Chelsea rolled her eyes at Yaen. She respected his idea, but she didn't like it. "Marquess Laus is never going to listen to us. We have to do something now. I know we can't fight them, we'll be destroyed. But... we need to know. What happened, if anyone's alive, what their force is here. We need information." She knew there would be resistance to that, but it needed to be said. If there was one thing, at least in her opinion, they needed, it was information. And she would stand by that.

OoC: Sorry for taking this long. Exams and what not.
Gabriel listened as Chelsea and Valcrist complained. Yaen was probably right, though. Going for an attack would be suicidal, and chances are that if anyone from Ostia was still alive, then Etruria was using them as slaves.
"Yaen is right. I wonder, though...what if I try to talk to them? I'd claim to be the son of an Etrurian noble sent by Kraft to assess the situation and to send a report back to him, as a way to prove myself and become part of his army or gain his trust. If it works, then we'd have the information we want, and I could ask for something to take back to Kraft as proof that I was here. If it doesn't work, then I can't say for sure. I'd probably be able to escape, with enough fire tricks."
"I'd use the name of another noble family, of course."
He pondered on it for a while, still not sure if it was a good idea.

Valcrist didn't that was a good idea. But he said nothing, he already sounded like a little kid. He didn't need to compound to the anymore then he already has. He didn't know why it was a bad idea, it just sounded like one. It just sounded like something doomed to failure. He didn't know about Gabriel at all, so it actually kinda didn't make sense. What did he mean about 'another noble family'? Who was Gabriel really? His mouth was sealed tightly as he stared at the ground with clenched fists.

Yaen looked over at Chelsea. "Marquess Laus was the one who hired me to see if Ostia still stood." he replied. "I am fairly certain he would listen to the message, seeing as he paid me to get it to him." he pointed out. "You can all do as you wish. I, however, am going to be practical. I am sending my message to Marquess Laus, and then I am going to stay out of this war."

"Very well, then. We'll head back to Laud and relay our message to the Marquess. I guess there is no point in staying here any-"
A not so distant howl sent a chill down his spine and stopped Gabriel mid-sentence. As if from nowhere, 6 wolves came from down the hill and quickly encircled the group. "What the...? Since when are wolves this close to civilization? I thought they lived in mountains and the Sacae plains, and stayed there for the most part..."
Something was...odd about these. Their fur was practically non-existent. Their eyes were a dashing mix of red and gold, their claws almost as big as the hilt of a short sword.
"What the hell are these things...?" Gabriel said almost in a whisper, as he took out his tome. It was only a matter of time before the creatures made their first move. They seemed to be waiting themselves for the humans to react before their struck.

Kelvin had been unnaturally quiet as he had listened to the group discuss. Politics wasn't really his thing, so his comments weren't really needed. He was getting ready to move on, when the wolves came running from the woods. Kelvin had never seen anything like them and they scared the hell out of him. Kelvin turned Kashmir towards the wolves and readied his lance. He didn't know what these things were, but if they were gonna hurt Chelsea or any of his friends, he was going to tear them limb from limb. "What the hell are these things," he shouted to Gabriel.

The howling drove chills down Yaen's spine. Instinctively, he lept up, unsheathing his swords. "Father Sky..." he muttered, slowly looking around with his eyes.
"What the hell are these things...?"
"These...." Yaen started, "These are the reason I was seperated from the group Marquess Laus sent out." he explained with a grim voice. "...These are no normal beasts. Exercise extreme caution." he warned. This wasn't good. Chelsea couldn't fight so close. Gabriel's magic was effective, but he wasn't exactly a close ranged fighter either. There was Kelvin, and that helped, but it was still an uneven fight. The other melee fighter here was Valcrist, and THAT was nothing to be thankful for. As for himself, he wasn't sure if he could beat them, although he was better prepared this time around. "...If you all wish to flee, and I advise you do so, do it now. I will try and stall them as long as I can."

Kelvin listened to Yaen as he described these beasts. He had to admit, he admired Yaen's bravery, but he wasn't about to abandon him. "Yaen, I'm not going to leave you here to die. I'm gonna help you fight these abominations," Kelvin said giving Yaen a strong look.

Chelsea jumped back up onto Spirit and pulled out her bow. Brushing back her hair, she looked over at Yaen. "Don't be daft. There's no way I'd leave a fellow Sacaen behind. We'll be beside you. Or maybe a little ways behind," she added with a wink as she readied an arrow."Plus, I can't leave Kelvin behind."

You know, that never works. Telling people to run and save themselves? It never works. Valcrist has read more then enough stories and faerie tales to know that by now. He swallowed hard, but it did nothing to remedy the lump in his throat. These things were... horrible looking. Not just nightmarish, but aesthetically as well. Ugh, they were just so ugly. Valcrist rose a hand to the hilt of his sword, nervous but not fleeing. He didn't say anything, but he felt that he didn't need to. It was obvious he wasn't going anywhere if only by the fact that Chelsea and Kelvin stayed. If he left, he would be branded a coward for all eternity by his own self-esteem. A pity too, running sounded really good right about now...
With a quick tug, the black blade came loose. He stared at the beasts, sure they would haunt his dreams one day. Okay Valcrist. You can do this, stay light. Stay balanced. Like Yaen taught you. A single hesitation can be your death, so stay alert. Think fast and move efficiently, and, of corse, DODGE!

Yaen was split from his group thanks to these...? I'm no swordsman, but even I can tell that Yaen is very skilled. Just how wicked are these things?
A second howl pierced their ears. A signal for attack. Still recovering from this second screech, Gabriel summoned a fireball with his Fire tome. One of the wolves tackled him and bite his arm, just before he could smash the fireball on the wolf's face. The beast backed away, face half-burned as Gabriel attempted to stand up. Blood ran down his left arm and down onto the ground, slowly coloring the ground into a dark shade of red.
"Ugh...I didn't expect that..."
The wolves had broken formation, some having lunged towards the rest of the group. One stayed behind, watching, as he slowly encircled all of them.

"Very well, but do not blame me if you lose your lives." he stated. He met the gaze of one of the beasts with a glare of his own, slowly swaying side to side. "Get into formation!" he ordered. "Chelsea, Gabriel, you get back. Valcrist, get behind me, cut down any that get past. Kelvin, circle around them, keep them on their toes!" The Sacaen's voice left no room for question or argument, a strange contrast from his usual manner of speech. These peoples-these kids- lives were in his hands. "Valcrist, help Gabriel get back! Chelsea, cover Valcrist!" he barked, swaggering forward in an almost drunken waltz towards the closest hound. He brought both his blades up from the ground towards the beast, cutting into its side. He then reversed the swing, spinning around and bringing the blades down from above onto the other side, the combined effect of the four slashes bringing the beast down. (I am Jeigan, hear me roar.)

The novice nodded silently, listening to his teacher. He wasn't experienced in fighting, but Yaen's orders were straightforward enough that even he understood. Yaen was the first line, while he was the second. Chelsea and Gabriel supported from a distance, and Kelvin flanked them. Valcrist moved quickly, put all those lessons in balance to good use, and covered Gabriel while he moved in position. A burnt looking wolf monster came lunged right at the two, probably going after the wounded Mage, but the novice getting in it's way.
He held his blade low to the ground and watched the wolf, it watched him as well. Focus... His eyes darted for a moment, to see if the were any other wolves coming at them, and in that moment he was attacked! The beast lunged at him, fangs snarling and aiming to get the boy on the ground, to tear out his throat. He wasn't ready, he hadn't been paying attention... but, by the slightest fraction of a second, he managed to move out of the way in time, the wolf-beast lunging at empty space. Quickly, without even time to think, he lunged his blade deep inside the monster's body. The monster let out a final howl, the combined damage from the earlier fireball and now this blade piercing his body, it was too much. It fell and moved no longer.
Now, however was not the time to freak out over killing a living thing, or was it time to celebrate his victory. Instead he removed the bloody blade from the corpse, and moved back into position, near the wounded mage, keeping his eyes split for another enemy.

Chelsea dropped back on Spirit, who was calm in spite of what was happening. The archer took aim at the closest of the dog-things and let the arrow fly. It hit the beast in the side, but it kept going. Chelsea frowned and drew another arrow. That didn't look look. It then started towards Val, but not before Chelsea attacked first. This time, the arrow hit it right between the eyes and it dropped just short of Val. Not even taking time to sigh in relief, she loaded another arrow and looked for a new target.

Kelvin watched as the wolves spread out. He followed Yaen's advice and started circling around. One wolf had been circling the group and he kept his eye on that one as he moved to attack another one. He urged Kashmir forward, as he stabbed it in the back leg, then got another blow on its back. He wheeled Kashmir around for a second go, but the first wolf, which he had lost track of, was already on top of him, pulling off of Kashmir. "Sh**," he thought, as the he threw up his arms to block the wolves claws, "This could be bad!"
