still loose. From her pocket she pulled her hair clip. She ran her hands through her hair and pulled it up to its signature ponytail and clipped it firm. A few shakes of her head let her know it was in perfect form.
“Alright then. So are we all here?”

The waitress brought a cup of tea over to Samantha, who gave her a small smile before taking a sip. Ah, there were few things better than a good cup of tea. She set her cup down and turned her attention to the book that she had brought down with her. The blue haired girl wasn't sure when the others would show up, so she had decided to get some reading done in the meanwhile. Before long, she was lost within it's pages, so much so that she didn't even notice one of their group had joined her. It took her a second before she realized that the words were directed at her.
Looking up from her book, she saw the man seated nearby. Vincent, she believed his name was. She wasn't sure if she had spoken more than five words to the man before now. "I've never actually fought a monster before. People, yes, but never a monster. It should be an interesting experience." Sam hadn't actually given it much though until now. Clearly, there would be different factors at play, but the end outcome was still the same. Kill your enemy before they kill you, preferable without taking much harm yourself. Monster hunting wasn't something she necessarily cared for, but if Mila needed help with it, she would be more than happy to do so how ever she could.
As if on cue, Mila appeared and a smile formed on Sam's face. "I believe so, Mila." Huh, Mila's hair looked so nice. Should she do something with hers? She had been wearing it down since she decided to stop her ornate style, which she didn't regret. But for monster hunting, would something like a ponytail be better? She'd have to ask Mila later.

The sage nodded towards her friends and thought of the next thing to say. To be honest she wasn't quite sure what she was going to be leading them into. She knew undead were involved but she had no real knowledge of numbers. Just pieces of numbers that the locals had told her. And considering that human memory was sometimes faulty, especially in panicky situations like a monster attack, her numbers ranged from a reasonable five to five hundred. But she at least knew the area. The monsters tended to spawn on the farmlands on the edge of the territory. They usually made their way into town at night which forced a curfew for those in the village.
The guards, which consisted of mostly the oldest sons of the villagers, had gotten very good at signaling when the monsters arrived. They had a preference for nights of the full or new moon. If Mila had more time she could probably sit and research why that is. She had a few theories floating around in her head already. She suspected that the monsters had some sort of base of operations somewhere out in the far reaches of the farmer's lands. Someplace that they returned too. They didn't just ravage and move on like so many of the others do. This meant that they must be reporting to someone or something higher than them. Perhaps a bigger boss monster or a person who's managed to control them. They would need to investigate that base if this job was to be fully completed.
"Alright. So this is what we know. This town's got an undead problem. They spawn from the western edge of the farmlands on the outskirts of town and move into the village at night. Numbers according to reports range anywhere from five to a hundred. And considering that this village is not a charred crisp on the ground.. I'm estimating those numbers to be less than twenty." She spoke out loud to the group.
"These undead are mostly revertants. Which is the undead variety that has more flesh than bone. They are kinda susceptible to magic because well.. flesh burns. But not always." She shrugged.
"They go back to a place during the day. A den of some sort or a base. We need to eradicate the monsters and the base too. And who or whatever is controlling them." She looked up at her group.
"And that's all the information I've got. I really want to catch who or what's controlling them.. but the safety of the village and it's inhabitants are my main concern. So.. uh.. that's it. I am open to ideas."

"If you are going up against the undead then you should either use the power of flames or holy", shouted a voice from outside of the room. On key a young maiden clad in a white priest outfit walked into the room. He hair was as pink as a cherry blossom and stood straight up like the tree. Her skin was kissed by the sun and her eyes a sky blue. The young maiden had a mischievous smile on her face that screamed of danger. Her knee high pants were marked by old soot stains and her long leather boots were partially charred on there sides. On her hip sat a crimson tome held in place by a leather harness. With a snap of her finger flames erupted from her palm and began to dance in the air.
"Allow me to introduce myself, I am Bee", she spoke. As the maiden talked the flames danced in the air and took shape. They formed into letters written in the modern text spelling out her name for all to see. "B E E, Bee, just like the little animal, but without the stinging." The maiden stopped for a moment to simply look around her surroundings. She was half expecting to see don and the big guy here, but alas they were no where to be found. Still that did not trouble her. She was sure she would run into them another time. Fate always had a way of bringing people back together.
"It has been a long time Mila. We have not talked since that one mission a while back. How have you been holding up? I saw a couple of your posers around and I figured you could use the help." Bee snapped her fingers and the flames that had formed her name combined together to form a single ball of flames. The ball began to spin and rotate around itself giving it a dazzling look. "If you need fire power, then I am your girl", spoke Bee as she crushed closed her hand over the fire ball. The flames immediately burned out leaving nothing more than black smoke and a young maiden who thought herself dazzling.
"So what is the stitch on the walking fire wood", spoke Bee as she grabbed a chair turned it around the wrong way and sat down in it. her eyes focused on Mila and the others.

His feet slipped from the spurs, and his long left leg swung over the head of his massive horse, before both the heels of his boots dug up mud beneath him as he dropped from the saddle. With his left hand, the former squire took his helm from his head, his lime hair falling out and flopping more to the left side of his head. Cen needed a haircut. The Cornwellian ran his fingers through his locks, making sure to keep it from his eyes. He made way towards the tavern he'd been instructed to find, as eyes followed him. A tall man in full Cavalry armor, with a shock of odd colored hair and a friendly face walked through a town plagued by monsters of the black night. He was a strange sight.
With a soft smile and a kind word, he was told where the tavern was nestled, and hastened to find it. Upon entering a few eyes turned to him, but they were not spying him in anger, only curiosity. Scanning the room, he finally saw her, a woman with blue-green hair, who was about people with appearances that leaned towards their being people of travel. That must have been her, there was no one else he could see that looked like they could bend the arcane.
He made his way towards them, but kept quiet, as the woman of spells spoke, and a young girl proved that she could also twist fire. When there finally seemed to be a moment for him to interject, he began, addressing the woman who appeared in charge. "Pardon me, ma'am. Ah'm Cen, I was sent to find a Wizard named Mila. Forgive me if I'm wrong but is that you?" He gave a broad smile, to show that if he was mistaken, somehow, he was not one to grow cross.

Samantha stayed politely quiet as Mila spoke, taking in all that she was saying. What the blue haired mage had said before was true, she had never fought monsters of this type before. Because of this, she listened closely as Mila described the foes they would be facing. Of course, she had read about such monstrosities before, but book knowledge came second to first hand experience, which Mila had. In a perfect world you could combine the two, but when one was unsure, Sam always tended to lean towards the real world experience.
Before the girl had a chance to open her mouth again, two more people approached the group, both looking for Mila. The first was another girl, who seemed to be a mage who specialized with fire and appeared to know Mila in some way. The other was a green haired man who appeared to be some sort of soldier. His armor seemed to be of one who fought on horseback, but armor wasn't Samantha's specialty so she could be incorrect. As this was Mila's mission, Sam said waited again quietly for Mila to greet them. Not that she would have stepped up to welcome them, anyways. Staying quiet was much more her speed.
Eventually, however, Sam did begin to speak in her soft voice. Mila had asked for any ideas and one had come to her. "We could station ourselves around the edge of the village at nightfall, that way we can spot them for whichever direction they come from. Whoever spots them first calls to the others. Then, at sunrise, we follow them back to their den. It would be logical for who or whatever is controlling them to be stationed there."

Mila was a tad bit distracted, she placed an order for some water for her tea. She felt something nearby. The call of magic someone near her was channeling the power of fire. Mila turned her head to see who it was. Ah the little fire starter. With the square hair. Bee did a fine job at introducing herself to the rest of the table. It seemed that the pink haired mage had gotten a better grasp at the finer arts of fire magic as time went on. If she recalled right Bee's fire went out of control and threatened to burn down a forest and village. She remembered how they had to combine their magic together to create a second controlled fire to choke out the other one.
"It's nice to see you Bee." Mila nodded. Then turned to the waitress who had returned with her hot water. Mila put in one of her tea bags and let it sit for a moment. Another man came to the table. A knight with pea colored hair. Mila smiled and waved softly at the newcomer.
"Yes sir, I am Mila. It's nice to meet you. Please have a seat." She offered the man one of the various other empty chairs. Well, this was certainly a fine edition to her group. An extra magi and an extra physical unit. By the looks of it this man was a cavalier. At least that's what she thought. The man's armor was a bit lighter than that of some of the other foot soldier's she's met. Those who had very heavy and bulky armor. They could withstand blows from weapons but would be roasted alive by magic. Part of her shivered at that thought. Sam had decided to speak up. And she offered a decent plan. The mage nodded at her plan.
"I think that's a good idea. We might be able to recruit some of the town watch to help bolster our numbers."

Bee listen carefully as they all began to lay out a plan. It seemed like they were going to go after whoever or whatever was sending the monsters. It was a fine idea, but Bee had to wonder if there was a point. From her experience monsters were mindless beast that roamed around with no real directive. They attacked everything that came near them. She doubted that there was some kind of controlling hive mind going on. Well to be honest she preyed that there was not. Bee was no fool. She could see what was going on in the village and the reports of monsters attacking at the same time made it worse. However Bee did not like the idea that monsters were all working together like a giant Bee hive. The very thought chilled her to her bones and she was a fire mage.
"So the plan is simply to wait around till they attack and then follow them back home. I don't understand why we simply don't follow there trail at night and attack there forces in the morning. I mean they are mindless monsters right. They probably don't even hide there tracks. Just follow the marks and we can find the home. That way we can set the entire thing on fire from the outside and pick them all off as they retreat from there den. It should be a lot easier than having to defend this village. Even more so if the beast had been probing the place for weaknesses. Multiple attacks at the same time usually means a test of the guard. I would not be surprised if the creatures attacked in force tonight and though a weak point in the cities defenses no less. Well that only sands if the creatures have some kind of smart leader. A normal beast would not be so smart."

"Right, well, it's nice to meet you all. I'm Cen." Giving as polite a cough as he could manage into his gloved fist, Cen hurried to the seat which was offered, and quickly slid his large form into it without making protest. Chairs were always so low to the ground, ones like this hurt his knees every time he had to sink into them. It's as if one day all the carpenters who worked with chairs got together in a big conference, bring your own chair presumably, and decided they'd attempt to inconvenience the people who had the audacity to keep growing taller as the years went by. Or most people just weren't as big as he was, and that was fine, and he shouldn't be angry with people for not thinking to accommodate him, a stranger.
As the women of robes went on, the Cornwellian listened. His experience with husks and skeletons was limited, but he had it. From what he'd seen they were a shambling mess, and they could be put down with magic or steel. Fighting them wasn't like fighting men. They were poor unfortunate men, brought back from the grave by some dark force, turned into something inhuman. He didn't take pleasure from their disposable, but something about putting the risen back down made him feel he was doing what was right.
Finally, he decided to offer input, "Ah'm sorry, I hope it's okay for me to interject. My main concern is the safety of the people of this village. If you all leave in the night, that's just fine, but I'll be right here. The monsters come at once? Then sentries are a good plan, but we should make sure someone can hurry to protect our flank on another side if somehow we're caught by surprise.

A small smile appeared on Samantha's face when Mila approve of her idea. She viewed Mila as one of her closest friends, and greatly respected her opinion. So for Mila to agree with an idea of hers meant a lot to her. What she didn't like, however, was this new mage seemingly ignoring the safety of the town to attempt to ambush the monsters in the morning as they returned home. Wasn't a big part of this to help keep this village safe? Of course, Mila wished to study these monsters and get a better idea of what they were really up against as well, but the safety of these people couldn't be overlooked.
Thankfully, the soldier spoke up before she could. Cen, had he said his name was? He stated that his main concern that the safety of the people here and Sam agreed. They couldn't just abandon this town to be attacked. Sure, the town clearly had some guards as it was still standing, but they would stand a better chance if they had their little group to help them out. Samantha just kept thinking what it would be like if her town was under attack and those who showed up to help them left before the creatures attacked. It was a sobering thought, and not something she wished to do.
That being said, this was Mila's mission. Whatever she agreed to do in the end, Sam would follow. Both sides had been presented, so the girl stayed quiet and waited to see what Mila's opinions on everything was.

As Samantha spoke of her inexperience there was a twinge of tightness in the mercenary's face. Almost like a disapproving look or perhaps concern. Monsters were a sore subject to the young man as every time he encountered the creatures of shadow and death he was drawn near death every time. Be it giant spiders, drowning in the mire, or seeing friends possessed of the very thing that made them. He could not escape them even in his most feverish of dreams as he recalled the red man in the arena.
"Well, here's to hoping you learn quickly. Be sure to let us take the brunt of it until you've seen fully what these things can do." He held a stern face as he said this previous experience practically playing back in his eyes, only broken by the ever delightful presence of Mila. His entire demeanor shifted back into his playful and cheery manner at the site of her.
"Ever the pleasure to work together!" As he listened to her explanation of their circumstance he stared intently. Monsters with a base of operation? He had seen them guard a bridge and assail convoys but he never thought of them as having a base before. The idea was admittedly bothersome. "I'd be lying if I told you I had not seen monsters act intelligently, or at least craftily before but you suggest they are actually organized around a central figure or locale?" It made perfect sense to him and after seeing Hargus and the living shadow creatures he had already bore the theory himself. It was just good to hear others, let alone a proper researcher, share and express the same belief as himself.
Aside from this one idea Vin had elected to listen to the other ideas so he could understand where they all stood before adding in his piece about the mission. "They reported revenants and yes holy magic works wonder," he tapped his sword for emphasis, "But we don't know everything about them. I have fought a bonewalker that was like living nether and it nearly killed me even with divine magic on my side. Them having a base is merely a theory as of now. If we follow them back to whatever festering cesspool they rise from we could end up in way over our heads depending on what we find. "It is the mission but may I suggest we wait until daybreak to assault them on their turf after we have seen their capabilities?" Be it caution or fear that prompted him he had no desire to drown in the mire ever again.
He then looked to Bee, not in a scolding manner but simply to emphasize due caution. "If there is a center to the monsters then trust me when I say there is an intelligent force guiding them. Be it the nether itself or... some other monster they can coordinate well enough. Wordlessly even and that makes them all the more dangerous."

Mila took a moment to listen to everyone's suggestions. Vincent and Cen had a point. The safety of the village and the villagers comes first. As much as she wanted to dive head first into the unknown, she knew that to be a bad idea. Plus she had to think of the safety of the other members of her party. She knew Bee and Vincent can hold their own in a fight. But, Sam wasn't quite so combat ready at least that's what she thought. Then again she only saw her fight once. And then there was the new guy Cen. She had no idea what his fighting style was.
"I think wandering around in the dark towards the enemy base might be akin to suicide. And as far as I know these monsters haven't attacked anywhere else except one point in the village. Specifically the western gate. I also value the plan that would save the most lives. So.. I say we meet them at the gate. Kill off as many as we can while defending the village. And then follow the survivors back to their nest during the day." She paused for a bit to sip at her tea.
"The village sentries would be useful as they have experience in tracking the movements of the monsters. They made an alarm system to warn the guard and have the villagers go into hiding." She did poke her nose into the defenses of the village. After all they had to be doing something right since they were still standing.
"I've got a Gaea tome.. so I could probably whip up a few spike walls as an added precaution. Maybe some trenches or pit falls. Depends on how much time I have and what energy I can expend. The town's got an apothecary that can whip up a few wards to keep things out for a bit. I'm wondering.. if we can find a way to funnel them and pick them off as the come. Or probably lure em with a few clay dummies.." She had her hand cupped to her chin and was just thinking of ways to help defend the village.
