Four days had passed since she last made contact with the two women who were to be her guard. Belinda had to hope that these two women would commit to the journey ahead. Regardless of if they flaked on her or not she was prepared for the journey at hand. She knew the captain well enough. She had made several business arrangements with him in the past. And he was one of the few Captains who recognized Belinda for her merit in her work rather than the mistakes her family had done. He had earned her trust and she earned his. Belinda was treated as an above average passenger aboard the Highwind.
She'd still have to share the quarters below decks with the other passengers. But, she was well known enough to get the room with a locking door. And that was a blessing on a ship. She was going to have to share her room with her two guards but hey if worst comes to work she could barricade herself in. In any case she arrived on the ship bright and early. She did a final count of the cargo, foodstuffs, and water barrels herself. Recorded all of it in the storage log. And then began with a headcount of the crew. She was going to work on the ship the best way she knew how.
Her belongings were packed and tucked away in her room. She carried one set of keys to the door. And she was going to entrust the other one to Syana. Now, all she had to do was wait for them to show up.

Kayla buried her face into her pegasus' mane. "YARR MATEY!" Kayla was far too excited for her first sea voyage. Her bandanna was wrapped around her forehead, leading to a short ponytail. She also sported a false eye patch along with a novelty scimitar.
Kayla led her winged horse across the gangplank and onto the ship. The pegasus was a little hesitant to board the ship. Kayla kissed Polly's neck and spoke in a sweet tone. "Come on. Nothing to worry about. Just need to get yer sea legs Matey!" The Pegasus made it aboard and Kayla treated it with a fresh red delicious apple. Apparently, boats weren't accustomed to housing pegasi, so Kayla already spent all of her forwarded money on apples and a short trough. If Polly want to make some moves and stretch a few legs, Kayla could take to the sky at any point in the venture. Unfortunately, at this point, Kayla was in debt to the captain. The captain let her make alterations to the ship. This costs money. Money that Kayla still had to earn.
"Ok Polly. Don't let these cavemen mess with you. If you have any problems, you know what to do." The winged horse whinnied and banged a steel toed hoof against the deck a couple times. The winged horse was apparently directly above Kayla's staying quarters. "Perfect." Kayla gave an OK sign and skipped off to see her own quarters. She spoke to herself, under her breath. "Belinda and the redhead, hmmm. Maybe I can hire that redhaired lady to protect Polly. Some seafarers are only out for some quick coin."

Syana was sitting on the deck of the ship, watching everyone who came aboard. For her, it was standard practice. She would be suck on this ship with all these people for the next few months, it was necessary to get a read for everyone else on it. A majority wouldn't be a problem, but there were a few who seemed prone to either a temper or cabin fever. They wouldn't be an issue, though. The redhead would be able to take any of them out if they were to become a problem, either temporarily or permanently. Some people were opposed to killing, and while Syana may not like it, she understood it was necessary.
Belinda had arrived early, as she had expected. She was currently off doing all kinds of things in preparation for departure. Syana herself had been doing that for the last few days. She had a number of weapons stashed in various places around the ship that nobody except for her would be able to find, among other supplies. Medical gear, lock picks, various other tools. The redhead would be prepared for anything that faced them on this journey.
Ah, and here was their pegasus ride. The pegasus itself didn't seem too keen on the boat, but it's rider seemed more than excited to be here. Syana still wasn't sure if it would be a good thing or a bad one, but time would tell. It seemed the girl didn't notice her, which was to be expected. Syana was good at not being noticed.

Belinda watched the people board the ship. Workers, passengers, people carrying cargo, nothing was really out of the ordinary. The shamaness took note of Sayana's presence. The redhead was people watching too. And then her eyes fell on Kayla. It seemed the young rider was seeing the trip as some sort of game. Or perhaps as a sort of vacation. The sharp-eyed shamaness noticed all of the elaborate and completely useless gear she had on. So.. an eye patch to make her half blind.. and a weapon she probably has no idea how to use. She shook her head. Kayla was too childish for her tastes. But, her pegasus more then made up for it.
The winged steed was truly a sight to behold. Belinda never had much of an opportunity to see one up close. All she knew of the beasts were what the books had taught her. They flew by kicking the air. They only allowed females to ride them. Though there have been some rare cases where men have ridden them. Usually, these cases involved emergencies or if the male in question was a demi-god, like Bellerophon or Perseus. The books also stated that particularly long-lived or wise pegasi had large unicorn-like horns on their heads. These horns were sometimes harvested and used in alchemy and potion brewing. Supposedly they had magnificent magical properties, though there was no scientific basis for this theory though. I wonder why a horn is grown to begin with.. hmm.. perhaps as a way to show mates that they are superior.. no.. that wouldn't explain why both male and female pegsai grow the horns.. once they reach a certain point. And this growth could be spontaneous.. Belinda shook her head. She was getting sidetracked and she knew it. She needed to refocus her attention.
She slowly made her way up and over towards Sayana.
"Good morning."

Kayla found her quarters empty, apparently she was going to share the space with the redhead and the purple haired employer. However, they were no where to be seen. She dropped off her gear and proceeded to survey the boat. This boat was going to be her home for the foreseeable future, may as well get accustomed to it. She searched the ship, all the while looking for the two women who she had met in that bar. Dumb, stuck up bar, glad I won't have to deal with that mean bouncer again. However, she would have to deal with her employer again and her first impression left more to be desired.
Kayla's eyes fell upon a woman with purple hair. That had to be her. Alright Kayla, make a good impression this time. Be professional and courteous like my parents always lectured me about. The pegasus rider sighed at the thought of being a proper lady for even a moment, it just wasn't in her nature. This was going to be a challenge.
Kayla approached the two with her chest puffed out and her nose tilted into the air. She strode briskly, still garbed in her novelty pirate attire. "Good Mor.. Uh Morrow, my dear ladies. Kayla the seasailor reporting for uhh duty." The pegasus rider clicked her heels together for no particular reason aside from seeing soldiers do it from time to time. Wee, that wasn't so hard right? Kayla let out a reluctant smile at herself although she was trying to keep a straight, expressionless face.

Footsteps approached her, and Syana could tell by their pace and sound that it was Belinda approaching her. Without looking over, the redhead gave a small nod of her head. "Good morning, Belinda." Finally turning and looking at the woman, she noticed she looked just as she did the night she hired her. Focused, ready for what might face them. Good, she expected nothing less from someone who would hire her. "Things have gone as expected. I've swept the ship twice, kept track of the people who have come and gone. The usual fair."
The redhead allowed her gaze to drift back to the boarding area, continuing to watch those who came on board. "There are a few people I've noted as potential agents for trouble, but they're nothing I can't handle. All in all, things are progressing as expected." Syana didn't mention the numerous weapons she had hidden around the ship, as she expected Belinda already figured she had done it, and it wasn't the best thing to say out loud. If there were someone who slipped past her gaze, there was no reason to give them any information that could be used against her.
The pegasus rider approached, and Syana bit her tongue. There were a few things she could like to speak to the girl about, but this wasn't her mission. It was Belinda's. So instead, the redhead stood silently by Belinda's side. It was times like these that she really missed working with Saturos. She wondered where he was now.

The shamaness was pleased to hear all about Syana's precautions. She was happy with the level of professionalism that the assassin had shown. Although now she wondered which sort of people she was talking about. What sort of potential troublemakers there could be? Belinda knew some of the crew on board. Her family had worked with them a couple of times and when she struck out on her own she came to them for some assistance. It was thanks to Captian and Crew of the Highwind that she was able to make her way out towards Nabata.
"Do let me know which folks you see as potential trouble. I have a duty to this captain to ensure a decent voyage for our passenger and crew. As such I would like to nip any sort of trouble in the bud." Belinda spoke softly to Syana.
The young Miss Kayla approached and greeted them. Belinda was glad to see her too even though she would not admit it. The fact that she was here meant that she was committed to the goal. And the fact that she was committed to the goal meant that there would be less of a hassle for the Shaman in the future. She disliked informing her small circle of sailors of a thief. Word spread quickly among sailors and those words could be misconstrued. Misinformation had a tendency to ruin lives, as well as the lives of the innocent around them.
"Good morning Kayla." Belinda returned the greeting in a casual manner.
"I see you are trying to act like a lady of standing." She smirked a bit.
"I'd like for you to stop." She spoke seriously.
"I appreciate the effort though. But, I feel if you try to keep up the act, you will be so focused on trying to act sophisticated, you would neglect your other duties. And for you to be a functioning member of this crew and my employee I need you to be flexible." She took a step forward and turned around to look at both ladies.
"There are a few rules I would like to discuss before we leave port." She paused for a moment.
"You two are under my employment. And that means your priorities should be focused on my safety and well being. But, we will also be on this ship for several weeks. People are bound to get hurt or sick within that timeframe. So, If the crew asks for you to help with some minor tasks that do not interfere with your primary objective, please help them." She nodded.
"I'd also like to emphasize that we exert caution. We are ladies on a ship that is mostly manned by men. I do not need to explain those implications. Now while I trust the Captian to not do anything shady, I cannot say the same for the crew. Crew's change with every port. I do not want any of us roaming the ship at night, a curfew will be in place."

Kayla heard Belinda's comment about her trying to act as an upstanding lady. Her employed had let on that she appreciated the effort, then she was honest asking for her to stop pretending. The young Pegasus knight immediately slouched her shoulders and let out a sigh of relief. Oh goodness, it sure would’ve been a hassle to try to keep that act up. Kayla smiled and let out a playful response to her employer. “Aww. How’d you know I was acting?” Kayla didn’t really expect an answer, she just sometimes enjoyed the sound of her own commentary. “But nothing to worry about here, flexibility is one of my strong suits.” Kayla made a motion of stretching her arms over her head.
Belinda laid down the ground rules. Of course they were stricter than the young lady would’ve preferred. She enjoyed her freedom but if this was the price she had to pay to sail the seas, she would gladly pay it. She would also be happy to help the sailors with whatever thing she could help with. She had a certain fascination with how these people managed to travel the seas so reliably.
Kayla made a face when she heard the term curfew. She tilted her head toward her redheaded coworker and raised a skeptical eyebrow. Kayla had never obeyed a curfew in her life. That said, this was a new case and she was willing to obey. “Alright, curfews are cool and all, but we aren’t the only delicate flowers on this ship.” Kayla glanced over at her steed which was slowly getting used to the rocking of the ship. She turned back and spoke in her own serious tone. “If I hear Polly in trouble, I’m coming to her rescue, any time, day or night.” Kayla held her expression for a moment to make sure that there was no joke in this matter.
Kayla smiled again after a moment. “Golly, I’m just happy to be here. You can count on me, I’ll do my job to perfection. ” Kayla raised her hand in an OK gesture.

Syana gave the smallest of head shakes at Belinda's question. "If they decide to cause trouble, they won't get very far with it, I assure you of that. I can still provide you a list, if you'd like." She cut their conversation short there, as Kayla had arrived. Not that she thought Kayla would say anything, but this was something she wanted to keep between herself and her employer.
The redhead tried to ignore most of the banter between Belinda and Kayla. Instead, her eyes darted around at the last few people boarding the ship. The last thing she needed was for someone to slip onto the ship while she was distracted by idle chitchat about acting like a lady. Thankfully, none of the latecomers seemed like they'd be any trouble. At Belinda's mention of rules, Syana let her eyes drift back to her employer.
First first comment was logical. The safety of the client was the first and highest priority. It always was. Second would be any co-workers, in this case Kayla. Then the rest of the people on the ship. As long as the first two were alright, there would be no problem in assisting around the ship if her services were required. During her travels, Syana had picked up a number of skills that could be useful on a trip like this, so she would use them if required.
The second was something she did have a concern with. "A curfew would be a hard thing for me to abide by. My top priority is your safety, and to maintain that, I'll need to patrol the ship at least a couple of times a night. Make sure everything and everyone is in order. If any of the crew wants to try something, I'll make them pay dearly for it. If, however, you still with yo insist on a curfew, I will do as you wish." She turned her eyes to Kayla. "And don't worry about your pegasus. She's part of this group and thus falls under my protection as well. No harm shall befall her."

"A curfew would be hard to abide by for you. I suppose we will reach a compromise. We will try out the curfew for the first few nights until we are fully established at sea." Belinda glanced back at the Pegasus in the distance.
"Now then... Kayla why don't you introduce me to Polly." Belinda slowly motioned for Kayla to guide her up towards her flying horse. But, she took a moment to speak with Syana for an in a soft voice.
"Yes, I'll be happy to have that list. Thank you." Belinda nodded and was ready to follow Kayla.
"I've only seen Pegasi from a distance. The messengers would fly in, dismount, deliver, and fly off. I only caught glimpses of them through the windows and such. Books only explain so much detail about them." The shamaness spoke to Kayla. She knew a little bit about Pegsai. Like how they flew by kicking up the air and not their wings. Or how they had the same diet as traditional land horses. If she was going to be stuck with her for the next few months, might as well make the most of it. Studying a pegasus up close was a rare opportunity. To pass up such an opportunity would be an insult to her as a scholar. It wasn't long before the captain gave the order to raise the anchor. The ship gave its last call for passengers and rang a bell. They had about five minutes before the ship would officially sail.
"What's it like to fly?" She asked in a genuinely curious voice. ---
After five minutes had passed, the ship rang it's final bell. The sail's were unfurled and they were off.

Kayla’s coworker claimed that Polly would fall under her protection. That was certainly reassuring. Kayla nodded her appreciation toward the redhead. “Thanks for that, er… I didn’t catch your name earlier. Mine’s Kayla.” The young Pegasus knight extended her hand in a proper greeting. Belinda began to speak of a compromise on the curfew. It seemed fair enough to the young rider. Polly could probably last a few nights without getting checked in on. “All good, you're the boss after all.” Then Belinda expressed her curiosity in seeing her pegasus.
“Oooh yeah yeah yeah. Polly loves meeting new people. Well usually only girls. And only super cool girls. But yeah I’m sure she’ll love to meet my new friends!” Kayla half walked, half skipped over to the makeshift stable where Polly was situated. The Pegasus had its wings tucked in and was drinking from a barrel of fresh water. It seemed like it was calming down and getting accustomed to the boat. Kayla placed her head against the winged horse’s neck. “Polly, there are a couple people you should meet.” The Pegasus raised its head from the barrel of water.
Kayla motioned toward Belinda first. “This is Belinda. She’s our boss. Say hi.” The Pegasus whinnied lightly. Kayla indicated toward the red haired woman behind. “And see that lady over there? She’s gonna keep us safe. Make sure you thank her when you get a chance.” The Pegasus bobbed its head.
Belinda then asked what it was like to fly. Kayla did have a certain perspective that not a lot of riders shared. From what she had learned in her training, most riders say it’s fun or thrilling. Exhilarating even. “Well, its quiet. Peaceful and all. But once you get used to it, I find it kinda boring really.” Kayla found excitement in other areas of life. To her, flying was just a convenience, one that she often took for granted.
Kayla stayed near Polly for the next few minutes, making sure everything was as it should be. As the sails caught wind the Pegasus began to panic all over again. It reared up a couple times. Kayla had to wrap her arms around the winged horse’s neck in an attempt to sooth it. “Okay, okay its cool Polly. Calm down. This is no different than when were on land.” The Pegasus stopped rocking the boat, but it was still noticeably nervous.

Syana nodded to Belinda, biting her tongue as she did. She strongly disliked the idea of a curfew, but Belinda was her employer for this trip, which meant what she said goes. Hopefully, she reversed her decision in a few days time. No one in this crew would be able to lay a finger on her. If they tried, they'd lose something. If they were lucky, it would only be an arm. Same if they tried anything with her employer or her co-worker. Some might underestimate her based on her build or her gender. As far as Syana cared, let them. It would only make it easier to put them down. She was one of the deadliest women in the world, and it was their heads if they wanted to test that.
The pegasus knight asked for her name and offered a hand. The redhead reached out and shook her hand with a tight grip. "You can call me Syana." Letting go of her hand, she turned her attention to the pegasus. Being from Ilia, she was quite familiar with them. Thought she had never been destined to ride one, she always had a soft spot for them. It was a shame, really, such beautiful creatures being rode into combat. But she had quickly learned that they could hold their own. Sometimes, she wished she had taken the route of a pegasus rider, but it wasn't meant to be. Moving towards the creature, Syana held up a hand to show there was nothing to be afraid of. Slowly, she ran it down the pegasus' mane. She spoke to the creature in a much softer voice than she had to anyone else. "There's a good girl. You're a gorgeous one, you are."
When the sails were dropped and the ship began to move, the redhead pulled out a piece of paper. Now that she knew the full roster of those on board, it was time to start making the list.

The shamaness was both a little surprised and subsequently disappointed at the fact that the Pegasus was quite literally a winged horse. Part of her half expected to see something more unusual about them. But, the Pegasus felt, snorted, and smelled like a regular horse. Although she would admit the horsey smell was lighter than what she was accustomed too. Although that might be due to the fact that they were out to sea with plenty of breezes to blow away any sort of scent. Belinda noticed the two other women petting the winged steed and she did the same. She let the white horse smell her a bit first before the Shamaness took to petting her on the side of the neck.
"It's nice to meet you." She spoke with some calmness in her voice. Belinda took the list provided to her by Sayana. She would take the liberty of memorizing the names before she gave it off to the captain. Just in case the captain lost it or if it got stolen in the future. --
It had been about four weeks since they set sail from Badon. And just like it was promised the ship made landfall at a singular little port town in between the Nabatan and Lycian borders. The town was well known for being a rest stop for travelers traveling between the countries. It was blessed with a small river that allowed it to support its people and what little agriculture that could be cultivated in the poor soil. Most of its inhabitants a living fishing off the sea then farming.
The ship and her crew were given one day of rest here in the port city. Cargo needed to be unloaded and supplies needed to be restocked. Passengers who had paid up to this part of the journey needed to be dismounted. And a few crewmen needed to be replaced. -
OOC: Small little rest stop here. The next post will take place a week after this and start the fight with the pirates.

Kayla nodded and logged Syana's name. She was glad that Polly took a liking to the other two girls. Pegasi were most comfortable around females and Polly's serene nature was certainly going to be put to the test around all these burly sailors. Having more women around would help Kayla keep her mount calm. For the first leg of the trip, Kayla spent a lot of time near Polly's makeshift stable making sure the Pegasus was stable. As the ship pulled into port, Kayla decided it was a good time for them both to stretch their legs.
Kayla led the somewhat reluctant horse down the gangplank. It was already getting surprisingly hot, and they weren't even in the Proper Nabatan desert yet. It didn't really matter though. Hot weather was easier to fly in than cold weather. Although neither are what one would call comfortable. Kayla found an open area and climbed up onto Polly's saddle. "You ready?" The winged horse bobbed its head. "Then let's fly!" Polly took two galloping steps to take flight into the air. A few more kicks against the ground brought the duo high into the sky. Only now did Kayla realize how bright the sun was, beaming down on the small port town.
Kayla could tell Polly needed some time in the air. The winged horse was kicking the air so vigorously that Kayla had to lean against the reins to keep them from going too high or to fast. Kayla was sure to make it back to the ship prior to their departure, but she certainly did enjoy her time off the ship.

Once she was done meeting the pegasus and had given Belinda her list, Syana decided it was time to get to work. She made her way around the ship quietly, declining to interact with any of the other passengers. They might think her rude, but she didn't care what they thought of her. She had a job to do, and she intended to do it. First things first, she wanted to make sure that all of her hidden weapons were still where she had left them. The last thing she needed was for something to actually happen and her to go for a weapon that someone had found and taken. Admittedly, no one should be able to find them, but you never knew.
Thankfully, her walk of the ship proved that everything was still where she left it. Excellent. Syana took an official patrol of the ship, noting the high congestion areas, and those where the people on her list seemed to favor. Any information she could gather like this would make her job easier. And an easy job meant that people stayed safe. The woman had seen far too many simple journeys like this go off the rails because those working didn't bother to pay enough attention to what was going on around her. That was not going to happen here.
--
In roughly the month they had been at sea, the trip had been pleasantly clam. There was one small dusty up between two men over some stupid reason or another, but Syana had put a stop to it quickly. It seemed that was enough to deter most others from trying to start anything. Fear could be effective. When they had landed at the port, Syana was once again careful to monitor who left the ship and who was new coming on. Just like the first time, she had prepared another list of Belinda and the captain. It could be nothing, but better safe than sorry.
