Marle met Garnet's response with a level, but unimpressed look at...was it a joke? If that was what it was, she was not impressed. Though it was true all the same regardless. Brown hair whipped infront of her as the wind rushed, and carried to sound of the howls forward to where she was. She could not see the animals, but she knew what they were. She had reports of them when she had traveled south into Sacae. These were the monster wolves everyone was calling Doom Wolves.
Suddenly, Marle felt a yanking at her ankle, and she was caught by surprise, as her head turned, and saw that many-times impaled zombie now clawing at her boot, and pulling itself closer. With eyes wide with shock, Marle gave a yell, and spun, bringing her other leg around and gave the dead body a powerful kick to the head, which sent the head back with the force, but nowhere near dislocating it. Instead, she turned the bloody spear tip down, and thrust the point through the bone and flesh both, pinning the creature's head to the ground, as it flailed for a moment, then stopped. For added concern towards it's death, she gave a wretched twist of the lance's blade, and with no further movement, she was finished.
"Powers be damned...I swear I...re-killed it! This is..."
Marle gave a pause, as distinct growling from behind her. As her troops were being felled, and killing what they could, often in groups at a time, dead bodies being pin-cushioned by arrows, the creatures were not letting up. Slowly, however, Marle faced the sound, and saw the fur-shedded wolf behind her, salivating on her direction with blood red eyes. The knight seemed frozen with fear. They were not only hideous, they were terrifying. As Marle reached for her shield, the creature ran at a sprint. As soon as the young knight had shield in hand, the creature was there, and was blocked just in time as her shield came infront, and knocked her back with the force and the weight behind it.

Mavick almost laughed. "True? Oh, it's true. I was there." he bitterly replied. "You have to damage their head! Stab them in the head!, or at least cripple them untill they can't move! And then...!" Mavick remembered what they had done last time. "Fire! Use fire! Burn them to ash!" Of all the times to wish he was an Anima mage.
"Captain, we-" Mavick turned around, only to see Marle, with nothing but a shield between her and a very hungry demon wolf. "Get off her!" he roared, redirecting the darkness again, this time to flow into the wolf like a battering ram.

Garnet cringed as he saw the wretched monster at the Captain's feet begin clawing at her again. It had returned from the dead. Again. She holed it through a few more times, severing the spine, before it finaly seemed to stop for good.
He heard Mavick's explanation of how to kill the walking dead. Anything would work for him. Any information was better than the current zilch that he had....
The hero grimaced again as the growl of a wolf sounded over the noise of battles elsewhere. He'd seen these doom wolf creatures before, but the ones he encountered had had eyes that seemed to glow a fiercer red, and their fur had been in considerably worse shape. Thankfully, the knight had managed to raise her shield in time to avoid the fangs and claws against her. Spittle flew from the creature's maw, and landed, smoking, on the shield. It wasn't to last though. The swordsman watched in amazement as a pillar of blackness seemed formed, and slammed its way into the wolf, knocking it aside.
Several more of the death hounds came sprinting in from out of view, spreading out to surround their prey, and outflank it. This prey had teeth though. Garnet moved forward, positioning himself on the far side of the Captain from the mage, and worked on baiting in one of the horrid creatures.
"Mavick! Stay between me and the Captain, so I can watch your backs!" Hopefully, that would be enough to get the plan across to the other two present.
His holler was punctuated by the sound of a doom wolf hitting the ground after being swatted from a leaping charge by the hero's iron blade. It writhed for a moment before scampering back to its feet, and hopping back, impatiently circling alongside the other wolves around them. In the distance, Garnet could see another small cluster of walking dead wandering in their general direction. This was too much to deal with. The craziness of it all left his limbs feeling leaden.

Marle didn't have to deal with the weight of the creature for long, before Mavick, with the strength of his magic, blew the creature away, much to her amazement. She knew how strong that type of magic was, but still, she would always remain amazed by something she could never understand. Marle fixed herself in the meanwhile, bringing her large shield around to the point that it was in a clear defensive stance, and her lance raised over it, pointing out in a barricade formation, pinning the smaller mage between herself, and Garnet.
"Thank you, Mavick..."
She let out an exasperated, though grateful, thanks. Though this was clearly not close to being over just then, she felt obliged, and would continue to, thank those. Across the battlefield that was the ruined village, she could hear orders ringing out, shouts, screams and yells from those still fighting.
The creature that Mavick had dealt with was already on it's return, as if unphased by the brutal nature of the attack that had just hit it. That was simply unbelievable, a normal man would have easily died from that. Frantically looking around, she could see soldiers being pushed back by the droves of dead, and she yelled out to those who could hear.
"All to me! Rally! To me!"
Thankfully, the dead were so slow, that it allowed soldiers to run to her position, but tight fighting continued, being slowed by those infront of them. As the Doomwolf rounded on her again, two arrows from archers on a slight incline were firing at different targets, landed in the side of the Doomwolf. It seemed not to pay any mind, as it lunged at her again, but she was ready this time, and drove her lance out, nicking the creature on the front left leg, before it bounced back, and gave a guttural snarl.

As more soldiers joined their position, it allowed Garnet more freedom of motion throughout the cluster. No longer was it only the three of them: himself, Mavick, and the Captain. The red-haired man moved up and down along the line, stepping out and striking a heavy blow when he got the opportunity, and falling back when a pair of wolves double teamed him or too many dead were clustered about.
Garnet saw the Captain taking on one of the wolves again as he was facing his own opponents. The wolves seemed far more dangerous than the walking corpses already. While the corpses were persistant, they could be killed... rendered inert, by a destructive blow to the head. The wolves however seemed far more resistant to blades. One had to truly stick them good for a doomwolf to go down.
Even over all the battle, and strong winds, The mercenary hero could make out a new sound. It was like a hissing, rattling scrabbling sound, as if many bones were being scraped along a cliffside somewhere. Wordless shouts, or growls arose from the back of the zombie hoard, and the swordsman saw yet another sight out of a nightmare.
"Now there are SKELETONS?! When will this end!"
Skeletons, some missing a few bones, but mostly formed, were marching, jogging, or running in from the back of the group, and the walking dead seemed to part like a river for them. They weren't unarmed either. These monsterous beings had picked up whatever they could find to use as a weapon: Spears, swords, axes, even a wooden board, when no other weapon was available. Garnet watched. He had long since stopped trying to react to things as if they made sense. Now there was only one rule: Smash the enemy.
One of the skeletons approached, shoving a zombie along in front of it befor it raised it's spear and thrust it towards Garnet. In the tight quarters, it was difficult to maneuver his blade, but the swordsman managed to shove the spear aside before shattering the zombie's head. Now he could reach the skeleton with the spear.... Except another walking corpse stode forward and started grappling with him, trying to break the redhead's grip on his weapon.
"Let loose, d*mm*t!"

With soldiers now returning into one area, it helped everyone out, with covering each other properly. Still, there really was no lines, it was more a giant melee, a cluster of fighting, soldiers fighting back to back, and in formations, cutting down those they could, with archers overhead, slinging arrows at the undead constructs.
Marle had heard from Aaron, that there were, did he say Skeletons? Marle wanted to look for them, but she had to be careful. unlike the risen corpses, these wolves were very dangerous, they were fast, agile, and they seemed to have a measurable sense of intelligence, much like a wolf. Every time she went to strike, the wolf would dance around her attack, and launch one of it's own.
As this time, Marle thrust, and hit only snow. The wolf took advantage of this, and lept at her once more, but Marle knew how these things fought, and since it couldn't circle behind her, it had to attack from the front, which was tricky against a knight. Marle had her shield raised, and met the Wolf full force, slamming her shield into it's opened mouth and nose, and sent the thing tumbling to the ground. Marle took initiative, before the creature could stand back up, and lanced down at it's neck as it flailed, and with a fair amount of strength, pushed the full length of the steel past that hard, thick leather skin it wore.
The creature still snarled, and tried to claw and snap at her feet, though the claws on the beast reached her, she was well armored, her sabatons were only scratched at, but never punctured. The young knight twisted the blade of her lance slowly, but stopped at the sight of a sword coming for her head. With quick moves, she angled the long handle of her lance out to block the blow of the notched blade, and saw the lifeless bones adorned in some light armor, with a sword. So Garnet was right.
Wasting no time, Marle Kept her lance still in it's position, fighting to keep the creature down as it bled on the ground though it's two sided wound, and raised her leg to kicked the skeleton back, making it travel a small distance, as it then fell, and quickly scrambled up. Marle withdrew her lance, and fell back to the battle lines once more.
"There's no end to them..." Marle breathed laboriously as she withdrew behind a few soldiers who now took up her position. "But we will win..."

The corpse continued grappling with Garnet, gripping the swordsman's two-handed blade in a dead-fingered frip of iron. Despite all the jerking and impacts from the swordsman, he was unable to dislodge the zombie's grip. Its strength was.... Well, it was the strongest corpse he'd ever fought against. Its head lolled forward, jaws working as it pressed in against him, until the swordsman managed to angle his blade down, into the body's neck, and drag it downward. The iron blade ripped its way through the corpse's neck, severing the head before the body dropped to the ground.
Swords, lances, and claws flashed all around Garnet. Wolves were running underfoot, lunging and tearing at the soldiers who fell. It was all the hero could to to keep his footing, and keep from being taken to the snowy ground.
The brown-haired captain, from earlier was fighting formidably. He saw her pin one of the wolves to the ground through the throat, while kicking away a skeleton attacking her. Garnet himself was soon engaged by a skeleton armed with a pair of swords. It's thrusts and slashes came in a flurry, challenging him to keep up with the barrage. The heavy leather coat he wore saved him several times from having his guts spilled in the frost, but it helped less when protecting him from the weapon's impacts. The clanging of blows ringing off the red-head's twohander filled his mind as he shifted it and his body to maintain a defense, only a few blows landing past his guard, and on his coat.
Releasing his weapon's handle with his left hand, he reached over and grabbed a corpse around the throat, slinging it into his skeleton enemy, and causing them both to go sprawling across the ground. The twohander was too unwieldy for the fighting he was getting into, so he dropped it while slipping his shield off his back, and ripping his slim sword from the sheath at his side.
He moved through the battle, looking for any targets that presented themselves to him. Eventually, he found himself fighting near the armored captain from before. Seeing a sword flashing towards him, he raised his shield and punched it forward. The skeleton's sword stuck partly into his shield, before Garnet raised his sword and made a downward cut, knocking the skeleton's sword to the ground. The thing rushed him anyway, grabbing his shield and trying to pull it down.

The young knight had no time to set about resting up. Though she panted heavily under the well insulated armor playing, she strode back into battle, pushing past some soldiers who were rallying and protecting their archers. There were men in the background yelling orders, and insults galore, this wasn't surprising. She had been taught that yelling and cursing was a great way to relieve stress, give confidence, and withstand pain. Lifting her arms, and in turn, her lance and shield, she moved between the ranks of fighting men, and back to the fight, where she saw Garnet fighting the skeletal monsters.
On her way, one of them came in front of her with an axe, a simple woodsman's axe for that matter raised, and nearly caught her off guard. The thing swung at her, and Marle took a step back, letting it crash downwards without hitting her. The creature was too close to engage with her lance, and immediately her lance came up, and smacked it across the jaw in an uppercut. Even with the crude weapon it had, the thing was...surprising light, not having any mass on it except for mere bones.
Though the skeleton went up, and hit the ground, it scrambled back up, and began to move in human fluidity, swinging that axe again and again. Marle hid behind her shield for the time being, feeling the slams of it into the metal shield and pushing her back a little with every strike. Sadly, the lack of muscles on the thing didn't make it any weaker as she noticed. After the third attack, she turned her shield a bit, and let the attack glance off, giving her and opening as she surged forward, and brought her knee forwards, hitting it in the bony pelvis enough to make the skeleton bounce back, and with her lance, she lunged out as she took a step back to make the room. Her blade went between the thing's ribs, but struck by her cross-guard, which impacted it's chest and knocked it back, making it drop it's boney grip on the weapon.
Again, it rose, but Marle was ready this time, and swung her lance from the side, and took it in the neck, severing it's head from it's spine, and it didn't rise any more. Moving towards Garnet now at a trot, she saw that he was no wrestling with another undead being, wrestling with his shield. With a smirk, Marle Rose her lance into the air, and before the thing even saw her, she bright it down on it's arms, easily breaking them, and then, as if using her lance as a lever, she put both arms into it, and tossed the construct back to give Garnet some time to retain his stance, as she slid next to him.
"Relentless, aren't they?"

Thanks to the bonewalker's light weight, the red headed swordsman was able to keep the skeleton moving too much to be able to pull to hard on him, but it still slowed his movements. Then, a lance fell from above, snapping the arms. The hero looked, and saw the Captain standing there, throwing the bonewalker back and away from him.
"Relentless." Garnet agreed. "Like a dog on a bone."
The swordsman smashed his shield into the body of a corpse nearing another soldier, and watched as the thing tilted like a tree before falling over.
"What do you say we have a little game then, eh?" Garnet shouted over the fighting all around, prying the skeletal fingers off his shield. "You and I break a path, straight ahead, to that burning building, and then we see how well these things burn!"
Ahead, he saw a combination of bonewalkers, walking dead, and the odd wolf or two. Alone, he wouldn't have a chance, but with all the soldiers here, they could forge through the forces.
"Your bookeeper said corpses burn." Garnet readied his shield, hiding the tip if his sword just under his shield, and readied for a charge.

Marle's head perked up a bit as she heard the mercenary's suggestion for a game. She would be lying if she said she was not interested. With a grin, the girl went wide eyed as another corpse came towards her, the slow walking dead dragging it's lame leg, and crashed it's arm down on her shield, and gripped it. With a bit of a cry, she fought back against that unnatural strength, as the shield was more or less attached to her arm through the slings.
"G-Get off!"
Twisting her arm back in an uncomfortable manner, she managed to get it to slip it's grip, and she buckled her shoulder behind the shield, and knocked the thing back as another soldier pounced on top of it and sever'd its head, before being ran through be a skeleton's sword.
"That could work...if there's oil there to light them aflame with. I highly doubt these people will just burst to flame if we toss a stick with a flame at them."
Marle seemed to laugh at that, a bad time as ever to laugh, but it was more the stress getting to her than finding something humorous in this horror. With a nod of her head, she too, readied herself Shield in front, and lance in beside it, ready to strike.
"Alright, lets do it!"
Once Garnet was ready, she took to charging at the one building she knew he was talking about. Only a few steps in, she brushed aside a zombie with her shield, but there was still a distance to go.

Garnet started his own charge as the Captain did, letting loose a fierce battle cry across the fields. It had been a long time since he'd been in a pitched battle like this, but he could still remember the fury which accompanied men like his uncle, who had fought in many battles. Those were the men the hero had learned from. If the foes before them were capable of feeling fear, they surely would have stepped back from the assault of his voice alone.
Pulling back with his left arm, the swordsman threw his shield forward in a punch, cracking the ribs off of the skeleton he hit with the edge of his shield. Before pulling back again, and battering it to the side. Blades flashed in, banging against the shield he held in front of him. Occasionally, his would flash out, in an attempt to disable or destroy an opponent. A pair of foaming doomwolf jaws launched themselves at him, the creature behind the jaws poised to rake him with it's claws. A quickly placed sword through the mouth put and end to that, though, even with Garnet's slim sword sticking out through theback of the creatures neck, its claws still managed to rake through his coat, and leave small cuts on his arm underneath.
It got tougher as they pushed forward, but they were making progress breaking out. Being attacked on the fron and sides made things more hectic, but he just made sure to keep his side covered and pres forward, trusting the Captain to watch her own corners.WAIT! - There was an opening. A corpse falling back from a bump with tha Captain. His sword shot out, planting itself in the frozen forhead of the monster, before it turned to look at him and then fell backwards, off of his weapon. That had to have been one of the creepiest moments he'd ever had, not counting the start of this fight.

The assault of Garnet's voice wasn't just shocking to a possible enemy, it did the same for her, she would have moved away from him, possibly, or atleast readied herself, if that was coming for her. Thankfully, he was astride her, but she winced until he stopped. Marle was more calm, and quiet, she would prefer to intimidate her enemy with act of nonchalant posturing. At first, she knew they would not notice, but when she easily took someone down, they then would know what they were up against. Unfortunately for her, and Garnet, their ways of going into battle were moot to an enemy which feared nothing psychological.
Garnet wasn't wearing as much armor as she was, so she had a little harder time to keep up at first, but once they reached the quagmire that was the battle, things slowed down as she strainingly pushed into the ranks that were closing up on her and Garnet, bumping the man as she tried to keep her ground. If only she had a sword, or an axe, this would be easier for her to fight off. Lances had a tendency to get stuck in those they impaled. Nevertheless Marle as one of the zombie creatures grabbed, and started pulling at her shield arm. Rocking her body in a small motion, she pushed the thing's steely grip off of her, and followed through with a quick jab, holding much closer on the lance than she would have liked, to make up for the close quarters.
It seemed like time stopped still as she pushed on, but they couldn't afford to slow down, lest they be encircled and killed. Already, the gap behind them was closing up, but soldiers from the back were fighting to try and kill the monsters that had taken the...bait...so it seemed. Their backs were turned, and a fair majority had centered on the Hero and Knight. In a way, it was a plus.
Marle gave a yell as something clamped onto her leg as a doomwolf's teeth sank past her plated boots, and bit her. She could feel it's teeth in her calf, and started to shake her off her feet. Turning her lance a bit, she hit it in the eye with the butt of her lance, which got it to let go, and was soon impaled through the head with another quick spin of her lance. It was a fight to even push the blade past the skin, not to mention the skull. She didn't get a full on penetration though, and the thing was still alive, though in some pain, if they could feel it.
Marle tried to remain strong as continued on her foot, with an obvious hobble. She hoped they were near that building now...

As they charged in, and the monsters fell in behind the pair, things got progressively more difficult for Garnet. His back armor was limited to a heavy coat, unlike the knight he was fighting next to. He had to remain aware of every attack coming at him from all directions. He wasn't a god of war. He was no ancient sensei master dodging swordsman. No.... Garnet's style of fighting involved avoiding and blocking what you could, and taking the rest. Thankfully, there weren't that many weapons flashing around. The skeletons seemed fewer than the corpses.
Pushing forward with the intent of smashing through their stall, Garnet brought his shield in front of him, and rammed forward, supporting it by pressing his other arm up against it as well. He made some progress, pushing back some of the creatures, but they only continued groping at him, their unearthly moaning wearing away at his nerves and patience. Something grabbed at his shield, and he hewed the arm off at the elbow. A moment later, when something else grabbed at his sword arm, he swung the shield into it, knocking it away.
Even with his strength and tenacity, built over a career as a sword fighter, Garnet was growing weaker. The many light injuries he was incurring were slowing him down, and all the pressing through the swamp of dead limbs was wearing on him.
He felt himself being reinvigorated when he heard the Captain's cry. No time to be tired now. His partner was in trouble. It was a feeling he'd only known a few times since he'd been in the guard corp. He stepped forward, ignoring fatigue, and took the full point position, striking with enough precision to sever dead heads, and the hands that reached for him. Hopefully, the Captain would be able to recover a bit, with the time he was buying her. A doom wolf tried to slip in past his guard, and go for his legs, but the mercenary hero swung his shield downward like an axe, and hit the thing with his shield.
The numbers seemed to be giving way. Probably because they were nearing the building, and it was on fire. Or, maybe there was just less room. Point was, they were almost there.

Marle was quite appreciative as Garnet took the full lead of things now. She was striking out at her sides, cutting into bodies left, and striking bodies right with her lance. She could feel the heat of the flames now, they were definitely close. She just thought of something as they neared...what were they going to do when they got there? They hadn't actually set out a whole plan... Her army seemed so far away right now.
As she limped behind Garnet, she felt something grab at her shield again, but before she could react, it was violently yanked, and the straps for her arm snapped off, and down went her shield. Marle nearly tumbled over as this happened, many of the creatures must have ripped it off at once to do so...or the straps were getting worn down the entire battle from the constant tugging. Either way, her shield was gone now.
Suddenly, a hand came out of seemingly nowhere amongst the mass, and caught her in the face, nails scratching her, causing her to quietly endure the pain. It wasn't much of an injury, but it caused her to bleed all the same. Lashing out in vengeance, Marle thrust full strength into corpse, and then, using both arms on her lance now, she tossed it aside, ripping her blade clean of it's side.
There was the building. The rabble of corpses broke open, and Marle limped towards the burning wreckage, all around were plots of flame, as if the ground was burning. Behind the chaos, her army was closing the gap, fighting creatures and striking them down from behind as they took interest in Garnet and Marle, though some still fought facing them, their number was decreasing faster than the number her own was. They would win, but Marle didn't know that, she was trapped here now. Reaching down, she picked up a piece of lumber that was burning, and used it as a baton, striking a corpse three times, before it's close began to burn, and the linen, cold as it was, burned quick. Kicking it back with her bad leg made her cry in pain once again, as she hobbled back, looking to Garnet.
"Argh...damnation..." She growled through the pain as she tried not to kneel down, her armor feeling like one-hundred tons now "..So what now? If I had oil, I'd coat my lance's tip in the stuff..."

Garnet pushed forward, limbs working like a machine in a deadly game of "swat every threat". It was a game with many targets, and if victory was gained by hitting the majority of available targets, then the mercenary hero was losing. Quickly, it shifted to a game more focused on knocking the enemies directly ahead out of his path, and stepping forward before the wolves, corpses, or skeletons behind could get at him and the Captain.
The fires.... They seemed to keep the creatures back as he got nearer to the building, and took assessment. He'd been battered to pieces by that last push, and his shield arm felt like it was about to fall off after all that punching and pushing. He wasn't used to fighting with a full sized shield yet, and it was wearing him down quicker. His coat had helped in many cases, but wolf claws had penetrated the sleeve in a few places, leaving oozing trails of his own blood dripping down his arm. The stung like mad, but he'd live. The Captain wasn't in good shape either, having been bitten in the leg, and scratched up in the face, not to mention having lost her shield in the mess.
He realized their plight a little after the Captain had: They really had no plan aside from getting here. Now that they were here, all they had was a bunch of fire around them, and enemies trying to come at them through the gaps in the flames. The swordsman watched as the knight picked up a flaming rod and swing it into one of the corpses, before kicking it back, its clothes beginning to burn.
"Careful there. Try not to aggravate that leg anymore.... I don't know-" He cut off as the burning corpse was rising. It didn't get very far though, before it was burning like a bonfire, it kept on staggering towards the pair, along with the others, and caught a few more zombies on fire as it tried to press in at the pair.
"But that seems to work." Garnet sheathed his slim sword, and took his shield in both hands: one on the grip, and the other on the arm strap. Ready with his impromptu battering ram, he charged ahead and smashed it straight into a burning corpse, knocking it to the ground further in under the others approaching. The shaft of a skeletons lance nicked him in his right arm, scraping back his coat again, and taking a fair amount of skin with it. He growled at the pain, but didn't let it stop him. A fair few of the corpses were burning now, and they burned hot and fast. Some of the first were already nothing more than ashes.
The creatures were foiled. With them near the flames, the hero and knight could take shelter, and use the ground as a chokepoint, while setting the zombies aflame.
Some of the skeletons stopped their mindless approach and stared at the flames for a bit. They looked curious, in a sort of bestial, mindless way. Slowly, one of them stepped forward, into the flames, and began to cross to the two fighters. Seeing it relatively unharmed, a few more of the skeletons joined the first, crossing straight through the flames to get to their prey.
Unknowing of this at first, the hero spotted an axe coming to split him in two at the last moment, and managed to raise his shield to the enemy. It stoppe the axe, but the force of the weapon drove the shield into the hero's head with enough force to stun him, knocking him back and to the ground.
