Veigue could tell that he obviously caused her to be startled from his action. But after witnessing her snap the man's neck, he was sure that he was wrong about her hesitating earlier. But it was his natural instinct to act, not wanting anything bad possibly happening to someone right in front of him. He always seemed to do that when someone appeared to be in trouble. But what's done was done. There wasn't any need to dwell any further.
But the situation now calmed. As they conversed, he couldn't help but arch an eyebrow out of confusion for a second. He didn't necessarily understand what she meant when she first responded. But he was pretty sure she was just joking around.
"Oh, I'm sorry for startling you. That tends to...happen a lot." he was shamed to say. "But these three bandits in particular...no, I haven't encountered them before. But I am, for some reason, being pursued by those possibly affiliated with them. I have yet to find out why..."
He then rubbed the back of his head when he received the small compliment. He really didn't know what to say. When it came to receiving a bit of praise, he seemed to lack words of gratitude other than, "...Thank you." before hearing some footsteps beside him.
The other man had come by. That was pretty fast. Veigue had to look over to bandit he was fighting and merely was surprised. He was dead, no doubt about that. Both of these travelers seemed to possess some sort of supernatural physical strength. They weren't the average fighters, and that was a fact. While he admired their skill, he wondered where they came from in the first place. But they were travelers after all. They could have came from anywhere.
But Veigue decided to answer the other traveler's question. With his family's fighting style being passed down in secrecy, there was only a limited amount he could explain to keep the secrets concealed. Otherwise, he'd break his oath to never exploit unless necessary.
"It's a fighting style passed down throughout my family. I'm unable to speak much of it, unfortunately. But I've learned everything I know from my...father."
It pained him on the inside to call that man his father. While he shouldn't feel much ill towards the deceased, he couldn't help BUT remember the hatred...but that despised man was the basis of his skill and he had to respect that no matter what. He actually needed to give his sister the more credit for being the real teacher who patched things up for him when he was neglected by his father.
But that's just old wound licking. He tried to throw all that behind him when he first set off for his journey. It was now time to focus on the task at hand. There were only three bandits...but where were the others? There had to be more than just this small bunch. They usually come in packs. But something caught the corner of his eye. The bandit he first fought and spared was still alive! He could see the tyrant rising from the ground and getting ready to charge at him from behind. He merely sighed before using his thumb to slightly draw the blade and grabbing the hilt just as he performed a quick turn around and rushing at his enemy.
The bandit didn't seem like he could go on much longer anyway, as it was obvious that his wounds he received from the swordsman were slowing him down. He even had a big opening in the center that was visible and clear as day. He just seemed to be too fixated on getting revenge. Once again taking advantage of this, Veigue had drawn his blade completely and closed in as they both made a halt in front of each other. Then with one back flip to dodge the brute's axe, he darted himself back in and sliced as fast as he could three times aiming at his enemy's vital points.
As he watched the bandit fall and die instantly, he closed his eyes right after and swung his blade once beside him before sliding it back in it's scabbard.
"You were nothing but a slave to whomever is after me....rest in peace." he said to himself in his mind. He then slowly walked away afterward.
That's just how things were. He couldn't save every life he found when he engaged them in battle. They will continue to be persistent and put their life on the line to make sure he's dead, so he has to respect their resolve and show no mercy. Not only will it hurt him if he held back on them, but it would inflict damage upon his enemy's pride. Veigue sees it as a weakness to a certain extent, but holds onto life quite earnestly and will do what it takes to survive to see the day he meets his goals.
Now arriving back at the travelers, the Sacaen swordsman hadn't even gotten their names yet. The conflict seemed to be over...for now. But he knows that there are more bandits around here somewhere. He just had to be patient. Call it a hunch.
"Excuse my sudden attack again...but now that this battle has concluded, is it all right if I asked for your names?"

"What a... desperate, hateful vocation." The silver dragoness shook her head slightly at the scene, standing unmoving as the remaining bandit rushed their new companion, and was in turn cut down for his trouble. "If only they could channel that determination and focus into more worthwhile pursuits. Rather than merely surviving - living." Nayru held little fondness for bandits and their ilk, but it had always bothered her how well they represented the craven weakness and bloodlust in humanity; their innate need to survive was understandable, but doing so at the expense of others was unforgivable. Perhaps it was merely an institution of a broken world, or perhaps it spoke to a fundamental flaw in humanity that would need to be purged entirely. Perhaps it was merely a noble urge expressed the wrong way, but then these sorts did not take well to re-education.
It was curious that they seemed to be actually pursuing this "Veigue;" in her experience these sorts usually only did so if they felt that someone had significantly wronged them or wanted something from that individual. Not entirely her business, though, she supposed.
Not that that stopped curiosity from winning out, of course.
Cocking her head to the side slightly, she regarded the human for a few moments, before continuing with her natural curiosity evident in her tone - an innocent search for knowledge, rather than accusation, in her words. "Have you any inkling of why they might be hunting you? It seems uncharacteristic of their type unless you possess something of worth to them-" she smiled lightly, "Besides the obvious of your sword arm, of course." He did certainly seem to be unusually skilled; perhaps that was a facet of the issue?
"However, I digress. My name is Nayru. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Veigue"

Aerious nodded. A secret family style? He'd seen such things a few times before, and knew better then to push the issue. Humans could be stubborn like that.
[red]"Right, names. Call me Aerious, we just happened to be passing through. A pair of...I guess one might call us historians?"[/red] He said with a coy smile. [red]"At any rate, I must admit that like my companion here I am quite interested in the 'why' of these attacks. All great stories from history start with small events like this, perhaps this will be the start of another grand story to be told in future generations! Would be a crime to not see how the story starts."[/red] He said, dusting off his hands after the particularly violent combat.
This human was interesting. An odd mesh of polite and aloof at the same time. Could be the classic notion of wanting to do things themselves. But centuries around humans had taught him that the really interesting ones were unpredictable.

With the battle being over for now, Veigue took the time to place his sword back on the left side of the belt around his waist that kept his robe properly tied. Afterwards, he crossed his arms and began to ponder to himself as he listened to them and began thinking back on past events that could possibly lead to being hunted. As much as he wanted to give them the answers they seek, he himself hadn't the slightest clue as to why bandits of all people would want his head. Even he admits that this is too strange. Their attack patterns were completely different than the average bandits, which caught him off guard in the beginning of this mess. Even as he stood on the plains, more were most likely on the way.
But he couldn't just leave them hanging. If anything, maybe it was fate that he ran into them. It sometimes takes more than one brain to figure situations out like this. And since Aerious said they were historians, their knowledge would be a great asset for an answer.
"To be honest, I'm clueless. But I will say that thinking back...their persistence in going after my life instead of my family's sword, which I have on me, started roughly a year ago. But right now, I was hired to take out bandits that apparently attacks the village ahead frequently...but instead, they came to me." he tried his best to explain, maintaining his usual serious facial expression. He had to be more descriptive and more detailed to at least give them a better response than "I don't know". Saying something like that in such a manner would seem rude. "...Around that time, I remember having a run-in with an odd mercenary. I can't recall much on that situation, but after the incident...I found myself being attacked by random bandits a lot more often. I'd hate to think I'm being hunted solely out of revenge...but with bandits involved, it could be anything. A mercenary hiring bandits is highly unlikely...in fact, a mercenary doing the hiring is even more doubtful."
This made Veigue realize something else. The person he took the job request from in the village was definitely a ragged looking person. While he wasn't particularly dressed like a bandit, he had characteristics and bearings of one. So if anything, it's proof enough that he was still in the danger zone at that very moment. Just who in the world are these bandits to use tactics like this? He began to wonder if someone else is pulling the strings around here...but the problem was that he didn't want to have Aerious and Nayru possibly caught in the crossfire of his apparent enemies. Despite their skill, it was just his natural feelings to worry about others who may end up involved in his own problems one way or another.
"But I will say that if I am truly being hunted, then your lives would be in danger as well, since you fought alongside me...but I still appreciate your help here." Veigue then looked the other way before concluding, changing expression to a more depressed-like stare into space. He felt powerless and shamed at the fact that he couldn't do much more other than guess. "However, the ones we fought are dead and can't possibly go back to their allies, so you both are okay for now. I'm sorry to have you wrapped up in this."
He also didn't forget that he'd possibly be fighting a horde of those fools soon. Even though the request was obviously a trap for him, but bandits are bandits. When they see a defenseless village, they'll raid it. Though if their priority is his head, then they might come to him first before destroying the village. He actually wanted to ask his two new acquaintances for more of their help, but he didn't want them to end up on these mysterious bandits' wanted list. This was going to be one of the toughest battles he's had in a long time...
He then realized one last thing: He just lost out on 500 gold. Damned bandits.

"If I must surrender my life, I would rather it in pursuit of a noble cause." Her words were sincere, but the dragoness's smile was steel, her eyes hard as diamond, her stance stiff. This whole situation was bothering her, and in Elly's absence she needed something to occupy her mind anyways. "-But in my dedication to something greater, I refuse to be brought low by the dregs of humanity." It was as simple as that; not until she could see humanity driven towards something greater would she lay down the torch - or her life. In the meantime, there was much to do.
"Regardless." Nayru's smile was softer, now, closer to genuine, but it did not reach her eyes. "I am not that easy to bring low. If I can be of some aid in this, I would offer it." Veigue certainly didn't seem to be lying, but she would be lying if she said she understood it. Bandits avoided those capable of defending themselves, preying on the weak and defenseless when possible; mercenaries, in turn, generally only pursued those they were paid to. While greed could motivate either, if they didn't seem to be hunting for his sword - what could bring either to hunt him so?
Still. They might find clues in the future, but there were other considerations. "Are there villages in the vicinity that might be in danger? If those three were to attack you openly, it is not unlikely that more of their fellows are in the area."

Aerious listened to Magnus' story with interest. [red]"Well well! It seems like you are at the center of a great and impressive story! I think it would be very beneficial for us to see how this pans out, if you do not mind our company of course. And don't worry about us, we historians are quite tough."[/red] He said, managing to succeed in not laughing. The entire exchange was somewhat ludicrous, he had to agree. For this human, the issues he was discussing were matters of great importance, but to Aerious and (he assume) Nayru, they were just a temporary diversion. One brick of a thousand mile path. But every brick needed to be set correctly, or the entire path would fall apart.
At Nayru's suggestion, Aerious nodded in agreement. [red]"From experience, they do tend to enjoy diversionary tactics. Perhaps it would be wise to check up on the town and make sure this wasn't them trying to distract you while they did something else? They usually aren't that clever, but it can throw you off when they suddenly become so."[/red]

Veigue turned his attention back to the two historians as they spoke again. It was good that they came to an understanding, even if what he said didn't make that much sense. So he thought anyway. He didn't have much to say in response. All he did was smile slightly and replied with, "Thanks."
When Nayru asked him about the village, he nodded in response. It was certainly in danger. And as Aerious pointed out, he should go back and check on the village. Even though nothing was going on at the moment, the crazy bastards would find away to throw him off balance like they did earlier with their surprise appearance. He wasn't going to let that happen again.
Before he could say anything else, Veigue witnessed some heavy smoke rising from the village ahead and into the sky from the corner of his eye. Speak of the devil...
"...Well, you were right about the village, Aerious." he said, sighing heavily afterwards then slowly pulling his sword back out as he inched closer to the end of the hill. "Damn it. How could I get so careless...?
That could have been something else, but he wasn't just going to stand by and let the village set ablaze. Not on his watch anyway. He had enough of these bandits and their tactics. When they involve innocent lives that have nothing to do with anything, he and his blade had no mercy for them any longer. He crouched down slightly before leaping in the air and flipping down the hill until he landed hard on his feet. He couldn't move for a few seconds, as he took in the impact of the fall. Afterwards, he sprinted off as fast as he could towards the village.
It was pretty reckless to go off on his own without Aerious and Nayru, but he didn't want to allow those bandits have their way even for a second. Seeing their axes cut down unsuspecting villagers was a painful thought...he had his fair share in seeing ravaged villages after raids he couldn't do anything about. His current job was a fake...but he felt it was his duty to protect these people instead of it being a task.
He soon halted after seeing a Hand Axe fly straight past his face! He barely evaded it, as it hit a strand of his hair. He looked to his right, instantly spotting a bandit jumping from another bush, while another leaping from the adjacent bush. Veigue stood still, waiting for them to approach.
When they did, the one who threw the axe dashed in with another close ranged axe and swung it quickly to the side. Veigue parried and knocked him off, but the other man took this chance to bring his axe down on the swordsman. Veigue turned around as quick as possible and blocked the attack, causing them both to lock weapons in complete halt, trying to overpower one another. Yeah, darting off alone was a bad idea...

And there he went. As soon as he saw the smoke, he turned and charged head first. The folly of youth, he supposed. Though the kid did have some skill, that jump wasn't something a normal person would have done easily. And he did it without a second thought, and only a moment to recover. That required a good sense of one's body limits. Speaking of body limits...
[red]"I noticed you were having a bit of trouble restraining yourself back there. Maybe you should sit this fight out? After all, I'm sure I can handle what the kid can't."[/red] He said, looking over towards the plume of smoke. Nayru had been very...restrained about using her power. Not controlled though, no. Every time she used it, it was like she was learning to walk for the first time. She simply chose not to use it instead of trying to control it. This was bothersome. For what reason would a dragon choose to deny their own birthright? Well, perhaps it was time for another glance into how well she could actually control it.
Without another moments pause, Aerious grabbed her hand and jumped. His power propelled him a good deal further then the youth had gone, making the fall also a good deal larger. She'd have precious little time to regulate her power to avoid breaking her legs or smashing the ground into dust. He managed to reach a nice happy medium, throwing up a small cloud of dust from his landing, but not shattering stone.
He noticed, with some humor, that the one in a contest with the human saw him land, and was momentarily shocked, his arm weakening from his distraction. Aerious hadn't even needed to get into the fight, and he'd already given the kid the advantage he needed.

Veigue took advantage of the distraction provided for him, gripping his sword as tight as possible and pushing forward until he was able to knock the man's axe out of his hand. Before the man could have a chance to recover, the swordsman sprinted pass the man, but he swung his sword sideways as soon as he picked up speed, giving him a grievous wound to his side and causing him to fall over on his chest. Veigue took a slight glimpse back at Aerious and simply nodded out of thanks before darting off.
He locked on the second bandit, who seemed to know that the odds were against him. He kept taking a few steps back out of slight fear for his life. Veigue noticed this fully well, so he stopped running and stood in place, wanting to see what his opponent was going to do. It was almost like a staring contest. But the man let out a strange battle cry and turned tail towards the attacked village.
After sheathing his blade, Veigue walked beside the injured bandit. "...Answer one question for me. Who are you idiots?"
"Bah...! I ain't sayin' nothin'!" he said weakly after coughing up a bit of blood, but standing on feet and raising his axe slowly with both hands gripped on the handle. "All you need to know is that I ain't gettin' my gold until you're dead!"
...Gold? So someone IS paying these bandits to kill him. But why? Why associate with bandits instead of professional soldiers like mercenaries? Regardless, Veigue had nothing else to say. The man had predictably brought his axe down and he dodged it to his left to still be within frontal range. The sacaean sword fighter dashed in and cut him from stomach to neck with a rising upper slash. When he fell back down on his feet, the bandit's now corpse dropped backwards on the ground.
Veigue stared down on second bandit he had to kill today. He just didn't understand it. Besides the one that fled, why were they putting their lives on the line for some petty bounty on his head? Unless it must have been a high price or something. But Veigue knows that he wasn't that much of a threat for a big price for his death. It was pretty hard for him to move for some reason, despite knowing that he has a village to save right in front of him. While he's usually a man of action, he couldn't snap back into reality on his own. All he did was mumble a few words to himself before going back completely silent, "Lena...what would you do in a situation like this?"

The urge to strike was stronger than it had been in decades, an ugly, hateful sensation that burned within her breast, desecrated reason and willpower alike with omnicidal loathing. It was more the shock of realizing she had even considered it that held Nayru back from striking Aerious on the spot than conscious consideration of the ludicrous idea itself, a reaction born as much of the impending catastrophe spiraling out of control within her as being patronized, even the momentary fear of him walking away from her, forever, and wanting to ensure that could never happen. She was no delicate flower to be protected, a fragile vase that could not be exposed to the harsh truths of life; Veigue's actions earlier compounded by Aerious's words now were mere drops of fuel to the impending conflagration.
-But she refused to allow anything to be the spark that finally set all ablaze in hatred. So she stood, wordless, her hands curled halfway into fists as one arm trembled, something far from human bubbling and twisting beneath the naked skin of her right arm as though the creature wearing her flesh craved release. Fear is the mind-killer, the dragon who played at human thought to herself, repeating the mantra to calm herself. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. She would not let herself be ruled by passion, nor would weakness overcome her. For her own sake, but as much for Elly, and for Aerious. That either of them came up in her thoughts gave her pause, distracted her from the issue at hand - why? - but she held fast.
Each verse of the mantra flowed through her consciousness and was repeated, providing structure within turbulence; repetitive, but blessed form to hold onto. By the time the moment had passed and her eyes snapped open, Veigue and Aerious had already taken care of the issue, executing the last survivor after what she suspected was a fruitless exchange. Had they expected anything worthwhile from bandits?

Aerious watched the boy cut down the last bandit and shrugged slightly. It was no less then the scum deserved, but something about this whole situation was bothering him.
Couldn't be the bandits, they had it coming. He didn't feel anything wrong from the human either, so what was causing this unrest in him? And then, since all other factors had been eliminated, he felt the glare of eyes behind him for but a moment. Nayru...she hadn't been well since Elly took off. It was unfortunate, but there was nothing he could do about that right now. She was a big girl, she could take care of herself.
At least that was what he told himself as he took a few steps away from her to go talk to the human. [red]"Did he have anything interesting to say? They seemed to be looking for you."[/red]
Aerious could think of half a dozen reasons why, but he decided to wait for Magnus to fill in what he wanted to. He could have sworn he heard the word gold, but that really didn't answer any questions when dealing with brigands. He flexed his hand slightly, his skilled eyes examining the village off in the distance...with the one man running off towards it.
[red]"Scare a rat and it goes right back to it's hole. That's how you find the nest and wipe em all out."[/red] He spoke, keeping his eyes on the retreating man.

Veigue kept his gaze on the dead man, but he was fully aware of Aerious' approach. "He said he was going to be paid for killing me." the swordsman then turned to Aerious directly now. "I'm honestly not sure what to make of this anymore."
He stepped away just a few feet as he watched the fleeing bandit. He understood what Aerious said, as it really is best to follow him. He was going to see what was up in the village anyway. With the bandit retreating there, it's obvious enough on what's going on. He wasn't going to let this opportunity slip from him, but he saw what happened when he charged head first a few moments ago. He'd have to take it slowly. There was no telling if there were more bandits hiding out here. The closer the town, the higher the risk.
This certainly was a daring position to be in. To engage in battle with the bandits to save the villagers, adding more fuel to the fire...or do what most people do to save themselves: Run. While getting away from here as far as possible was the most logical choice to make in the eyes of most, Veigue knows that it's not very honorable at all to watch a village and it's people burn to the ground. Knowing the ones responsible for it, it was like he was being taunted to come. He was willing to take it like a real man would. While others would call it foolish, Veigue saw it as a rightful action as he placed his hand on the hilt of his sword for a brief moment.
With his mind made up, he almost felt stupid for debating with himself on something so simple. Of course it's fine to keep going. Those people have nothing to do with this vendetta someone apparently has out for him. He balled his free hand up and clenched it tightly, walking forth on the path where the bandit fled, but stopped to still be within talking range of the two travelers.
"I'd hate to keep asking you both this, as I know your minds are made up, but...do you still want to help me? This looks like it can get pretty nasty from this point on..." he couldn't help but have an uncontrolled seriousness within his tone. He could barely maintain his usual calmness, but he managed to display it decent enough. He tried to at least hide his real feelings on the matter by forcing himself to cool down.

One single solitary glint of blueish-silver, a sharp flash nearly obscured by the golden glow of the sun, was the last hint of how close Nayru had come to losing control, to losing everything she was coming to take for granted. A none-too-subtle reminder of how transient happiness could be, of the burden she and Aerious bore - and how easy it would be to hurl it all away in a single moment of weakness. The thought was sobering. Just another thing Erim had been right about. Silver glinted again in the light, much less sinister; merely light reflected in her hair this time, as she shook for an instant in silent, derisive laughter. For all she cultivated an air of bravura, of knowledge, "...I am a fool."
The curdled loathing in her words was obscured by the diminutive volume, words that barely went as far as her own ears, but it felt like the kiss of a whip on her cheek nonetheless, a stinging pain that dissolved into a pinkish tinge as she struggled to keep her composure. It was - tiring to be reminded of her inadequacies, of how well she had played the part of unwitting fool, but even learned late, they were lessons she would not soon forget. She owed that much to Erim, and a thousand thousands times more, but now there was little more she could do to honor her mentor's wisdom than attempting to live it.
...And perhaps passing it on to those who could benefit from it. Elly, for one, but Veigue seemed to have some sort of internal struggle of his own; possibly fear, disgust - it hit her after a few moments that perhaps he was holding his own anger back as well, whether at the bandits or the injustice the villagers could be going through or the horrific waste of life that had just happened, and Nayru found herself realizing that... even not knowing exactly what he was thinking, or why, she could empathize a little bit. Just a bit. She was good at reading people, but not as good at figuring out the why - but there was something in him that she could not help but respect, and there was a tone to him that she could not help but feel kinship with. It was a curious feeling, but strangeness and curiosity sometimes made the best bedfellows.
Her mind and body synchronized flawlessly for once, Nayru felt herself being carried forwards with long strides, reaching Veigue in short order; only a few steps closer to the burning town ahead of them, but those few steps meant something more than the percentage of the distance closed to the village - actions spoke louder than words, and in her actions was a message more clear than words could ever convey.
She surprised even herself by gently resting one hand on Veigue's shoulder, a gesture she had found little use for in the past, and for a moment was reminded of a much older and wiser dragon who had been willing to suffer a silver-haired rapscallion with all the common sense and restraint of a raging inferno. Nayru found a small smile cracking her features, curving the lips that had so very recently been locked to hold in emotion of an entirely different variety, as she began to speak with words unfiltered by careful planning. Sometimes grandiose speeches and impassioned arguments were needed to make a point - or remind an ancient dragon of something he had forgotten about humanity.
Sometimes you just had to say the right couple of words.
"Doing the right thing is never easy - but it would not be worth doing if it was." She withdrew her hand, not entirely satisfied with what had come out, but unable to turn back the clock and then spend time thinking of a perfect quote or flawless phrasing. And it didn't matter anyways. They had work to do regardless of how much time she might spend thinking of the right words for it. A small chuckle, and the dragoness continued, the smile slowly turning from pleasant to feral as she felt her body tense, muscles coiling, the eternal power of her dragonstone flowing through her body unrestrained. "And besides - if not us, who?"
-And then there was motion, and only motion, reason left behind as she hurled herself ever onwards towards the village.

Aerious did not speak as Nayru did. Something was not right, she was far too invested in this. She was losing sight of the true meaning behind their actions in a haze of rage and vengeance. Some...very primal and unrestrained fury. Some uncontrolled anger that threatened to overwhelm them all in but a heartbeat. Aerious was quick to catch up to her, his own dragonstone resonating with the power she was pulling from hers. Far more power then she would need to fight any human they would find here.
[red]"Nayru."[/red] He hissed at her, quietly. [red]"Calm yourself, do not become too involved in human affairs. Remember, we are not to save humanity. We are guiding humans to save themselves."[/red] He spoke strongly and with determination. [red]"This is not our path to walk and make right. This is his story, we are merely...guiding it and ensuring he survives it. To find if he is one of those who might change the world."[/red] He reminded her, placing a hand on her shoulder and slowing his pace. He called back to the human, making his desire known.
[red]"You should take point, since you have a weapon. We'll see if we can find some people in need of help. Be careful though, there is no telling where they could lay an ambush..."[/red] He spoke to the swordsman. He didn't want to directly aide him unless he had to. But if this fight degraded, his hand might be forced. It would all depend on how much the brigands brought to the table.
And then there was Nayru to deal with. An unstable dragon could make everything else here irrelevant in an instant.

Veigue jumped a little on the inside when Nayru placed her hand on his shoulder and spoke. His slightly startled expression was proof enough. It wasn't something he expected, but nonetheless, he listened and took in what she said with great approval, merely nodding his head only once, but letting a small smile slide at the same time. When the two walked ahead and listening to what Aerious told him, he nodded again and managed to catch up to them, then sped his pace to go on ahead.
Before going any faster, Veigue opened his mouth one more time after forming another smile like before and said, "...Thank you both. I owe you for aiding me through this." before turning back to the village until he makes a fast sprint downward until he reached the village gate, which was broken down by the attack.
--
As Veigue dashed through the gate, he immediately saw several homes on fire, injured people in the streets, and even a couple villagers laying on the ground lifeless. One of them were right next to his foot. He took a quick glance to see that the man was armed. He must have been guarding the gate all alone and became easily overpowered. To make matters worse, he caught the sight of a weeping little girl behind some bushes. He didn't hesitate to approach.
He crouched down in front of her and keep his hand away from his sword to not frighten her. Of course, she still tried to slowly distance herself. Veigue couldn't take his weapon off him because of being in a battle zone now. All he could do is use words, as they are necessary now.
"Relax. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm here to stop these bad guys from wrecking your home." he said in combination of a warm smile. He had to act a little out of character to give off a positive vibe. His normal expressions could scare even adults. "Now tell me, what's wrong?"
It was perfectly normal that she kept crying to the point where she couldn't even form a full sentence. Knowing this, Veigue stood up, but kept looking down. "Let's make this easier then. Where are your parents? Can you tell me where they are? When I chase these guys away, I'll bring you to them. So just say hidden in these--"
"T-the mean man...hurt them really bad. They stopped...moving." the girl slightly interrupted, then went right back to wiping her face.
Veigue gritted his teeth, knowing it was obvious that they were killed. As he walked, he spoke one more time. "...Okay. I'll come back when this is over. Stay behind these bushes and don't come out until I get back..."
As he walked away completely, he drew his blade, but fiercely. He can feel the burning anger that he's been holding back all day ready to release. But in the midst of this, he still tried to cool down to prevent any accidents. It was going to be hopeless soon anyway, as he was nearing his boiling point. His angry expression was now glued to his face. He couldn't help but tighten his grip as hard as he could, walking off to find any of the bandits that he'll come across.
"...Bastards. Mercy no longer exists for you." That was all that escaped his lips from this point on. He went in silent, as no more words are required. His sword will do the speaking.
