Tara looked at Calvin when he talked, and she couldn't help but smile. He was so full of youthful energy... look at me, thinking like I am so old. But... twenty-six must seem like a lot to someone as young as Calvin. Thinking about it, I hardly remember being his age. The only things that stand out are the letters from my sister after she was wed. How scared I was, miserable, even, after I read them. Tara mused to herself, bordering on self-pity.
"You know, I never really did get to spend much time with my sister after she was married. I only talked to her now and again, through letters." she stopped and thought about Calvin's offer. Playing music? That did seem like something siblings would do together. "I would love to play music with you, Calvin, but I was never really taught how to do anything like that. Maybe you could teach me?" she did not want to sound rude, so she phrased it as nicely as possible.
As Calvin mulled it over, Tara used the time to run up to the inn keeper and tell him their order. She ordered Calvin a toasted cheese sandwich. She didn't really know if he liked anything, but she did know that most children were fans of cheese... And for herself, she ordered a cold cucumber sandwich, something light, yet satisfying. She returned to the table and tossed back a lock of hair from her shoulder. "The barkeep said he would have our order up as soon as possible. It must be a slow day."

Calvin listened to Tara, absorbed and fascinated by their conversation. He had never had a conversation like this before, it made him want to do the same with all his friends, like Isabel and even Jya! He wanted to know more about his friends! Calvin’s face light up, Tara accepted his offer! Calvin could play music with someone, he was so excited! Although she mentioned she couldn’t play herself. Calvin thought for a few moments. Tara had returned mentioning their order was taken but Calvin was deep in thought. His parents taught him to play both the flute and the lute, aswell as sing. Someone like Tara must have a beautiful singing voice, and since Calvin was more skilled in his flute everything seemed to work out. A mischievous smile expanded across Calvin’s youthful face as he energetically rose from the table and looked down on Tara, excitement glistening in his eyes.
“THAT’S A GREAT IDEA! I’ll teach you to play the lute in no time!”
Calvin fell back into his seat smiling childishly to himself. Then suddenly an idea drilled into his head and he quickly spoke across to Tara again.
“Does this make us brother and sister?!?! OH, are we best friends aswell! You’ll be my best friend older sister wont you Tara?!?!”

Tara couldn't hold back her laughter at Calvin's suggestion. She laughed for a good minute or two, tears almost coming to her eyes. After she calmed down, she noticed how her laughing could have been taken. She was laughing at the boy's excitement, not his ideas. She reached over to Calvin, hoping she didn't hurt his feelings, and said, "I'm sorry I laughed. I did not mean it to sounds like I am making fun of you. Quite the opposite, actually! I think you are very kind, Calvin, to take so quickly to someone like me. I would love it if we were to spend more time together, but...
"I am not really someone to look up to. I have my faults, and I have made some very bad decisions in my past. I would love it if we were to become good friends, but I do not think I am someone to praise to the level of a sibling."

Calvin wasn’t confused, but he didn’t have the right idea either. He had no idea of the possibility Tara was laughing at him, he assumed everyone was having a good time and everything was all hunky dory. She pointed it out to him and he thought about it for a moment. He didn’t understand what there was to laugh about his idea in the first place, but as long as she wasn’t making fun of him he didn’t care. In fact Calvin blushed gently at the few compliments she threw in. He smiled innocently and let out a slight cheer, however his cheering came to a sudden stop as she explained something else to him. Calvin listened trying his best to understand this time around. He couldn’t believe someone like Tara had made bad decisions. He didn’t even wonder what they were.
“I like Tara! I don’t care what you’ve done before, because this is the Tara I know now, and this is the Tara I like! Let’s be best friends for a long time! “
She did toss in a new fancy word, sibling. Calvin had never heard the word before but he was able to piece together its meaning from Tara’s sentence. Calvin learned a new word!
“Someday Tara will earn the level of sibling! Until that day, Let’s work hard as friends!”

Tara wondered how Calvin must be processing this information. She had an idea that he wouldn't ask anything too deep to her; she remembered not really understanding how people who were nice could make bad choices at that age, either. Tara wondered how the boy felt about the old stories of heroes, and if he would add his own spin on them, like many troubadours did. She decided that such a talk would last them until their food arrived, anyway.
"So, you are a bard, so you must like stories, right? I'm sure you have loads of things to tell about ancient heroes and the like. Is there any in particular?" she asked him.

Surprisingly enough Calvin new little stories, most children were told bedtime stories of fairy tales of folklores. This was mostly for their entertainment. Calvin’s family specialised in performing. They all played instruments and danced, and taught Calvin to do so also, though his dancing skills were lacking because he always seemed to trip… The family would spend most of their time playing music together, which is how Calvin grew so talented in his instruments, but at a high price. He didn’t know any stories, he had no friends, he knew nothing about fighting or working with anything besides animals and crops, his knowledge of the outside world was low. He didn’t let it upset him, he used it as motivation. All of this was going to change now that he started his journey. He was going to make a ton of friends, and learn lots of stories and even make his own stories by going on different adventures!
“I don’t know any! I left home on an adventure because I wanted to make friends, and hear lots of stories! I want to learn so much about the world and experience everything! I want to go on adventures and one day return home with lots of stories! I’m so excited because my first adventure is finally beginning!”

Tara nodded at Calvin, taking in his words. She guessed that he must be a fine musician, if he can be called a bard without knowing any tales. "Making friends is always a good thing Calvin" Tara began, "and the world is a big place. Not everyone will be kind to you, and not every place will welcome you. But know that if you are very in need, you will have me to lean in" She imagined herself and Calvin, travelling together. Perhaps with Izzy and Jya, the four of them would make a great team.
Their food came while she was lost in her musings, and the pair began to eat. "I do hope that we will be able to make it through our first adventure without too much trouble. Some trouble is fun and exciting, but you do not want to start with more than you can handle."

Calvin listened to Tara. He didn’t respond, but rather listened for once, actually understanding for the first time. He knew the world was big, bigger than he could possibly imagine and he knew exploring it could take a lifetime, but as long as he had his friends he was willing to take on any challenge. No matter the people, the places, Calvin was prepared to overcome anything! He was excited to have his new best friend Tara support him. Their food had finally arrived and Calvin began pecking away at his toasted sandwiches, he wasn’t hungry but still managed to enjoy the food with his friend.
“We’re going to do great!”

Tara closed her eyes and smiled. "I think we will make a great team!" She finished the rest of her food and sat back in her chair. "I do think that we will have a challenge ahead of us... WE will just have to relay on each other in order to make it. That Valorian... He is a mystery, but I do not thing he would lead us in to anything that is over our heads. Now, let's get back to camp and get ready to venture!"

Calvin smiled. He finished off his food before sitting up and preparing to leave. He understood the challenges that might lie ahead but was ready to face them. He knew he could rely on Tara, Isabel, Jya, Rayl just about any of his friends, even that new priest Valorian! He knew he would have to work as hard as he can so his friends can also rely on him. He stood up from his seat with Tara and together the two headed back to meet the others, It was finally time to start! Calvin’s heart was pounding…
