"Rayl is the hero of Lycia and one of my allies in this war," interrupted Richter. "I've known him since the Bandit War. He was instrumental in defeating Hargus. He's still here if you want to talk with him, but we'll be parting ways once we move out." The rebel commander peered into the fire as he spoke. If Rayl could negotiate Ilia's withdrawal from Bern, Richter might be in an even better position. "He's taking the Etrurian hostages to Lycia, and we're going to Ilia. Perhaps we'll meet again." He looked at Marle, standing up. "I thank you for the arrival and the assistance, but I believe our business is done here." He gave Clair and Marle a quick nod each.
"I'll leave you two to catch up," said Richter, grabbing his armor and slipping it on. "Marle, if you want to talk later, I'll be in my tent." With that, the pink haired commander strapped on his sword and walked out into the rain.

Marle listened, but her eyes didn't really give off a glimmer of interest. She ascertained what she needed to know. He was a Lycian, and Richter's ally, fair enough. She didn't know a whole lot about the Bandit War. It wasn't circulated much in her village, but there was mention of it, but she was still young then, and had her whole life ahead of her, nothing to really worry about on her end. Nodding to Richter in thanks, she looked at her armor and shield just behind it. The armor was relatively well conditioned, but her shield had seen better days.
Picking it up, she rubbed a few of the scratches. She was trying to muse herself while he talked, it was a way she kept better attention, by hearing something, and having a visual aid to compare it with. Most often thought she was just ignoring them.
"I see...well, he will have my thanks, as he's a friend of yours..."
Looking up from it, with her hand still on the outward part of her very large triangular shield, Marle wore a bit of a bewildered expression.
"If you say so. Getting you in won't be so bad, if the roads are cleared...also, I've been meaning to ask you. We also had reports of odd creatures. Some beasts, others man-shaped. With wild claws and teeth, Bodies ripped apart by what seemed bears, but much more brutally, not for the kill, but just for the sake of it.." Marle paused for a moment, touching her side. "Two days gone, we passed a few Sacaen huts, torn apart by claws, and the inhabitant's bodies scattered and dismembered..."

The pegasus knight remembered the time they had spent in Ostia. "I... know what you're speaking of, Marle."
Clair closed her eyes at the memory of the creatures Marle spoke of, and took a few deep breaths. They'd seen the man-like monsters in Ostia, after it fell. The newly appointed High Officer Abend, had taken the troops set under him, and arrived at Ostia, after it had been razed. They'd set about reporting to superiors, offering aid to their fellow soldiers, and distributing supplies to the civilians of the fallen city. Who would have expected that the many corpses there would rise up, and try to tear the Inquisitorial Army apart.
It was unnatural. They didn't move fast, but there were many, and they'd seemed to refuse to die. Disaster had only been prevented, by pulling out as fast as they could, and scorching the city with mage fire again. It had been a horrible thing to see.
"We fought the dead while at the ruins of Ostia.... They were hideous. They just wouldn't stop, until you cut them apart, or... knocked there heads off...." Clair regained control of her shaking voice. "I hope I never see something so grotesque again."

Guinevere stood silent as Rayl greeted this new girl. So, she was his cousin? Interesting, it seemed she still had a lot to learn about him. And he had thought her dead? Well, no wonder why he seemed so happy. The soldier felt a small smile grow on her face. It was cute to see Rayl all excited like this. His cousin, Marissa, seemed... hyper. Was that the right word? Oh well, she was extremely happy for sure. Good thing she was his cousin, too, or Gwen's lance would probably have a thing or two to say to her. She gave Rayl a soft poke in the back. "Are you going to introduce me?"

Marle didn't seem as disturbed as Clair would be, half was because she wasn't actually here to see the dead creatures, and the other half was, because she already knew about the walking dead. No. This was something...different. Clicking her tongue in contempt, Marle's eyes narrowed a moment, and searched the table infront, as if looking for some kind of visual aid to help focus her thought.
"Yes, I've heard the stories...but that only confirms half of my findings.."
Crossing her arms, she began to pace from side to side, unable to find what she needed, and again, tried to think on exactly what it was she wanted to say.
"Those would account for the man-shaped creatures...but there are other beasts I'm afraid, from the evidence found. There are creatures with paws. They look like wolf paws from what I saw, but much bigger, and their claw impressions are substantial. I don't think the walking dead are the only twisted creatures out there."
Grumbling, mostly to herself, she began to pick up her armor, and fasten the harnesses back to herself. The plate was still wet, and it felt uncomfortable, like wet jeans in a sort. Marle picked up her weapons, holding the two lances with one hand, until she adjusted her shield onto her back.

Clair was silent while she listened to Marle speak about her findings. She hadn't heard anything about any wolves, but with what she'd seen in Ostia, she wouldn't discount it.
Clair started picking up her own armor, as the only other occupant seemed to be getting ready to head out. It seemed that things were back to work now... actually, it was time to rest for Clair. Two consecutive battles, and nearly a whole day afterwards, tending to other duties. Her eyes watered as she tried to hide a yawn.
"How far away was this?" Clair asked as she finished the far less time consuming set of latches on her own armor plates, then proceeded to lean out the tent flap and give a whistle for Corona. "If it's too close to the army, it might be good to go and see for ourselves."

Marle proceeded to follow Clair outside. She could see the younger knight was tired, and just began to shake her head, as she looked at the Pegasus that came to the girl's whistle, and gave a shy blush at it. Sometimes..she missed those creatures...Ilia was certainly proud of the superiority of the Pegasus. Even though she probably wasn't allowed, Marle went and tried to touch Corona anyways.
"It's just about a day's march from here, back north. We can stop at it if you'd like, not exactly something I'm fond of, seeking plainsmen cut down and murdered like that..."
Rubbing her eyes, her hair had just began to get dry, but it seemed futile right now. Instead Marle shrugged her heavy shoulders, and slid the lances back into their holders just behind the shield on her back.
"Go get some sleep Clair, you deserve it. I know how much it takes out of you, the fighting, that is. I'll see you tomorrow when we're prepared to leave."
With that, Marle moved close and gave her shorter friend a hug. With her heavy armor, it was probably uncomfortable, but she tried to do it regardless, and then quickly moved on, to where her tent was already set up amongst the people in her unit, where she too, would sleep.

Feeling the poke on his face, the supposed-to-be stone faced commander turned his smiling face up to the blond haired woman," Ah yes, of course." having to get formalities in order, he pulled himself and the Pegasi knight to their feet. Keeping a straight face was difficult, and he constantly had to bite his lip in an attempt to conceal laughter," Lady Guenevere, this is my Cousin, Marissa. Cousin, this is my-" he paused, and a ran a hand under his chin. What would be the proper way to address her? his thinking didn't last long and he settled with," My lady friend, Guenevere."
It still wasn't easy for him to properly address people.

Clair had to discourage Corona from nibbling on Marle... He's such mouthy thing... She nodded her head, making a non-committal "hm" noise, as she listened to her older friend. It didn't sound like something she would be fond of seeing either. The only thing that made her consider it, was the chance that they might run into the beasts in the future, and she wanted to be as aware as she could by then.
Clair returned her friends hug in kind, ignoring the clanking, and the hard plates. "It's good to see you again, Marle. I'll see you tomorrow." Clair wasn't sure about whether they'd be leaving tomorrow. They'd been through a lot, but people who got things done didn't sit on their hands.
As Marle moved off, Clair pulled herself aboard Corona for the short ride across camp to where her tent would be pitched. Once there, she'd need to un-tack Corona, and do one last check over to make sure he was alright. Pegasi need taken care of too, after all. Then she'd have to take her armor off, work on herself a bit and ...well, she fell asleep with only one boot off. Good night Clair.
