the calculator version of FFVII was eerily similiar in structure to the old DQ/DW games.... And buggy. I think you hit a certain level and the game reset or something...

Has anyone played Chocobo's Dungeon 2? It was for playstation, and I think Pokemon Mystery Dungeon stole ideas from it since it was not well known.

I actually own that game. It's entirely too much fun by half, let me tell you.
I also own Chocobo's Racing, which is my favorite racing game... which is rather odd now that I think about it.

Actually, BOTH games steal from the original Torneko no Daibouken: Fushigi no Dungeon game, for the SNES. If I'm not mistaken, that was the first game to use this kind of system. In case you don't know, the game came as a spin-off for the Dragon Warrior/Quest series. This, in particular, from DW IV.
And yes, I've played it. I also heard that the DS "Chocobo Tales" plays similarly(although I don't know HOW much similar).

So Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off of Dragon Warrior?

There, I started playing Legend of Dragoon again like I said I would a month ago.

The "dungeon" games are a sub-set of RPGs. I think Matis mentioned the first one. The rest are others in the series. If you think about it, it's like saying every RPG is a rip off of DQ/DW.

Matthias has it right. The first one to "come up" with the idea of Mystery Dungeon was Enix(or rather, Chunsoft), with the game I mentioned above. Others simply followed suit later on(like Chocobo Dungeon).

True, but wouldn't Dragon Warrior be a rip-off of Adventure? Everything started in Atari.

If we get down to it, everything is a rip-off of something. Hell, we are a rip-off of monkeys.

Not to me... To me we're rip-off's of God. (Let us make man in our image)

I try not to speak about religion on the net, as it usually ends with pointless arguing, but yes. Depending on how you see it. Point is, we are still a rip-off.

I'd like to think there's a little something called human creativity. Yes, we take things and reengineer them, but still...

Yeah but we are directly evolved from monkeys, you can't say the same thing about Dragon Warrior. Or if you prefer the fairy tale version, God made both humans and monkeys: He had the copyrights.
