who was the first man you have ever killed, and Why did you kill them? That was the opening to a negotiation with Wei. The start to a conversation that would change the young man's life. Wei, a guardsmen son, had joined up with a small band of sailors out of the port of Badon. These were not fishermen, nor were they merchants, They were raiders plain and simple. There goal was coin and there occupation was death. There mission raid and sink any vessel in the water that did not fly the Lycian flag. Be that vessel fishermen, merchant, transport, or out right military.
Wei, young and still lacking experience in the world joined up with this band of cut throats for one thing, there captain, a man by the name of Beowolf. He was a middle aged man with tree trunks for legs and a warhammer with a legendary kill count. He was the talk in all of Lycia. No little boy who ever dreamed of sailing the seas would turn down a invitation to sail with this legendary captain. Wei was no different. The moment he pulled into port wei jumped on the opportunity to sail with him. It took a lot of begging and a promise of no wages beyond loot, but Wei was aboard The Sons of Roland, his legendary longboat.
The journey was rough, especially for a new sea man like Wei, but he adjusted. His body got use to the sea and his arms adjusted to the extra labor of the sea. For a while it did not seem as if they would raid any ships. Every ship they passed held the flags of there home port, well till they hit the isles. It was then that things changed. They spotted a viable ship, a perfect target. The sails were dropped and the oars pulled out. The men began to sing and the wind began to howl. The sky roared in anticipation and lightning danced in the heavens. Durdan was watching, crying, weeping, as his children were going to be slaughtered by the sons of Roland.

Another mundane meeting on another mundane day. There were no leads as to where Bartholomew was located and training only curbed the boredom for so long. Gar was restless. He needed to get out to sea. He needed to feel the salt and the wind on his face again. Imagine his excitement when he heard the harbor master’s report. Men were needed to go on a scouting mission. Gar rose. “I’m going.” His stubborn demeanor shot down any sentiments of hesitance. Gar left the meeting with a scowl, as if something had rubbed him the wrong way. Speak your mind.
What has become of me? I used to spend months at sea. Didn’t have a care in the world. Now, I… I’m just another land lover. I’m losing my edge! Get me back to sea dammit! As he walked the halls he got stopped by one of his blacksmiths, the one that was to help him out with Oscar’s burial.
“Captain, I came across something that might interest you.” The blacksmith beckoned him over to a room that smelled like charcoal and sweat. What he saw was amazing. A double handed axe, much like Junzentaru, but the edge was coated with a certain metal. “Is that?”
“Aye, Captain. This should help you with those scumbag dark mages.” The remnants of Oscar, the metal figurine, had been crafted into a plating that coated this new axe. Gar gripped the new weapon and held it infront of his face. “Oscar…” He had to show Aeos. Oscar had gained a new purpose. Unfortunately, Gar had to leave port before he would get a chance. Sure enough, later that day, Gar was at sea, accompanied by Junzentaru, Oscar and a crew of his most sea worthy pirates. They caught eye of a ship, a ship with flags. Gar took a look at the group. The Sons of Roland?
Gar had seen them before. He also used to operate out of Badon, but he had never worked for the group directly. By the looks of it, peace talks had already broken down. Lycian pirates weren't the same as those on the isles. “Tryin to come at my ship hmm? They’re not in the shallow end anymore.” Gar roared a couple orders at the pirates.
Are you certain this group is our enemy? We can still converse with them, make peace? Otherwise, I cannot assist you in this trivial battle of assertiveness. June pulsed lightly, then faded. Gar laid Junzentaru against a wall in his quarters.
Relax June, We’ve got this. The berserker drew ‘Oscar’ for the first time. The weight was different, but he liked the way it felt. “Let them try and board as long as the captain ain't with them were golden." That man, Beowulf, he was something, but Gar had to wonder why he never expanded out of Badon.

The storm was rough, but no rougher than anything The Sons of Roland had faced. Wei was no different, the time it had taken them to get here had adjusted him to the sea. The enemy ship had spotted them it seemed and were preparing for there attack. It was going to be a rough battle. A trip into the sea looked to be a death trap, the strong waves and fearsome current would drag the sturdiest sea legs under to a watery grave. Just the way Beowolf liked it.
" Get yee axes ready and your bottoms off ye butts", shouted the captain as he prepared his men for combat. The command was unnecessary to be truthful. The sea dogs were already prepared for battle, even Wei. The truth however was that the call to battle was more of a formal warning telling the crew to be ready, the sailor who was caught unaware was a dead man.
The first to move were the Board Dogs, the group Wei was a part of. As the ship approached the archers fired off a few rounds of arrows to try and pry the men from the edges of there boat. A local mage, by the name of Hogwinston, Hog for short, began firing up his wind tome in a effort to deflect incoming fire. While this went on Wei and the rest of the team threw there lines. There goal was to latch onto the enemy ship and pull themselves aboard. Once they reached the top they would hold there spot and allow the boarders to join them. It was like climbing a wall in a castle, your more than likely to die.
"Alright here goes nothing", spoke Wei as he strapped his broad two handed brave axe to his back and threw his line. The hook clamped onto something and wei was starting his climb.

Gar was smiling as the storm blew his damp hair about. Now were talking. He had been itching for a battle like this. Years and years of naval combat and it progressed the same way each time. One ship or the other would have to try to board. A classic dance of death. Fortunately, they made the first move, tossing their arrows and lines onto his ship. Gar noted some kind of wind mage spinning his wheels in defense of his own ship. Gar’s crew didn’t have any wind mages but every seasoned pirate had enough common sense to duck behind the guardrail under enemy fire. Then came the hooks and the boarding party. They were called the suicide mates for a reason.
“You know the drill. Let a couple on, cut the lines and jump em.” This part was important, but terribly unexciting. Gar wasn’t concerned with the Lycian corsairs against his crew of true western islander pirates. He was simply sitting in wait. Maybe one of these sons of roland could keep up with a berserker’s crew on their home surf.
Gar almost yawned, assuming the Lycians were out of their depth here, when he saw a redhaired boy with a nice looking weapon. Now that was a brave weapon had he ever seen one. “Let him board, hold the line behind him! I want to see something.” Gar cracked his vertebrae, It was time to see how Oscar felt in combat. The berserker almost felt bad for calling out a young one, but if he was wielding a brave weapon, he had to have some kind of skill right?
“Hahahar, You sure you’re in the right place, matey?”

The lines went up and the men began to move. The enemy reacted quickly cutting lines and firing arrows. A few of there mates dropped into the sea as there lines were cut. The swirling mass of blackness that was the ocean welcomed such a fine host. Many sailors declared that the sea was there mother, in this instance she was welcoming them home with open arms. as the men fell toward the ocean the mage was able to save a few. His wind magic would pick them up and there brothers in arms would grab them and pull them in before they fell to there murky doom.
Wei however was lucky, the man who moved to cut his line was hit by a arrow. Another sailor seemed poised to run up and cut the line, but there leader called him back. Apparently he wanted something from Wei, if he had to guess his crimson head. Red hair always made wei stand out. People always targeted him as being tough. This time it was no different, but Wei was ready to respond to the challenge. drawing his weapon from his back Wei faced the captain of the ship. His line was still up and another sea dog was climbing it. It was Wei's job to hold the line till back up arrived.
"Childish taunts coming from a corpse", roared Wei over the rain! A sailor moved to cut Wei's line, but the double bladed brigand would not allow it. With a powerful swing Wei swung his weapon at the man. The soldier countered with a block, but Wei's axe allowed him to strike at half the time as a normal strike. Using the speed of his weapon Wei was able to slam the head of his axe into the man's stomach. The blow sent the man tumbling into the blackness below. Wei's action allowed another suicide man to reach the deck of the ship. The man took guard defending the point while somebody else climbed. Wei on the other hand charged forward ready to accept the challenge.

Gar's crew was playing the game as they had done a thousand times before. Efficient in their defense of the deck. The sounds of wind and rain and combat permeated through the air. Gar hefted Oscar to rest lazily on his shoulder. He examined the redhaired dual axewielder on his approach. The two axes reminded him of how he used to fight, usually two iron axes for quick blows that had some wight behind them. However, this one was wielding a brave axe, a lighter, even quicker variant. Gar thought back through his battles and could only remember fighting one person with a brave weapon. It was a knight in an arena, the brave weapon didn't help that guy too much, all his armor kept him from using the multiple thrusts effectively.
Gar shrugged, enough analysis, time to show this boy a thing or two. The berserker took two deliberate, surefooted, steps to close the distance between himself and the opponent before allowing his momentum and strength to carry the new axe in a downward arc. That would likely put an end to the dual wielder's charge. He lifted the axe back onto his shoulder and spoke to his opponent. He continued with his taunts, they were always more effective on the younger mates, the ones who thought they had something to prove. "So tell me, how did a stowaway like you get a weapon like that?" Gar indicated toward the brave axe in question.
His response would be very telling, the boy effectively had a choice to make. If he simply attacked the berserker, well the kid probably wasn't too bright. Now if he answered the question, maybe the boy didn't really want to fight him, perhaps there is another reason why he was here aside from 'captain's orders'. Or maybe he would both answer and attack, but Gar had a plan in mind for this brave axe dual wielder.

With both of his axes drawn Wei charged forward like a boar towards its own doom. Wei however was slightly smarter. As his opponents axe came down in a attempt to smash him into paste Wei rolled to the side dodging the axe and placing himself at a angle toward from the berserk. Ready to charge again wei was bombarded with a question that was ready to send him into a berserk rage. Wei always took pride in his ability to fight, but his metal was always being questioned on the count of his age. Now it had become a pet P for the brigand. He hated it, with every fiber in his body!
"What the hell that is suppose to mean! You think just because I am young I can't fight! Arrogant drunken lout! I am going to place this axe deep into your skull." With that wei charged again. This time however things were a bit different. Wei's speed had kicked up a step and the assault pattern was changed. The moment Wei got close enough for a axe strike the boy let out a fearsome roar and jumped into the air. In a spectacular leap Wei jumped eight feet in the air. His twin axes poised to come down on the burly berserker. This blow had served Wei well back on land so wei figured it would work here as well.
while Wei challenged his destiny the sons of Roland challenged there own. the fighting had grown fearsome. There was only one line up, but the wind mage, by the order of the captain, altered there plan. Using the wind magic they were able to push some boys up onto the decks to reinforce the one line. This allowed for others to climb aboard and the real fight to begin.

The taunt hit it's mark. Simple as that to get into a young man's mind, Gar should know, he still often fell for such petty tricks as that. The enraged boy seemed to act without thinking, he leapt off the deck. Any pirate should know to keep their feet in contact with the deck, who knows how the ship could move beneath them, especially in a storm. Gar was forced to come to the conclusion that this was not a sailor, which begged the question, what was he doing on this ship of pirates? There wasn't much time for contemplation here, the boy was in the middle of an attack. Gar had to react.
As soon as the charging brigand's feet left the deck, Gar simply had to take a couple steps to the side to be out of the raging redhead's range. It would be impossible for the boy to change direction while in the air, and Gar anticipated a sloppy landing with the deck being slick from the rain. It was time to teach the kid the first rule of ship combat. Keep your footing. Sailors emphasize sea legs for a reason. Gar crouched low, placing his off hand on the deck for stability and swung his axe at the landing legs of the leaping lad. It was Gar's typical way of testing his opponent's balance. He maintained his crouched position for the time being. He wasn't going to move unless his attack created an opening or of course, he was in danger.

Ah crap, thought Wei as the berserker moved out of the way. How in the world, thought Wei. this attack had worked the last time he dis it. Why now of all times did it not work. Was there something wrong with his timing, no that could not be it. If there was he would not have made the distance. then there was something on the other end then. Wei had done all his parts, it was his opponent. The guy was clearly skilled with the axe. From the look before he was the captain of the ship. That meant that he was the most seasoned sailer or the most skilled. With that in mind it made some sense why the attack did not work. He probably used it in the past and knew all it's weak points.
Wei came down hard, he expected this. He also predicted that a attack would come next. In his mind it would be a downward slash delivered from the right shoulder, a perfect head chopper. Wei was going to need to jump to the side the moment he landed. The plan was laid out, butthere was one little problem, Wei slipped. The deck was not dry land. It was not only wet but rocking. Wei's feet came down in a slide instead of flat and wei's plan to jump to the side slipped right past him The brigand still expected a attack and in a move of desperation he rolled into the slip and tumbled a good bit away. Not wanting to be caught on his back Wei stabbed his iron axe into the deck and pulled himself up. The moment he got on his feet however the berserker was attacking his legs. Wei had to act. Taking advantage of the speed advantage of his brave axe Wei was able to force a clash with his weapon. With both of his hands on his axe Wei was able to block the the incoming attack, but the low guard and rocky footing made it hard to hold. Wei was forced to give way and use the slip of the boat to slide back out of the deadly cutting rang.
This guy is good, thought Wei to himself.

Gar smiled at the brigand’s speedy parry. It was difficult to hide his glee in light of the classic sea combat that he was so accustomed to. If was a needed refresher, a break from the bustle and stress from running his fortress. This combat was a berserker’s walk in the park and to top it all off, he got to try out a brand new axe. And a little break from June’s righteous speeches isn’t bad either. This combat had Gar practically clapping his hands together in joy.
The kid was both quick witted and quick acting enough to avoid getting maimed by the berserker’s strike. Good move. Still there was enough force behind the axe to send the younger combatant sliding away. The next part is simple enough, press the attack, preferably before the opponent can truly regain their defensive standing. Gar proceeded to dart forward out of his crouched stance as if he were a sprinter taking off from the starting blocks. The berserker twisted his torso and raised the new axe above his head. As Gar closed the distance, he swung the weapon forcefully. A horizontal slice intended to have enough force to be able to disarm any further attempted parries.
Gar had already decided he probably wouldn’t be going for any lethal strikes here if they could be avoided. From what had already been displayed the young combatant had plenty of potential, he was likely already a problem for the typical soldier or knight. Who knows, with some time and guidance, the boy could become a great warrior. But for now, the boy had to react to Gar’s chest level swing.

This is bad thought Wei as his opponent was controlling the battle. Wei had to change things up or he was going to die. After being slid back it was clear to wei that his opponent held the advantage in power and footing. The only thing Wei had the advantage in was his swinging speed. Wei's weapon was faster than than his. That was all he had to work with. Wei would have to make something out of that. Still Wei wondered why the guy had not turned up the heat. If it was him he would have went in for the kill already.
Almost on point the berserker charged with his axe at the ready. Wei was going to have to be quick on his feet if he did not want to lose his head. Seeing the man charge at him Wei had only one thought in his mind, charge. Like a boar in the woods facing down a mounted knight Wei charged toward the berserker. As the two came close his opponent swung his axe in a horizontal attack. Wei, already knowing the out come of a clash measured the steps. rather than face his opponent weapon out right Wei opted to jump for the deck and roll. Letting the slick of the ship and the momentum of his body carry him. Once he recovered Wei dashed over to his iron axe and pulled it out of the deck of the ship.
"Dang your a tough one. OLD MAN, WHAT IS YOUR NAME!" At this point Wei realized he was not going to beat this guy. The only option left was to retreat. However Wei did not like to turn his back to a enemy, at the very least he wanted the guys name. So he would know the man to beat when he got stronger.

The redhead dove away from the strike, leaving his feet once again. If Gar had it in him, he would've made the boy pay for making the same mistake twice. The berserker's eyes followed the diving brigand's trajectory and he pictured dropping his axe into the boy's spine. However, Gar wasn't out for blood here and the boy also seemed to come to his senses. Apparently, the brigand was going to fall back. This was good, it made Gar's job easier. Instead of sending the boy back to the opposing captain bruised and bloodied, the boy could deliver Gar's message with his body in tact. Gar straightened himself out of his combat stance. He flipped the handle of his new axe in the air. Pretty good stuff there, Oscar. He caught it once again by the handle and hefted it back onto his shoulder.
"Name's Gar. Ahoy." He spoke loud enough for his voice to carry through the storm and the combat. He was almost certain Beowulf would've at least heard of his name, seeing as they both had ties to Badon and Gar was the talk of the town for a little while. "What do you call yerself?" Gar would certainly remember the headstrong redhead with the nice weapon.
Gar spoke with a smile. "Hahar, Tell your captain that us Badon natives need not fight among ourselves. The seas are rough enough in these waters, let's just part ways and forget about this little spat." Gar withheld some choice words out of respect for the Lycian captain. He didn't want any bad blood to come from this encounter. "Oh and if you ever find yourself in a rough spot, come to Caledonia's eastern side, I'll see what I can do to help." Gar didn't specify if that part was directed toward the captain or the redheaded brigand. He decided to leave it just that way, ambiguous.

OCC: Sorry for the late response
IC:
"The name is Wei, Wei Balder of Thria. Remember that name well. One day I will return and fight you again. When that day comes don't you dare hold back today, for I will not!" With that line Wei retreated back toward the line of his crew. The old captain had given the signal to fall back. Things were going south and this ship was a bit to ready. It was better to cut your losses while you were ahead. If they fought to long they ran the risk of lossing to many skilled sailors.
As wei moved to retreat he thought back onto the battle. It was a disgrace. He was sliding all over the place and he made far to many mistakes. The diffrence between a land and sea battle was vast, and even if he was on land he figured he did not stand a chance. Wei was going to have to take a look at his fighting style. He was going to ask himself what was effective and what was not. His was far better than he use to be, but he was still far away from what he needed to become. At this rate Wei was going to end up a dead man. He was far to reckless and he lacked out in the necessary skill.
"Dang it", murmured Wei as he was greeted into his crew lines. The young brigand bit his lip to keep himself from crying. Wei hated to loses.
