Aeos continued to hold on for dear life. Until Gar finally got up and managed to smack the boar in the head wit his axe. The boar fell limp and crumpled to the floor. It took a moment for all of that to register with Aeos. He could see the ground and the forest around him spinning. He finally managed to let go of the boar and fell off the boar's back. He fell on his back and just kept staring at the sky until he felt well enough to move. He kept his eyes closed until he felt the wilder part of him settled down.
"Im alright.. just let me lie here for a moment.." He spoke in a bit of a breathless tone.
He finally managed to pick himself off the ground. Parts of his face were bloody, due to the cut on his lip, and the blood splatter from the boar. Gar had asked for some herbs to protect against infection. Aeos pulled from his pouch of balm.
"I.. hath? Have.. balm. It stings like hell but does well to ward infection." His speech was slow. Aeos undid the knot holding the pouch closed and put it on Gar's leg. He then pulled from his bag a clean set of bandages and wrapped the wound.
"That.. that.. should hold thee until we return to.. town." He smeared some of the balm over his lip and instantly regretted it. He gritted his teeth through the pain and put his things away.
"Tis.. be a bit late to continue the herb hunt. The sun be starting to set.. and we hath lots of ground to cover." He slowly got up onto his feet.
"We can.. carry the creature back with a large stick.. and tie it on it. Twould divide the weight.." Aeos could carry the boar on his own if he tapped into his dragon strength. But he decided not to he had felt he had done enough with his power today.
"Right.. I can fashion.. a rope out oft the vines from the tree.. if not then the bark from saplings would do. See if you can find a branch large enough.. and sturdy enough to hold our future food."[/font] Aeos pulled out a small knife from his pouch. And went to work looking for suitable materials for rope.

Gar winced as soon as the balm came in contact with his wound. He tried his best not to yank his leg back while Aeos assisted him. Dang. If I knew treating it would hurt this much I would've left it alone. As the pain subsided Gar looked toward the sky. The sun was low in the sky, but they still had enough time to return to town, as long as nothing slowed them down along the way. Aeos informed him that they would be carrying the beast back to town with a branch and rope.
"Aye I'll find us a sturdy one. We'll need it to haul this big guy." Gar chuckled while gesturing to the fallen boar with his thumb. Gar took to the search, scanning the forest floor for fallen branches. unfortunately, he didn't see any that could bear the weight. Doesn't look like any branches here will do the trick. Gar turned his head to scope out some of the shorter trees in the forest. Ahh that one will work nicely. Gar moved to the base of a tree and placed his arms around it. He began slowly shimmying up the tree trunk, trying his best not to place weight on his injured leg.
In time Gar reached his destination and swung one leg over a sturdy branch. Ignoring the splinters he had gained on the climb, he withdrew his axe and leaned to the side. He began hacking at the target branch repeatedly. It took more effort than he had expected, due to his compromised balance while straddling a tree branch. After a few more solid hacks the branch fell to the ground. Gar followed. He walked to the fallen branch and began trimming it with his axe. He eventually had constructed a sturdy pole which he promptly delivered to Aeos.
" Mission accomplished. Ready to return when you are."

Aeos went to work rummaging through the woods to find suitable bark or vine to turn into rope. He couldn't find any sturdy vines so he had to make due with sapling bark. It took a while but he finally managed to find the right kind of plant to harvest the right kind of fibers from to make a decent rope. He cut enough plants from the soil and began to separate the strands from the bark. The stalks of semi-thick reed like plants were sturdy enough so that they wouldn't break. The whole process of separating the fibers from the bark and subsequently tying them together to make rope was going to be long.
Aeos took a moment to sit down on a rock as he went to work. By the time he had gotten half way with making a suitable length of rope Gar had returned with the stick. Aeos gave it a quick once over and found it acceptable.
"Perfect. Tis be the right length and good thickness. We are going to.. well.. hog tie the boar onto the stick. This will take a bit more time." Aeos lifted up the bit of rope that was completed. His fingers continued to twist and wrap the fibers of the dead plants into cordage which would later tie together into other bundles of cordage and make one sturdy rope. His fingers made it look easy, but that was probably a few centuries of rope making experience.
"I.. used to hate this chore as a lad. Twas very boring.." He gave a bit of a sigh.
"I remember mother would have to bribe me into the task. I suppose when I see her next.. I shall thank her for that."
Once he was finished Aeos took the pole and the rope and approached the boar. He tied the creature to the pole and together both of them managed to lift the boar off the ground.
"There we go. Now.. we went north into the woods.. so if we go south.. we should hit the shore line.. then west? I think? I suppose once we hit the shore we might see torch lights oft the settlement."

Gar assisted Aeos in hauling the beast into the air. The added weight wasn't pleasant for Gar's leg, but he ignored it. Gar scanned the sky once again. " The sun's setting quickly. Looks like we'll have to double time it back if we want to make it before sunset." After seeing the size of the boar this island had, he wasn't in any hurry to see what kind of bears or other animals this new land had in store. Mix that with a hurt leg and poor visibility and anybody who didn't have a death wish would agree; A quick return would keep them safe.
Gar chose not to ponder too long on what the island had in store. He decided some friendly conversation would pass the time. " Hey Aeos, How many people you got in your crew? Any interesting mates? This one guy in my crew, Chet, Tha man's a riot I tell ya. Have a meal with him and you'll hardly be able to eat." Gar chuckled as he thought of one of Chet's past experiences. "Like this one time, Chet was telling us about how he struggled surviving while drifting in the ocean for days... Turns out he was on land the whole time and had just eaten some bad frog legs. Har har." Gar laughed heartily as he continued moving at a brisk pace.
The two soon came upon the forest's edge. Gar took a moment to stretch and sighed. "Whew. Which way now?" Gar scanned the treeline to make sure nothing was coming out of the woods. Looks clear to me. Let's just be sure to get back before sundown.

The pair of them trudged through the woods with their boar in tow. The boar didn't seem to weigh much perhaps that was due to them dividing the weight between them with the pole. Gar had told him a story about one of his crew mates, which made him laugh a bit.
"Hmm.. interesting crew men? Well tis be a shame that most be sick in their hammocks with foul stomachs. But the captain.. Captain Morgan.. is quite entertaining. He be a man fromth the isles. He claims to have wrestled bears! And he is muscle.. er muscular enough for me to belive the claim. But he hath a story about him and a hive oft bees thou must hear."
It wasn't long before they made their way to the shore line. Aeos was relieved to feel the sand beneath his feet. Hee scanned the shore in order to find signs of the settlement of Aurion. Far off in the distance he was able to spy the various flags of the Eturian countries.
"There!" He pointed out west.
"See yonder flags in the wind. And the ships by the dock... That be base. If we move at a moderate pace we can get to it before sunset." Aeos put his hand down and started to walk along the sand towards the settlement. As they walked, they talked, swapping little stories of their lives. Aeos spoke about his time in Bern and his quest to find the best apple pie. And before long the both of them were back in Aurion.
With the boar delivered to be prepared for the roast, Aeos returned to the old man. He gave what herbs he had and bowed deeply.
"Forgive us elder one.. we got distracted by the boar."

As planned, Gar and Aeos arrived at the gates of Aurnion before sundown. Gar rolled his neck as the two delivered the boar to be readied to eat. He stretched out his arms and shook out his legs "Man that beast sure was something." Gar smiled at Aeos " But we handled it no problem." The two then made for the old man who had given them the herb hunting mission.
As Gar entered, he removed the flowers from his satchel and placed them on his desk. "Here's your uhhh whatever root. We would've gotten more but a boar got in the way. Haha. Maybe next time." Gar nodded as Aeos apologized on their behalf.
"Oh don't worry, those herbs won't be going anywhere" The old man said in response. He then divided the herbs up into three groups and offered one to both Gar and Aeos. Gar refused his share and began to head toward the exit. "Well I'd better go check in with the crew. See if they have any interesting updates about the island. It was great working with ya Aeos. You're a good guy, if a little old fashioned. Maybe we could catch a drink or something later. Feel free to come to me if you ever need a hand with something." Gar gave the two one last grin and walked out of the tent.
Gar looked to the sky as he walked back to the dock. Day one on a new island... not too bad. More new friends and adventures surely await, I just have to find them.
