Alphonz started to get irritated in the back of his mind. Why is she still acting like that? I'm said I'm sorry! I'm not being mean or anything! He felt kindof useless when he saw Lunie being a natural at this. The thief was being persuaded at every phrase! Are girls just good at that kind of stuff? Looking around the alley as the two were talking, Alphonz kindof felt out of place. He felt that if he started talking, the young thief would start shouting at him again, brandishing her dull kitchen knife at him. To think I would've probably taken out my lance if she had been a man... Did I do the right thing by going easy on her or should I have been the same as I am to any criminal?
Suddenly, he was surprised by Lunie nudging him. Apparently he had just been invited for dinner at lunie's house. Looking at her for a few seconds, eh then stumbled a bit in his words while saying: "O-oh. T-thanks Lunie..." he also felt a bit embarassed abotu being called "Sir Knight"... I'm not even sure if that's supposed to be a small joke or simply genuine respect. Eh, getting mad won't really do any good. Anyways, he didn't have time to think about it when he was asked if he still had any medical supplies to help the girl. Quickly foraging through his bag, he was saddened to realise he had used up all of his vulneraries to heal his wound. "Ah geez, even after this that bandit still finds a way to screw me over." looking at Lunie and her bandages, Alphonz as though that wouldn't be enough to cure the thief's injury. Feeling thath e should probably do something considering it WAS his fault, he walked over to the young girl. "You won't be going far with that injury... Hmm, alright. Let's go get you something to cure it before heading back to Lunie's... Also I should probably go get my armor at the workshop by now." Thinking about what to do, he realised that carrying her was probably the fastest way to get her some medical attention. Turning around and crouching, he offered a piggyback ride to the blue haired girl. "Come on, that way we'll be able to get you better sooner. Don't worry, like Lunie said, I won't be mean anymore, I promise."

Delia still eyed Alphonz with suspicion, but she didn’t react to his attention with fear. It was more as if she believed he was only being friendlier towards her because of the archer. She suspected he might even use that long weapon of his if not for the red-haired girl’s intervention. At least he didn’t seem to be the type that would actually murder her to get that bag back. For now, both of them acted as if this was all just water under the bridge, so to speak. Perhaps, he’d be true to his word even if only for the sake of his female friend. Maybe he would rough her up when she wasn’t paying attention. He was right though, she couldn’t stand on her ankle and she couldn’t just crawl.
There was a resolute sternness behind the young knight’s demeanor that shone through when he wasn’t fumbling through awkward thoughts and stumbling over his own tongue to speak. That was where Delia’s heart was divided. It meant Alphonz had military experience, or at least formal training of that nature. It was simply duty and nothing more, for someone like him to turn someone like her in for theft regardless of circumstance, yet she could see that he was divided on the matter a well. She would give him one chance and trust the archer to step in on her behalf if she was wrong. “I s-s’pose. D-dun try no f-funny stuff though.”
Selunae cheerfully smiled and assisted the young thief in getting situated on Alphonz’s back. “Don’cha worry, I’ll beat him up for ya if he does anything silly. We’ll get ya taken care of fer sure.” The huntress raised her fists and playfully tapped the recruit in the arm with them for emphasis. “Thanks, Alphy. Oh! Umm.. can I uh.. call you Alphy..?” She blushed nervously, the cute awkward inflection of her voice making it obvious that she had accidentally blurted his name out that way without thinking.

"Alley Oop!" Lifting the young girl was surprisingly easy compared to what Alphonz was expecting. She's probably underweight considering how she's been living. Let's try to be quick so she can eat her fill for once.
Chuckling a bit from the thief's concern, he said: "Don't worry, I'll be nice from now on." feeling Lunie punch him in the arm, he looked at her with a confused look for a bit. However, the confusion was quickly turned into embarassement when the girl called him Alphy... He hadn't ever really been given a nickname before so it felt a bit weird to hear at first, but as she asked him if she could call him that, Alphonz decided it wasn't so bad. "W-well I don't see any problem in it... Hehe... A-Alphy... sure. It sounds fine. Keep calling me that if you like." Deciding to start walking towards the nearest clinic, he opted for a brisk pace, not wanting to let the poor girl hurting for too long. Also he was still blushing so walking off was the only solution he could think of at the moment sadly.
As they were walking through the streets, they kept getting multiple strange looks from passerbys. Are people really that against the idea of helping out people in need? I mean... sure, I wasn't the nice guy earlier, but I wouldn't have been mean for no reason like these people... Wondering if people knew who the thief was, he hoped they wouldn't run into any trouble with the town guards and the girl's possible past crimes. But anyways, the group seemed to arrive to some kind of apothecary shop. Grabbing his coin pouch, he started to feel out the amount of coins inside of it, happy to see there was still plenty. Throwing the pouch at Lunie, he said: "I've got my hands full here so umm... Would you mind buying a vulnerary or two? After that I think we'll swing by the armory and finally go back to your place." Still embarassed in general about talking to Lunie, he kept looking around, not wanting to meet her gaze.

Delia was surprised at the vigor with which the young knight hoisted her onto his back. She immediately clutched her arms around him, worried she would go flying over his head and face first back into the street. The two were left awkwardly off balance for a second before Alphonz had steadied and began the less than arduous task of carrying the young rogue. She eased her grip and put her legs around his waist for added support, then just leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. She wasn’t about to admit it, but the silver recruit was already growing on her even though she’d been ready to fight him with all that she was so briefly before.
It was a relief that Alphonz wasn’t upset when Selunae accidentally called him Alphy. She was happier with that than she was with him accepting the nickname, simply because she thought he might yell at her. Giggling happily, she strolled alongside him oblivious to the assorted dirty looks and stares the three were receiving from the townsfolk and especially street vendors. Things like that often went unnoticed to her anyway unless it turned verbal, which it hadn’t at this point. It wasn’t going unnoticed to the thief and she remembered the reasons she’d given many of them for the disdain they showed towards her. She wasn’t the most successful of thieves, but it didn’t stop her from trying. She was much better at escaping than sneaking, and she had been so close to proving that today. Perhaps, just this once, it was a good thing she hadn’t escaped. Maybe.
The trip had been thankfully quiet, the huntress whistling something out of tune as they walked. It didn’t really sound like a song so much as random notes that didn’t quite fit together, but no one seemed to care and if they did, they didn’t say anything. That was just as well, since the huntress knew she was as musically gifted as a brick. Finally, Alphonz stopped in front of a strange stall, bizarre odors pervading the entire area surrounding it. Some of the aromas wafting out were bad, the rest were just plain awful. There were probably a few things that smelled pleasant in there, but it would be difficult to pick them out from the overwhelming presence of the other, less pleasing scents. Resisting the urge to plug her nose, the archer stepped forward as she caught the pouch of currency and browsed the goods displayed. The stall, twice as wide as the other vendors’, was overcrammed with various odds and ends that the huntress couldn’t hope to identify. Strange herbs and roots, unidentifiable fluids in vials of every color and consistency imaginable, all this shoved together in a manner that would make it impossible to find what you were looking for. Add to this, one clueless huntress gawking at the displayed goods while an old woman covered in wrinkles offered no input or feedback of any kind.
The old woman stoically stood unflinchingly as the girl peered hopelessly over the assortment, her face twisted into a permanent squinting frown from years of the expression. It was creepy, to say the least. Selunae glanced to Alphonz nervously, not sure what anything here was. “Uhhh.. which one is… I don’t even...” It was very confusing, the young archer wondered if even the old woman knew what half of this was. This was not a very comfortable shopping experience and Selunae wished Alphonz had found more conventional merchant for this. “So… uhh, we need a couple vulneraries for uhh...” Before the huntress finished, the wizened hag had already reached amidst the clutter of her stall and produced two vials of the familiar liquid. How, the huntress would never know.. or dare ask. In fact.. the only thing that really mattered, the girl thought as she payed the woman, was that they’d obtained what they came for and could leave this silent woman and her oddities and go on about their way. “Thanks, uhh I guess we’ll be going now.” As the three moved along from the stall, the woman still remained expressionless and silent. Selunae honestly wondered if she was related to Ito in any way, though he at least used his words to communicate and seemed to be improving on the emotion front as well.
“Soooooo…… Are you two boyfriend and girlfriend? Huh, are ya?” Delia blurted her question out of nowhere, disrupting the silence since no one else was talking. She seemed to take a good bit of pleasure in asking it, having picked up quickly on the awkward air between the recruit and the huntress.
“W-what?! I d-don’t umm.., I mean, he’s n-not uh..!” Selunae was flabbergasted and had no idea what to say, taken by surprise by the directness of the sudden question.

As Lunie looked back, Alphonz could only give a surprised glance at the selectino the old woman had. Well THIS is definitely out of my expertise field... I mean, a hunter probably knows more about herbology than a knight, no? He sadly doubted that, considering the fact the redhead couldn't even find the vulneraries. Looking at the old woman, Alphonz could've sworn that she quickly glanced at him, however her stoic appearance made him doubt that for some reason. Was he going crazy? Sighing, he just hoped that everything would be solved quickly. Readjusting the girl on his back, he grunted a bit while raising up a bit more so he could get a better grip on her. Making her fall now would quite litteraly add insult to injury...
"She's scary..." raising his head a bit, he could see that Delia was looking at the woman with a panicked look. Agreeing with her mentally, he slightly squeezed her thigh subconsciously, probably trying to comfort her. He then jumped a bit as the strange merchant quickly handed Lunie the vulneraries. Not wanting to stay there any longer, Alphonz followed his friend towards their next destination, the blacksmith.
Suddenly, Alphonz felt hiss entire being drained of blood as Delia probably said the worst thing to say after the whole adventure earlier. Luckily, he kept his grip on the thief, being able to at least still do that. Seeing that Lunie was also completely taken by surprise, the recruit simply followed in her footsteps.
"Y-Yeah! We're not like... UH. I mean- I don't like her UH WAIT NO! I MEAN... I DO LI-LIKE HER! No hold on! That's not what I meant either!" Feeling his face becoming beet red as he looked at Lunie, not sure how to put into words considering he wasn't even able to udnerstand in his head what he was feeling for her.
"I uh... She's a nice girl... and she's pretty... No hold on! It's not like that! I mean uh... Ummm... HEY! How about we go ger my armor, doesn't that sound like fun?!?!" quickly walking forward, he really hoped that this wouldn't get any weirder than it already has.

Delia had herself a fit of giggles at the expense of her new friends, though neither of them seemed to share in her amusement. It was overwhelming to the huntress’s sensibility to even entertain thoughts like this. She was divided on whether she even wanted to know the young knight’s thoughts, being as it were that she couldn’t decipher her own amidst the tempest her emotions created. It was like a train wreck. She didn’t want to listen, but she hung on every word he said, misspoke, and stumbled over, as if her future hung in the balance. Did he like her or not? He seemed to be flip-flopping from one end of the spectrum to the other without even pausing to breathe. Selunae, however, was the one breathlessly seeking whatever truth lurked within the cluster of Alphonz’s flustered explanations.
Oh gods, did he just call her pretty? He did. He really did! She had never considered herself to be pretty. Sure, she wasn’t hideous or anything, but people had always used words like energetic or mischievous to describe her in her circle of influence. Of course, she hadn’t grown up with anyone that could be fairly considered to be a peer either. Then, just like that, it was over and the subject was changed. The huntress was still stunned and the color remained in her cheeks all the same, but somehow she made her wobbly legs turn back to a solid form capable of walking. Delia still giggled over Alphonz’s shoulder like a chirping songbird perched on a limb, reveling in the chaos her question had stirred. Selunae stifled the dirty look she intended to give the young thief with a sigh, knowing that she would inadvertently make eye contact with the silver recruit if she turned to face the scoundrel. Instead, she added to the awkwardness with new round of silence. Going to pick up Alphonz’s armor sounded fun indeed.
“Aww c’mon, I was jes’ funnin’ around. I din’t mean to make ev’rything weird.” Delia’s apology held a tone of good humor to it, but she seemed sincere enough about it. “Wass the deal with the two’o’ya if yer not together all proper’n all?”
Selunae tried to calm herself with a slow breath without giving away that it was indeed necessary to do so and finally gave an answer to the blue-haired thief. “Really, we just met a few days ago. We fought some bandits together and got roughed up pretty bad, and that’s ‘bout it. I just happened to run into him again before you.. well.. ran into me. See? It’s not like some.. uhh.. fancy.. love story or anything....” It really did seem rather lackluster when she thought about it like this, so why did did his unwieldy compliment make her feel like she was walking on air?
In time, the trio reached the shop of the blacksmith where Alphonz had left his armor to be repaired. Unlike the surrounding area, the man ran his business inside a building rather than in the open streets. Thick smoke rose from an oversized round chimney in the roof, making it easy to pinpoint from a distance for anyone needing his services. As Alphonz approached the door, Selunae reached for his wrist to stop him. “I guess maybe you should just leave Delia out here while you get your armor. I’ll see to her leg while you get your stuff taken care of, ‘kay?”
After Delia was carefully lowered to a wooden bench near the shop and Alphonz was in the building, the huntress gave her one of the vulneraries. “Drink that, it’ll help with yer leg and make you feel better. You’ll prolly be able to walk on it. Can’t let you have Alphy all to yerself now can we? ..Don’t give me that look ya cheeky li’l thing, so I think he’s cute ‘kay? Don’t you dare tell him I said it. Oh.. blast! I still have his gold, I better give it back before he thinks that ya robbed him too. Wait here a sec!”
“Alright, go smooch your boyfriend.” Speaking in a whimsical tone, the younger girl made kissy faces to mock the huntress.
“He’s not my boyfriend!” Selunae offered a mock scowl before briskly dashing to the building and vanishing through the doorway. The moment the coast was clear, a gap-toothed man dressed rags of similar condition to the young rogue's slipped into view, silently but assuredly approaching Delia.
“Alphy..! Wait up, I still have your money!” The huntress barged suddenly in behind the knight as he approached the bearded smith. Taking a short breather, she reached the pouch of gold back to its owner, hopefully without making either of them look silly. She offered a sheepish grin for not remembering to give it back after purchasing the vulneraries. Well, it was probably Delia’s fault, too, for getting them worked up so much. “Sorry sorry.. so is your armor ready?”

ABORT MISSION, ABORT MISSION, THIS IS TOO MUCH. As his mind was racing, he heard the thief starting to apologise for making things probably as awkward as they could get. Afterwards, Lunie's comment about how they met put things into perspective into the young recruit's mind. Huh, we really don't know each other that much when I think about it... So why am I acting so flustered at every comment she makes?
Arriving at the blacksmith shop, Lunie stopped him as he was abotu to bring in Delia without even realising. "O-Oh right... Yeah good idea." Putting Delia down, he quickly made his way into the shop, thanking the world that now his heart could stop beating so fast. Feeling the typical heat of the forge, he slowly made his way to the center where an old man with a grey beard was tirelessly slamming away at at slab of red iron. Almost feeling intimidated at first, he only could make a small "uhh...." as the man turned around, looking somewhat happy to see the young lad.
"SIr Montlaur, eh? Back so soon already? You're lucky, your suit has just been repaired by yours truly. I must say, quite an incredible plate armor, I'm surprised that bandit was able to cleave right through it to be fair... Well no matter, it's now ready and is just as it was before. Though I did do as you requested and reinforce the shou-" his speech came to a halt as Lunie quite litteraly barged in, coinpurse in hand. Alphonz gave her a surprised look, he grabbed the purse, surprised he had forgotten it...
Looking back, he pointed at the suit on the workbench to answer Lunie's question. "Oh uh yeah! I-it's right over there, completed!"
The old man looked at the two of them, grinning a bit reminiscing of teen love... Going towards the table, he quickly tied up the greaves and arm guards together while simply handing the breastplate to the recruit. "Here, you can at least carry the other parts more easily, but you might as well just put on this for now." still being intimidated by his overall presence, he started strapping on the chest part of the armor relatively quickly. Being done after maybe a bit under half a minute, knowing how to put it on almost to the point of muscle memory.
Noticing that it almost felt brand new, Alphonz was quite pleased as he started to turn around, trying to look at every possible angle to make sure everything was in order. Happy with the result, he paid the blacksmith handsomely, resulting in him being extremely pleased, smiling at the both of them. "Well then, enjoy yourselves you two!"
Turning around to look at Lunie, well more so look in her general direction, still feeling a bit too embarassed to look straight in the eyes, he said: "So uh... What do you think? Does it look good?"

Giving awkward glances between the knight and blacksmith, Selunae did her best to avoid scrunching her nose at the smells coming from the forge. Quite frankly, this place stank. It was a secondary reason she hadn’t wanted to come inside. Delia was on the mend now, so it was probably okay to leave her alone to rest. After all, the poor waif did seem enthusiastic about the prospect of a proper meal, if nothing else. It was probably unlikely she’d give them any trouble, at least in the huntress’s naive eyes. Selunae was unaware of what was unfolding just outside. She hadn’t noticed the unsavory fellow shadowing them, waiting for the chance to catch the young thief alone. No, as usual the archer was rather oblivious to the danger she was flirting with.
Taking a look around, the huntress found all manner of farm tools and weapons in various stages of completion, from simple slabs of shaped iron to honed blades of steel. It was an impressive sight. At least some of the finished goods were. A fair number or armor sections were scattered around the shop as well, though they seemed to be useless in their current state, requiring other equipment to rig them together into complete set. It seemed that Alphonz’s armor was indeed ready, though, and it surprised the girl to see it in such a flawless state after the damage it had been subjected to during the ambush. She was truly astounded and amazed. It still needed that Alphonz touch, but she was sure that Alphy would be polishing it to a mirror sheen soon enough.
“Wow... is that.. the same armor that was busted up so bad from the bandits?” Her eyes sparkled with wonder as Alphonz donned the breastplate. Her expression was then clouded by thoughts for a moment before she replied to he knight’s question. “Oh.. yeah! It looks great, Alphy! Hmm.. I just got to thinkin’ though. Maybe we should go get Delia some new clothes before heading home. Those ragged things she’s got on stink ‘n all.” A warm smile brightened her face as she continued on. “I bet she’s real pretty all cleaned up. C’mon, let’s hurry!”
The huntress practically dragged Alphonz out of the smithy, oozing enthusiasm at the prospect of going shopping for clothes for the younger girl. That immediately ended when a cry of fear interrupted the pair the moment they stepped out the door. A man in dark rags was leading Delia away forcefully despite the thief’s efforts to resist.
“Hey! Let her go!” Springing into action immediately, Selunae rushed to her new friend’s aid. To the archer’s initial relief, the man did relent to her demand.
“L-Lunie..!” The young thief’s distress was clearly evident along with some degree of guilt for this new turn of events.
“Ah.. so yer the ones that done helped me li’l daughter Tessa out huh. Much obliged to ye, strangers. I apologize for any trouble she caused ye.” The man’s words were dubious at best, and clearly contradicted many of the things Delia had admitted earlier. The glare from the huntress made it clear that his words weren’t matching up so he decided to clarify a few things. “Ah, dun tell me. Lemme guess, she done been tellin’ her fibbin’s again? What’s she tell ye her name’s this time? Gail? Natasha? She so loves to tell her fibs and get pity and gifts from people. Dun worry, though, she’ll be gettin’ a right scoldin’ from her mother when we get home.” Feeling vindicated by his explanation, he began dragging the thief away by her wrist, the young girl still limping on her injured leg.
“Yer hurting me! S-stop!” Delia’s face was twisted from pain reflected in her tone as she protested the man’s attempt to lead her away.
“I don’t think so, she’s comin’ with us! Let her go.” This felt wrong to Selunae, whether this man was indeed her father or not, she wasn’t going to allow this to happen. Delia wasn’t following him of her own free will. That was plain to see.
“Girl, this is none of yer bizness so go on ‘bout yer way.” The man hadn’t had any patience for this interruption to begin with, but now that it was clear that these strangers intended to interfere on behalf of Delia, he needed to show his teeth and make sure they knew he was serious.
“Let. Her. Go. Now!” The archer had no interest in backing down, not when the safety of her new friend was at stake. Right or wrong, she trusted Delia more than this shady man. His actions certainly weren’t helping to convince her.
“Awright then, if yer lookin’ fer trouble then I’ll give it to ya!” If talking tough wasn’t going to persuade the interlopers to mind their own business, then maybe a blade would change their minds. Surely that would deter them. If not, well, he did know how to use it. Slowly unsheathing a medium length sword, the man clenched his teeth and regarded both the archer and knight with contempt.
“L-Lunie..! Alphy..!” Delia gave an alarmed glance to the two before being shoved away by her aggressor. She fell sprawling to the stone road, crying out from the pain in her ankle, and scrambled away from the man with tears in her eyes.
“Delia!” The archer was enraged by the man’s callous actions sending the defenseless girl hurtling to the hard, stony path. “I won’t let you get away with that!”

"Hmm yeah that's a good idea. Poor girl probably doesn't have much except for those clothes. A new set would be a nice gift." he decided to be polite and not mention the smell of her rags (although it was pretty awful, like carrying her was an ordeal for his nostrils.) "You know a place whe-Woah alright alright!" as he was being dragged off out of the smith's shop, he waved at the man while grabbing the rest of hsi equipment, thanking him. However the light tone of the situation quickly dropped as he reckognised a shout as being Delia's. Following Lunie, he noticed a man trying to drag her off, claiming to be the young girl's father.
As his story contradicted Delia's side of the story, Alphonz felt that out of the two, the young girl definitely seemed like the one less likely to lie. And even then, he had always been told to protect the women and children first by his father, so it was pretty obvious who he was going to side with. But seriously, why did today I feel it appropriate to not carry my spear with me, why today?!??! It would've been much simpler... However, things only seemed to get more difficult as he pulled out a sword before pushing Delia off unto the ground, making her cry in pain. Feeling absolutely livid at his actions, Alphonz stepped up. Pointing his thumb to his breastplate where a small symbol of his family's crest resided, he shouted loud enough for people to hear.
"Listen here you poor excuse of a human being. As knight of the Silver Vanguard of the Bernese Military and responsible for maintaining the law and wellbeing of the population, the fact you are mistreating who you claim to be your daughter makes this entirely my issue. NOW! Unless you think assaulting the next heir of the Montlaur family is a good idea, then go right ahead, we'll see who'll be the one hurting in the end." He gave the man the sternest look he could muster. At least thanks to his physical stature he could actually look somewhat menacing when he wanted to despite still having the face of a teen.
"Drop your sword right now and I'll consider not throwing you in the donjon for attacking a young defenseless girl. And you better make it quick, scum like you make me lose my patience."
Ok wow, it's been a WHILE since I've had to talk like that... Actually, I don't think I've ever even talked like that. If only the boy knew how powerful his subconscious's desire to show manliness in front of Lunie was.

As the pair of teens faced the scummy man, Delia continued to edge herself further away from him. Selunae felt bolder as Vaike Alphonz boldly addressed the sword-wielding knave “Enter the Vaike!”. She’d have felt even bolder if he had brandished that lance that seemed to fade into and out of existence at will on his back. The man challenging them didn’t seem quite so impressed with the young knight’s status. On the other hand, he saw an opportunity for profit. The heir of Montlaur family and Silver Vanguard? Probably get quite a haul for ransom. He could handle some brash kid and his little side-chick. No matter what prestigious group he belonged to, the rest of them weren’t here now. Still, something about the boy’s commanding tone put him on edge. Kid or not, he needed to be careful with this one. “Oi kid! Ya think some fancy name ‘n armor’s gunna get ya outta this? Ya better have the clout to back up dem words.”
In a smooth motion the archer slid the bow from her back and lined an arrow up for a shot. It wasn’t a difficult shot, but with Delia nearby, an errant arrow could find her as easily as this scumbag that claimed to be her father. Her morale had been strongly bolstered by the silver recruit, no matter how much the man opposing them disregarded him. Normally the huntress’s aim would have been rather shaky over any possibility of her arrow striking a friend or an innocent, however with her new-found confidence and the anger roiling inside her, her hands were fairly steady. She would prove to Alphy.. no.. Delia, yeah Delia, that she could stand up and be tough in a fight too. “I’m gonna give ya a chance to run. If ya don’t take it, well.. I’ll make ya wish my friend here hauled yer worthless hide in.”
The older thief actually seemed to consider the warning the huntress had given him. Just what were these two playing at, and how in the blasted hell had they turned his accomplice against him? This wasn’t funny anymore. Whatever, he refused to let this stand. The boy hadn’t even drawn his weapon yet, probably didn’t know how to use it anyway. “Shur ya can hit me with that toy bow of yers? When ya miss, this sword’ll cut that belly o’ yers right open, it will.”
Though the filthy man didn’t seem shaken by the threats levied at him by Alphonz and Selunae, the huntress was very much shaken by the ones hurled back. Tension was mounting, sweat beading on her forehead and her breaths becoming more shallow as she tried to hold it together. Her confidence was much more fragile with her inexperience. It must have shown on her face or in her eyes because he took a step forward. That simple move further bruised her morale. Alphonz was close enough to hear the difference in her breathing pattern, though the advancing man was not as of yet. Focusing on her anger, she managed to steel her nerves further and it was enough to halt the thug once more, though it wouldn’t take much to disrupt her focus again.

-Note- (As I wish to complete this thread and my partner hasn’t been on this year, nor has he expressed any interest in returning to this character, I will be wrapping this thread up as a Solo thread. Also, despite Alphonz’s glaive suddenly not existing on his person in the last post, he definitely had it on his back prior to it so I will assume it really was supposed to be there all along.) The two teens and the filthy thief stood at an uneasy impasse as the afternoon sun drew the evening ever closer. The threat of becoming a pincushion held the old cutpurse at bay but the inexperienced pair lacked the confidence to press him with a head-on attack. However, it was only a matter of time before Selunae’s resolve would dissolve away entirely, brave knight at her side or no. Even so, there was only so long she could hold her bow drawn before fatigue overtook her arms. It was neither of these that shattered the silence of this stand-off and set everyone in motion. It was a loud crack sounding. Delia, having recovered from being shoved to the ground earlier, had back-stepped onto large curved chunk of broken pottery. In a panic, the huntress sloppily released the arrow as the scumbag thief darted forward, sword extended to the side. The arrow sailed over the man’s shoulder, the shaft splintering on impact with a wall beyond Delia. Every ounce of confidence had drained from the archer in an instant, the girl turning heel to run immediately. Her adversary was much more swift though, managing to be upon her before her first step. It was only Alphonz’s glaive that held the sword’s blade from carving into her flesh. “Lunie!” Delia’s shrill voice called, nearly cracking from fear as she witnessed the older girl’s narrow escape. Using the distraction to try slipping by her intended kidnapper, she found his wiry hand clasping her shoulder before she could get by. “Oh ho! Y’ain’t goin’ nowhers ya scamp!” A grin spread across the man’s face despite clashing weapons with the silver knight apprentice. Alphonz brushed the blade aside easily but was forced to immediately block another swift strike. The two combatants strained against one another, the older thief slowly gaining the upper hand until he finally cursed loudly and broke his stance. Delia jerked herself free, having lodged her knife in the man’s leg. It didn’t penetrate as deep or cleanly as a proper weapon, but it was effective enough to turn the tide for a moment. “Ghh..! Ya.. slimy brat..!”With a grunt, Alphonz swatted the blade back and followed up with a blunt strike to the ruffian’s face with the other end of the his polearm. A fresh gout of blood trailed down from the thief's nose as he staggered back a step, barely steadying himself. Recognizing the opening to get Delia to safety, Selunae slipped the girl’s hand into her own and pulled her back from the fight. “Delia, are y’okay?”
“Yeh, think so.” The waif rubbed her nose. The filth and dirt on her face was smeared from wiping tears. “I’m gonna getcha outta here. Promise. ‘Kay?” The archer shot a quick glance back to Alphonz who was still holding the wounded thief at bay. “D’ya think ya can keep up with me on your own?” The young urchin took turns shifting her weight from one leg to the other before offering a single nod. “Good. Alphy! I’m gonna get help!”
“R-right..!” The embattled recruit responded, not taking his eyes off the man before him. The injury to the thief’s leg didn’t seem to have much impact on his sword arm. Alphonz still had his hands full, the longer reach of his glaive barely granting any advantage over the nimble sword of his opponent. There was no time to waste. The two girls rushed from the scene as the blacksmith stepped out to see what the ruckus was. That was the last Selunae saw of Alphonz before leaving for Sacae, glancing back over her shoulder before turning a corner. When she returned with help, neither the recruit nor the thief were anywhere to be found. Doubtlessly, the thief had fled and it would seem that her friend had pursued. With no trail to follow, the huntress had little choice but return home without him. The dinner ‘date’ would have to be postponed; she’d never given him directions to her house after all. Though she worried greatly, she was sure he was okay. Wherever he was, he was okay. He had to be. Had to. [END]
