Name:Vincent Clark
Class: Novice --> Mercenary --> Hero
Age: 17 --> 21
Born in: Lycia
Hair: Short spiky white hair that is lifted over a headband.
Eyes: Light blue, a small vertical scar beneath his left eye
Wears: Head: A Red Headband with an alternating Black triangle pattern. It is thick in the front but thins out into straps in the back. Solely worn to cover his scar. Torso: A sleeveless black tunic with blue patches. Shoulder: A silver and solid shoulder plate that has the strap securing Phoenix Heart to his back. Waist: A brown leather belt with a large buckle shaped Like the Phoenix Sigil. Arms: Two light but hardened gauntlets akin to brass knuckles. Legs: Plain trousers tucked into buckled boots.
Other: A pretty boy. On his right hand he bears the Phoenix Sigil which looks like a roaring bird with wings spread.
Weapons: Phoenix Heart- Magic Sword (Thani), Silver, Wyrmslayer. Phoenix Talon- Lancereaver, Swordreaver
Combat Style: Vincent's style of combat has fluctuated over time but what has become consistent for him is an effort on overwhelming his opponents. Capable of closing the gap between him and his opponent quickly with celerity and wielding both a magic weapon and a dagger designed to counter other types of weapons he is rarely ill equipped. His greatest problem arises when his opponents are skilled enough to evade him or counter with strong attacks of their own. Those who can go toe to toe for long are few but they tend to best him. In a pinch he has a habit of relying on the power in Phoenix Heart to punch through the problem. This only comes into play against monsters though as he detests killing.
Training:
Pre board training: none. He was a farm boy and never touched a blade.
In Thread Training: mostly self taught he compiled all the things he has seen and adopted them into his own. He is very experienced with up close views of dark magic but not the other branches. He has received further training in the assassin arts from Ryuzaki and most recently a man named Davian has taken to focusing the boy with proper instruction.
Battle Experience: Vincent is a master of bandit beating. He can disarm and dismember them easily. He has faced gargoyles, Baels, Dooges, and helped tackle the Cyclops. He has only seen one major battle but he has also faced a trio of deadly assassins.
Personality: Vincent has struggled and overcome many hardships and losses. Once he was a wide eyed youth who became a jaded loner. He has since moved on from that mentality. More and more he has learned to be the one that laughs the longest, fight the hardest, drinks the most, and makes the most of everything. He has given up on his idea of becoming a hero. Having achieved it on a small scale already the road to such a title left a foul taste with him. He is ready to trust and befriend others and treat them like old friends never knowing who will die on the job.
Vincent is not the type to hold back anymore. He has finally accepted the hard costs of combat and let go of his reluctance to kill the foul villains. He is still the type to let others live if they are able to be saved. He wants to do something to better the world and end the wars for good. To this end he is determined to become the most powerful man on the continent.
Story:
Pre game: Born a lycian farm boy war was not his game. He wanted nothing to do with it, but when his best friend told him he wanted to be a mercenary he couldn't let him go and get killed. In the middle of the night he and his friend slipped away from the farm and began traveling. The two were assailed by brigands along the road one night and separated. Neither knows of the others fate but Vincent decided to look for his friend. In his search he came to Ilia and began his search for his friend and a guild.
Agent Orange (The Bounty Debacle): Vincent was lost somewhere in Bern when he came upon a town in search of anything including a map. There he met a bounty hunter and his target. Chaos ensued from there. One after another men tried to kill each other each seeking a different man. Eventually the fighting broke until they were all rounded up into the police station. They were smoked out and Vincent catching a glimpse of the one to do it took a chance on pursuing the man. Upon the roof the man offered to tech him but he refused. He was marked on his hand and thrown from the roof into a pile of hay. He fled the city then deciding to find a better place to recuperate.
Black is the Color of Gold: Passing through a town Vincent bore witness to a crime and hostile take over. After alerting the local authorities the criminals quickly did in each of them with little effort. A young swordsman even younger than Vincent stood out to him and was ordered to battle with him. Sustaining minor injury Vincent won their match but failed to turn the boy to his side. The bandit leader in a passing whim of mercy let Vincent live and even gave him a small bag of coins. In parting Vincent inquired the leader's name while giving his own. Vincent swore to take down each of the bandits he met that day should they not repent their ways.
The Ten Riders: In the Sacae plains Vincent witnessed a man get hounded by ten rogue horsemen and robbed. Meeting both Liror and Burt they teamed up in order to avenge the loss of the old man's legs and return what stolen goods they could. Setting free the horses and lighting their tails on fire they divided the enemy forces by half. Burt took the main brunt of the battle. Vincent rescued Liror by stabbing the bandit leader in the back killing a man for the first time. Shortly after Liror saves him almost dying in the process if not for a strange light in the woods that healed the boy. It would be a while before Vincent learned what it was. When all was over Vincent was offered some council on killing by Burt and among the reclaimed treasure were four weapons each bearing great power. Vincent was judged by Phoenix Heart, the sword of the four. It would have destroyed him if he had not admitted to his failings and requested time to prove himself. Finding the proposal interesting the blade accepted it. What treasure they could carry returned Burt left with Phoenix Wing, the axe and the other two stayed with the old man until a time worthy wielders were found. Vincent decided to go out alone again despite having enjoyed the company.
A Chance Encounter: Vincent had finally arrived in Ilia at long last. But to his surprise inside the tavern who should he meet other than Baako. Before the two could confront each other a young mage named Neil invites them to his table. He asks them to train with him and they agree. Before the fight Vincent and Baako have a warm up match where Baako had Vincent on the ropes when Neil suddenly let off a surprise attack. Turning his focus to Neil Vincent learned how terrifying magic can be. Suddenly Neil grew weak and exploded out with energy causing Vincent to fly back his sword shattering and his head gaining a nice gash. In the aftermath Baako was left behind after he finally showed Vincent he doesn't want out of the criminal life. That night Vincent and Neil decided to team up and travel together.
Rising to the challenge: Vincent and Neil took on their first job together and in the heat of battle Neil saved Vincent's life, throwing himself into a spasm from his magic. Vincent is worried about him but he trusts Neil all the same and upon a successful job the two were given a letter of rec from the police chief. With it the two will be able to get a lot more jobs. Vincent had alcohol for the first time and learned he has almost no tolerance for it. It's almost supernatural. His confidence in his ability is getting out of hand however despite being very new.
A New Training Regiment: Vincent took pieces of everything he'd seen thus far from all his time traveling and compiled it all into a single training schedule. Neil and him both ran the course and by the afternoon the two finished it but were dog tired. Neil wanted to have a good spar after and despite being too sore to wield his blade Vincent agreed. Neil won the match.
The Smuggler of Arms: After meeting with much success Vincent and Neil had bloated egos. Vincent decided he wanted to take on a harder job by hunting down a smuggler. The hunt led the two to a local weapon shop. The owner turned out to be a man that knew Vincent from back in Ten Riders. When a man named Dayan made it obvious he was onto something in this same hunt The two had the horrible idea of knocking him out and getting information from him. It went poorly and soon the man was taunting the two for their failures. Vincent grew frustrated and angry and attacked the suspected smuggler deciding to pass judgement for his previous crimes while beating the truth out of him. The man retaliated however giving Vincent a powerful gash across the head that would later scar. Neil saved him but they learned the smuggler was only a part of something much, much smaller. He revealed a name, Lucius before he blew up. Whoever hired him had a way to clear loose ends. In the after math the two are banished from the village they'd been staying in and given a week to leave.
The meaning of a Phoenix Heart: Vincent is horribly lost and depressed after their recent failure and the sword Phoenix Heart outright rejects him burning him from its sheath. But in that moment he is suddenly met by a strange woman that wishes to speak with him. She councils him through it before making him an offer. To join an assassin group called The Black Feathers. Vincent refuses but the woman tells him that Neil is welcome to join as well and that he should think on it. She also advises him to reinvent himself. Vincent takes it to heart and soon has a new look and new weapons.
On the Road Again: After being banished from the town due to the reckless damage and chaos the two agree it is time to leave Ilia. Finding a slaughtered caravan of Bernese refugees the two bury them as Neil swears to slaughter those responsible. Neil suspects the Ilian pegasus knights but Vincent disagrees despite seeing them near the crime. In one of the carts they find medicines and rare goods. Beneath the medicine however Vincent finds another black feather. He decides it is time he found Near to learn how to combat assassins. It would be a risky plan if he caught on but he needed to keep this group away if possible.
Parting Shots: Both Neil and Vincent knew they would be going separate ways and so they had one final spar to finish it all off. It was a fierce fight that pushed both the boys to their limits. At one point had they desired it they would have killed each other at the same time. However Neil eventually won the match with Vincent yielding to him. It did not end there though. The charm Neil embedded into his arm made his powers and violence go wild. In the end Vincent was forced to brandish Phoenix Heart for the first time against him. Freeing Neil from the nether's control he slew him. In the wake of demise Vincent swore to carry on Neil's will and to rid the world of The Black Feathers.
Bael Hunt: On his return trip home Vincent overhears of a job to deal with Baels. It being in his homeland and hearing of the rumors surrounding the beasts he decides to help with the added incentive of recognizing Kyle. The fight was brutal and a near loss but he set the cave ablaze in a last ditch effort almost making things worse. In the end the mine was lost in an explosion but the day was one with no casualties. After he got his chance to speak with Kyle.
Who is Near: Kyle wishes to speak to Vincent about the man known as Near. Kyle warns Vincent about trusting him and the two humor the idea of hunting him at a later date.
Mind and Body: Deciding to leave early to avoid meeting any of the previous fighters he found himself face to face with Ajari anyway. He thanked her for her help and sensing distress in him she pulled the truth from him and tried to sway him from the path he was on. Ultimately she succeeded in turning him away from seeking Near but he still feels he needs to avenge Neil's death.
Reunion: When Vincent returns home he discovers it has been terrorized by a group of mercenaries under the orders of the local lord. When inquiring further into the matter he meets Borgus, the bandit from long ago again. Tossing him the bag of coins he was given he tells him he should have remembered his name and a fight breaks out. Interrupting it is two of the mercenaries. After a brief exchange plans to enact 'justice' is put into play on multiple fronts. When it seemed that Borgus would kill the lord one of the mercenaries stops him and steals Phoenix Heart from Vincent. Revealing himself to be the leader of The Black Feathers he sets the Lord on fire and Vincent is arrested in his stead as the bandit escapes.
The Ashes of the Phoenix: With the help of Mila, calling herself Clover and Ryuzaki Vincent breaks out of the jail. There is only one problem, the jail burned down in the process and several guards were killed, adding to his supposed crimes. In the aftermath Mila parted ways but Vincent and Near duel. Vincent impresses Near but ultimately Near takes the match. In an agreement Vincent decides to learn from Near in order to better combat assassins.
Border Battle: Vincent and Near are passing through a town when the two learn that the residents have been harassed and assailed by bandits nightly. Vincent convinces Near to help and the two put a small team together. The fight proved difficult and Vincent sustains a wound to his leg but they are successful in being rid if their enemies. The healer that fooled Vincent on the road long ago is among them and an enraged Vincent nearly kills him, when he learns that Ash is still alive.
Siege on Hero City (Phase One): Vincent has been fighting the hard fight and as the day is won he tries to rescue a man with no success. He is coming to understand the horrors of war and just how brutal the conflicts of old must have been. The idea of military is starting to take to him as well.
Northern Defenses: Vincent went to the commanders tent to propose an idea to better the defenses to Edrick. What ensues is a polite refusal as well as casual chat. The two enjoy a brief break from all the war and strategy becoming friends and promising to meet after the siege ends.
Red VS Blue: Exhausted and wounded Vincent drags himself and another wounded fighter to the healing tents. There he meets and speaks with the red mage himself Elias. Initially he finds himself gushing with praise to the man but as the conversation continues it quickly becomes evident to him that he is still a flawed man. A normal man that strives for more. Declaring a perhaps one sided rivalry he parts with a thanks on friendly terms but still Red and Blue.
Siege on Hero City (Phase Two): The fighting has taken its toll on the defenders and now Vincent desperately tries to keep the north rallied together before having to rush to the south in a desperate attempt to stop the demonic forces. There he claims he can take down the rampaging cyclops by cutting through the leg. With a great deal of aid, to include buffs, other fighters and the forces being directed to fight in a bid on his claims he manages to mangle the left leg helping to cause its collapse. Celebration would have to wait as the beast flails about knocking his blades away and nearly crushing him. Upon retrieval of Phoenix Heart he finds that Burt has become possessed by some form of demon. He does what he can to try and free Burt but it is all in vain. Burt escapes after defeating Vincent within an inch of his life. Vincent finds Burt's old journal and vows to make his work known.
Out of the Ashes: Passing through Lycia Vincent spots Clover in a bar. The two chat as he learns her real name and they set up a plan for a job hunting monsters. He entrusts Burt's notebook to her as she can get it attention.
Hounds of Sacae: Vincent helps to deal with a pack of Dooges and is bothered by others calling him a war hero, not feeling he deserved such praise.
A duel before departure: on the road in the isles Vincent crosses paths with Duma for the first time since Baels. The two catch up before having a fierce duel. Vincent kept Duma on the ropes losing only as Duma awakened a new ability and sent Vincent's blade flying free from his hands.
Meeting the members: at last he was ready to join the crew to the colony. The leader of the expedition was not too keen on the boy coming until they had a battle. Vincent went all out from the first but was completely overwhelmed and came out with a broken jaw.
Ships taxes: Vincent learns what it means to be a part of a ship crew. After a full day of work Davian has the two train until dawn. Vincent is shown that versatility is good but he needs a focus. For now this means the two will be training with a single blade.
Name: Phoenix Heart
Magic: Light
Tome: Thani
Physical Description: the hilt is wrapped in black leather with the pommel formed with two hollow crossing diamonds. The guard is spread to appear as wings and the blade is thick and three feet long. The metal was once black and when wielded gained golden runes that translated to "the worthy rise again." It has since expanded in power and upon Vincent breaking the Blade's Second Seal the Blade has turned a permanent gold.
Personality: the sword is a force of determination and unshakable pride. Because of this the blade will reject and light on fire any it does not deem worthy to wield it.
Origin: Most of its history is lost to time. The only things known for certain is that it was forged from meteor and has passed to countless owners. Most found as a dead and burned husk. As Vincent's bond has deepened with the blade it has been revealed to him that the weapon was forged from meteor and silver but bound with a spirit of incredible strength. The strength of the spirit was so strong as to require it be split between four weapons, the blade of Thani representing the Phoenix's Divine nature. A bow of Healing representing the phoenix's death and rebirth. An axe of fire, representing the Phoenix's flames that were all consuming. And the lance of gales representing the Phoenix's dominance of the sky. The blade bears ten seals and Vincent has only awoken two. As the third nears breaking he must locate the other three parts if he is to complete it and restore it to full dominance.
