He wasn't sure when he blacked out, but being unconscious wasn't quite something Jude suffered often. He was normally more resilient than to fall out of state so quickly and so easily, but with his fatigue on top of having been running ragged for the past few days, getting a wound and falling from a window were plenty enough to do it. The last thing he remembered was falling from who knew how many stories into gods-knew-what, Mel's fist wrapped tightly around his wrist in an effort to keep the two conjoined.
His seemingly lifeless body fell hard and fast into the water, and it began to sink immediately as Mel let go of it. From the outside, it wouldn't have looked like much-- the splash faded, the water, cold and dark, hid his sinking body too well. Only the reflection of the moonlight could be seen upon the water's surface, growing more calm by the minute. Jude's body sank further and further, the little air in his lungs already seeping out to keep his body grounded. Eventually it hit the bottom, and Jude was just barely able to come to and realize his situation. His normally lively and fiery red eyes opened slowly, carefully, and dully. The fire was gone, and he scanned the area. Dark, murky.. Was it water? As the feeling returned to his body, he realized the dire situation in which he now found himself.
Unsure that he had the strength to swim up, and without knowing how close he was to the surface, Jude kicked off the ground as hard as he could and made for the surface. Within a few seconds, he broke heavily through the surface of the calm water, creating a massive splash and sending waves in every direction. He practically threw his near lifeless body onto the shore, coughing and spitting up water as he did. He dragged himself to the bank on his dirty, bloody forearms, and eventually he looked up to see Mel, who had, by his estimation, simply abandoned him. He tried to look upset, but the heaving in his chest kept him occupied, all his energy spent in trying to stay conscious. He looked down at his bleeding leg and immediately knew it needed some work, but Jude was afraid he hadn't much to work with.
Still panting, he fixed a blank gaze on Mel, not sure what to say. He tried to pull himself up, but fell into the mud on the edge of the bank, and then simply let himself lie there. He closed his eyes and listened to the sounds around him... They seemed safe. It seemed that the danger was behind them. And still, Jude knew they needed to get the absolute hell out of there.
Long, quiet moments passed. Jude eventually returned to normal breathing, and with a few ounces of strength he had remaining, he pulled himself up over the bank and threw himself next to Mel. Very flatly, he looked over at her and addressed her. "What a rescue." He spit off to the side, away from her, and wiped his mouth with his dirty arm. "Remind me never to get caught in a tower with a dragon in the keep. Some knight you'd be. Asshole."
He wanted to say more, but knew it was time to leave.
