Wyatt listened to the story with interest. People around him sure had interesting lives, he wished that he had such stories to share.
"Should have been born a boy eh? I don't agree with that. I mean, everyone seems to think that the only good warriors are boys, there is no way that's right. I mean, Lady Hanon was female, and she is believed the best archer in history!" He spoke with a nod. "I guess they'll only recognize you if you become legendary, but I suppose the same is true for guys too."
He tapped his axe on his shoulder absentmindedly. "I got my first short taste of fame, it comes and goes really quickly. You've shared a story, so I guess it's my turn."
He looked off into the horizon. It hadn't been long, but it felt like another lifetime. "I went to Laud to try and work as a blacksmith for the castle. They'd been mustering troops, so I figured it'd be a safe bet. I was supposed to start training there, but before I could we heard of a nearby town that had been attacked by bandits. Most of the Laus guards were watching the border, so a long cavalier was deployed, one I had gotten to know. Well, I decided to follow him, me and a few others. It was a brutal fight when we arrived at the town, but we managed to beat them back and then chase them back to their hideout up in the mountains. We fought them on the cliff side, and it was a vicious fight. I've had my fair share of brushes with death, I hope they'll become less common as I get better." He added with a sheepish grin.
"Yeah, after that we were on our way to Ostia when...we got attacked by a group of creatures...they looked like wolves, but all skinny and starved. Their skin was as tough as leather, and they foamed from their fangs. It was like something out of a nightmare."
He shuddered at the thought. "If you heard right...and stuff like that was at Ostia...I don't want to imagine..."

Aevian regarded Lady Hanon thoughtfully, as she looked up at the sunny sky and the leaves of the trees which blocked the light. Tapping her thigh softly, she slowly shrugged her shoulders. He was probably right, about that kind of fame that being a legend has the effect of making.
...they looked like wolves, but all skinny and starved. Their skin was as tough as leather, and they foamed from their fangs. It was like something out of a nightmare.
This again. She thought she knew what he was talking about, but it wasn't clicking quite then. A little further down the road though, looking at Wyatt as she slowly flexed her mouth, she was kind of troubled by monsters, things that do not exist. She wanted to say something, but could not.

The silence weighed on Wyatt, ok so that had been a little dark. But still, the silence was just unnerving. When he saw her mouth move silently, he regarded her curiously.
"You don't need to restrain yourself for me. I'll understand if you can't believe it, I'm not sure if I do myself. In fact I'd rather never find out, that'd mean whatever those things were are gone."
He ran his hand along the cloth that covered the cut on his forehead. "But I remember this cut, so they really were real...I wonder if Denzel and the others are ok..." He said, thinking aloud.

Aevian blinked a bit as she heard Wyatt speak up, and kind of didn't realize what she had been doing, brooding, that is, on the possibility of monsters. She quickly waved off his doubts, but took a firm look at him, as so he wouldn't mis-understand. She was running her gloved thumb over the blade of her sharpened axe, to which Wyatt had seen to the other day.
"No, I wasn't doubting for you, I don't think you'd have a reason to lie about something of a serious matter, you aren't the boy who cried wolf, afterall...but still, the occurrences of unheard, unseen monsters..that's troublesome.."
She paid a bit of attention to the scar, and noted it quietly with a nod. This all just really troubled her. Looking up into his eyes, she licked her lips a bit, feeling them dry out, but frowned a little.
"Your traveling companions? Tell me what you were doing with them again? I have a poor memory...or else those bandits kicked my ass hard enough to make me forget.."

Wyatt chuckled. "Oh after the whole issues with bandits in the mountain was resolved, we were hired to go deliver a message to Ostia from Laus. They were worried an official messenger would draw too much attention."
Ok, so that was a lie, but he couldn't very well just say that they were spies for the crown.
"There was quite a number of us....let's see..." He began counting on his fingers. "There was Denzel, a young Cavalier. Lilith, a shaman in training. Yaen, a Sacaen Swordsman we ran into in the town the bandit's had ransacked. Wein, a Lycian archer, he helped us out from the start. Aaron, a mage that we met on the cliff face, and also Malachi, an armored warrior that also showed up on the mountain side."
He stopped for a moment. "Wow, I guess there really were a lot of us..."

A smile broke out across her lips, and she began to laugh. She didn't know why exactly, but that was all pretty funny for her to take in. Bringing up a hand, she covered her mouth and tried to calm herself....well, she was calmed aright, by the pain in her side from where she took the final blow from Thrall. Wincing, she held her side where her clothes were stitched up from where the blade pierced.
"Wow...a lot of you to deliver a message...and what a ragtag group at that, the Cavalier and the Knight would have made you all stand out well enough, on their own. People tend to eye those in sets of armor, or fanciful clothes."
She knew this last part for truth, as she spoke much of herself. Humming gently, she took ease in her steps, looking over to Wyatt with a casual glance. "I guess I'm not just going to Ostia to see first hand, in a way, I guess I'm spying at what the Eturians are up to, but once I get there, I don't know exactly what I'll do...I haven't thought that far ahead yet...disrupt their activities a bit? I think that would be foolish on my own...guess I'll just watch.."

At the disrupt their activities part, Wyatt looked over with a smile.
"Oh I've heard enough bard tales to know what you mean by that, and it sounds like fun. I think my companions would be more then up for that if we could meet up with them. After all, we don't want them thinking Lycia is just a push over, it's time to push back! And a small group could do that much easier then an army!"
He was getting worked up now, clearly because of his youthful idealism. "Well you want to do it for your nation, I want to do it for mine. We share a common goal, so that sounds like a good basis right? We go there and try to slow them down any way we can?"
He was practically bursting with excitement. Who got to do a mission like this? What a story it would be!

Aevian grinned, feeling a bit cheeky now with his anticipation an excitement to work off of. The way Wyatt was acting, she couldn't help but share in the excitement, even though she knew it was all plentifully serious. Aevian gave another look at her side, and began to spin her axe in hand, after having fitted it out of the loop it hung on.
"Hahah...very true, Wyatt, very true...and with your friends, well, things would be much safer, in a sense.."
Her steps were much more brisk, feeling a new sense of innovation and sense of being alive. With Wyatt's friends, perhaps it was true, they could slow down the advance of the Army of Oppression and Murder. It would be fitting justice...though, still, Aevian wished that Bern's army was behind her.

OOC: To keep the topic from dragging and such, I will time skip to the evening on my NEXT post if you do not have anything you wish to do.
IC: "Tell me about it!" Wyatt responded. "I'm mean, I'm no coward, but I like having a few bastions of armor around me! Oh yeah, I forgot about Selk...he was my age, but really heavily armored, we usually fought in the same area, we supported each other really well."
He thought about it. "It's kind of funny how well people work together once they've fought enemies together. I think it's trusting someone to watch your back while they trust the same way."
He looked to her thoughtfully. "Didn't you feel anything like that back when we were fighting the bandits? I mean, I knew you had my back so I could focus on what was in front of me. It's like that."
If he was explaining it well, he had no idea. But it sounded good to him.

OOC: I would be very grateful for that.
IC: "Yes, I know exactly what you mean...I did feel the kinship...the trust shared between those who fight to accomplish the same goal."
Aevian smiled and laughed a little. She didn't so much enjoy the whole killing of people, despite that they were evil, but she did enjoy the fighting parts. Real fights were something that she had never experienced before that day, and well, now she had experienced them...though, there would be more...times were turbulent, like the five years past...Bern was an exhausted nation, tired of fighting...but at the time, she was only a teenager, and hadn't learnt to fight as well as she had now.
"Yes, Wyatt, I did feel it, it was...exhilierating...and very comforting to know you can have someone there you can depend on. I can depend on you later on, can't I?"
Though it was phrased as a question, it was more a statement than anything, though, he could answer. She gave a commanding look at him, almost beaming, as if knowing what his answer may have been prior to the question. She could trust him, and hopefully, he could trust her. She held nothing from him at the first of their meeting

"Of course Lady Aevian! It would be an honor to be a Noble escort!" So was he in service to a noble house now? Wow, that was one hell of a blessing from falling into the river. They'd been talking and moving for so long, they hadn't realized how low the sun had gotten in the sky. It was going to be time to set up camp soon.
"Ah, we should probably find a good place to set up a camp." Wyatt remarked.
-------------
It was a few hours later when camp had been set up. Wyatt was perfectly willing to do the hunting, but Aevian insisted she could do it. Probably the 'man born as a woman' thing again. Instead he'd set up camp, started the fire, the usual preparations, wondering what Aevian would return with.

While the time Aevian had been gone, she had set up snares and traps. Hours passed, and nothing...nothing at all. Grumbling, she went and stalked through the bush, until she heard one of the snares snap shut, and a light shriek of a small animal, which sounded like a Rabbit. With Axe in hand, she pushed through the brush, and came about, seeing the trapped animal, and turning the blade of her axe back, she quickly clubbed the animal with a swift, powerful movement.
Grinning at the animal, she picked it up by the hind legs, and began to walk off with it. it wasn't anything like a deer, or the like, but the rabbit was pleasantly plump. She pushed through the trees slowly, and a little tiredly, having been walking and stalking for hours now...it was dark, and hard to see in the woods, but she knew Wyatt had to have had the campsite somewhere around here.
"Ah...damn it...where the hell am I?"

Wyatt was tending the fire with a stick, moving the embers to and fro when he heard the rustling through the brush, a bit of a ways off.
'That must be Aevian.' He thought, and began prepping the fire to cook whatever she'd caught. It had been a bit, so the game was probably pretty sparse here, oh well. Couldn't eat like a king every day! He heard the rustling approach the camp, and then move off on an angle while still a bit out. Hmm, maybe she couldn't see the fire from where she was? The undergrowth was pretty dense here.
But how to get her attention without giving away anything if that rustling was not friendly? He resolved to hitting his hammer on a rock, letting off a sharp crack with each hit. The sound reverberated through the forest.

Aevian twirled around at the sound of the hammer clanging in the air. Nodding, knowing it was Wyatt, she began to quickly work her way through the brush, lightly stepping over roots and brush she could hardly see with the pale light. Her eyes narrowed in on the camp fire that was now see-able, and she slowed herself. Appearing almost out of nowhere, she held the rabbit up by it's hind legs and gave Wyatt an easy shrug of her shoulders.
"I guess I should stick to fishing."
She gave a chuckle and handed the rabbit off to Wyatt. Though she caught it, she had no idea in the style to prepare it. Never once, had she really cooked for herself, and though she did feel a pang of guilt, slightly forcing Wyatt to this, she didn't really know any other way...this was who she was and how she was raised, but she didn't want the young man to feel like a servant to her.
"Sorry...I really have no idea how to prepare hare.."

Wyatt merely chuckled at her remark of not knowing how to cook it. Ok, so maybe some of the rumors about nobles were true.
"It's ok, I can do that part." He said, drawing out a hunting knife and taking the rabbit from her. With a few quick and practiced motions, he soon had the hunks of meat cut free. He then impaled them on a small sharpened stick he'd carved out in the free time for this very reason. He then placed the meat over the fire and smiled.
"And that's all there is to it. The actual places to cut takes a little practice. Do it a few times and you'll know where to cut to get the most meat." He explained. He let the meat simmer over the fire. "It'll be a bit still until it's done cooking. I'd say we should turn in early tonight. If we move fast, we could make it to Ostia before nightfall tomorrow."
