Saturos eyed the loud Ilian official as he walked into town and disappeared into a quaint looking tavern. After some muffled yelling, a small group of soldiers came shuffling out, grumbling as they put on their helmets and tightened their armor. Apparently they didn't like their fun being ruined by some diplomat, but then again, who ever did? Diplomats were the worst. They had big heads and very few skills other than blathering away at the mouth.
As the soldiers left the city, however, Saturos noticed the diplomat come back out of the tavern and follow the soldiers out of the city. Something was up, but as far as Saturos was concerned, it just made their job easier. Less soldiers in the immediate vicinity meant their small group could move around a little more freely, though there were still more than enough soldiers hanging around to ruin their day, and probably waves of soldiers waiting to be summoned in a nearby barracks. They had to be careful.
Speaking of careful, the myrmidon didn't notice that he was on a collision course with a very large man, his thoughts distracted by this Ilian newcomer. Saturos walked straight into the man and bounced off of him with a bump. He was to apologize to the poor stranger he had bothered, but instead ended up clapping the giant on the shoulder in greeting. "Lyar, glad to see you made it in," he said jovially, and loudly, just so the soldier standing ten feet away from them didn't get suspicious. Though loudness could always have the opposite effect if not done right. "I was just telling Syana about you, uh..." Saturos took a split second to wrack his brain for a good connection between him and the axeman that didn't involve rebellion. "...brother!" Yes, brother was good. Their hair was similar enough, right? Yes, Lyar was in town to celebrate Saturos and Syana's upcoming marriage. Yes, that worked, which made Aidan..."
"Brother!" he said waving his hand at the large looking monk a short ways away. "We've been meaning to talk to you about the ceremony!" Saturos strut over to Aidan in order to further the "conversation".

Aidan cringed. First it was some loud person screaming and hollering like a lunatic, about security he said. The way he sounded, so self righteous and so condescending. No doubt he was either very experienced, or very inexperienced. Though this wasn't a bad thing, this drew away just about any attention they might have garnered. Unless, of course, the man wanted to search the town. Then things might get sticky, so in general they were safer now but getting out of town quickly seemed to be the best option.
The other thing was, he heard not too far away the voice of Saturos, loud and jolly. It seemed he thought similar to Aidan, as the best course of action was to remain inconspicuous rather then discreet. But that didn't particularly mean he wanted him to come clamoring up an- oh, there he is. Damn.
"Brother! We've been meaning to talk to you about the ceremony!" He called and waved his arm to signal Aidan in closer. He wondered what he meant by 'brother' as the term had many meaning, two of which that seemed equally likely at the moment. He decided to take it in the religious sense, as he already full up on annoying siblings looking to meddle in his life. He hid a slight twitching of the eye, hopefully it was unseen anyways. He had wanted to wait until later before meeting up, but apparently Saturos had something to say. Hopefully it was important.
"Yes?" He turned to the man wearing a shirt like it was some kind of unnatural abomination. "Ah. It is you, Saturos, my child. It is good to see you once more." Aidan spoke eloquently, but not without that slight haughtiness one always found in the voice of clergy. "How are you and your lovely betrothed? I hadn't expected to see you until the ceremony in Bern." He bowed his head to the man, speaking in with a level and sedated voice.

So there he was, the jolly lumberjack standing in the middle of a crowd, leaning on an axe while whistling a jaunty sea tune, when someone bumped into him...what set him off was that he actually felt the impact, instead of just hearing the grunt of the person with the misfortune to bump into him...not that the collision affected him or anything. Looking down to whoever it was, he was about pardon himself (even if he wasn't at fault.), when he realized it was a certain mercenary...
...it's hard to tell who a shirtless person is if they are wearing a shirt.
Then Saturos went on about a wedding and brotherhood. The former he understood, but the later...well, it struck some sort of chord, because as the cyan haired man ricocheted back to talk to some cloaked gu- oh wait that's Aidan, the giant couldn't help but think to his diminutive dwarf of a brother, off with that one guy doing that one thing for some reason...he forgot what was going with them already, but was sure the shaman would be alright: Richter ( that was that one guy!) was a good man and wouldn't let him down in keeping his brother safe...
Silently looking on as the awaiting groom talked to his priest about the ceremony, The slightly-less-jolly lumberjack went back to whistling, though without the usual vigor.

Saturos leaned in. Obviously he didn't want to talk about a marriage ceremony, for they were far too busy for such an occasion, but talking about weddings in front of the lucky "bride," well, that gave the myrmidon the excuse to whisper.
"That official," began Saturos in a soft voice, motioning to the front gate with his head, "he's got this thing..." He waved his fist around as if he had a piece of paper in it. He always was prone to hand motions when describing something. "It's a piece of paper with something important on it. I think it's the Ilian seal." Saturos glanced towards the gate again, continuing to check for the official. If he came back, their window was gone. "We could slip in and out of every city in Bern if we had that." A third time, the myrmidon checked the gate, almost habitually this time. "I say we do this thing highway men style and get that guy's paper." Again, the gate. Still no official. "He's out there with six soldiers at most. Threaten the official, get the paper, vamoose." Saturos made a wooshing noise and a sweeping motion with his hand.

"Somehow..." Aidan began, hushed tones but eyes darting around for signs of suspicion. "I don't think it'll be quite so easy as that." Then again nothing EVER is. He just wanted a simple trip home, the all of this happen. He must be cursed by Elmine herself. "I'm against it." He kept his sentences short and to the point, there was no time for the fluffy fillings of words that filled the mouths of many senselessly. "It would be useful, but not for the risk." Aidan also had a dirt little feeling that it wouldn't matter, he was getting to Bern no matter what anyways. All the little odds and ends here and there made that abundantly clear. No one would go to such lengths if they didn't plan for him to succeed.
While threatening the official could get the item, it could also trigger an avalanche of soldiers. That official, he wouldn't give it up easily. That much Aidan knew for certain. Either he'd be confident in his ability to succeed, or he'd be foolishly proud and never yield. He knew officials like this, he'd spent the better part of his life being yelled at by them. Rarely they were the gutless coward that Saturos was envisioning. "No, we should hurry. The longer we stay, the more dangerous."

Syana had been quiet as the boys talked, using her new cover as a bride to be to look around. Other people would assume she was an excited bride trying to take in all the sights, but in reality she was covering their backs. She noted Saturos kept looking towards the gate, so she focused almost everywhere else. Some people were looking over at them, but not in a suspicious way, more of a curious one at the supposed wedding. Saturos just had to yell, didn't he? Oh well. When the talk moved to what they should do, she finally spoke up. "I agree with Aidan. None of us are well armed enough to fight back if we really need to, but we'd completely blow these covers for any time in the future and could even get prices on our heads. And I like my head. I think we should just slip out quietly."

Meaanwhile at the other side of the city. Bad things was being prepared,a group of bandits, ready to put mayhem and destruction in there path ,where listening to a the "strategie" of a new member among them. Eclesias, whit a stick, draw a representation of the town and the group and explain the situation.
"Okay guys,if you could calm yourself for a minute,i'd like to tell you how things would work,it would be easier than just run in like idiots."
Eclesias explained why the group was splited in two,one of the two bandit groups was to go around the city and light some trees before attacking that side of the city, while the second group was to wait the signal and lauch the assault on the other side, like that they could circle the village and while the trees burn,it would add some confusion in it.
"Alright now, send the ones charged to go around we will wait patiently..."
Eclesias had trouble to work whit the others, some of them don't agree whit his idea and prefer to start all right now. Some of them were real pain for the head,it troubled Eclesias when he try to put usefull tricks into their heads.Well...now the only thing to do was waiting for the signal...

Despite what Saturos thought he'd seen, Judah had not left the town. Instead, he'd decided to take the chance he had to get to know it better. Slipping off into a nearby alley way, he turned inside at the first door he saw, moving quietly upstairs. Someone inside was working on sharpening a set of knives. Not the best thing for an intruder to run into. The darkly clothed man was careful though, and quickly disabled the workman, and put him in a sleeper hold till he fell calmly to the floor, unconscious.
After a moment of waiting, to make sure the sleeper wouldn't be waking anytime soon, the light user moved to the back of the house. Out the window at the back, he could see the back of another house. To either side were more houses, and at the bottom ran a small stream of something he preferred to keep out of his mind. That didn't deter him though. The narrow, back alley was secluded, and so it fit his current needs. No one would see his imminent actions.
Stepping to the open window frame, he studied the other side of the wall for a moment before leaping out. His hands grabbed hold of the wall exactly where he had wanted them too, and he hauled himself up to the next grip. It was nearly the end of his plan when part of the structure proved to be older, and more rotten than he'd thought. With a cry held back only by gritted teeth, part of the wood broke away. He tightened his remaining grip down like a vise, so tight he was worried he'd shatter the wood he was gripping, but it held. After regaining his grip, he pulled his legs up against the wall, and shoved off, twisting through the air as he went. Now he had made it to the lip of the roof of the house he'd started in. It was with relief that he pulled himself up, only a scant ten to twenty seconds after he'd started the climb.
From this vantage, he'd be able to see nearly the entire quarter of the city he was in, which could prove valuable if he ever had to return. Taking care not to move into the open sight of the roads, he took in the view. What he saw was a landscape of hills and valleys; the roofs of the town he was in. Some were thatched, some shingled, most looked treacherous, and unsteady to the clumsy. Then he saw more. The roads. Several choke points could be used by defenders to help confound attackers, but then, the many small alleys could be used to the attackers advantage. There was nothing particularly notable here, but still, it may do well to watch for a bit.
The seal he'd stolen came to mind then. Eventually, likely a few days would pass before they discovered they'd been hoodwinked by a false official. When that time came, the signature on it would be a death sentence for any who carried it. The seal itself could be useful though, if he had to forge something like this in the future.
Eventually, his mind wandered yet again. "Is sticking around to watch the city's life worth the risk of staying?" He watched on, as he considered.

Eclesias eyed the clear blue sky,no smoke was yet to be see.It takes them a lot of time it should be ready by now.Eclesias looked at the mens, they were begin to be impatient and some of them showed sight of irritation. The nerves of Eclesias where tested, who could hold a pack of blood thirsty maniacs ready to put destruction in their path, not many man and not for long. The laught and cry of joy wake Eclesias up from his thought, its then he realize the heavy dark smoke where making his black cloud of death over the city.
"Mens,its time to go."
Like one men,all the bandits charged straight to the village, cutting down the city gates guard and began to invade the village. Eclesias taked a close watch of the charge,he better wanted the others to do the job so he could sneak past unnoticed in the fighting and go in a alley.Thats what he do,passing by the firsts dead bodys,Eclesias strolled down, looking from time to time behind him,to be sure not to be followed by a guard. A horrific scream surprised Eclesias. A women was frozen from the sight of a bandit slaying down a guard in front of her,her basket of fruits drop down has shes beginning to run away screaming for help. This alley was about to be full of guard a bad thing for him. Prefering to take is leave,Eclesias was decided to go find the market or the rich district of this town and plunder it.

"Well... crap." Of course, just as they were planning on leaving and their covert operation was almost a complete success, along came waves of bandits. You can always count on bandits to show at the worst time, or the best time, or any time really. Ugh! Aidan hated bandits so much right now.
He saw them pour into the town, not far from where he was standing. A woman dropped her things in shock, and began to ran. Aidan wasn't really thinking now, rather working on instinct. And what his instincts told him... "Go on, get out of here!" Aidan shouted to the woman as she hurried, his body moving swiftly to the corpse of the dead guard. He nabbed the lance the man had held in his hands just moments before, and impaled the bandit upon it. A short spray of blood splattered on his monk cloak, all but ruining the disguise. Unless of course he was pretending to be a warrior monk, regardless stabbing people doesn't seem the right way into Elmine's good books. Unless of course you're Etrurian.
It was, well he didn't even think about it, the best course of action WOULD of been to escape in all this confusion. But he wouldn't do that, not when this was happening right in front of his eyes. He yanked the weapon stolen from the dead out of the glossy eyes man, and turned his head sharply. There were many. Soldiers and bandits, both bad for him. Still, that didn't seem to matter right this second. "Saturos, Syana, Lyar! Go and get out of here!"

Saturos's eyes widened as bandits stormed into the city. Good grief. Brigands seemed like a force of nature at times.
"You don't have to tell me twice!" replied Saturos, urging Syana and Lyar to follow as per Aidan's command. As he broke into a run, a marauding bandit came lunging at him, swinging his oversized sword overhead. The myrmidon, however, deftly sidestepped the blow. Throwing back his cloak, he revealed his blade and unsheathed it with a flourish. Needless to say, the bandit was not happy at the resistance being posed by what he had taken to be a hapless townsfolk, but no matter. Another sword swing would do it.
Saturos, on the other hand, had a different idea. He brought his blade up, blocking the strike and stepping into the bandit's "stance", and thrust it through the man's chest, twisting it for added effect. The brigand fell to the ground, blood spurting from the wound in his chest. Slipping his sword from the bandit's chest cavity, Saturos looked around. There was no getting through the front gate. It was too overrun by bandits. "Follow me!" shouted the Etrurian, ducking into a nearby alley. It was probably safest to go through the buildings for now. Bandits weren't too bright, but he didn't want to be carelessly sideswiped out in the chaos of the streets, especially considering that he didn't have his armor on him.

And suddenly: Bandits.
The jokes that Lyar and his privateer buddies made about the brigands...of course now wasn't the time for such things. Upon hearing Aidan's shout, Lyar gave a firm nod of his head and grabbed what was under the blanket in the cart and bolted down an alleyway, and in a way akin to a superhero emerging from nowhere, the giant re-appeared in his armored form, both axes at the ready: well since now wasn't the best time to stay undercover...
...nor was he about to obey Aidan's order to flee, especially as the man stood there alone without his armor. Rushing back to the cart, he grabbed the spear he'd acquired from their past skrimish and went running forward into the chaos to his comrade's side, slamming the slim weapon into Aidan's other hand, and once again grabbing his second axe from his back:
Expecting Lyar to leave the Bernese knight behind was foolhardy at best.

Post by Judah on Dec 28, 2010 21:37:42 GMT -6
With a jolt, Judah was drawn out of his leisurely inspection of the city. Bandits, cutthroats, criminals. They were invading the city, causing chaos and confusion, often death, wherever they went.
Bandits... What a bother. In a sense, they were like him. The comparison was that of the crudest carpentry nail, to that of the finest of lances, but they could both be found on the wrong side of the law occasionally. That didn't mean there was any sort of kinship between himself and these brigands. The light mage assassin could never see himself stooping to causing the wanton destruction that the bandits so enjoyed.
"I think, maybe, it's time to leave." Judah said, standing up quickly. He moved to the back of the house, and looked down from the roof. What he found there, truly made him smile.
There, half way up the wall, struggling at a particularly difficult area was a bandit archer. His bow and quiver were slung across his back, and his mouth and eyes were wide open, looking stupidly up at the black-haired man who was already at the top of the house he was trying to climb.
Judah merely gave him a toothy grin, tilting his head quizically at the man for a moment. "You know, you're the reason there are so many bandits like yourself in this world. The pain and injury you cause is a blight which you spread across the land." The bandit clung onto the house, frozen into place by this strange dark-haired speaker. "Do you know what we do to fix a blight?" Judah's face changed from the grin, twisting into a hideous expression of deadly intent, as he touched the power in his lightning tome.
"We burn it!" By the time the word "burn" was spoken though, the archer would no longer be listening. Instead, he would be watching as a sphere of light formed and shot towards him, hitting his upper body, and making it seem as if his torso had been dipped in molten metals for a moment. Next he would feel the impact coming off the bolt, and finally feel himself slamming into the ground below, before slipping into blackness.
Judah, for his part, wasted no time in dropping down through the window of the next house over, and quickly moving down the inside stairs, cloak swishing softly behind him.
The reason he'd come down? Archers. If the city guard had any, they'd probably be trying to get them to elevated positions. As would any enterprising brigands. Being on the rooftops would make the acolyte into a prime target, which was exactly what an assassin tried to avoid... Most of the time, anyway.

Without missing a beat, Syana took right off after Saturos and Lyar. She didn't stop to try and persuade Lyar not to good back, either. She knew the big guy wouldn't want to abandon Aidan and she admired that. But she also knew she had no chance in this battle, especially if money wasn't involved, why risk it? With no time to stop and get out her weapon, she just kept following Saturos. She kept her distance as he dispatched a bandit then kept following him. "Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, oh crap..." She muttered as they ran, dodging down the alley after Saturos. "The one day I embrace my girly side bandits attack. Just great..."

Good, they're getting away. Aidan thought to his self as he saw Saturos and Syana bolt away from the scene. He drew back his arm to find someone shoving another weapon into his spare hand. He didn't even need to look to know who it was, and quite frankly it didn't surprise him. Lyar was just as stupid as Aidan was when it came to things like this. Whether that is a compliment or not, is up to debate. It put a small smile on the knight's face though, that's for sure.
Still, lances were not like sword or axes. You couldn't just dual wield them. It was hard enough using a spear one handed while holding a shield in the other. That reminded him. Aidan swooped down to the body of another guard, this was beginning to be a pattern, and stole a shield. It was much... smaller and lighter then what he was used to, then again he was used to giant tower shields and not a small buckler like this. This was meant for sword fighters, not spearmen, but it would have to do.
He took Lyar lance, and dropped the stolen one. The one he was given was in much better condition, and he went to battle. He needed to be careful, he didn't have his second skin with him. He had to focus on using his smaller shield to block rather then his body.
As if on cue, an axe came crashing down on him. Lifting the shield to intercept, he caught the bandit off guard, rushing him with the lance. A nice stab to the chest, but the man wasn't dead. He kicked Aidan off of him, and stumbled away as the knight staggered back.
He just really hoped there wasn't any archers.
