Yaen nodded. "Yes, again, right now." he repeated with a wave of his hand. Leaving Valcrist to his exercises, Yaen took a moment to look at his sword. Not having much else to do, he began to unsheath it, and let it fall back into the scabbard, the gaurd giving a satisfying ding as he did so. He wasn't altogether sure why the boy named it. While he respected his swords, he had never named them. And Fang seemed so cliche`. But it was the boys sword, let him call it what he willed.

His attention, which should be on the beam, was being distracted as he watched Yaen with his sword. Somewhere, in the back of Valcrist's head, he was hoping he was appreciating the blade. It was as if he was craving approval from a person he didn't even know, and as much as he would like to put it out of his mind and focus on what was before him... over and over... He couldn't. He looked out of the corner of his eye silently, mentally comparing the blade to Yaen's incredible Wyrmslayer. It was no contest which sword was superior, and the wyrmslayer just screamed power and skill. His blade, however, was an elegant slim sword. It reminded him of the rapiers his mother sometimes made for noble homes, not as elegant of course, or even as effective, but not bulky and hard to wield like steel swords. It was light, and that fit him perfect, being of only slightly above average strength from working in the forge.
Before he knew it he slipped and his foot hit the ground and he had failed. "Crap." He muttered quietly to his self, and made his way back to the beginning. He needed to not get distracted, balance is all about concentration, or so he believed. Getting distracted so easily... is not something a good swordsman does.

Yaen seemed to be examining the sword, but he was watching his apprentice through the corner of his eye, a trait he learned a few years back. "It will be much easier if you stop looking at me and start doing what your supposed to." he stated bluntly, lifting and dropping the blade again, as if to put emphasis on his words. As Valcrist began the walk again, Yaen picked up a small rock. "A warrior must be able to think fast and move efficiently in times of stress." he stated. "In other words, DODGE!" And with that, he threw the rock.

It might be easier to concentrate if you didn't keep playing with my sword like that... The toll of the training was beginning to grate on his nerves. Each time he walked across the log, the desire to just up and quite only grew more alluring. Still, Valcrist redid the little boring action over and over and just absorbed the blunt words of his trainer like a sponge. Yeah, think fast and stuff... wait what was that last pa-
Next thing he knew he was on the ground, with a nice sized clonk on his head. It wasn't from the rock, but rather from whacking his head on the earth bellow. When the stone came he moved out of the way at the very last second, but found his self floundering for some solid spot to put his foot. He tripped, backwards, and landed hard on his back, his head plopping on the earth behind him. "Ah... ow..." Maybe I should of just let the rock hit me...

Yaen nodded. "Point and case." He stated, mostly to himself. "If this had been a fight, you'd be dead." he pointed out, standing up. "Allright, I'm hungry. Lets go back." he stated as he walked over to the beam. He tossed Valcrists sword into his lap, stooped down, and began tying the beam up again.

"I'm... dead? Figures..." With a groan he managed to lift his self up, rubbing the back of his head with a pained expression. He grabbed the sword as it fell, hilt and all. Taking a moment for his self, he looked it over once more. He's stared at this sword far more often then he felt comfortable saying, and something caught his eye. The hilt, the red gem on it was loose, and that made him feel guilty. I guess there's a reason people don't use these kinds of weapons in battle... He stared at the gem for a moment, a look of concentration on his face. He reached up with his fingers and plucked it off, it coming out of it's hold far more easily then it should. Probably shoddy gem setting... It's better this way.
So he stood up and stowed the red gem in his pocket, not sure what he should do with it, but now wasn't the time. "Ok, let me help you with that...." So he bent down to help Yaen with the long log.

Yaen merely nodded in agreement to Valcrists offer to help him. "Tell me, Valcrist..." he began, never once looking up from his knot, "What are you afraid of?" he asked. "What are the things that make you afraid? What make your nightmares?"

"What am I afraid of?" That's an odd question... He thought for a moment while his hand worked on the roped at his end. "Hrm.... I haven't really thought of that. I guess I'm afraid sandstorms, one time we got such a bad one that we had to close shop for an entire month to do repairs. I also don't like snakes too much..." He was thinking, he worked with fire too often to really be scared of it... and he's never even seen a thunderstorm in his life. "My nightmares usually involve people dieing..." His voice dropped a bit, he hadn't had a nightmare in a while, or atleast one he could remember. "Especially when I die first and can't do anything but watch as other people die." He shuddered as if a frigid breeze passed by.
"Oh, and spiders. Do those count?"

Yaen nodded. "Yes, spiders count. I don't care for them much myself." Yaen replied. "Fear is a funny thing. It makes rational men irrational. It makes a man feel small. But it's also just one of the things that are there to remind us that we are human." Yaen gave a final tug on his knot. "Allright, time to go."

"Ok, I'm ready on this end too." His legs were still jelly from all the walking, but he wasn't about to complain about it now. No, he'd complain about all day tomorrow when they're sore and achy. For now he tugged at his end as well, to make sure it's completely done. "I remember one time there was a rattlesnake in my room, I was only seven but I was so scared I couldn't speak... I tried yelling but no noise came out, and that only made it worse... Erm, nevermind. Sorry." He cut his self off, being embarrassed at the ending of that little story. "I'm ready whenever you are."
