OoC: Long overdo, sorry, will proceed now.
Since leaving rayl's company back in Sacae, two days have passed. The day before, the group of Aidan, Lyar and Aevian passed into Bern territory late in the day, and now on that second day, they continue their journey.
Aevian scuffed her boots on the hard-packed dirt road which was mostly used for trade...a sort of highway, in a sense. She breathed deep through her nose, and smelled the sweet, clean air. It wasn't as sweet as Sacae, but this was home for her, most experienced a sort of calm when they were in a place they knew well, rather than a place just visited. The sky was cloudy, however, almost like it was threatening to rain, but the clouds were not nearly so dark as to suggest that, with the sun trying to break through now and then.
Looking over her should, Aevian studied her two companions with an almost hidden glance, but really, she thought nothing of them. She knew who they were, and knew why they came with her. Aidan was of Bern too, and heard of the turmoil broiling here just as she did , and Lyar was there to accompany her, doubtful that he just wanted to get her a drink, that would be a fool reason to come with her, instead, she thought he wanted to see Bern, and who wouldn't? Lycia had beautiful kingdoms, sure, but Bern was where it was at.
"If we're lucky.." She began and was distracted by a red bird she didn't think she had seen before. After looking at it for a moment, she resumed the comment she was bringing up. "We should be able to get to the town of Lacuna by midday, and resupply."

...Bern...
Lyar had sailed the high seas. He had seen distant islands. He has sailed through smooth waters, to high rapid waves...
But Bern..bern was something entirely different, and yet so similar. What was not waves were instead mountains, ranging from small hills to thunderous mountains that towered over them with ease. Instead of various assortments of fish, there were a large variety of birds. A particular red one had apparently caught his attention as did it Aevian's...He could see why mother had always wanted to come here, it WAS beautiful. Speaking of which, Aevian had begun to speak about a town...Lacuna was it? He had to take his mind off the scenery to pay more attention next time," Alright sounds good then..." his voice was obviously wandering as you could also tell from where his eyes were looking:
Here and There, To and Fro. From Aevian to the mountains to some trees to some birds...if only someone could invent something that could instantly draw the scenery instead of having to set up a canvas...It could work like a telescope or something...

Bern?
Yes, Bern. Most definitely. There was something strange going on inside of him right now. Of all the places in the world he wanted to be, Bern was far from the top of his list. In fact, it was probably the very bottom. He left for a reason after all. Though... now that he was here... He couldn't deny that unmistakable feeling inside him, longing to return home. To see the stony halls of his house after all this time... but that's a dream that's quite unobtainable. For many reasons, actually.
He heard Aevian speak, but said nothing in return. Lacuna, huh? I was there a long time ago... I don't really recognize the terrain, but then again I had a bird's eye view back then. Still, it's as a good a stop as any I suppose. I know that I am personally running out of rations, so I'm more then happy for a chance to resupply. His internal monologue played in his mind, looking around the area. The mountains were a welcome sight to the sore eyes of staring at nothing but plains for what seemed like years.
"Lacuna? Good, we're getting closer." He spoke absentmindedly, obviously thinking of something else. He looked ahead with a pensive stare, thinking about going home and seeing Iris once again... and his feeling on that.

Aevian casually exchanged glances between Lyar and Aidan, and grinned a bit, and faced forwards once more. As she continued to move, she kept her hands in her pockets. Though the landscape was wondrous, the mountain air was cold. With a slight shiver, she proceeded as if nothing happened.
Lacuna was a trading town, and always had been, since it was so close to the border. In all likeliness, this was a placed untouched by the rioting in the capital. With a loud yawn, Aevian picked up the pace. She could really go for a bed right now, no more sleeping under trees for her. She was glad, however, that there was no rain during the entire trip here.
"Aidan, what will you do when we return to the capital?m And what of you, Lyar? Going to go sightseeing?"

Personally, Aidan missed the cold. He could never stand it when it got too hot, especially with this tin can over his skin. He would heat up like an oven cooking a human pot-roast. No he preferred the chilly airs of Bern and it's mountains. Just another nostalgic twanging of homesickness I suppose. It took a moment for him to actually register that Lady Diera spoke to him, for most of the trip was made in silence until now.
He thought for a moment about what she asked, what was he going to do? He knew his sister wanted him to come home, but... he didn't know why exactly. The letter says she needs me to do something that she would only trust me with... I'm not sure what that means though. Nothing came to mind immediately, and his sister wasn't exactly the emotional type. It was probably something important if she couldn't do it herself...
He brought a gauntlet clad hand to his chin and held it there for a moment in thought. "Hrm, well first I need to go see my sister. She sent me a letter about two weeks ago asking me to return home." That was all he was sure about, everything after that was a 'maybe' or 'perhaps'. "After that... I'll find out when it happens I suppose."
"What about you?" He asked nonchalantly, it was only fair. She asked him after all, he didn't know much about her other then her last name and that she liked hitting things with her axe.

Lyar shrugged as he hefted his huge axe from one shoulder to the other, using his free hand to scratch his chin before looking down to his companions," I dunno. Mother always wanted to see Bern...maybe I can write down what I see and sh-" he paused, and the complete look of realization and self-failure on his face was comical and priceless when he noticed the two main flaws in this plan:
One: He could not read or write...
and Two: Mother dies years ago...
Oh well! He was here now, and he may as well fulfill her last request anyways, as his dumbfounded expression faded away back to his usual grin,"-Yep, just sightseeing I guess, maybe crack a few skulls at an arena or something: Brother and I will need a new home now that those Etrurians blew ours up!"

Aevian gave Aidan a wild grin, and tilted her head, peering through her dark, sun-burnt brown hair as she studied the knight, and gave a passive nod. She had been tempted to ask him about his sister, she must have been of nobility once too, as was Aidan, or still was, but that didn't matter a whole lot in the general jist of things. Her eyes then swung to Lyar as he brought up his casual aloofness to reasoning. he was a big boy, didn't need to tell her anything unnecessary he didn't need to, but the way he answered was how she thought he was casually, and again, nodded in silence.
Fingering the ornate golden necklace around her neck, thumb touching the violet gem socketed to it with absence of mind, her eyes moved to the hard packed road and continued on at the brisk pace she was setting. Not having heard any sort of protest to the pace, she deemed it was commonly accepted. There was something she had planned on coming back to do herself, more so than just coming and helping the people...it could have her killed, or declared a hero, she wanted neither, but she wanted stability.
"Firstly, I come back to see the stance on how Bern is holding out with the civil unrest of Ilia's occupation. I will help as I might be of use, but I intend not to aid Ilia here with containing our own threat. Ilia is a parasite, having taken over and now leeching from Bern's food stocks. I cannot tolerate it, especially with the audacity of that Sacaen on the throne."
It was...strange to say that, being Half-Sacaen herself, but she was born Bern, and would die Bern, despite her blood.

Is she opposed to Ilian occupation? I'm not sure, her subtlety just blew me away. He sarcastically retorted in his mind, a place where no one else could hear. As for him... well he's tried very hard to be divorced from the entire situation. To not even pay it attention, and not take a side. Though... It was futile to even attempt this, drowning in a sea of bad blood from all around. Still he wasn't really sure if he was sure he should even comment. If he opened his mouth, it would only blast him as a hypocrite, as he left the country to avoid the problem all together. It doesn't matter what he thought, he's done not a thing to support it.
He tugged slight on the hairs of his chin absentmindedly. The large armored man stood there, thinking about everything. It's redundant now I suppose. The Lowells are no more. Ilia made sure to that, maybe... if we ever get Bern back... He stopped those thoughts, they never led anywhere helpful, instead he just sighed. "Hopefully we won't even run into Ilia for a while. I have a feeling it won't be pretty if we do." He said wistfully, being cautious as he always is. If it came down to it... he would fight. But he really hoped it didn't, he didn't want to be a hero or a villain to anyone... he couldn't be a hero or villain to anyone. Maybe Aevian, Lyar, or even his sister... but not him. No one should look at him like that.
Speaking of Lyar... The armor clad man craned his neck around to look at the blue haired pirate. "The Arena is where you're headed, huh?" He asked innocently, with the same stoic scowl he always wore. Somehow... that doesn't surprise me. At all. Is that saying something good or bad about the kind of person this Lyar is... He wanted to chuckle, but didn't. My father used to fight in the arena a long time ago back when he wasn't the head of his home, but rather a wild young man who expected his older brother to do everything in the world for him. He was pretty popular too, if I remember right...
"If it's a good fight you're longing for, I remember there being an Arena near Lacuna. A popular stop on many trading caravans, to blow off steam and blow off gold."

Aevian just gave a knowing grin at Aidan. He didn't look like a man who would be afraid of fighting, no one could, not with that much armor on. Licking her lips, she shrugged her shoulders a touch dismissively about his comment, whether they faced Ilia now or later, it wouldn't matter. They would be fought eventually, blood was the cost for freedom after all, Bern had forgotten that, and had become a captive state.
Scuffing her rather dull-looking boots on the dirt road, Aevian could see pillars of smoke rising, possibly chimneys in the distance. A faint aroma of bread just beginning to waft downwind to the three travelers, could make her mouth water. She was pretty hungry truth be told.
"We'll have to fight those snow-coveting blowhards eventually, Aidan, I'd rather have it soon so we could get it over with."
Shaking her head, a light grumble on her voice, she pushed on with the men in tow. The sooner she got to the town, the sooner her belly would be full and then on her way to Bern.

Lyar's face flashed from his usual, oddly innocent grin, to a rather dark one, for only a brief moment before being his usual happy self, "That is always a good thing to know, Aidan my friend.". The scent of freshly baked bread filled his nostrils, but he wasn't focused on this or their little conversation on revolution. Nay, he was focused on something more important: His brother. Sure he was always yelling and putting him down, but in the end the two had the strongest bond in the world. Heck, it was with Mavick's genius that Lyar had gotten so far in the arenas to get them the money for their house...and then his enlistment as an Ostian tactician that landed him his privateer job to put food on their table.
...to be honest Lyar didn't ( originally) have a taste for battle, but when it came to dealing with Mavick's bullies when he was a kid til now...well, it's an acquired taste. As the group continued on, the sight of small buildings appeared in their view, but more importantly to him: the larger Colosseum upon it's outskirts, nearest the trio.

Aidan just shook his head looking at the ground, hiding a slight smirk on his face. It seemed he's been grouped up with a pair of battle seekers. "You have to remember, we're three people traveling to Bern. None of us are unrivaled warriors like Alan, we are simply fighters. Ilia, Ilia is an entire country full of battle hardened mercenaries." He looked at it from a purely logical standpoint. It didn't matter if she wanted to singlehandedly kick Ilia out of Bern, it just wasn't going to happen like that. She knew how to fight, that was true, but she is just one fighter... and no one can help anyone if they're already dead.
"Will we eventually fight Ilia? I don't know. Probably. I'm just saying we shouldn't seek them out." Personally... I'd prefer to get to Bern without any problems at all. Though I know better then to ask for impossible things like that. "It doesn't matter now though, we're almost there, I can see some shops and homes from here."

Aevian gave a thoughtful look at Aidan, but she held no harshness for his words. He spoke truth. She knew full well that she was nowhere near Alan, but one had to start somewhere, right? Pretty sure Alan wasn't the top of what he was when he started out in the world...hopefully not... Crossing her arms, she gave a small nod and a sigh to go along with it, as she continued on, somewhat dallying now that her mood was put off a little.
However, she wouldn't be too disheartened for long, as Aidan was, once again, correct. The town's first few buildings were coming into sight as they rolled over a hill. The town seemed busy, as it should, during the prime of the day. Already, she could hear merchants calling out to hawk their wears, hoping to make a quick few gold, despite the condition it was probably in. Still, the sight of civilization brought good fortune to her, and she filled with life once more. Motioning for a slightly quicker pace, Aevian walked down the hill towards the gates of the town.
As to be expected, there were guards on duty, inspecting carts for illegal goods and/or fugitives. As the Trio came to the gate, a tall, broad man, almost like that of Lyar himself, except in more armor, lifted a hand to halt them.
"Welcome to Lacuna. Be safe, and cause no mischief."
With a slight inclination of her head, Aevian again, motioned for the group to follow. It was expected to be stopped, carrying weapons as they were...probably seemed like bandits to him, aside from Aidan, no bandit would be caught dead in such awesome armor.

There it was, the trading town of Lacuna. He hadn't been here since he was just a trainee, it felt... odd to be here in a tin can when the last time he had visited he was accompanied by a young wyvern. It was sad to think about such a memory, then again it was also happy. Still he kept his mouth shut, very few people were privy to what he was thinking rather then what he said. He tried to quicken his pace, but it was significantly harder to do for him then either of his partners. Speed... it wasn't his strong suit.
They reached the gate and was hailed by the guard, who gave them a weary eye and somewhat suspicious eye. Three highly armed travelers? He seemed especially interested in eying out Aidan... which made him feel a bit uncomfortable. Then again, he did kinda stand out. Even if he wasn't as big as Lyar, he definitely stood atleast a head taller then Aevian and was completely covered in thick armor. All he needed was a helmet really, though he left that back in Arphen...
With a small grunt he nodded to the man. He wasn't the one they should worry about causing trouble... He looked at Aevian as she led the way, then around the town. A few merchants looked at them, and he expected they would call them over soon. Aevian may not of been totally decked out in royal garments and held herself like she was the richest thing since money, but she was a young woman and she did look like she had money... Aidan might be a little less likely, despite looking like a soldier, if only because he looked intimidating. Though he could expect a full rundown at the smithy, which was worrisome because he intended on going there later.
He poked at a hole in a link of his armor, pierced by a spear in that last battle. His armor also had a lot of scratches, and that one part on his pauldron was about to break off... The inside smells like a combination of sweat and blood... Yeah, he'd need a bit of metalwork done. Maybe he should clean it later?

When motioned to speed up, Lyar shrugged and silently continued with them. Speed was a strong suit for him. The town was getting closer and closer and Lyar was getting more and more eager for some sightseeing...oh and help get money for the house once this whole mess was over. When they reached the gate, a heavily armored guard, probably a half foot shorter than himself, hailed them, giving each of them the eye, probably Lyar in particular. After all, he didn't look regal like Aevian, or Noble like Aidan...he was just a dirty, giant with a big axe...Walking behind his friends, watching as people eyed the trio, hawking their wares. They eyed mostly Aevian, then Aidan to a lesser extent...Lyar...well they looked at him in fear...eh it was expected, as he stopped and decided to look to the distance:
There it was...the Colosseum...yes...he would go there, and would fight, and win, and get money for his brother...and maybe to help support his friends too...He looked down to his right at the pair. Aidan's armor was dinged here and there, along with scratches...that pauldron didn't look good either...as for Aevian, well...after their little duel turned mud fight, she'd probably need some repairs on her axe, along with maybe some fixed armor or whatever. And so he made up his mind, and stood triumphantly," Alright guys! What's the plan? Do we meet up at an inn or something after taking care of our business?"

As they were inside the sturdy stone walls, and now within the market square, all Aevian could think of was restocking her supply. Looking to Lyar as he voiced his question, a small nod of her head was given after his first suggestion. It sounded best afterall. Lyar did want to do his fighting, while she wanted to go about her business.
"Meeting up later would be best...how about.."
Aevian's eyes searched between the four inns in sight at the moment. The best ones were usually the ones with easiest access, but that always wasn't true. She'd choose one she knew that could be reliable and pointed it out, an inn called 'The Lady's Smile.'
"We'll met up at The Lady's Smile when we're all done. I need to get my supplies afterall, don't know about the rest of you, but that's my main concern."
