Name: Oswald
Class: Thief
Age: 20
Born in: Ilia
Appearance: Oswald is a mousy and slim young man with a somewhat androgynous appearance. He doesn't quite tower over most, but he still tries to keep upright. Oswald has lightened skin and shortened brown hair with a pair of green eyes and freckles along the bridge of his nose. He has an average physique for someone his age, fit enough though not exactly muscled. He also happens to have some faded scarring across his body, relics of his longtime dedication to thievery. He often will wear whatever is comfortable enough, though he does try to clean up whenever he needs to. Oswald often carries around some food to chew on, a nice bit of nourishment when he's busy with his work.
Personality: Oswald is a rather unusual individual for his age, the sort of thief that tends to unnerve others. At first impression, he's a rather gentle and kind person. He makes it his absolute business to help and protect others when he can. Oswald tends to go out of his way to try and be a social person, even when he'd rather not. Oswald's approachable attitude and careful composure helps to keep himself in check through the daily pressures of life. Deep down, he holds a fear of being alone, so he'll try to surround himself with others (even if they don't hold the same friendly sentiment).
Of course, this all changes when there's injustice presented to him, as many people can attest. In the middle of the battlefield, Oswald becomes a clever and calculated fighter, slaying or escaping from his enemies with cunning moves and a wicked smile. He's rather indulgent towards the thrill of the hunt, seeking and all opportunities to steal a fine piece of treasure with his skill and his own two hands. Oswald is an organized and obsessive person, always trying to keep himself in control (both physically and mentally). While he isn't perfect in this regard, he is still a force to be reckoned with.
History: Adopted as an orphan by a priestess in a small town located in Ilia, Oswald had gone through a hard life. Placed in a church-run orphanage with other wayward children, he was the quiet one among them. This naturally led to years of bullying and isolation, but Oswald still had the teachings of the church to hold onto. His mind was filled with tales of good and evil, and of the Holy light that served as a weapon of peace. Oswald himself wanted to be a hero on this own terms, but he was just as quickly mocked by his peers. He never quite gave up on that dream, though, even as the years went by.
Oswald spent his days tending after the church and it's inhabitants, minding his own business. Of course, dreams of heroism would often distract him, getting him into trouble on occasion. The boy rarely after lashed out or fell into anger, but the constant picking on by the other kids didn't help. Time and again, he confided in the priestess, often telling her of his troubles. Every time, she gave Oswald all the advice and care she could give, protecting him and his distant dreams. In time, he would be taught of just what it took to become a fighter of faith.
At the age of sixteen, Oswald would find a friend in a new arrival to the orphanage, a young girl named Gail. She was a bit of a wild one, having a habit of stealing money and other items from unsuspecting folks. Despite this, Oswald came to be drawn to Gail and her life of thievery. In time, Gail came to teach a wide-eyes Oswald, himself hoping to use these stealthy skills for good. It took time, but Oswald rose to become more adept in his craft, gaining money to provide for the other children.
However, Oswald's life would change at the age of eighteen. A large band of bandits came to ravage his home, burning down the church and orphanage with it. Oswald and Gail managed to escape with their lives, but the priestess and the other children were not so lucky. Forced to flee, a new purpose began to form within him. He would travel across the land, doing whatever he could to survive in his harsh world. No treasure would ever be safe from him or his allies.
Over the next two years, Oswald would travel on his own, becoming a wanderer as he sought to help the poor in need. He and Gail had since gone their separate ways, Gail herself joining a band of other travelers. It was hard being on his own, but Oswald was determined to continue on. A sense of revenge began to form within him, something that came to clash with his focus. Still, the thief traveled on, seeking new treasures to hunt...
NPC fight: The bandit jumped down on Oswald, taking him by surprise as the blade of the axe grazed his shoulder. The young thief stumbled back, gritting his teeth instinctively as he quickly covered the wound with his hand. Oswald was stumbling back. trying to fight through the pain and bleeding. His gaze looked up to the bandit, just as the brute was about to charge towards him with a sadistic glee. Oswald gripped onto his knife, quickly running to dive in and slash at the bandit's legs.
The bandit stumbled onto the floor, Oswald crashing down with him. It wasn't the safest option to incapacitate someone, but the thief was running on adrenaline at the moment.
PC fight: "Well, this could've gone better," Oswald said, his hands raised as the warrior. raised his sword at him. "I can't imagine we can talk this out?," the swindler later asked. Evidently not, as the warrior began to swing his blade forward. Oswald quickly backed away, but not before the tip of the sword grazed his vest, leaving a mark. That was way too close for comfort, even for someone that deals with danger on a daily basis.
Oswald quickly drew his sword, but didn't wish to attack just yet. He wanted to try and slither his way out of this. "Just hold on a moment! I assure you, this isn't what it looks like!"
