The cold wind bit into Matthias, causing him to shiver and pull his cloak tighter around him. Ilia wasn't pleasant, and it had only gotten worse in the month or so he'd spent here. He'd left to go find Flyssa, but the trail had gone cold. Quite literrally, actually. Murmuring to himself, he stomped towards a cave, desperate for shelter.

Fleetfoot's feet sent up clumps of snow as he traveled down the lonely road. Alexia had left to bring Matthias back to Ostia several months ago. Some how, he managed to avoid being found, probably through dumb luck alone. Sighing, Alexia leaned against her horse, weary from the lenghty search...
A group of bandits noticed the lone horseman, and a few of the sharper eyed cretins noted that she was female. hand motions were exchanged, and they quickly moved to the icy forest around her.
Alexia stiffened, hearing the rustling. PRobably bandits, thinking she was easy prey. She smiled to herself and prepared her sword, they were in for a surprise.

Matthias thought her heard something in the distance. Rising slowly to his feet, he hurried to the cave entrance. It was hard to see, and nothing seemed out of place. Sighing, he sat down close to the entrance. If something was up, he'd hear more.

Finally, a scruffy looking, bare-chested individual sprang from the surrounding forage. He fingered a rather nasty looking ax, and had a smile indicated a love for this sort of thing. "Ya know, it's dangerous for a lady ta be travelin' by 'erself dese days," he grunted. As he spoke, several men stepped out from the surrounding area. Most of them bore axes, like their leader, but a few had bows. Bows made the young horsewoman nervous. "Can I help you with anything?" she asked, buying time to ready her weapons. The leader grinned and exchanged a look with some minions. "Ya can 'elp us real nice," he drawled, motioning with his hands. Alexia recognized the gesture, and straightened up. The sword left the scabbord. "I am a knight of Pherae, and I am not someone to be toyed with," she warned. "If you leave now, I will not take your lives." The bandits reacted exactly as she expected... they began rolling on the ground laughing.

Matthias heard the laughter from his position. Groaning, he gathered up his things and headed out of his refuge. Standing out on the snowy landscape was Alexia. Matthias wasn't overly surprised to find the young knight out here. He seemed to have better luck finding her than Flyssa. Moving steathily, he creeped closer, positioning himself behind a tree. He could just barely make out the bandits as they rose to their feet. "Look, lady, even if you is a knight," the bandit stopped to chuckle, "there's no way youse can beat alla us by yourself." Matthias grinned to himself. "Who said she was by herself?" The bandits were now distracted, and perfect targets. Matthias quickly spun and fired off two shots with his long bow, aiming for the archers. The unexpected attack slew the bandits, and the numbers were beginning to look in the favor of the "good guys."

Alexia took advantage of the surprise Matthias had bought. She whirled around and dealt a bandit a hefty blow with her sword. Satified, she watched him fall to the ground. Fleetfoot whirled around quickly, and Alexia swung. The combined moving easily dispatched another bandit. The leader and a few swordsman were all that remained, and they did not look happy with the way things had turned. "Take da archer! I gets the girl!" the leader barked. His men charged for Matthias. Alexia watched them, praying that her old friend could fend them off. In her distracted state, she didn't notice the bandit charging...

Matthias did happen to notice the charging bandit, and quickly fired off a shot at the marauder. However, by doing this, he left himself open for attack by the other two. Quickly rolling to the side, Matthias barely dodged one of the cocky bandit's swings. Yet, the other had been watching, and landed a blow on the archer shoulder. Matthias barely noticed the pain, the adrenline surging through his body propelling him backwards. Switching effortlessly (you ever notice it doesn't take much time to change weapons in FE?) to the Short bow, he spun the arrow around. Something just clicked, and hte arrow easily felled the bandit who had missed.

Alexia moved quickly after Matthias risked himself to stop the charging bandit. With another well-aimed sword blow, she finished off the bandit leader. Fleetfoot charged right over his bleeding body as Alexia charged towards the swordsmen. with effortless skill, she switched to the lance, taking advantage of the edge it had on swordsmen. Seeing Matthias finish one off, she thrust into the other. He noticed her, and managed to dodge, and attempted to retatiliate. His swing missed, and left him open for Alexia to finish him off with a well placed thrust. The evil bandits lay bleeding in the snow, their ambush turned against them. Alexia quickly dismounted from Fleetfoot, and moved towards the leader. While doing so, she tossed her Vulnerary and her companion. "Heal yourself, I'm going to check his body. Then, we're heading back to Ostia," she commanded. Ignoring Matthias's grumblings, she knelt by the body. Surprisingly, the bandit was still alive. "We waz gonna rule," he heaved, blood bubbling from his lips. Alexia's brow furrowed, but the bandit continued. "Hargus woulda lead us ta win it all... Wes already gots Santaruz... Then those stinking noma..." He was cut off by an immense flow of blood, and his last words came out as a wet gurgle. Sighing, Alexia rose to her feet, and turned to Matthias.

Having already healed himself using the leant Vulnerary, Matthias stomped towards his old friend. The brown bag was shoved roughly into her, as Matthias growled. "Why exactly are you following me around? The lords are too busy pouting to do anything about the bandits!" The way things had been going, Matthias wanted nothing to do with the whole "save the world from bandits" quest." He just wanted to keep those he trusted safe.

"Look, we really need your help. Calis himself ordered me to come and get you. We need you Matthias. Besides, I think you missed Flyssa, what would she be doing in Ilia anyway?" Alexia waved her arms about. "That mage is such a city girl that she'd be hopelessly lost in a place like this. I think you're just running from something. We need you." She smiled reassuringly at her old friend. "Come on, let's head back to Ostia, they'll be waiting for us." Confident Matthias would follow, she hopped up onto Fleetfoot, and extended one hand.

(I know it's a big no-no to chat with alts [don't know why, as you can multi-post so long as your posts are about a certain lenght] but I want to get these two back with the group. I can talk to myself outside of an RPG, thank you very much) Matthias eyed the outstrecthed hand, looking as if it would damage him. Sighing, he grabbed on, and with the aid of the cavalier, mounted the horse. Who knows, maybe this Lord Calis would actually do something, or at least more than the rest of the nobility had. Grabbing onto his old friend, Matthias and Alexia rode towards Ostia, unsure of what awaited them there.
