The trip was long, but not nearly as long as she had expected it to be, it was a delightfully easy venture if she had to say actually, and now she neared the last leg of it. 'Don't go that way, you won't come back' they said. 'You can shove it and eat a sock' she did not say but wanted to. Supposedly this pass was dangerous to go through but she did not care about that. She refused to give in to their demands she take the long way round, besides, dangerous or not, she had things she needed to see along this road.
No travelers would offer her passage and so she traversed by foot. The steep incline was a real pain in her legs but she was a manakete! She could take it. Take in all of the burning in her calves and channel it into pure rage induced motivation. WOOO!!! Feel that great BERN! Hah, she smiled at her own inner humor. She hated this walk. She hated it with a Berning passion! Okay she was done.
Up ahead she spotted a traveler? He looked like a traveler? Or no... no those clothes were WAY too torn up and, well limited, barbaric eve- oh no. That was not a traveler, that was a bandit if she has ever seen one! Perhaps she should turn around now and just go back to town before he sees her? It was quicker to go downhill than up after all right? Yeah, that sounded like a good plan. Oh da** it! They were behind her too now.

The Bernese tournament... Sigma was always giddy hearing about it every year. But this year... oooh this year it was going to be special. He had set his eyes on joining it and trying to show people what he was made of. He wasn't expecting far really, but he knew he could still have fun and give a good show to everybody watching at least.
Walking down the road towards the much warmer region than Sigma was used to, (like seriously green grass was actually a thing he had seen maybe only a few times) he was pretty stoked about it. It was a nice break from all of the seriousness that was happening around him. Winding down and visiting another country would be great. Also he could sharpen his swordplay by watching all of the other contestants and learn many new tricks.
The trip had been pretty normal, he even was able to reach Bern without a single hickup. Though sadly, Sigma realised that trouble always brewed when he heard trouble ahead. Running towards it while sticking to the woods if he needed to run quickly, he noticed two bandits seemingly closing in on a young woman with black hair and very pale skin. A Illian if I had to guess. Anyway, now was not the time to ask questions, they weregoing to steal and (probably) hurt that woman if he didn't do anything! As he got closer, he decided to lunge out with both of his shortswords drawn. The bandit evaded the attack by jumping away but at least he had stopped paying attention to the young girl. Wait what? Who the hell do you think you are?
He grinned before replying: Let's keep talking for after I help out this lady, alright? Seeing the bandit come closer, Sigma waited with both swords drawn, ready for a fight.

The bandits were quite pleased, quite pleased indeed! Yet another, lone traveler, foolish enough to enter into 'Sharktooth's Playground' and a pretty thing at that. Oh, she would sell well to the right buyer, and boss would be happy with their productive initiative! As the two began to close in on her she sighed.
"No, please, do not hurt me. I am a frail and fragile, delicate flower. I am unarmed." Her tone could not be less interested or devoid of emotions than it currently was. The bandits who were once grinning and laughing while tapping their axes in their hands were now a bit more confused. Not enough to give up their advance but enough to become a bit wary of her. Was she bluffing or was there something else up her sleeve? They would just have to come closer and find out!
As Nightingale slowly turned around to check on just how close the other advancing bandit was she was stunned to notice a third figure had joined the party. He was rather tall too, but so sneaky, she had to admit, she was in fact impressed. And her smirk tipped the other bandit off. Darn it Nightingale, you gave away the surprise!
"Wait, what? Who the hell do you think you are!?" The bandit had just narrowly evaded two blades sticking him in the back. "I 'unno who the hell you are but I am gonna make you regret ever coming here you little crap!" Oh he was mad. Nightingale would sigh and comment on how tiny his manhood must be to be so easily riled up, daddy leave home at a young age perhaps? Or was his home destroyed by bandits and his parents killed? That seemed to be a dime a dozen story these days.
The bandit regained his footing and squared off with the thief. He began to circle him looking for the best opening and opportunity to strike him down. "I want you to know, your ears will make a fine trophy!" He laughed before rushing in with a heavy swing. He was banking on his threat to shake up the thief.
Meanwhile Nightingale was free to focus on the other bandit. "I hope you know I can fight bare fists. In fact I killed a soldier far better than your sorry hide just before coming to Bern." The look in her eyes told no lies, and it was cold. The bandit seemed to consider his options but resolved to mess her up.
Rushing her he came full on to strike her with he backside of his axe. Nonlethal but very painful. "Oap!" Nightingale slipped away from that one. "I told you. Leave or I will kill you. The only reason I don't use a blade is they all break in my hands." Her taunts were not lies, but they angered the bandit further all the same.

"I don't think that you ctting my ears will help with that undersized brain of yours, sadly." he replied, slowly turning to continue facing the ruffian. He studied the way he walked... Well, it was obvious this man relied more on strength than agility, his steps were heavy, no speed or nimbleness at all. He waited up until when his opponent started rushing towards him to deliver with what would've been a strong blow to the head. As he brought down his longsword with both hands down towards Sigma's head, the thief was able to easily catch the blade in his parrying dagger's hilt, deflecting the blow. Sadly, the blade was too thick for Sigma to try and break with the dagger and the man was holding onto hit with too much strength to be disarmed easily. His attack now failed, Sigma closed the distance before going in to stab with his main sword, a small killing edge, to be exact. This was actually the first time he was using it in a real fight. The brigand took a step away to avoi any attack to the vital organs, but Sigma still left a nice cut on the side of his ribcage. He was surprised to see how easily the blade went through the leather and into the skin. Guess this sword really was meant for killing. Though that didn't mean much since he hadn't actually done ny significant damage.
Probably fueled by anger, the bandit tried to swing in reply to Sigma's attack but he wasn't quick enough since he was already diving out of the way and transitioning into a roll. As he go back on his feet, he quickly got closer to the girl he was trying to save. Well... moreso help out since she seemed to be handling her side pretty well in fact. Turning around to keep the injured bandit in his sights, he said something to the black haired woman:
"Well, seems like you can handle yourself pretty well. Leave this one to me and I'll keep him off your back, deal?

The bandit carrying a great-sword could not seem to get a hit in on the lanky one. He even managed to graze him. It was all because of that little trick weapon he carried, of that the bandit convinced himself. The thief may have managed to stop one attack, but he could not break his blade. How would he fair against a flurry of strikes? Or even better...
"Oh yes, I can handle this one, he is rough, coarse, and irritating. He has no ability about him and is just swinging the axe around as a child throwing a tantrum. I greatly appreciate the assistance though!" Nightingale's voice was light as someone enjoying games on a Spring day, as though there were an undercut giggle hidden in her voice. "But let us save the chat for after, hmm?" She immediately sprang forward toward her opponent, seemingly abandoning all sense of self preservation.
The bandit with the great sword did not fancy having his blade caught again and instead grabbed him blade and brought down the backside intent on crushing his skull with the pommel. Effective or not, a bandit was a bandit, and he was more suited to smashing than deft blade work.
The girl moved quickly, as one with years of training might. He had heard of men that could kill with fists just as well as with blades but could she really be that talented? No, she was a tiny girl! With a swing of his axe he moved in with a fist as well. Nightingale expertly evaded the axe but was taken off guard by the fist. Oh. Thump!

Sigma was pretty surprised to see her talking as if everything was dandy... Actually, her confidence was quite disturbing, was she really that good fighting with only her fists? After Jalid, Sigma didn't expect to meet another pugilist so quickly. Seeing dash off towards her opponent, Sigma turned his head to face the swordsman. Let's just say he had decided to... use unorthodox fighting techniques. Has he rushed towards him to hit him with the pommel of his blade, Sigma couldn't help but snicker at the man's complete lack of skill. "Can't even swing a blade, can you even call yourself a warrior?" The remark had obviously angered the bandit, his strike as easily telegraphed which made Sigma's sidestep to the right very easy to time as the pommel completely missed its target considering the lack of momentum the swing had. Taking this opportunit to teach him a much needed lesson in swordplay, Sigma turned clockwise as to charge some force into his following attack. He then went him for a reverse roundhouse kick... directly on the pommel. Hitting the sword straight on, he was able to make the sword slide on the bandit's hands. He dropped his longsword probably due to the now bleeding cuts on his palms. Shouting in pain, Sigma continued his little lesson: "Next time, maybe not holding your weapon by the sharp would be a better idea don,t you think?"
Going into what only could be summarized as some kind of berserker rage, the now disarmmed bandit ran towards Sigma, not even caring to pick up his sword. Surprisingly, he was actually able to shoulder tackle the thief which pushed him back a few feet. Falling to his knee, Sigma tried to catch his breath after that ridiculous show of strength. Getting up despite his body still needing to recuperate a bit, he got into a defensive stance, waiting for the enemy to come to him so he could finish him off quickly.

The bandit that had attacked Sigma had seen enough fights of varied conditions to come up with a few strategies but regrettably not smart enough to utilize them effectively, or properly for that matter. Sigma was far from armored and he himself had nothing to protect his hands, so when his pommel striking failed to connect as desired it came as little surprise. When the thief kicked the blade into his hands he was forced to drop it as his hands became slippery with blood and pain.
"Guah!" Clang, clatter clatter! His hands twitched in sudden agony. He would have difficulty carrying anything for a time but he refused to flee or be bested. Turning his size and more importantly weight to his advantage he rushed Sigma bowling into him knocking him back and winding him. "Hah!" He gloated with one sharp laugh followed by a hiss of pain.
Unarmed against a man with two blades, even if he connected the odds of getting stuck were too great for his liking. "Cheeky little crap!" He bellowed rushing in and throwing a small sphere. It landed at Sigma's feet and exploded into black smoke. It was mixed with particles to blind a foe with irritants just as much as the obscuring fog. The bandit moved in to bring his foe down banking on this moment. If he could get him he planned to beat him until his face cracked and caved beneath his fists.
Nightingale was tossed right off her feet under that assault from her opponent. Falling backwards she broke her fall and immediately rolled into a standing pose. Right then. She rubbed her chin tentatively. "Well that wasn't very nice of ya. I'm sure that will take a hit to my market value, hmm?" She teased and taunted.
Maybe this girl was not worth the money, but breaking her mind and attitude, that was a reward all of its own. "There is plenty more where that came from girly!"
"Oh good, I was afraid that was the best you had. Maybe I should take you seriously then?" She already was, but if she could goad him into foolish actions then all the better. PsssssssTOOF! A shrill pitched sound caught her attention as suddenly something behind her exploded. A smoke bomb burst from the other bandit. Seemed he was fighting dirty.
"Pay attention to yourself bitch!" Her opponent suddenly came in swinging. Barely evading an early grave she moved to his rear as the bandit hurried right past her for Sigma. They planned to double team!
"Move kid!" If he remembered her calling him kid after this was over he would probably have words considering how young she looked but right now, he needed to move! She chased after the bandit but she was unable to intercept someone with the momentum already!

Even if he had just been tackled, Sigma still felt in control of the battle considering he was the only one armed. He raised his blades up a bit more, waiting for the man to either run away or charge. Surprisingly enough he charged towards him! However the small projectile he chucked towards him told Sigma he wasn't going to like this. Grabbing his bandanna instinctively, he pulled it down to cover his face, in particular his eyes. Not only that, but as the plume of smoke rose, he heard the other bandit running in his direction. Okay, things were not looking good... not good at all. Turning around, he ran blindly until the air around him felt safe the breath he see through. Being now a few meters from the road and nearing the forest, he decided to continue running, heading for the nearest tree. Putting his dagger and his shorsword away in their respective sheaths, he now had his hands free to grab unto the lowest branch and pull himself as his ennemies were still going towards him. Nearily getting hit by an axe swing, Sigma decided to climb the tree a bit higher, thank god his light weight made him an excellent climber.
Looking down on the two men, he wondered if the girl would simply tske this opportunity to run... Honestly, he wouldn't blame her, fighting one on two was extremely difficult. Jumping to the closest tree, he almost had lsot his balance there for a second but quickly grabbed onto the branches to blance himself. Falling into the hands of those two would most likely result in a painful death. Waiting to see if they climb to reach him or perhaps another stupid idea, he simply stood there around five meters off the ground, waiting to see what would happen next.
"I can do this all day pals, no way you'll be able to catch me, not with how slow you are...

Hah! They had the thief on the ropes! Perfect! All they needed to do was double team him and they would end him quickly! Wait... where the hell did he go? How did he? Up in a tree!? But they were right on him! Now he was all the way up in a tree!? The two bandits shared a brief look that spoke to their mutual bewilderment at this development before formulating a new plan.
The unarmed bandit turned to face off with the girl, he ought to capture her quickly. Wait, she grabbed his sword! "Hey! Give that back! Don't hurt yourself now! He was not inherently afraid of a small girl but something about being unarmed and the way she carried his great sword in a single hand really changed the mood.
Meanwhile the one with the axe began to do what he thought would be the most sensible method to get the thief down from his perch. Hack! Thwack! "Come down little birdy! Momma is kicking you out of the tree! Its fly or die time!"
Nightingale hoisted the man's great sword onto her shoulder. She had maybe one or two good swings out of this before it broke on her. Her grip on the handle was already straining it, then again it was a wooden handle wrapped in strips of leather, not the most sturdy of things already. "I gave you a chance to leave, BUT, you choose to stay and fight. You threaten to capture me and kill him? I laugh in your face!" She faced off with the unarmed bandit circling him cautiously. He would not be rushing her under these circumstances, so she should focus on the armed bandit.

Finally... One of the two men had turned his attention back to the mysterious young lady. Now it seemed like she wielded his greatsword without any problems despite her petite frame. Sigma would definitely have some questions after this... But anyways, he had bigger fish to fry right now. He was surprised to see the bandit was actually trying to cut down the tree with his axe. Seriously, that was probably the dumbest thing he had saw... Does he simply not realise Sigma could simply jump to the next tree or did he really believe in his ability to cut down every tree in this forest? Having pity for the bandit with jam in his head instead of a brain, he decided to end it quickly, prefering to save the air that the axeman he was wasting.
"Aren't you going to be sad if I leave the family nest though?" he said with a sarcastic tone, looking around for some kind of thin branch he could grab onto. The sounds of the axe hitting the trunk were getting more worrisome as Sigma finally found a nice long and thin branch he could softly get down with. Here goes nothing I guess... Waiting for the man to look down, Sigma went for it by jumping off and grabbing a hold of the branch. As he was lowered for a few instants before the branch broke, Sigma had been able to direct himself so he would fall right on top of him. Raising one his leg, he kept the other straight and contracted to give the bandit a massive kick to the head. Luckily, his aim was true as he brought the man down under his feet. As he tried to remove him by swinging his axe, Sigma decided to go in this time and catch the axe in the parrying dagger's guard. Being on the ground face down meant he couldn't really get much strength in his swing so catching the blade was easy. It only took an instant for his longer sword, his trusty kodachi, to go in and cut deeply under his armpit, hitting the brachial artery cleanly. Blood instantly started to spew out as the bandit realised it would take moments for him to bleed out. Jumping away, Sigma went into a defensive stance, deciding to wait it out until he'd have no energy to stand. "Learn the weakspots, a lot more useful than using brute strength."

Boomf! It came out of the sky and into the bandit's eye blinding him and threatening to render him unconscious. He hit the earth roughly as a tall man slammed his body onto him from the top of a ten foot tree. Perhaps foolishly, and perhaps within reason, it was a strategy he did not once consider, but there it was and he paid the price for it.
From the ground he flailed his axe about in effort to kill the man or at least get him off of him. It did not work. The bandit didn't exactly know what was happening but he received a sharp kick to the noggin and then another in his arm. The biting wound was one that left him dumbstruck. The bandit could feel it in his core. This was a life ending blow.
So much for that original plan. The boy was quite the scrapper, even with his scrawny build by comparison he put the man in submission, and down for good with that little cut. Good job mysterious stranger. "Well, let me be honest with you bandit buddy. I am not very good with a sword, so..." She held the blade in two hands and brought it down to her knee snapping it in the center. "There, no more sword and no more pal. Last chance to run or you'll end up like him."
The bandit looked to his bleeding hands and his fallen comrade. "To hell with you! I'm oughta here!" The bandit began to run and Nightingale let him. "You're in Sharktooth's playground after all! He won't take kindly to this!"

The bandit didn't try to attack Sigma... Hmm, sometimes people could go into a frenzy when they realise their fate has been sealed, a way to try and regain some control in a strange way. This man however, seemed to be coming to terms with it. Holding his shoulder, all he could do was stay there on his knees, as his blood continued to pour and stain his tunic. Sigma almost started to feel a bit of respect for his opponent, not many could handle the fact they were dying with such dignity. Walking slowly towards the man as a drop of blood formed itself on the sharp tip of his curved blade, Sigma solemnly looked the bandit in the eyes, waiting for his answer. No words were needed in this situation, both of them knew what had to happen. Sigma never considered himself evil, so finishing off his enemy was the noblest thing he could right now sadly. The axe wielder lowered his head and closed his eyes, understanding what th thief was about to do. Putting back his dagger in its scabbard, Sigma tightened his grip with both of his hands on the kodachi as he got in position. His death was clean and without suffering.
As he finished wiping off the blade to then turn around towards the girl, he noticed that the other bandit had decided to run away, probably a wise decision. After all, the young lady did just break the sw- WAIT WHAT!?!?! Sigma was utterly shocked when he realised that a petite young woman was able to litteraly snap a greatsword in half with only her knee and arms. He hadn't even payed attention to whatever the bandit was saying as he ran off, mostly being awestruck by the ridiculous implications that comes with the fact the she could break swords cleanly in two. At least, he didn't feel scared, consideringit waspretty obvious that she appreciated his help in the fight. Jogging towards her to better see the sword, Sigma stared blankly for a few moments before looking at her directly. The look in his eyes were priceless now that the adrenaline had fallen a bit and only pure and utter confusion remained.
"How the bloody hell did you even manage to bend that thing, let alone snap it in two!?!? I think I can say now that you sure as hell didn't need my help!

Nightingale let the man go, probably a bad idea, but she was a woman of her word and off he went. Maybe if they sent 'Sharktooth' what a ridiculous name, they weren't even on the coast, at her she could remove a stain on the world. As the thief ran up to her she lazily tossed the hilt aside and turned to face him now.
Oh gosh! Please stop staring! I know I am pretty and you probably want me but please stop staring! Oh! You are concerned with me cracking a sword! I can deal with that much better. "Well, I appreciate you thinking I am so great but anyone can break a poorly made sword if you know where to hit it." Well, even a well made one too but that is not the point.
She also needed to calm him down, maybe teach him the life skill to break blade for himself. Make him see that even he can do it and he should stop looking at her under such scrutiny. She was a manakete after all, sure she was stronger but not like a dragon. She hmm'd to herself a moment as she thought over her options. "Well, I doubt you want me to show you with one of your blades but I can teach you?" Oh great, this would imply sticking with someone a while longer. Perhaps just explaining it can get him off her back.
"So, I don't know how much you know about forging but a good blade can be flexible but strong. His blade was too brittle and the center was the perfect place for leeway and just like that it broke under pressure." She shrugged like it was common knowledge. A mix of learning to fight barehanded and equal time in a forge comes in handy.

Alright, this girl was DEFINITLY one of the strangest girl he had met. I mean, who talks about snapping a sword like it was a thing people did regularly? Sigma had trouble just thinking about a girl her size snapping that sword in two, poor craftsmanship or not, there was no way a person that size could do that with no trouble. Maybe she had had some kind of special training? After seeing that man Jalid do what he did, Sigma did start believing more in the power of the human body.
Seeing she was getting a bit ahead of herself with how she was starting to give hi ma crash course in weapon forging, SIgma had to stop her in her track: " Woah woah, I appreciate it but I'm not looking to learn about blacksmithing, well at least not now. Let's just drop the sword breaking thing for now. The man seemed to have said something which does not bode well... Who is this Sharktooth he mentionned? I'd be bad if he was currently going to get reinforcements... Looking around, Sigma started biting the tip of his thumb as he scouted the road quickly, wondering if he could have stopped the bandit, but alas he was gone. This isn't good, not good at all. I can't let myself become some bandit band's next quarry! Ugh, me and my big heart, trying to help people...
Coming back to face the girl, his face was one of worry. "I vote we get out of here right now. It's not in my bucket list to be mounted up on a tree and used as target practice..." Sigma had been able to defeat that bandit, but the moment he'd have to fight more than one at a time, he knew he was done for by that point. His element of surprise was also ruined now that one of their opponents had fled to inform his band, probably.

"Yup, alright, you said it yourself, we will go forward pretending that it NEVER happened." With a snap of her fingers Nightingale moved into a double point at the thief. Nightingale was glad to see him brush off what she did. It was always good to move right past difficult things in favor for... something more difficult. Ugh.
As he asked who Sharktooth was she just shrugged nonchalantly. "He sounds like a real try hard. Like he wants to be feared to feel like a real man, and you're falling right into that trap. Calm down kido." She was chill as a cucumber about it. "Before I came up this road the locals were telling me he is some local bandit leader. A real sore loser with a big axe and attitude." She shrugged again. "I don't know. I've seen way too much to let that scare me and I have places to be up this road so I can't let him scare me off." She looked at the very treeline Sigma had hidden in. "Once we go higher though there will be no trees so hiding is going to be out of the question." She put her hand to her chin contemplatively.
When she saw his face full of fear she puffed her cheeks and held her breath a moment before exhaling into a long and drawn out "Fiiiine. We can go back to the town. Maybe we can hire an escort or something. But... why are you coming up this way?" She asked only now really questioning his presence.
