Garrit smiled on the left sides of his mouth at the sharp eyed woman's response. He leaned back on the wall and sat his guan against the wall, and pulled his legs up onto the bed. He watched the two women begin clearing the dishes and thought he'd better help, but they were finished very quickly as there were few dishes. He got up and went to sit with the girl as she began to sharpen her weapon.
"I apologize if I seem curt. I have never truly been talkative. It's juhst a product of ta way I was raised. Truly the only reason I'm in Illia is because when I got to ta docks, ta quickest ship was headed to this snowy land a' yers."

Raegan smiles as Garrit speaks, never taking her eyes off of her work. "It's fine. I understand not being talkative. On the job I am not all that chatty either, but considering I have nothing much better to do than repair my belongings and sleep, talking seems like a bright idea." Her smile turns to a frown as she focuses her attention on working out a particularly deep notch in her blade.
She raises her brows slightly, "Sounds like you were trying to get away from something. Well Ilia is the place to do it." She remarks. Satisfied with her blade for the moment, she sets it aside. She reaches over to examine her pouch for holes, looking quite worried when she finds one.
She swiftly unfastens the pouch and checks inside, breathing a small sigh of relief when her fingers brush over something. She lifts out a small chain with a little white stone charm in the shape of a Pegasus hanging off of it. She slips the chain over her head before tucking the pendant into her shirt.

Garrit looked at her blade. It was finely made, but showed it had undergone some use. Garrit spoke, "You 'ave a nice blade. Looks like you take good care of it." Garrit looked out one of the windows and saw the stars. A few of the other servants in Caledonia had tried to teach him the constellations. Garrit simply viewed them as unnecessary, he could find the North Star, but that was all he needed.
He saw the necklace she was wearing. It was beautiful. "I like your charm." He looked back outside the window. "A lot of people are running from something."
Ooc: Sorry it's abrupt, there's a storm outside.

Raegan looked down at her blade, "It pays to pay attention. Gold not spent on new swords is gold that can go home to the people you care about."
Her hand goes up to the base of her throat, where the charm is not sitting. "Thank you." She says before pausing for a moment to consider, "It was my mother's."
She sets her work aside and follows Garrit's gaze out the window to the stars, she didn't exactly know most of the constellations either. "You're right. A lot of people are running from one thing or another."

Garrit stayed quiet for a long time. He looked up at the moon through the window. It was a crescent, but Garrit couldn't remember which one. It was missing the left half, which was either waxing or waning. His mind blanked. The other servants had attempted to drill in astrological rules, but their efforts were futile. He'd thought the subject as a whole was silly, especially with the influence of the Isles Druids, many of whom believed the stars told the future.
Garrit adjusted his chair so that he could keep his legs out from under the table. He turned his eyes over to the woman's face. She was looking out the window at the stars as he'd done only moments before. He said, "Who do you send money to? If that does not bother you to talk about."

Raegan smirked slightly and jerked her head in the direction of the bedroom where Laney had wandered off to, "This pair for their kindness when I need a place to get out of the snow, and an innkeeper north of here that took me in when I was a child."
She smiles fondly, likely at some memories that bubble up. "Mercenary work is Ilia's only export. Almost everything else the people need to survive has to be brought in from other lands."

Garrit looked at his lap. "I don't know much about ta lands outsiyde of ta Isles." He'd said more words that night than any night in the past six years. He tapped on the table. It wasn't a very nice table. They'd had better back in the mess hall in the Isles. It would probably need to be replaced in a few years. He was used to silence, and his thoughts were usually where his words stayed.
The silence was uncomfortable for some reason. "Where did you learn to use the sword?"

Raegan smiles, "I started learning from getting knocked down over and over and deciding I didn't like it." She says.
"There was a bit of a bandit problem by Nan's inn, and that much taught me the basics of putting the sharp end of the sword in the other guy. She shifts a little and wraps her fingers around the charm under her shirt. "After that I fell in with a company run by a Pegasus Knight. Coralin, that's her name. She taught me the rest of what I know."

Garrit nodded as the girl explained how she came to be here. While for the first time in his life silence made him uncomfortable, he was uncomfortable having said so much in one conversation with a complete stranger. He stood up and said, "Well, goodnight ma'am." He turned and entered the other room. He touched the blade of his dao, this was his life now. He was no servant, he was no miner. He was this blade.
He pulled the covers over his shoulder. He liked sleeping on his side. The servant's quarters had been cramped back in the Manse, and sleeping on his side at least made him feel like there was more room. He slowly began to drift into the place between sleep and being awake. His senses began to race. Being covered in coal dust, hearing a woman's scream, stone hard bread, the smell of ash, seeing the same wall of earth everyday. Then he slept.

Raegan nodded slightly, content to let Garrit go though her eyes followed his path into the other room. She seemed perplexed by the young man, to say the least.
Without another word she stood and walked back into the house proper, leaving Garrit to rest.
