Rain. Kelvin hated rain. It always made a mess of everything, especially this road that he and his brother were traveling on. He glanced over at his brother beside him "Hm," he thought, "This rain reminds me of Merio's personality. Very dreary and pessimistic." The duo was on foot, guiding their horses through the muddy road. "Brother," Kelvin asked, "When do you suppose we'll arrive in Santaruz?"

"I doubt we'll meet up with Sir Rayl anytime this week, brother. Mud is slowing down our horses too much. We may have to stop, soon." Merio looked at his brother. "You are not at all worried about getting ill, or worse, our horses getting ill?" Just like him, optimistic and light-hearted. Little, if any, bit of practicality in him.

"There you go again, brother. Worrying about every little detail.. Don't you ever just stop to smell the flowers?" Kelvin bent down and picked a flower. "Just look at this .... OW!!!" He dropped the flower, revealing several thorns in his hand. "Okay maybe not my smartest idea."

Merio couldn't help but laugh at Kelvin's pricked hand. "Here we go again, why are you not wearing your gloves? I thought you had them on." He stopped and looks at his brother's hand. "Luckily, they are big thorns. I think I can pull them out right now." He takes off his right hand's glove, and begins pulling them out. One, two... Jeez! They are big, but they're pretty deep in his skin! How tightly did he grab them?

"Ok, ok, not too hard... OW!!! Ok, there's only one more. Ok, ok, gentle, gentle... OW!!! Ok that's the last of them. I wasn't wearing my gloves because because they make my skin clammy when they get wet, and it's really uncomfortable!" Marcus slid his gloves on. The two continued on for a while in silence. After a while, a house appeared in the distance. "Hey look, Merio. A house, maybe we can rest there for a little while!"

Finally, all the thorns were pulled out. Nine. Friggin nine. "I wish you could notice these things, they are important to avoiding trouble. Alright. Let's go..."
Later, they both see the house.
"Hey look, Merio. A house, maybe we can rest there for a little while!"
He looks at the house, and sighs. "Alright. Maybe the rain will go away while we're there." He dismounts, and starts walking toward the house...

As the duo approached the house, Kelvin realized something was very wrong with this house. Several windows had been smashed and the door was kicked in. Faint murmurs could be heard from within. "Brother, this is horrible, what should we do?"

The house was ruined. However, even in these ruins, there were a few faint murmurs inside. "What should we do? There's someone in there! We have to help whoever's in there! Let's go in!" He ties his horse onto the house, and slowly walks in, sword drawn.
"Hello! Is anyone in there?"

Kelvin followed Merio into the house. "Hello? I anybody... Merio get down!" Kelvin tackled Merio to the ground as a hand axe sailed of their heads. Kelvin leaped to his feet and drew his lance. "We are official knights of Caelin traveling on our way to Santaruz. Stand down now and we'll spare your lives!" All he got in return from the shadows was laughter. "This is gonna be a long day," Kelvin muttered.

Mercio falls with Kelvin as the hand axe came. "Thanks... and now it's time to attack. Stay behind me and attack anyone that gets too close." He comes closer. "Don't say we warned you!"

A torch lit up in the room, revealing two bandits and one mercenary. Kelvin glanced up a little bit and saw a giant hole in the ceiling, where an archer stood. A board creaked behind him, and Kelvin whipped around, lance at the ready, behind him stood another mercenary sword at the ready. "This one's mine brother!" Kelvin shouted. Kelvin lunged forward hitting his foe's shoulder. The mercenary swung his sword, hitting Kelvin right in the side.

Merio jumped back a little. There were two brigands, a mercenary, and an archer. The archer had to be dealt with, as it could easily weaken them. He began climbing up some old stairs to eliminate the archer. Ack! The archer was not alone. Another mercenary and brigand guarded him. "Kelvin! Once you finish that mercenary, come up here! There's more of them up here!" He slashes at the archer, but both the brigand and the mercenary attack him. Luckily, the brigand missed, but the mercenary managed to get a blow on his shoulder.

"I'm a little busy at the moment!" Kelvin shouted sarcastically. He noticed that the swordsman had finished his lunge unbalanced, so Kelvin pushed him the the butt of his lance. The mercenary stumbled and fell on his face. Before Kelvin could land a blow however, one of the axemen charged at him, and he was force to block with his arm. The axe hit armor and and skin, causing his arm armor to shake and his arm to ache. "Dear gods," Kelvin thought, "That hurts." A moment later an arrow flew from the second floor and hit his boot, reaching his foot. "This may be a problem. There's too many of them."

Merio slashes one last time on the archer, causing him to fall. He then turns to the brigand and mercenary, and prepares to fight. The brigand charges, and Merio turns to the right, only getting a scrape on his arm armor. However, it left him in a good spot for the mercenary got get a shot on his shoulder. Uhhh, not good.
"Kelvin! Remeber to use that vulnerary if you're too injured!"

"Vulnerary, right." Kelvin realized that the axeman had left himself a little too exposed. Kelvin turned and delivered a kick right into the man's crotch. He crumbled down and Kelvin turned to the downed swordsman, stabbing first at his back and then through his head. "I GOT ONE, MERIO, I GOT ONE!!!" Kelvin yelled, forgetting that there was still one more axeman, who was running towards him. The axeman barreled into him knocking him down and sending his lance flying from his hand.
