"Why are you crying"
Wei's hand stretched out toward a young girl as she cried over a strangely discolored man. It was clear to Wei that whatever it was the thing was dead. It was clearly not human, but the young girl whelped for it anyway. Wei stretched out his arms to reach for the girl, but before he could touch her brilliant white wings erupted from her back. With one flap she was gone and so was Wei's dream.
"Crap", shouted Wei as he fell out of Bed. The young brigand was staying in a inn room with a nice view of the town main street. Light shinned in through the window flooding the room with a brilliant radiance. The inn he was staying in was not cheap, but at the same time it was not completely fancy. It was a nice medium, just like Wei liked it. He had spent the last few days on the run. He had made some trouble for himself in Worde. He ended up having to get out of dodge very quickly. Lucky for him they did not know to much about him and communications in Lycia have been difficult. He would most definitely need to avoid that village, but he should be fine.
"So this is the legendary Solarecia", spoke Wei as he leaned on the window seal. The smell of fresh sunflowers filled his nose as the streets below shined like the sun. Stands barrels and window seals were filled with the radiant flower. The white marble pillars and white stone streets. A fountain separated the roads in the center and delivered water to the citizens. Rumor has it that the water comes from the mountains and is transported to the fountain through a underground tunnel. They say the tunnel leads all the way to the mountains. that story however is a lie. There is a tunnel and a lake of water, but it is not as far as the mountains. Still it is a amazing feat to have running water. Most villages depend on rivers or wells.
"I guess that is why this city is so special", spoke Wei."
"Here me citizens!"
"Wei turned his head to the right to see a man dressed in all white. He had blonde hair that ran all the way down to his lower back, and bright blue eyes that shinned like the sea. His skin was as pale as the moon and his face was delegate as glass. The only way that Wei knew that he was not a she was due to his clothing. The robes were clearly that of a father and not a sister.
"Be warned citizens of paradise. A great evil shall descend upon you. A beast weilding a bolt of lightning, dogs from hell itself, and the dead will walk the earth."

Talus sighed as he watched the priest speak. He had only taken this job because of how much the priest was willing to pay him to exterminate the monsters. He figured that now would be a good time to step in if they didn't want to be viewed as crazies. At least the axe-girl seemed okay. Relatively. Anyone that buff with an axe was a force to be reckoned with in his opinion.
So he was going to start looking good in front of her, lest that axe be swung in a way that didn't favor him.
So, he was going to mention the cost per head first, then say what they were hunting for. Worked faster than the other way around (and got more people). "Alright, listen up. Anyone who helps us with this gets about, say 500 gold. There's some monsters gathering outside of town, and the priest here wants them exterminated swiftly and effectively. Any takers? Raise your hands where I can see them. We'LL be taking about four others."he asked as he began to survey the crowd for hands.
Which wasn't really hard as after the bit on monsters, most of them withdrew their hands. He also decided not to mention the priest had promised a free burial to anyone who died doing this. No need to kill their spirits too.
Unfortunately, there were only 3 others who volunteered to help. A girl with black hair and a bow who didn't look too bad, a rugged man with brown hair wielding a sword, and another rather nice-looking redheaded girl who was twirling a dagger and gave him a wink that made his hands unconciously pat his pockets to check that his wallet was still with him.
Something from his past of being deemed an easy mark made him decide that he would have to keep an eye on her all the time... or at least, his valuables.
"Right then. Only three of you. Anyone who changes their mind, we'LL be at the Inn in the meantime. As for you three, get ready to meet outside the town gates by nightfall. That's all." He said. He sighed as he walked into the inn with the priest, making arrangements. Personally, he would have liked another healer, or at least a bishop, someone who would be a bit more useful than a warrior, a thief, and a archer.
He decided to (read: ordered to) do a bit of digging on them since there was quite a bit of time in the day to spend while the priest went sightseeing with his bodyguard.
So after a bit of digging, he was able to find out who they were.
The redhead was a former bandit named Scarlet, who had quit after a dispute between her and the head of her former gang. He wasn't sure how she quit, but something told him it involved quite a bit of bloodshed. "All the more reason to avoid her as much as possible..." He thought.
The black-haired girl was named Shauna, who, much to his surprise, was actually from Eturia and on a journey herself. Frabkly, if it weren't for the fact that he was raised to put buisness before pleasure most of the time, he'd be chatting it up with her right now.
The brown-haired warrior was a man named Vol, who was a Sacean Swordsman.
He sighed as he looked over the information he had gathered. He hoped somebody would show up at the Inn when he got back looking for the job.
Otherwise, that would be a fair bit off his bonus.

"Talus you fool, I could have recruited them for free", moaned the priest as he walked toward the inn. Bones, his body guard and muscle bound female lackey walked beside him groaning about losses in a bonus. During this entire ordeal Wei simply sat in the window looking out at everything that was going on. Five hundred gold was a lot of money, and money Wei could use, however he had to wonder if the priest could afford the amount. The acolyte suggested the amount, not the man paying. Still the church usually paid there debts, and if they could not concern citizens usually did so in there stead. So Wei figured they would be good for it. Grabbing his brave axe off the floor and placing on his thick armored coat Wei headed down stairs. "I want to join tour little expedition", spoke a dark skin women with crimson hair tied into twin pig tails. She had radiant green eyes. She had on quality plate armor, the kind you would expect on a skilled knight with some wealth, however it was only the breastplate. Her legs were covered in tan slacks that were stuffed into steel toe and bottom boots. In that regard she reminded Wei of a soldier, but the enchanted longsword swaying on her hilt told him otherwise. If he had to guess she was probably a mercenary, and she was quite beautiful. Wei was a bit smitten. "Hey kid can you even use that thing on your hip", spoke the pink hair Bones as she stared into the maidens green eyes. The very action ticked Wei off. How dare she question her ability simply because of her age! Wei was sure that there were other emotions involved in his anger, aka puberty, but he also experienced being talked down to because he was young. "Hey don't underestimate someone based on there age", spoke Wei as he stepped down into the main lobby. "That was my line", spoke the maiden with confusion as Wei walked up. She gave him the once over and realized that he was no mercenary. His armor was not up to scale and he used a axe. If she had to guess he was either a fighter or a brigand. Considering his lack of posture and the way he carried himself he was probably self taught. "Let me guess you hav..." "Welcome aboard", spoke the priest suddenly cutting Bones off. "The more the merrier." "But ..." "Now now Bones, money is not as important as you think it is. Having a lot of coin is meaningless if your dead." The man gave bones a serious look. She only responed with a scowl. "Fine fine, welcome aboard. Give me your names and your training." "Why do we need to give you our training information?" Asked the maiden as a scowl crossed he face. "Because she thinks we are green horns", Spoke Wei as he let off a sigh. He was use to this. "The name is Wei..." "Wei", spoke Bones with surprise. "Yeah wei", spoke the brigand confused and a bit scared. Was she from Worde? "Sorry about that", spoke Bones suddenly. I have a friend named wei. Thought it was a bit weird to find someone else with such a strange name." "Anyway," spoke Wei ignoring the insult. "I am a self taught mercenary freelance. I have fought three battles against the undead hordes and several missions against human opponents." "So you are self taught then", spoke Bones cutting through the fluff. "What about you girly?" "First off my nam,e is Xeldine", spoke the maiden. "Second I was trained by the legendary monster slayer Orcleous himself ...". Before she could continue Bones cut her off. "Never heard of him."

"Hey, hey, hey. You saw how few people we could gather when we asked. And that was when I told them the reward, then about the monsters. And forgive me for saying this, but the way you announced yourself made you sound like a crazed prophet, which might have scared off quite a few people. Besides, I did some digging on the ones we did get. Not a bad bunch. I think one of them might even be a swordsmaster, and those don't come cheap, even for 500 gold." he said.
That was when he saw the beauty in red armor. And at that moment, Talus was sorely tempted to hit on her. There was another guy too, and they both started to argue. Bones seemed to have confused the boy for someone else as well.
The priest and the bodyguard seemed to have everything sorted out though. The boy's name was Wei, and the girl was named Xeldine. The girl was apparently a monster-slayer, which was an especially nice thing to have here. The name Orcelous, though, rang a bell in his head. "Orcelous... why does that name sounder familliar? Xeldine, could you describe this Orcelous? I think I mgiht know who you're talking about." he said. Even if he was wrong, at least it would kind of make him look good to her... purely because a monster-slayer would be useful, and he didn't want her to leave and they lose a precious asset. Totally not because he was going to try and flirt with her later, maybe. If they survived this, that is.

Before Xeldine could complain the mage, who Wei thought was a acolyte, asked the maiden question. The fact that he might know who Orcleous was sparked something in her eye. "Oh I see, you probably meet the guy and forgot his name. It is a bit wired after all. Lets see", she chuckled as she brought her index finger up to her moth. The maiden had to pull together all of her memories of the man to give a accurate description. "Well first off he is not that tall. He is intimidating due to his muscle mass, but he stands only five feet and nine inches. Most of the time he is wearing this bright crimson breastplate it is the same color as mine. Anyway he gas long hair which he usually keeps straight and slit back. However he has been wearing it puffy of late. His skin is three shades darker tan mine and he carries around a gigantic club."
"A club", spoke Wei in confusion. "Are we talking about a monster hunter or a cave man."
"Watch it red head", spat Xeldine.
"Did this club happen to be five sided and with runes limning each side", spoke the priest. The man was suddenly drawn into the conversation.
"Yeah that describes Xigshaw perfectly", spoke Xeldine with glee.
"Xigshaw", spoke Bones with disbelief. She had heard of the weapon before."
"What kind of name is Xigshaw", scuffed Wei
"The kind of name that will squash you flat", growled Xeldine.
"That is its short name", murmured the priest as he rubbed his chin. " The Holy Axe of Faresh, is its true name. A powerful relic from the days Eturia was shrouded in darkness and the Whith hunts consumed the land."
"Oh, so you know all about that then."
"Indeed I do miss Xeldine, and I also know that it was stolen."

This was really starting to sound familliar. Some shred of memory in his mind began to surface, and though he mentally tugged at it as hard as he could, it wouldn't come loose. So lost in thought was he, he wasn't really paying attention.
It took took the mention of the club and Xigshaw before he remembered it. "THAT'S IT! Sorry to startle you, but I remember now. I met him while I was passing through some mountains. We were dealing with some bandits that wre nearby. Frankly, he probably could've torn through all of them. He was like a monster himself out there. He trained you? Then welcome aboard." he saI'd suddenly.
It was then that something else clicked in his mind. Specifically, the rest of the conversation. "Ohhh....crap." he thought. This wasn't good. "Er... I could have been mistaken though. How long ago was it stolen...?" he said nervously. He was starting to get a bad feeling about this. He cursed his lack of mental restraint, and vowed to be as safely vague he could be to everybody but Xeldine at this point if they asked about this particular topic any further.
At this point, he also began thinking of any excuse to change the topic to soemthing else, and keep it there. Or something. Looking out the window, he finally got an idea. "Umm... can we save this conversation for later? It's almost dusk, so we should be heading to the town gates, because that's where I told the others to meet at." He said, pointing outside to the late afternoon sky. All the while, he was thanking his god(s) mentally for such a lucky break.

"He is right save it", spoke Bones as she got up from the table and grabbed her axe. The maiden did not even wait for the priest protest. They were getting ready to walk straight into hell, there was no time for foolish idel chatter.
"Hold on a second", spoke the priest.
"Are you ca..", started Xeldine , but she was stopped by Wei.
"Think of the money women and not your pride."
"Eww, who told you, you could touch me?" Wei ignored her and kept walking. "Hey stop iognoring me!"
"Stop ignoring me", shouted the priest. He really wanted to know more about this Orcleous guy. It seemed that he was the one who stole the artifact. This girl had a connection to him. Maybe she could lead him to him, or give some valuable information about him. Xeldine however was starting to get tired of Wei. It was easy to get on her bad side and he was on the path. Wei on the other hand had placed his hormones back in place. It was clear to him from the moment she started to talk about Orcleous there was some strong emotions involved. As a result he deduced that he did not stand a chance and opted to focus on what he did best, killing monsters.
As the group prepared themselves to face off against the horrors the beast had gathered. Monsters usually worked with there own species. However this band of beast was lead by a wright. The Wright had assembled a pack of creatures under its command. The first was a bale, a spider bigger than a horse. Its claws were as sharp as razors and is fangs doused in venom. He had three Mauthe Doog which he kept close and on chains. Two Gargoyle leutents. Each one had there own unique spears. Under them were three bonewalkers each and ten undead. It was a formidable group. The Wright however had its own plans to make it even better. The citizens of Solarecia would be added to its horde. The creature marched its band toward the city proper.

Talus was more than eager for an excuse to get to it. At the gate, he met up with the three others, and made some quick introductions between them. He observed the mixed group. "Huh. A mixed group of monsters, led by a Wright. Interesting. Usually, most group alliances between different monsters tend to end badly, from what i've read. That Wright is probably the toughest of the bunch. Okay. So here's the plan. Pay attention, because we've got one shot at this. We fail, and we're gonna be dead." he said in a low whisper. "Alright. Here's the deal: Vol, Xeldine, Wei, and Bones, you're the main force. Get their attention. Shauna and the Priest will blast them while their backs are turned. Scarlet, I want a quick word with you, as we'LL also be flanking them seperately. Got it? Now let's do this." he said before pulling Scarlet aside.
"Listen: I know you won't run for now, but don't try and run off with any loot you find. I'LL have Bones frisk you on suspicion of that you might have stolen something from the priest in the thick of battle. So don't try any funny buisness, lest you lose half your take. And don't get me started on what she might do if you actually did take something from the priest... well, I'm sure you can imagine the consequences. Got it?" he said to her, and she nodded.
"Right then. Let's get started. Warriors, now!" he said in a low whisper. The battle would now begin.

As the group left the gate there was a lot of talk and gossip. Wei however was not paying attention to none of it. He had far better things to do than worry about who is going to steal from who and who knows a thief. Ever since this morning that dream had been bothering Wei. It was almost as if he could hear the girl crying in his ear. To make things worse the sound was getting louder. All that came to a sudden halt when Bones ordered everyone to shut up. She had picked up on something Wei had missed, the smell of the dead. The group had taken up a good vantage point from a brush near a hill. The creatures were moving in the shadow of the hill in a effort to get as close to the wall as possible before they struck, darn Wraith.
Speaking of the monster it was the most terrifying thing Wei had ever seen. The bone walker was covered in thick armor Wei jad ever seen not to mention the flying stone men around it. Wei wondered if they even stood a chance. The mage tried to lay out a plan, but before the rest of them could move Xeldine suddenly freaked out."
"sp... SPIDER!!!!!!", shouted the maiden suddenly giving away the groups position. Her entire body was shaking as horrible memories flashed back to her. She remembered how one of those beast killed her entire family. The days she spent hiding in the overturned carriage praying the creature never found her. Then she remembered Orcleous the hero who pulled her to safety. Courage shot through her blood and she drew out his gigt to her. "Luxcaliber", she shouted as she swung her magical blade of light. A single beam of light rushed from the blade like a rampaging river. The light missed the spider, but turned one of the undead to dust.
"For my mother", shouted Xeldine as she rushed in.
Everyone was stunned except Wei. the brigand stared on with complete amusement. Without skipping a beat Wei gave a loud roar and charged in, stratagem be dead

Talus mentally cursed something fiercr. So much for plan A. He was going to go for plan B, except at that point, Xeldine pulled out a magic sword, and started killing stuff. Then Wei did too. "... oh forget it. Time for Plan C." he muttered quietly. Flames weren't his thing, but.. "You know... flesh burns easily! Especially rotten flesh! Get ready to die twice, you crawling corpses!" He yelled, setting several undead ablaze.
Meanwhile, Vol was surrounded by several undead. "I am one with the blade, and the blade is me." he said, before effortlessly slicing one undead in two, his silver sword gleaming in the light. Scarlet was with Shauna, dealing with the dogs. Both of them were using silver in their weapons as well. The priest and Bones were fine as well, dealing with the bonewalkers.
Which is why Talus was the one having the most trouble: he hadn't had a single bit of silver, and didn't know how to use fire nearly as well as thunder and wind. Wind wouldn't work here. And thunder would be mostly useless. Before he could ponder it any further, a spear soared by him, missing him by a hair.
"Huuuuuuman.... you must die." said the gargoyle that now had its attention on him.
"Oh, come on!" he exclaimed in a terrified whisper. The skin was stone, so thunder and fire would be innefective with his current level of magic. And wind wasn't really going to do much here either. In other words, he was in some deep trouble. "Um... somebody, please help me...!" He said, all bravery crumbling in the face of something that wasn't nearly as scary as something in children's tales... but scarier! So he screamed in a voice that sounded like a little girl's as he started to fire blindly in every which way, various fire, thunder, and elec spells flying everywhere.

Serves him right thought Wei as he charged the undead. Xeldine had freaked out because of her past, Wei on the other hand charged simply to bother the other guy. Wei was never one to simply take orders. He had to have some respect for you first. Respect was never given only earned. Individuals would have to have some great past deed or to have done something in his presence. The brat, who was probably around his age or older to be honest, had done neither. From Wei's point of view he was just some guy around the priest who decided to bark out orders, Wei did not like it. He was disrespectful and a hot shot, plus he could gain some bonus points with Xeldine. That was also a good thing.
"Those idiots are going to get themselves killed", spoke Bones. "Leave the flying ones to me. The rest of you try to control the horde, and avoid the Wright! That thing will chew you up and spit you out."
As Xeldine reached the undead her focus fell on the Bale. She had to kill it, she needed to kill it. If she did not the creature would hunt her for the rest of her life. Her lightbrand clashed with a bonewalkers blade as iyt stepped up to engage her.
"Damn it! Out of my way!"
suddenly and before Xwldine could react a undead lunged forward toward her right flank. Its claws were poised to strike the weak point in her armor. However a swift axe strike battered back the beast assault as wei rushed in with his brave axe. The first strike defended the maiden. Wei's axe deflected the claws mid air as he rushed in to strike with his axe. The blade of the axe sliced into the flesh knoking the creature off balance.
"Hey watch yourself", shouted Wei to the maiden as the bale moved in.
"Those two are going to get themselves killed", spoke Bones as she knocked back a bonewalker's blade with her tomahawk. A swift puch knoked the creature into a daze giving her a moment to act. "eyes on me big guy", she shouted as she tossed her axe into the wings of the gargoyle that moved to slay the mage. Bones had his attention now as the axe broke the top layer of skin and knoked it to the side. She then finished off the walker with the vampire gauntlets [exodic fist weapon] to the skull.

"Hmph. How... fitting of you... you are to be left by your comrades for dead. A fool's fate. Pathetic" It said as it prepared to impale Talus, shrugging off a good deal of the spells that hit it.
"Pathetic... pathetic...pathetic..." was all Talus heard. All at once, memories of that word flowed into his head. Memories of being laughed it, disrespected, of being forced to be the bottom of the barrel... At that moment, something in him clicked.
"Go to hell, monster. My light will not be extinguished by the likes of you!" He said, a cold, raw fury burning white-hot in his eyes as he pulled out something he had gotten earlier. A pouch of powdered silver.
"Cut finely, my magic wind! Blow thy beast back to hell!" he said, using a burst of wind magic to blow some of the powdered silver into its eyes, causing it to drop it's weapon and start clawing at them, howling blindly in a rage.
"HUUUUUUUMAAAAAAANNNN!!!! I WILL GUT YOU FOR THIS! I WILL TAN YOUR SKIN INTO A SAC, AND THEN I WILL-" It roared angrily.
"Oh, shut up. Now then. Time to show you what I learned in science class!" Talus said as he pulled out some more silver powder, and threw it at the demon before casting a fire on the powder, igniting it into a particularly nice flame that caused the gargoyle to recoil in pain.
He had more of the stuff in the pouch, of course, he would have to hope it would stall it for time. The fact he had to blind it to give himself a fighting chance showed just how out of his depth he was. If he didn't get help soon... Well, he could see several undead lumbering to him. He couldn't deal with one without leaving him open to the other. And in this case, that was 100% lethal.

Suddenly and without warning a bolt of light ripped through the air and slammed into the flying monsters face. The creature began to panic and grab its face as Shauna stepped up to Talus. "Talus you need to be more careful."
"Your a mage not a warrior", spoke Vol as he rushed by the duo and cut a zombie in the chest with his blade. "Leave the front line to the warriors." As the swordsmen spoke the und3ead beast moved to sink its claws into his flesh, but a well timed dagger in a form of unique team work from Scarlet sealed the fate of the beast.
"Keep up the good work Scarlet", spoke Bones as she stepped up with her trusty battle axe. The maiden rushed forward and engaged the seconf gargoyle leaving the group to deal with the injured one.
As the group reorganize and began to deal with the threat Wei and Xeldine found themselves alone. The Bale had moved in and was engaging the maiden in fearsome combat. For her it was a grudge match. Xeldine may not know if this creature was the one that killed her parents, but she sure treated it like such.
While Xeldine was living in the past Wei was forced to defend her in the present. The last of the soulless undead were amassing on the big group two of the bonewalkers moved to finish off the duo. Xeldine however was so focus on the spider that she was not even thinking about her back. This meant that Wei had to step up.
"Alright who is the first to die", shouted Wei as he rushed in with his axe. He swung his brave axe with one hand hoping to slay the beast quick, he was in for a world of pain. Wei's axe rushed in ready to take the kill. The bone walker however blocked it with its curved blade giving the other one time to rush in and strike with its blade. The curved cutlass slashed through the leather like a hot knife through butter. The plates underneath were the only reason Wei was alive. The blow still caused Wei to take a step back, but the armor kept him alive.

"Thanks you guys."he said as he got himself together. They were right. He needed to stay in back. He watched the battle as it unfolded as he pulled back. He started flinging fireballs at the undead from afar, so that even if they didn't die to the first fireball, they would at least be visible to the archer as targets. He looked around at the battlefield, and then he realized something that sent a chill down his spine. The second gargoyle was gone. In a panic, he looked around rapdily. If that thing ambushed them...
At that moment,he remembered something one of his teachers, a former Dark Knight, had told him.
"The biggest danger isn't always in front of you. Sometimes, you don't see the real danger until..." He remembered hearing.
"...it's too late." Talus thought, finishing the quote mentally, and with it, one terrible realization hit him.
"It couldn't have run, because the leader is dead. So since I can't see it... uh-oh. Don't tell me... he's behind me!" he thought as he turned, and quickly moved as a spear that would've pierced his back fatally barely missed him as it was thrust forward.
"Oh, you gotta be kidding me!" he said, cursing somethign fierce mentally as he quickly pulled back from the gargoyle that had set it's site on him, blasting as many spells as he could at it to try and slow it down. At that moment,Shauna shot another arrow at it that hit square in the eye, causing it to roar in pain. "Thanks again Shauna!" he said as he finally managed to get to a secure posistion he could sLing spells from.

The creatures attacks came in one after another. There blades dipped and turned looking for openings in Wei's guard. The brigand attempted to deflect these attacks with his brave axe. The weapon was forged with a unique design that allowed it to strike twice as fast as a normal weapon. However twice as fast just barely allowed Wei to deflect one blade, let alone two. The duo of Bonewalkers were doing a number on the brigand. Wei's armor was primarly designed to stop cutting attacks, but the constant assault ripped it to pieces. It was not long before a gash appeared on his chest, where a blade sliced through the tough hide and small metal plates. Another slash caught the side of his leg and another on his left arm. The creatures were ripping him to pieces.
"Damn it! A little back up please", shouted Wei, but Xeldine was to caught up in her revenge. truth be told she could not help him even if she looked his way. The spider had her on her toes. Her magical sword aided in keeping the creature back, but just barely. Her weapon was great, but her skills needed to be polished some more. Wei cursed her missing and apparently thieving master for this. Still that did not change Wei's situation. He was going to have to come up with something or he was going to die.
A bonewalker rushed in for the kill. It's blade came in low looking to strike Wei down from below as the other one came in from up top. If Wei blocked either one of there strikes he would still die from the other. As a result Wei was forced to do the unthinkable, he ran away. Suddenly tucking tail and running wei was able to avoid the blades by a hair. The two bonewalkers were not going to let ther prey get away so they rushed after him. It was not Wei's proudest moment as a warrior, but he wanted to live darn it.
[worry not Wei is still in topic, just setting up a scene]
