Plot~
We wish for immortality and so we receive it.
We wish for safety and so we grant it
We wish for freedom and so we fight for it.
As the sun dawned on the horizon, the world slowly woke from its peaceful slumber, the night fading into day. The animals creep out from their makeshift shelters and the people crowd into the streets, recreating the same, mundane life they've always led. For thousands of years, this world, known as Euphrates was blessed with everlasting peace. However, there is also an eternal battle between ten, specific individuals known as the Me't (pronounced 'meh-et') each wielding a great power. Marduk, the observer of all ten entities, would make use of their powers and nearly abuse his right as 'watcher.' So, one day came when each of the ten entities banded together and fought Marduk, however, he proposed a deal. To the one person who can defeat the nine others and gain their power, he shall bow to them as his leader. Filled with cursed emotions, the ten 'contestants' turned against each other, falling into Marduk's trap. As each of them fell victim to one another only one remain, and she held the power of nature itself. She turned her sights to Marduk, where he laughed and cut her down, calling her a fool for falling prey to his trap. Ever since then, the ten individuals have been reincarnated in an endless cycle until one of them can take all the powers and remain victorious. Should that time come now? Only time will tell.
Main Characters~
Cecilia Ferand ~
Despite sealing her own memories in a previous reincarnation to remove the burden of the curse, her old personality still leaks out. She is the archetypal "ice queen," porcelain skin, lush, silky blonde hair and a piercing gaze that will make any person, man or woman, submit. Ironically, this recent reincarnation places her the princess of the most powerful kingdom on Euphrates, the Tigris Empire. She bears the powers of ice and, like her original self, the princess has a innate knack for dancing. Emulating the wardrobe of her original self, and inadvertently her kingdom, she wears a clash of European and Middle-Eastern clothing as evidenced by her 'dancer's scarf.'
Ivy Verdun ~
The victor in the battle in front of Marduk long ago, she keeps her bitterness about the ordeal. Being the only one who truly knows what Marduk's game is, she still falls prey to it and lusts for the victory position again, this time showing up omnipotent before he strikes her down. She is cunning and detached and will stop at nothing to keep her place as the 'winner.' Her clothing is also a clash of European and Middle-Eastern in this fictitious environment but she is less revealing than Cecilia (although the princess is much too revealing for one). She carries one odd piece of equipment with her and this is a tiny quiver of needles. Needless to say, they don't look harmless.
Verne Edikul ~
A playful man, he enjoys the aspect of the 'game' more than the 'end result.' He enjoys the competition, intrigue and combat between demi-gods that he doesn't care if he wins, just as long as he gets to have a good fight. He's blunt and reckless, and with his fearsome power of fire, possesses the most destructive power. Like his personality, he would rather charge in with his fists rather than fight with an effective weapon to suit his needs--then again a fist would fit him quite well. Differing from the two women above, Verne's style is mostly Middle-Eastern, even wearing cloth to cover his head (he does spend much time in the desert) but with a unique touch. He often makes the most of his powers and combines both his burning passion (pun intended) and martial finesse into one, eclectic style.
Enil Gallant ~
The only other power who lasted long enough before Ivy struck him dead. He has different ideas for this team and should it be he who is the victor, will force Marduk to revive the other nine and slay him there. Still, he prefers not to fall into the gambit and disguises himself in society. As of now, Enil is a knight in the very kingdom Cecilia is the princess of. Having retained his memories, he notices Cecilia almost instantly and in wake of Cecilia ignoring him, could only imagine that she also does not care--which is wrong. He's taken it upon himself to protect the ignorant, human folk, and Cecilia, from those who would seek after him or Cecilia. He is especially antagonist towards Ivy, who is equally rude. Reflecting his personality, one would guess Enil to be a warrior of light, well, he is. He makes use of a broadsword in battle and wears an attachable shield to his left arm, which he uses to protect himself from danger if need be. He restrains his power and only uses it to fight in battles against opposing kingdoms, like the Tigris Empire's 'archenemy,' the Shamash Empire. As the foil to Verne, his clothing is mostly European, reflecting on his position as a knight.
Inanna Edikul ~
An illustrious baroness, she distances herself from the petty war of humans and made herself known as an enchantress who's mansion hosted a little more than 'parties.' She's not dissimilar to her old self and makes it a habit to be apathetic about the entire matter. She spent most of her past lives lamenting on her irrational decision to be a part of the squad that would defeat Marduk. She hides herself inside her mansion to escape from the competition and hopefully be out of sight from the serious competitors. As her last name suggests, she is the sister of Verne and even though he enjoys a good fight, he promised to stay away from her until the time should come they they be the last two left. She wields the power of chaos, an epitome of "dark," and wields a scepter as her weapon. Her style of clothing is similar to her brother's and the most revealing of all the women.
Aiden Caldwell~
As the Earth incarnate, Aiden can use the might of the earth to defend himself from the dangers of the world. He is the most sturdy of the ten warriors and also the most quiet. During the battle with Marduk, Aiden gave his life in order to protect Ivy from certain death, knocking him out of the competition. He holds bitter resentment for the entire ordeal he's been put in and keeps himself in seclusion for most of his reincarnation cycles. He wields a rather large, triangular shield with pokers on each corner of the shield. He wears traditional, medieval-European style attire and fills out his clothing well. He's physically fit, like all of the warriors except for Cecilia, and living alone helps him train religiously. He is steadfast and protective and shows an affinity towards Ivy.
Aya Vandgris~
A quite cheerful and lovable woman and the second youngest of the ten. In the battle that started this cycle, she was the first to be slain, suffering a blow from both Aiden and Ivy. Like some of the other warriors, she abhors this little 'game' and hates Ivy because of it. In previous cycles, Aya would fervently seek out Ivy and kill her, regardless of age or health. Despite this, she is a likable and bubbly individual. Governing the powers of wind, she is a very agile and lithe girl--making use of her acrobatic "dagger play." An expert at her own craft, she even has the ability to let her daggers fly around and fight on their own, always sure they'll return to her just like a boomerang. She wears breathable, light clothing that help her move swiftly in battle. Her weapons are twin, three-pronged daggers that she can add a little flair to in terms of being showy.
Benjamin Adramm~
A rather toned and muscular man, he's the older brother of yet another warrior. One of the final four in the great battle in front of Marduk, (he was the third left standing), he is no incompetent fighter and he makes it known. He walks with a very present air of confidence, perhaps too confident, and a certain charm that could make any person take a second look. He's quite handsome, smart and an incredibly capable fighter, often boasting of his own abilities. From every cycle, he's always been reunited with his brother, Nikolas, who has the power over water. He likes to go by the named "Ben," and fights with a majestic spear that he handles well and makes it look like as light as a piece of paper. Having dominion over the element of metal, he's one of the more modern warriors and his style is a 'futuristic' style of clothing. To make use of his power, he rips the very substance from the earth apart from itself and uses anything that is metallic--even being able to reform his own weapon into multiple spears.
Nikolas Adramm~
The youngest of the ten and the fourth member of the 'final four' in the fight against Marduk, he is not to be underestimated. He takes an odd stance of his 'purpose' and extends all of his powers into healing rather than injury. He is the smartest of all the warriors and offers many strategies to help he and his brother win, or escape, against the other eight. Like Inanna and Verne, Nikolas will not hesitant to fell his brother given that they are the only two warriors left and has the powers to do so. Given that he can manipulate water, he can make a person drown just by increasing the amount of water inside of a person's body but he chooses not to, especially since it is a very difficult and dangerous process (the first time he tried it, he nearly died from exhaustion and dehydration). He wears clothes similar to his brother and dedicates his powers of water to healing instead of injury.
Rebecca Narnja~
The final warrior and personification of lightning, Rebecca is just as random and volatile as the natural phenomenon itself. She has a contradictory personality that conflicts with her actions more often than not, which led to her death in the battle between the other warriors. In past lives, Rebecca was betrothed to Benjamin but each time she died by his hand; however, she just cannot let him go. Her weapon of choice is a rapier and she utilizes an eclectic style of fighting that combines the power of lightning and swordplay. Having been close with Benjamin and Nikolas in the past, she also wears the 'futuristic' style of clothing as well. However, she is enticed by the style of Cecilia and Inanna.
Minor Characters~
Gilgamesh~
One of the four deities that oversee over the competition Marduk set up, he's one that promotes valiant battle and war. Should he find a warrior that abhors or dislikes fighting, he will either force them to fight or kidnap them and take them to Marduk to be killed. He is one of the more dangerous deities and enjoys the game Marduk laid out.
Ishtar~
One of the four deities that oversee the competition Marduk set up, she's the specialist in espionage and intrigue. However, Ishtar grows tiresome of this perpetual game and finds the joke to be old after thousands of years. She plans to ally herself with the warriors but she just needs to find an opening, and a cause to join.
Ereshkigal~
One of the four deities tht oversee the competition Marduk set up, she is always tailing behind Ishtar. Ironically, Ereshkigal is the keeper of peace. In times that Marduk is bored and tired with the game, he will call back Gilgamesh and Ishtar and send out Ereshkigal to mediate the warriors should they begin to fight. Like her sister, she is also tired of this game and wishes to end it, however she isn't so reluctant to leave her post as much as Ishtar is.
Nergal~
The last of the four deities that oversee the competition. Like the other three, Nergal is directly involved in the battle. His job is to make sure that each warrior does not ally or fall in love with each other. He would even go so far as to abort a pregnancy should he find out and rip the reincarnations of Verne and Inanna when they're born.
Nanna~
A deity on the same level as Marduk, he is a key component to the game. It is he who reincarnates each warrior should they die and the only deity to know where a warrior is at any time. Marduk and the other deities constantly try to coax the information out from Nanna but his intimidating powers and ethereal presence make it hard to coerce him.
Geography~
Euphrates~
The name of the world. The world was not officially named until one-thousand years after the battle between the warriors. It is named after a very large and powerful empire that succumbed to internal corruption located in the southernmost point of land in the world.
Tigris Empre~
The name of the new largest empire in the world. It is located in the northernmost point of land and suffers from a crippling farming season, which led to their conquest to lands with great farmland. It is currently expanding into other territories as well and hopes to conquer the entire world. As of right now, it holds land over an entire continent, the continent of Tigris.
Shamash Empire~
An empire that rivals Tigris in military might but not quite as large. It holds an extensive library on the ancient warriors of yore also and has a seemingly omniscient ruler.
Acadia~
A very large province in the middle of the world, it expands in a radial formation out to the borders of the Tigris' and the former Euphrates' empires. It is said that this land is blessed by many gods and thus its land is plentiful and leads to great harvest. It is left uncivilized for these reasons.
Assyria~
A small farming region located inside Acadia, it is a non-industrial and completely agricultural society. Many a time are the warriors resurrected here and interestingly enough, a devout believer in Nanna also resides here.
Babylon~
An empire located on an archipelago off the coast of the continent of Tigris. It adopts a hermit policy and many of the lands are left uncharted and unexplored. Not much information is given.
Rivers of Hope and Faith~
Two very wide and long rivers that extend through the empires of Tigris and Euphrates. Their waters overflow on the same day every year and were key to the development of both empires.
Zagros Mountains~
Large mountains that were in the former Euphrates empire. They are now a region of cruel weather. Many mountain climbers see this as the final test to say they are 'the best.'
Uruk~
The barren lands, as people call them, it's a large expanse of wasteland that encroaches upon the farmland of Acadia, is the entire region going to follow the same fate?
We wish for immortality and so we receive it.
We wish for safety and so we grant it
We wish for freedom and so we fight for it.
