Gar had fallen back to sleep on the floor of the store room. A man walked in to speak to him. “Err grubs up cap.” Gar grumbled below deck. “Im proud of you mate. Keep up the good work.” The cook chuckled heartily. “Ha no problem captain. Just make sure you eat something today. We need you on your game.” Gar nodded and slowly rose to his feet. It was time to get back on track.
Gar focused himself and walked up the steps to the main deck. It was bright, midday sun. He rose his forearm to cover his eyes. This part of the ocean wasn’t dangerous, typically. That said, Gar also wasn’t acquainted with the area.
The trip from Lycia to Bern was unfamiliar. It was a voyage that Gar had only done once before. Luckily, piracy and strong naval forces were currently focused on the west side of Elibe. Gar didn’t really need to be entirely on point.
He looked up to the crow's nest. Aeos had relieved a mate of their duties there. The berserker put his hands around his mouth. “Aeos, let’s get some food!” Before Gar could hear Aeos’ response, a crewmate spoke to him.
“Do you see that capn?” The crewmate pointed at a ship in the distance. Simple trading vessel, but they might have some good stuff on board.
“Aye.” Gar looked back up to the crow’s nest. Blatant piracy probably wasn't what Aeos wanted to see right now.
Gar wanted to make that vessel a target, but he decided against it. He looked back to his mate. “Let them be, keep this part of the sea clean for now. We don’t want to be arrested as soon as we dock in Bern do we?” The crewmate nodded and continued with his duties. Gar looked back up to the crow’s nest to see if Aeos was responding to the call for food.

Easy. The dragon in human guise mused to himself. He sat in the crows nest. Indian style. He tried to keep himself calm and really wanted to clear his thoughts. Yesterday was fun. And something he will keep near and dear to his heart long after Gar passes from this world. The dragon shook his head. He shouldn't be thinking about this sort of think while hung over and dehydrated. Water. He reached for his canteen and found it to be empty. Right.. I drank it earlier.
He let out a sigh and continued on with his meditation. He heard his name being called out from down below and opened an eye. He spied a ship on the horizon. Looked like a simple trading vessel. It bore no foul colors. He glanced down below to see Gar talking to a crew man. He turned his attention back to the distant trade ship. He could see it in such clear vivid detail. He could see everything in a strange clarity that he knew he shouldn't. There was a stinging sensation in his eyes and he rubbed his hand over them. Scaly hands again. Damn it. Again.
Aeos didn't like this. He didn't like this subconscious tapping into his own stone. He knew why it was happening. He was tired from the night before and his body wasn't quite right. This sometimes happened during times of stress or night after some intense physical labor. He had to be extra diligent in his meditation now. He needed to keep his mood calm. Breathe in. He couldn't run the risk of accidentally going dragon upon Gar's ship. No, he didn't want to do that again. He didn't want to doom Gar or his crew. And.. exhale..
This moment in tranquility was interrupted by the sounds of his stomach. Great.

Gar exhaled while he looked at the crow's nest. No response. He looked away. Nayru once spent time in that same place. Maybe it was a coincidence. Maybe Dragons liked their high places. Or perhaps they liked places where they could hide. Hard to hide on my ship huh? June didn't respond. Gar reached toward his back, only to realize he had left his axe behind a night ago. He would have to check in with the spirit soon.
Gar shook his head and laughed at himself as he moved below deck. He greeted the cook and asked for a plate of grub. Since they had recently left the port it was still quite fresh. It looked like hearty food. The plate was dominated by carrots and potatoes, augmented by chicken skewers. Gar complimented the crew's efforts. It looked quite appealing, if only Gar could stomach food right now. The captain filled a flask with fresh water and placed it at his hip.
He carefully brought the plate to the main deck. Then he climbed the ladder to the main mast with one hand, it reminded him of the time he had climbed up with a dislocated shoulder. Both his arms worked this time, he was just balancing a plate with his other hand.
Gar looked into the crow's nest to see Aeos meditating. He placed the plate down and the unlatched the flask of water from his hip. " No sleeping on the job, right mate?" Gar laughed lightly. He was concerned that he might interrupting Aeos' alone time. But things had to get done. Gar placed the flask of water next to the plate. "Take your time but try to eat up. I'm not entirely familiar with this part of the sea. We might need your eyes."

Keep it together. He muttered to himself. Aeos did his best to control his breathing and ignore the rumble in his belly. In. He took another deep breath in. He took in the scents of everything. The wood of the boat. The iron of the various tools. The salty sea air. Out. He exhaled. His ears felt prickly and his eyes felt dry. He could hear a soft rhythmic tapping of feet touching wood, a tell tale sign that someone was coming up the ladder and into his domain. He rubbed his hand over his face and quickly checked himself. He couldn't feel any obvious dragon features. He pulled his hood up, just in case it was someone else that wasn't Gar. But, his fears were quickly dissipated, at the sound of Gar's voice. The dragon turned around to see his friend just to make sure it was just him. Gar, his friend, and the savior of his stomach. Aeos looked at the plate of food and water flask.
"I wasn't sleeping. Just.. meditating." He replied.
"Sorry, I didn't... check in with you. But, I need to keep away from people for a bit." He spoke. And found it difficult to keep it all together. He could feel his control over his more human form slipping. The scaley bits were starting to appear on his skin and his eyes took a more lizard like appearance. Damn it all.
"This.. has been happening all morning." He held up both his hands. One hand appeared human in all things and the other was morphed into a claw like state.
"It's infuriating! His voice was starting to slip in between it's normal one to the harsher one his fully half shifted form would take. He shook his head, turned away from Gar, and took another deep breath. Out. He sat there silently as the dragon features slowly disappeared. The dragon let out a large sigh. He then grabbed one of the chicken skewers and pulled the meat from the wood. Just eat the food. Relax. Breathe.
"Thank you for delivering breakfast."

Gar tilted his head. Apparently Aeos had other hangover concerns over the typical affair. “I see.” As Aeos explained the situation Gar nodded. His eyes looked between Aeos’ talon hand and his finger hand. He recognized the potential danger if Aeos were to fully transform on his ship. At the very least, the ship would sustain some serious damage. Still, he remained calm. Gar had seen Aeos in his dragon form before and he seemed to be far from that point. “Try not to worry mate. Just stay posted up here until things settle down.” There were other concerns of people finding out about Aeos’ draconic nature. So Gar agreed it was for the best that Aeos remain isolated for the moment.
“Aye, Enjoy the fresh food. Knowing this crew, it won’t last long.” The crew contained a lot of big guys who liked to eat. Birds of a feather, I guess.
"Alright, let me know when you're feeling better." The berserker then made his descent back to the deck of his ship. Gar hopped down from several rungs up the ladder. His legs absorbed the impact with the deck as if it were nothing. He called out to his crew, no one in particular. “Let’s see if we can’t make record time to Bern. We have a festival to partake in and I got a tournament to win. Hahar.” Gar talked big, but if he were being more truthful with himself, he wasn’t in a fighting condition at the moment. He had fought hungover before, but it was far from him at his strongest. Surely, he would be ready by the time they reached Bern though.

"Aye. I'll let you know once I'm better." If I'm better. He spoke in between meaty bites of food. He wasn't even sure what sort of food he was eating. His whole head didn't feel like it was working right. He could smell things for miles around him but couldn't figure out what this food tasted like. He just knew it was meat. And it wasn't poisonous. Probably. Gar wouldn't poison him! Why was he even thinking that?
He waited for Gar to leave him on his roost. Why didn't he stay? We could have talked. We could have.. The dragon closed his eyes and clenched his sharp pointy teeth. Pain. Why pain? He clenched his fists and opened his eyes again. His hand was back to normal, back to that of a regular human hand. The dragon took another deep breath and downed another piece of meat off the skewer. He then picked up the plate of food and quietly shoveled handfuls of fresh food into his face. He set the empty plate aside and leaned back into the mast of the ship. He turned his gaze skywards and let out a large sigh. He rubbed the crumbs off his face and that it was thick and scaley. Great. Just great. He could feel the anger bubbling back up again. Why?
Breathe.
In.... Out... In... Out...
Slowly. The features in his face returned.
We shouldn't be here. [/font]The little voice in his head spoke. The voice in his head that he thought he had vanquished back in the Western Isles. The voice in his head that wants him to run away at the slightest provocation. The voice in his head that had guided him and led him down the path of both survival and cowardice. The dragon ignored it and kept focus on his breathing, until, he fell asleep.

OOC: I'm going to skip to the festival, before the tournament. I hope thats alright.
"We've docked. Welcome to Bern mates! Let's celebrate uhhh their independence or whatever happened here." Gar was on the opposite side of the continent from what he used to. "Point is, have a good time and don't start trouble. We have enough enemies as it is." Gar chuckled as his crew departed the ship. He looked toward the village. He could hear the faint pounding of drums even freo here. A shallow hum of people chatting accompanied it. The noise gave him a feeling of excitement, merriment and exuberance. But above all that Gar felt proud. Another successful voyage in the books. Our longest trip yet. Gar inhaled and exhaled. He then descended from the navigators deck and walked into his quarters. He looked at his main weapon.
The spirits of June and Xig were still new to each other, sharing the same vessel. Gar was still learning what was going on inside the imposing axe. June was righteous. Xigshaw was arrogant. While Junzentaru wouldn't fight unless it was against evil, Xigshaw wanted to fight anything that could pose a challenge. I hope they come to an understanding. June's voice resonated in Gar's mind. Xig was silent, unless it spoke through June. The berserker wrapped June in cloth before latching it onto his back. Mila had claimed that this vessel, Xigshaw, was known by sight. He didn't want anyone to recognize it. At least not before the tournament. Gar had to smile. The best fighters on this side of the continent are in for a surprise huh?
"Aeos!" Gar left his quarters shouting for his friend. He had a notable excitement in his step. "Aeos, our treasurer got us an inn down the way. We can wash up and see the festivities. If I recall you have to try their pie, right?"

The days passed. And Aeos quietly kept his distance away from the other crew members. He spent most of his nights up on the crows nest just trying to get a better handle of himself. Nights were the worst. As he would some times wake up and found himself partially covered in scales and sometimes his throat would be in pain. His breath would have a light green tint of mist to it whenever the pain in his throat was at it's worst. And then there were nights where his back would be killing him. Specifically in two spots just above the shoulder blade. He swore he could feel large nubs on his back and they would either be really itchy or really painful. And it just felt awful. During the day a vast majority of his issues would subside but he just looked awful. He did not neglect his duties to Gar's ship and his crew, but he just looked really tired doing it.
It took him about three weeks for him to fully realize what was happening. His power was growing. That toppled with what ever fears and regrets he had from his own trauma on a ship. It wasn't a good time to be Aeos. But, he coped with it as best he could until the day they finally returned to land. And Aeos was glad for that. In all his turmoil he had forgotten what they were here for. The festival in Bern! That meant food, fun, and festivities. And Gar was kind enough to remind him of pie. He had completely forgotten about his personal challenge with Euph over where to find the best apple pie in Bern was. Perhaps he should make a journey to see the big tin can while in Bern.
When Gar called him out, the dragon poked his head out from the sleeping quarters. And looked at Gar with with glee. An emotion he hadn't shown on the ship for quite a while.
"My Pie challenge! I'd forgotten all about it!" Aeos ducked back down into the sleeping quarters. He took a moment to gather his belongings. He hastily shuffled it all in his bag and put that bag on his back. He joined Gar outside and waited for the captain to give him the location of the inn.
"I'm dying to have some hot fresh meat."

Gar was happy to see Aeos so excited. If this were any indication, a trip to Bern really was a good idea. "Aye! Fresh food sounds great. Our reward for a successful voyage." It was true, salted foods could only go so far. And of course they got repetitive. Gar grabbed the rest of his gear and led the way to the inn. He maintained a slight pep in his step all the way. There was a high amount of foot traffic, but that was to be suspected during a festival. Eventually, they made their way to their destination. The berserker stood in front of the building.
"This is it!" It was a normal inn. There was nothing that stood out about it but it still seemed special somehow. Gar opened the door to see that the lobby was quite crowded. On the right, there were people eating and drinking at a pair of long tables. On the left was a staircase and a small line in front of a reception desk. A man in a chair behind the desk called out. "Hey you! In the blue coat. Over here! " Gar nodded but grumbled under his breath, loud enough so only Aeos could really hear him. " it's clearly turquoise." He smirked, it was nothing to be mad about. The berserker was simply being playful.
Gar made his way to the man in the chair. He held out a key. "Here ya go. Your guy already set you up with a room." Gar took the key from the man. The man then held out a second key toward Aeos. "And this one is yours. You're both on the third floor, end of the hall." Gar made his way up the stairs and down the hall. "Alright, I'm going to drop my things off and clean up a bit. Catch up with me when you're ready." He entered his room and set his gear down on the floor.

Ah yes! A city! Bern! Gods above he had forgotten how good it felt to be on dry land. Surrounded by people. The sights, smells, and sensations assaulted his senses. And he was smiling and grinning like a kid with sweets the whole way through. Even if the smells he was picking up from this place were always all pleasant. People weren't exactly the cleanest species on the planet. He wasn't exactly smelling fresh and clean either. But, after the months being out at sea with Gar's crew made him nose blind to his own possibly horrible scent. Gar led the way towards their inn. He noticed that he recognized absolutely nothing about this place. Either he had never been to this specific town in Bern before or he had forgotten ever being here due to the events out at sea. The dragon in human guise looked up at the building and found it to be very unassuming. There was a sign on it's door that read Inn and not much else. Great! That meant if he got lost and needed to ask for directions back he was doomed! Perfect!
The dragon smirked at Gar's response towards the inn keeper's comment about his blue coat. He was given his key and some direction towards his room.
"Aye, you should give your treasurer a bonus for snagging us a place to stay in all this commotion." He commented.
"I'll come find you once I am ready." He was trying very hard to hide his childish excitement. The dragon went up the stairs, down the hall, and up towards his room. He put the key in the lock. Turned it. And opened the door. He stepped into his room and closed the door. And he just stood there and admired it. A room. A real room! It felt like it had been forever since he was last in a room. Four walls with a door in one of them. No sharing. No bunks. No rocking. He couldn't help but jump for joy. He approached the bed with eager footsteps. Dropped his stuff on the floor. And promptly plopped himself face first into the straw and cloth bed.
He turned around until he was on his back and stared at the ceiling. We made it. He mused to himself. They made it. With out any full dragon mishaps. Without any pirate attacks. Without any dark magic raiding their ship. He was alive. Alive. He closed his eyes and reflected. He knew he would need to leave the comforts of the city once the festival ended. And he had an idea of where to go next. He knew the mountains of Bern connected towards other mountain ranges of other countries. He was going to travel the mountains and head back into Nabata. But, that would be after the festival. For now he needed to stick around and cheer Gar on. There was a tournament that was to happen somewhere around here. Right? Maybe. But, first, before he was to do any sort of merrymaking in this festival, he needed to take a quick nap. He let out a yawn, turned on his side, and drifted off to sleep.

Gar dove onto the mattress and landed with a solid thud. He recognized that the bed wasn’t as soft as he had anticipated, but it was still nice. It was very likely that he could fall asleep in this moment. Just for a quick nap. However, the captain had been sailing and working for some time now and he needed to clean up properly. He exhaled loudly before he convinced himself to stand back up and clean himself. The room was provided with water, washcloths and soap.
There was always a rejuvenating feeling of soap and warm water. He could’ve spent half the day rinsing the salt and sweat from his body. Gar stood and wiped his body dry with a towel. As he dried his face and neck, he could hear the sounds of people in the lobby. Needless to say, his curiosity was piqued. Gar put on some clean clothes and exited his room. Chances were that he wasn’t going to need his weapon today. Gar left the heavy weapon behind. He glanced quickly at Aeos’ door, wondering if he should knock. He said he’d catch up with me. Aeos’ll see me downstairs.
The captain retraced his path down the hallway and descended the stairs. He nodded toward the man in the chair and made his way through the small crowd. He sat at one of the long tables and started scanning the area to see who’s company he was sharing. From what he could tell, everyone was smiling, chatting and generally in a good mood. He felt someone nudge him from the side.
A man sitting to his right spoke to him with a grin. “Ello friend. Where you from?” Gar responded to the question. “ I guess that depends on who you ask. Hahar. ” He could say his parents were from Sacae. He grew up around Badon and now he took up residence on the western isles. “Come now, no need to be so mysterious. ” That seemed true enough. Everyone was celebrating after all. “Aye, I’m from the Isles.” The man looked interested. A group of two people across the table looked toward him as well. Gar questioned why the response required such a response.
The man spoke. “Is that so? You must be a sailor of some sort.” Gar simply nodded and smiled in an innocent manner. A lady across the table asked him a question. “I’m sure you have plenty of interesting stories you could tell us.” Gar nodded again and spoke. “Aye, would you like to hear one?” The group responded positively.
Gar signaled to the wait staff for a drink. He was going to tell a story for these people. They brought one, Gar took a sip and started speaking. “Hahar. Alright then. Imagine this. It was a bit ago. You’ve heard of that landmass Vinland right? Well, I had grown up at sea so I had heard all the stories. Sirens, Krakens, Mermaids, you know the typical tall tale. ” Gar took another sip and scanned the faces of the people at his table. They seemed engaged enough so he continued. He leaned in as if he were going to divulge some important information
“From what I saw none of those things exist there. Hahar. ” The group laughed. “ I did meet a couple of people that changed my life though. One of them it actually staying in this very inn. A good friend of mine. But the strangest thing I saw was a woman.” Gar let that statement linger for a moment before continuing. “ I recall watching her fight and thinking she was stronger than I could ever hope to be.”
Gar laughed again. “I mean she was half bear after all.”

He lay there for a while. Sleeping. Dreamless sleep. But, his body, while tired, was uncomfortable in it's current position. He rolled subconsciously in his bed and fell right off the edge. He hit the floor with a hard thud. He lay on the floor. Awake. Staring at the ceiling and debating whether or not he just continue his nap on the dusty floor. But, he knew he couldn't stay. He peeled himself off the floor and onto his feet. He dusted himself off. A bucket and washcloth were provided for him. He wasn't sure if that was there before. A quick sniff of himself assured him that he should probably wash up. Unfortunately, he lacked a clean set of clothes. A consequence of his minimalist lifestyle. The stuff in his pack consisted mostly of survival things. A blanket. An elixer. Some flint. And other miscellaneous objects. The ship wreck really set him back in a whole manner of things. He made a mental note to find a place to wash the clothes on his back now that they were in civilization.
He used the bucket of water and wash cloth to freshen himself up somewhat. He cleaned his face, chest, and underarms. Then wrung out the dirty contents into an empty bucket on the floor. He wished this room had a mirror of some sort. He wasn't sure how disheveled he looked. The dragon in human guise shrugged. He smoothed out the kinks in his clothing as best he could. He used the water and cloth to wash out his hair. Wrung and dried it as well as he could. Finger combed until it was sort of decent. He took a moment to use a dry cloth to polish off his dragon stone. The other half of himself that was in there, eerily silent. The two half's of himself had been fighting, through out the sea voyage, for dominance over their appearance in the outside world. To the point where Aeos couldn't sometimes tell whether or not his dragon half was showing. The Nabatan quietly put the necklace holding his stone back on and hid it under his shirt.
"Nothing feels out of place." He examined himself. He felt no scales on his body. No horns on his head. No pointy teeth. No weird nubs on his back. And no creepy claw things on his hands. After deeming himself to be fully human looking, he decided to go back down stairs. The dragon grabbed the essentials of his stuff and left the room. Gar was probably waiting for him.
Downstairs, he saw Gar. Entertaining a small crowd of people with stories of his adventures. He managed to hear a little bit about which adventure it was. Considering that he mentioned a woman who was half bear, he knew it was Vinland. Our first meeting. Aeos approached Gar casually. But, got blocked by a few patrons leaving. Aeos took this small distraction to order some mead from the bar. He paid for his frothy mug. Then made his way towards his sailor friend. Finally, he managed to make his way to the empty seat next to him. Aeos put the frothy mug down on the table and took a seat next to his friend.

The exciting atmosphere was spilling into Gar. It was a nice group of people, celebrating their freedom. It all resonated with the captain. He couldn’t help but smile as he spoke about his tall tales. The pirate captain exaggerated here and there in order to keep people entertained.
“Big man huh… How well do you actually fight?” The lady wiped her mouth after drinking a gulp of mead. Gar tilted his head as he tried to get a read on the woman.
“Let’s hope you’ll never need to know. Hahar.” Gar took a gulp of his drink, hoping to keep things civil. "Im planning on joining the tournament if you’re really curious.” Gar shot his eyes at the lady that asked the question. She replied in turn. “We’ll be there. I hear our very own Devilslayer will be there as well.” Gar raised an eyebrow at the name, before shrugging it off. He caught sight of Aeos making his way over to the group. Devilslaver? What a title..
“And would you look at this?” Gar stood and placed the crook of his elbow around the back of Aeos’ neck. “This is the very man that accompanied me in Vinland.” Gar chuckled. “Not many have the same type of adventurous spirit. He certainly has more stories than I do.” The captain sat back down at the table.
Gar felt like he had been talking too much. “Aeos, do you want to give us a quick tale about some of the mates you’ve met on your travels?” Gar too, was curious about hearing Aeos' tales.

Aeos let the air of the bar atmosphere take over. He was calm. Happy. The drink was gently lifting his spirits. And when Gar caught a hold of him he felt even better. It looked as if Gar was busy entertaining the group of patrons with his stories. And while Aeos felt better, he might have looked a bit like a mess. He didn't have much time to think of a response so he was just there for a moment with his bit of a goofy grin. Yes, this man had plenty of adventurous spirit. Plenty of dangerous, deadly, and hilarious stories that would make him seem like he walked straight out of a myth.
Aeos took a long swig of his drink as his mind clicked with what sort of story he should tell. Of what sort of adventure that would.. surely spark the imaginations of the other drunken patrons. He knew he couldn't tell the story of him getting lost in Ilia and killing a desperate wyvern out of spite. That.. wouldn't bode well considering where he was. So he decided to talk about his first few adventure here in Bern. How he met Euphemious! Of course he had to remember to keep Euph's name.. hidden since he had enemies.
"I've been traveling a long time. I've got plenty of stories about Bern. I suppose I should start with one of the first ones. Have I ever told you the story about the pie challenge?" He asked, with a bit of a sheepish grin. The story started out slow, how he met a knight of Bern, clad in heavy armor who hated him at first.
"I was a funny foreigner who accidentally caused a substantial amount of property damage with my dumbassery." Falling out of the sky as a full dragon would do that. The story picked up as, they struck up a friendship over a conversation about pie's and ended up saving a town from a group of raiders. He spoke about how he beat back a bandit with nothing more than his fists, feet, and a frying pan. His retelling of the story was amusing, since he was a scrawnier thing back then.
"Fought those bandits with nothing more than my fist, feet, and a frying pan." He made a motion with his arms like he would the pan. And almost, lost his drink in the process.
"The knight was the one who gave me the challenge to eat an apple pie at every city. Said it tastes different everywhere but the ones from the capital were the best. Lucerne's been my favorite so far." He took a sip of his drink and finished his mug.
"Hey how about we tell them about the desert and the twister? Or perhaps that village of the undead?" He spoke to Gar.
