Ilheod nodded quietly as the man behind the desk rose into a salute, but raised an armored hand to dismiss the mans apologies. They'd arrived sooner than expected, so it was of no faults on his part. The crimson haired wyvern lord responded calmly after a brief moment to dismiss the mans concerns, hand still resting on the pommel of his blade as he looked over at the young boy still, single hazel eye fixated on him. "Fret not over it Sergeant, we finished our scouting operation quicker than anticipated. Though, speaking of arrival.."
Briefly, Ilheod would turn to his men standing outside, speaking with such a sudden tone shift that his previously calm voice would've scarcely seemed possible as the disciplined sternness of a commanding officer dominated his words. "Ilbrae, Seth! Make sure that the wyverns are stabled and tended to for the evening. I expect all seventy three to be settled in for the day by the time I am done here. That means each lad to their own wyvern. Dismissed!"
Both the older man, and Ilheod's younger brother Ilbrae instantly stood at attention, heels clicking together as their bodies went rigid and they wrapped their armored gauntlets towards their breastplates once before both speaking aloud. "Sir!" Their strides in exit were long, but instep, a military trait. Turning back towards the sergeant, the man began to explain the source of the noise. Though his gaze found her again, he figured he would quietly wait to hear her explanation before casting any semblance of personal judgment. Every situation had extremes. Variables that warranted varying responses.
Her explanation though, seemed perfectly reasonable. Ilheod turned briefly, calling to the last man left from his little entourage that he'd entered the barracks with. Once again, taking a stern tone that, which seemed to compliment his outwards appearance far better.
"Lieutenant Alexander! Enter. I'd like you to take a look at this lad here."
"Sir!"
As the young armored lieutenant came striding into the room, and moved to his commander's side to examine the young thief, Ilheod turned to address the female soldier. His tone had softened considerable upon speaking to her. His rough tone was reserved only for those directly under his command. With the rebellion being a clustered set of commanders and their own forces, he did not wish to impose by directly stepping over another's orders, or command, even if his technical rank stood above others.
"If that is the case lass, don't worry about raising a ruckus. You took your job seriously, and their's always respect and merit in that. Keep up the outstanding work."
Ilheod turned to look towards the thief, palm resting on his blade still as he moved by Alexander, who gazed at him through narrowed gaze. "I take it you've determined a punishment already for this lad's thievery?" He knew that pending the crime itself, and timing, he could've been in for quite the ordeal; or the exact opposite. Though it was not his incident to issue a punishment for, he was certainly interested in the conclusion.

The Commander was quick to live up to his rank, swiftly and sternly ordering out commands to the equally impressive men that were with him. As soon as he mentioned "wyverns" to a pair of them, it hit Eris where she had heard of Commander Ilheod before. He had been the Knight Commander of Western Bern, before the rebellion. What she had overheard from her comrades was their gossiping over some of his latest feats. That whole ordeal with a large monster raid, or some sort, in Sacae. The Commander had played an integral part in stopping the raid, she just didn't know the details.
The thieving brat was silent when Eris addressed him, even as one of the Commander's men inspected him, likely for the best. With someone like Commander Ilheod showing up it would have been extremely...un-wise, to start running his mouth like he did with her earlier. Even more surprising was the Commander's reaction to her explanation. He complimented and encouraged her. For a second Eris gazed at the Commander with a somewhat dull expression.
She was genuinely not too used to such behavior. Only her Sir ever commended her, back in her squiring days. His words did reach her ears quickly enough, though, and she gave small nod of gratitude before saying. "Thank you, sir." Being recognized by a higher up...that was a good sign. It was over something small, yes, but a good sign. She was at least on the right track then, and that was something she couldn't help but appreciate being told.
Eris demeanor stayed professional but her sour mood finally softened, and she silently observed as sergeant Eriksson answered the Commander's question on the brat's punishment.
"Well, sir, I did not see a need in holding the lad in a cell. He stole an apple, claiming to have spent all his gold and his way here from Lycia, and imprisonment would likely be more trouble than the crime is worth. I gave him the choice of working here instead, though had he declined he would have been jailed. He'd be under supervision, cleaning the barracks, aiding in the upkeep of weaponry and gear, and running small errands for myself and other officers."
Both Eris and Eriksson stood to see what the Commander would think of that answer. Would he find the punishment insufficient?

Sudreth swore like a sailor in his own head as the events unfolded before him. It was just his luck to have him just about to get off scott free and just like that, have the entire thing fall apart right before his eyes. Hell the entire thing started with a simple swiping of an apple and it all went to crap because the hard ass guard was in the area. Hell, she shouldn't have been able to notice the swipe unless she was keeping her eye on him the entire time, that or some divine being slapped her across the face and told her "Hey doofus, that guy over there is stealing stuff. Screw his life over now." And when He was finally going to get off without a hitch that same divine intervention put captain fancy armor in his way to add his second opinion and he wasn't being portrayed in the brightest light to this guy either. Then the image of the Sacaen Sky God sitting on his cloud throne cursing Sudreth with all these problems popped into his mind. "Friggin Sky gods and their curses..." He muttered to himself.
Once he was done with his rant in his head, he began picking up the conversation going on about him. "..and running small errands for myself and other officers."
Sudreth and the others looked at Sudreth's new judge and waited for the new verdict. All Sudreth could do was pray in his mind to any Deity he hadn't already offended with his rant a few second ago.

Ilheod squinted, his single visible eye narrowing as he examined the lad. Though his other eye was obscured behind the eye-patch they still wore in advanced preparations for their nocturnal operations, he was able to get a solid look at the lad as they explained the situation. The crimson haired wyvern rider had seen types like the lad before. In times of peace, and war it was more common than it should've been. However he knew they each had a bit of a unique story. How best to narrow it down? Slow, long, strides closed the distance as the commander circled the boy in passing silence. His right hand resting with his palm molding to the shape of his blades pommel at the end of the hilt with every passing moment. Once he stood to the back right of the boy, he looked to Alexander, with a brief quizzical gaze before speaking up.
"What would you say Lieutenant? More like Immen, or Brom? "
Though none standing in the room save for Alexander would understand his question, the younger officer replied after a brief pause, and a few moments to rub his chin in thought. His words slow and well thought out.
"Certainly closer to Immen. If I had to guess, same start as well."
Right, then. Ilheod stood up straighter, squaring his shoulders as the commander directed his one eyed gaze back down to the lad before turning to come into view of him; the single eye seemingly boring through his very core as if to examine him entirely. He spoke however, to the entire room when he did so.
"Before I can properly say..I'd need to know one thing."
He shifted his shoulders a bit and leaned forwards slightly, lowering himself a bit closer to eye-level with the lad; hand gripping the hilt of his blade a bit tighter, visibly so.
"What's brought you to Bern, all the way from Lycia lad. The truth now, if you'd please..I'm very good at sifting through shite when spouted out."

The Commander was speaking to one of his men, the one he had told to inspect the prisoner-turned-servant boy. After some manner of code talk, though it sounded more like an inside reference than some code, the Commander moved on to question the brat himself. It seemed he wasn't satisfied with the information we got out of him...and Eris liked that. This was the sort of Commander she could follow and learn from. Handsome, too. "Shame he commands a wyvern unit..."
Tch, that thought stung more than Eris would have liked to admit. She could barely command horses in simple riding drills, she knew there was no way in hell she would be cut out for taming a wyvern. Those beasts were far more proud and stubborn than any horse, though the reward was a powerful and loyal mount. That had been her dream. After all, Wyvern Riders were practically the poster children for the Bernese military. Many of Bern's most powerful, famous, and legendary soldiers and heroes throughout all of history have been knights on wyvern back.
"Then I'd really be accepted back home..."
Ugh, she hated when she was forced to stand quietly and think. Her mind all too often wandered to painful memories. The situation at hand. The present. Focus on that.
With all that in mind just observing the Commander filled Eris with swirling emotions. Envy, respect...and yes, physical attraction. But this was not the time nor place for that. Instead she decided to turn her focus onto the blonde brat, and figured she was best off awaiting his response.

Sudreth thought carefully of what he was going to say as there were things he'd rather leave in the dark.
"It's quite the story honestly sir. I was orphaned about a year ago when my father had died in a tragic accident. With not much for me to do, I left my home town of Badon to work as a traveling freelancer. Any little odd job I could get I did so I could get the gold for another day of living. I worked mostly odd jobs but every once in a while I would get hired as a sell sword." He conveniently left out some details such as most of his sell sword duties were for people who weren't on the right side of the law.
"After a while my overall funds started dropping so I decided to settle down somewhere where I could find a permanent job. I had heard that Bern was always looking for soldiers so I decided to come here to see if I had what it takes. Though given my little slip up in the marketplace you can see where I ended up."

Hmm..
A particular point caught him. At-lest one point he found interesting. Tragic Accident. The one eyed captain stared down to the lad with a skeptical expression, eye narrowing as he slowly coiled armored fingers around the hilt of his blade. The metal grating as the blade slowly extracted from the sheath. The brief metal clink as he pressed the tip towards the stone floor tile of the room they were in broke the tense silence before Ilheod placed his second palm upon the blade and stared at the boy further. The Devilslayer looked sternly down to the lad, before speaking in a tone that seemed far more serious. Deadly serious. A darkened expression of severity etched onto his features that seemed more fitting of a man clad in armor of slain voidsent.
"Alexander. Immen seems to be the case. Go, rouse Astraeus. I'd like to introduce the two."
Alexander was quick to crash an armored gauntlet against his breastplate and nod, before turning on his heel and marching off to rouse the commander's wyvern. Ilheod turned to the sergeant within the room and spoke in a far less imposing tone; once again minding that the sergeant was not an officer directly under him. His poise however continued, hands pressing the tip of the blade against the stone still and standing as he was.
"If I could make a brief request. It is not in my jurisdiction, but I would like to take brief custody of this lad. He claims to be a soldier, so my thoughts are two fold. One, to show him what precisely that means in Bern. Two, that after-words I believe his duties of service in repayment for his thievery should be directed to this lass here."
He nodded in the direction of Eris for emphasis before continuing his line of thought, in explanation to her commanding officer.
"From what I've seen here, most officers have assistants. This would disrupt the normal flow of their duties. However if this lass were to have someone, it would give her a brief glimpse at what her potential future may be like should she climb ranks. A bit of both a reward for her diligence, and motivation to continue it in the future. It will also teach her responsibility though, as she'll have to keep an eye out for him. However.. if I've permission to briefly bring the lad with me, I'd also like her to come with me should she be willing. I've something in mind that she might do well to see also."
He lifted his blade, the point of emphasis towards the young thief now hopefully having been driven in, as he sheathed it with a brief click into its holster before turning to gaze at the sergeant in direct silence; waiting for his response.

"Shite, shite, and more shite." Eris thought to herself as Sudreth, the thieving brat, spun his story. The fact that he honestly used the words "tragic accident" to describe his father's death was so maddeningly transparent it took all the restraint she had not to snort in derision. If his father WAS dead, he didn't seem none too bothered by it. And so with his dad dead he decided it'd be a great idea to cross the border into a nation currently in the midst of a rebellion, said border known for wild wyverns, jagged mountain passes, and bandit camps?
Again, shite.
Unfortunately Eris had no idea what the truth could be, or just how much of what the brat had said was a lie. She could judge based on the intense expression on Commander Ilheod's face that he wasn't entirely convinced of Sudreth's story either. Good, her growing respect wasn't misplaced. However Eris couldn't have predicted the Commander's suggestion.
“W-wait, you want me to watch over him?!” A shocked Eris asked, a little louder than she ought to. She made it certain to bite back any protests that could follow her surprised outburst, lest she offend the Commander. Had it been anyone else, even Eriksson, to make such a suggestion than Eris would have been very tempted to voice her discontent.
Still...she had to question his judgement.
“Commander, sir, do you truly believe that is the best course of action? I appreciate the opportunity you are providing me, of course, just...honestly I didn't expect this.” She spoke honestly, so honest that her usual bite was not present in these words. Commander Ilheod had genuinely caught her off guard. Still, though she was excited by the prospect of proving her potential to rise through the Bernese ranks, she still was not keen on Sudreth himself being the opportunity.

Sudreth didn't like the way the man stared him down. Not in a way that made him angry, more like it unnerved Sudreth. He had never met someone who seemed to know everything about Sudreth just by looking at him. This same look made Sudreth think he probably saw through his avoidance of going into specific details. "Scary guy..." He commented to himself.
He paid attention (for once) to what the man was requesting and his reaction was unanimous with that of the woman's "Wait... What!? You want me to stick around with her!?" Though unlike the woman he kept it to himself, though his face probably spoke leagues more than he could ever say as he went from a surprised expression to a bit of a scowl. There really had to be some power, Divine or otherwise, screwing with Sudreth right now. It was bad enough that Sudreth ran into the hard-ass in the first place, but now she of all people would be in charge of him! Just imagining how every day would be Sudreth being ordered around by that jerk to clean her spear, clean this room or being forced to be a leg rest while she laughed like a manically and twirled her villain mustache was terrifying to him. "Just strike me down now and spare me the pain." he begged to any invisible force that may have been listening in on his plight. He was answered with silence and then that silence being broken by the woman questioning the man's decision.

Neither's reaction was entirely surprising. Ilheod had his palm move back to resting atop the sheath of his blade; though this time he had no desire to draw it. He looked to the boy quietly, the stern look on his visage one intent on silencing the lad. It was clear that, towards him at-least, he'd brook no talk back. This expression faded however as he tilted his gaze towards the young lass, before nodding his head and pausing to expound upon his thoughts. His hand lifted to gesture towards the young thief for emphasis.
"Certainly. It is something you'll have to get used to. Often times, when leading others, you'll have someone that you have to keep an eye on. At times more than that, dozens even. You'll be responsible for their failings even as you are their success. Their mistakes become yours, and their victories become yours. I think this will be an excellent experience to have, if you ever have plans on leading other troops into battle."
He turned to look at the girls commanding officer, straightening his stance a bit and once more assuming his more militaristic poise; respecting communication on an official business between two officers. The Bernese wyvern commander quietly nodded towards the male thief, and then the girl again as Ilheod spoke up.
"It's your call Sergeant. She's in your command, and he's under your jurisdiction. Do I have your permission to take custody of the lad briefly, and then transfer him into her custody to serve his sentence? "
Though he waited quietly, it was obvious that he intended no harm to befall the lad. At-least, as far as the officer might've been concerned. A few spooks and scares though; those were common military use for educating lads to walk a better path.

While Sudreth's protest as met with a silent but stern threat from the Commander himself, Sergeant Eriksson had been mulling the idea over whilst watching the reactions between Eris and Sudreth. Eventually he gave a nod to the Commander and took a small breath. "I have no qualms with such an arrangement, and knowing Private Albrecht she would be honored to be given such an opportunity. I'm all for it, sir."
And with that Eris had to accept her new situation. Fine, fair enough, it wasn't SO bad. Beyond thieving and lying, Sudreth hadn't really done too much wrong. For once she would be more than simply following, or taking command of evenly ranked soldiers that she had deemed incompetent in the absence of a superior. Eris would be responsible for Sudreth, and Sudreth would be a direct representation of Eris herself. This was a much larger duty than she initially anticipated...but she just could not say no to it.
"I understand, Commander." Eris answered in response to Commander Ilheod's earlier explanation. "I accept this responsibility and am honored to be given this opportunity, just a sergeant Eriksson said, sir." Eris stated more firmly this time. She was never one to back down from any challenge. That would just validate so much of the negativity and doubt that had been thrown at her since she was a young child. Eris wouldn't just whip Sudreth into shape, she'd make him the second-best damn soldier in Bern if she had to...behind only herself, of course.
Eriksson nodded at the strawberry-blonde and gave another nod to the Commander. "We're all in agreement then, sir. You may take the boy into custody and do with him as you please."

Excellent. That's settled then.
Ilheod shifted his heels together in acknowledgment and nodded towards the sergeant briefly, directing his one-eyed gaze towards the officer behind the desk. His tone was fairly formal as he spoke up. "You have my thanks. "
His gaze found the other two, as Ilheod rested his palm against the hilt of his blade and cupped the pommel quietly. He gave them a moment longer to ponder everything before turning on his heel and moving towards the door. His tone was professionally curt, emphasizing that they move along.
"If you two could follow me, we can begin."
He spoke no further words before turning to move ahead. Though one hand continued to idle upon his blade, he seemed to simply expect them to follow him as he made long swift strides through the barrack halls. With so little time between his issued command for his men and their wyverns to be settled in, he knew they'd still be out and about. That was excellent.
Once they'd exited the inner winding stone halls of Macendew's barracks, Ilheod found the welcoming sight of green fields and felt the lessened impact of his steps upon the natural gaea surface. It felt better to be outside, certainly. Within the skies, dozens of wyverns were moving from the west. Their polished midnight blue armor signified them as his lads; members of the Nightwings. However, with them mid-flight and wind racing as they moved about at such elevations they'd have no change of hearing him. Luckily however..that was why he never ran the unit alone.
He turned partially to gaze with his single exposed eye towards the young female soldier and the thief.
"Stay near me...and make no sudden movements."
He turned to gaze skywards once more before clicking his tongue to his lips and pinching them. A loud full-breathed whistle echoed outwards.
At first..silence.
The wyvern riders continued to move, flying lower and down towards the stables set up across from Macendew that were designed to house wyverns. One figure broke away, moving not towards them though, but Ilheod. A riderless wyvern, far more colossal in size than the average bernese wyvern. With dark scales, and colossal wings extending to break the descent, Astraeus struck the image appropriate of an aging wyvern. The ground shook slightly as the monstrous wyvern landed near his rider. Deep green draconic eyes instantly focused on the two. To the wyvern only one of the two new faces looked appropriate. Armored men and women were a common site for him. However the wyverns immense body shook with slow baritone rumblings as a feral growl parted from toothy maw that slowly opened to expose hundreds of razor teeth.
A palm from Ilheod pressing atop the wyverns muzzle to shut it was enough to distract the beast though. Ilheod looked to his men, before turning to Astraeus and patting him twice.
"Not now. You can play with him in a few moments. First, let's introduce them to the lads. Astraeus. Regroup."
The last two words followed his sudden tone shift, as the stern command was easily recognizable as familiar to the wyvern. Ilheod would've warned them of what came next...but to him it was natural and simply something he did not think of as anything less than usual.
Astraeus extended his wings upwards, inhaling deeply before letting out a headsplittingly high pitched loud shriek. A beckon that was heard by both wyvern and rider, as the nightwings began to move with uniformed speed as they fell into formation. The units instantly formed up. From right to left they assembled, seventy three wyverns landing with varying impacts before the Wyvern Lord, the young soldier, and the thief in six squads of twelve. Three wyverns standing ahead of them and near Ilheod. Two men that looked fairly similar to him, being his brothers Ilbrae and Ilden, and the other being the very man who he'd sent out moments before that'd been examining the young thief. Alexander.
Ilheod turned to gaze at the young thief quietly, a slight grin etching onto his lips as he stared down at the lad; his armored palm resting against the side of his colossal wyvern all the while. The creature's eyes had not left the boy, but with his owners hand upon him he seemed to know not to move.
"So lad. You wanted to see if you could be a soldier, eh? Let's see if that's really true."
Sifting through the finer details was perhaps his favorite part.

Sergeant Eriksson said no words in response to Commander Ilheod's gratitude. Instead he gave another salute before turning his focus back to the paperwork on his desk. The Commander gave Eris and Sudreth a firm look before turning and stating that they follow him. Eris gave the Commander a nod and a quick, "Yes sir." as her response, shooting Sudreth a stern look before following the Commander.
He took them through the halls of the fort, and Eris soon realized that he was headed outside. Eris couldn't imagine the reason, so she didn't. Instead she just followed the commander and didn't allow her mind to wander whatsoever. If she was expecting anything it was some sort of test.
Soon enough they were out of the barracks and out into the fields beyond those familiar stone walls. The sun was setting, but there was still enough light in the sky to make out...were those wyverns? Of course, Ilheod was the Commander of a Wyvern squadron. What was their name again? Eris forgot the official regiment, but they were called the Nightwings, if she remembered correctly.
The sight of these wyverns and their riders immediately filled Eris with a plethora of emotions she was not keen on experiencing. There was a deep seated bitterness and a vile envy at the sight of that which she could never be. Yet an undeniable wonder and admiration all the same. The conflicting emotions tore away at her on the inside but she was desperate to ignore them, so once again she steered her focus on the objective...
Here there was more to admire but thankfully yes to be painfully envious of. The source of this wonder was Commander Ilheod. Even with all of those wyvern in the skies he seemed incredibly at ease, and completely in control. That was something Eris aspired to become. In control of the situation, at all times.
He gave her and Sudreth a warning, though it wasn't anything new to Eris. The soldier had come across more than a few wyvern riders and knew that the beasts had quite the temperament. It was precisely why Eris couldn't ride them. At first her old Sir had found it amusing. He worded it as "You wouldn't be able to ride one because they don't see you as a human, but as a rival wyvern trying to assert dominance!"
Eris had a fairly massive outburst at the jest, and it was only after that her old Sir learned how much that truth pained her.
Commander Ilheod gave a whistle and, just like that, a particularly large wyvern broke apart from the group in the sky and descended down to ground level. It landed right near Ilheod, so it must have been his personal mount. Humorously enough the beast turned it's gaze to Sudreth and fixated on him. The gaze was...not necessarily a friendly one. Or was it?
The Commander's next move truly impressed Eris. As the other wyverns were so high up, and their riders would likely be unable to hear him, he gave his own wyvern, apparently named Astraeus, a command to call to them. The wyvern let out a shriek, the likes of which actually forced Eris to curse under her breath and cover her ears with her hands. Just like that, his unit came together and they landed in around the group.
Command over his men and his wyvern. Complete and total. Eris' other superiors did have some admirable qualities to them, but the Commander was in a class of his own.
Eris inspected some of the other riders in the unit, spying the man who had given Sudreth an inspection earlier and also spotting two men who resembled the Commander to a certain degree. Brothers, perhaps. It wouldn't surprise her, and would even explain a lot. A military family was highly likely to produce a capable Commander. Of course, Eris still had to see how the Commander would handle a battle, but what she had seen so far was impressive.
Once again the Commander brought up Sudreth's supposed curiosity towards soldiers, and it left Eris inherently curious as to what exactly he had in mind for the thief. After all the Commander's intention appeared to be to leave Sudreth in Eris' custody, but for now the boy was his. What exactly did he intend to do to him, or have him do?
"Impressive display, sir." Eris spoke up now. She normally wasn't the one to be too curious about the future, but her curiosity was certainly piqued. "But I wonder what you could possibly have in mind for this th...boy, that required the presence of your entire unit." She supposed he wasn't a "thief" anymore, but Eris wouldn't soon forget that he was one. It had been her first label for him and it was not a label that would peel off easily.

Once their little meeting was over, Ilheod gave the orders for both Sudreth and The mustache twirling villain Albrecht to follow him. Albrecht gave Sudreth a look that said "follow me" and Sudreth did as such, but more so out of curiosity of what Ilheod wanted rather than any desire to follow orders given by her. Following the two through the barrack halls, looking around the place a bit more now that he knew he was going to be here much more often.
The fresh outdoor air hit Sudreth as they left the building and he couldn't help but yawn as he felt more relaxed outside than being cooped up in the musty old barracks. He stretched for a bit and looked around to see if he could spot what Ilheod wanted to show them. After not being able to identify it he was about to ask Ilheod when he gave the sudden warning. "Stay near me...and make no sudden movements." Sudreth wondered what he meant by that as there was no danger he could immediately detect. He noticed both Ilheod and Albrecht looking up and so when he did too he got his answer. "Oh my..." Sudreth gasped.
The sight of the Wyverns made Sudreth's heart race in a mix of both fear and excitement. he had only heard tales of the mighty beasts and had never seen one up close. Too distracted with the beauty of the Wyverns with riders, Sudreth was surprised when a titan of a wyvern landed in front of Ilheod, startling Sudreth enough to make him jump.
Ilheod pet the beast giving Sudreth relief knowing that the beast was tamed. He wanted to ask Ilheod if he could pet it, but decided against it, though the desire was still there.
"So lad. You wanted to see if you could be a soldier, eh? Let's see if that's really true."
"What do you mean by that?" Sudreth asked raising an eye brow.

The Devilslayer inhaled sharply. Until his lungs had filled entirely before he spoke in a bellowing tone of absolute authority, commanding his entire unit with a volume easily heard over the generally silent gathering up until that point. His left hand gripped at his blade a bit tighter before he did.
"NIGHTWINGS. FAITH CIRCLE, TWENTY MARK."
Simultaneously every man guided his wyvern. Each one moving independently, yet moving with almost flawless synchronization. The sky was filled with beating wings and shuffling wyverns as the riders formed a monstrous ring that gave roughly thirty yards of space but allowed for each man to sit atop their scaled mounts with a few feet of space between them. They were in complete uniformed position, and as they did so, it became obvious that the aging commander had something planned. He looked up to his Wyvern, patting the monstrously large Astraeus atop his snout while he stood there to briefly look at the beast. He raised his other hand to press it to his opposing jaw and bumped his forehead gently to the bridge of the wyverns snout.
In that moment, there was a small connection between the two. A conveyance. An understanding. When partners had bonded over the lifetime that they had, for a quarter of a century, it became very easy to communicate on all spectrum's. In this regard? Restraint. Trust. Respect. In absolute silence they conveyed a lifetime of emotion and thought, and managed to ignore the rest of the world.
That was...until Ilheod turned and started to walk away from the center of the newly formed circle. Ilheod's hands clasped for the silver infused spear resting upon his back, and he unsheathed it while he made long strides. He spoke out in a fairly assertive tone, yet lacking the harsh edge he would've placed upon orders for his own men.
"Private Albrecht, if you would follow me. It's time to leave the young sir alone with Astraeus."
Ilheod pinched his tongue beneath his teeth and let out a loud whistle that pierced the air. Every rider lowered their spears and propped them atop their mounts shoulders so that the "exit" to the ring was lined with spear tips and poised Wyverns. Ilheod, standing just shy of one of his own men's spear tips, turned to stab his spear in the ground before leaning against it and resting his weight upon the unyielding metallic weapon. He shouted out to the young thief, with a stern look upon his face.
"Alright lad! This is what we call a faith circle. Most riders go through it. You, are going to earn my wyverns trust, or attempt to..."
He briefly paused, to let it sink in. However, this wasn't a question. This was a statement of fact. After another brief pause Ilheod spoke up.
"ASTRAEUS, STALK."
The wyvern's murky dark midnight blue scaled head tilted briefly to its rider, before slowly back to the young boy. Piercing emerald hued eyes fixated on him intently before the wyvern slowly unfolded it's wings entirely as if to emphasize it's size. The boy's head barely reached the lower segment of one of the wyvern's four limbed shoulders. Astraeus opened his deadly maw before letting out a head splitting shriek like roar and flapping his wings once, lunging into the skies instantly only to rotate in the air and land many yards away from the young boy.
"Good boy! Alright! Lad, I want you to find a way, to bring my wyvern to me. "
