Let it be known.
Etruria is ruled by the Prophet, Kraft. The Prophet is a cruel, heavy-handed, theocratic dictator. Thus, Etruria, the country in which he rules is run like a cruel, heavy-handed, theocratic dictatorship.
Essentially, think of Etruria like Nazi Germany. The government is filled to the brim with numerous corrupt, scheming, exacting men. They are land hungry and power hungry, like their Prophet, and do not care of the people that get sacrificed on their way to Etrurian supremacy. They have spys and secret agents at home and abroad, much of the populous is indoctrinated, and soldiers roam the streets keeping the citizens in check. The average Etrurian has little personal freedom and just being a "non-believer" can get you killed. In fact, if someone calls you a "non-believer" and you don't have the money or influence to convince anyone otherwise, you can be killed as well.
All of this is done under the cloak of a higher power and a greater good.
In this case, the highest power in the land is the Prophet, but his authority supposedly comes from St. Elimine, a hero of the Scouring and the founder of the Elimine church, a church which has influence all over Elibe, but is far and away strongest in Etruria. Thusly, like Nazi Germany, much of the populous is swept up in fervor for their leader. Many average citizens do not know of the travesties Etruria inflicts upon the other countries, and even the ones who do are generally brainwashed into believing that it is all well and good. Thus is the will of the Prophet, thus is the will of St. Elimine.
Now, this matters because of people RPing in Etruria. When you RP somewhere, you have to take everything that comes with it, and Etruria is no exception. Yes people can live long happy lives in Etruria, but only if they don't cause any problems for the government or the church and do their duties as quiet, content believers in the church.
While the national border is too long and far reaching to be monitored, going in and out of most Etrurian cities is not as it is in Lycia, or Sacae, or Ilia, or even much of Bern. People are monitored, especially those with large amounts of goods, or those arriving into bustling ports, and access is denied more times than not. Just visiting ones family can be dangerous, because if the church doesn't like you and realizes who your family is, they know exactly where to apply the pressure.
Please keep this in mind if you are making an Etruria thread. There is plenty of great RPing opportunity in Etruria, but if you want to RP a nonchalant city scene where friends are made and adventures abound, and you don't want to do it in the countryside or on the nation border, then it is advised that you do it elsewhere. Etruria is not for you.
All hail St. Elimine and Her Prophet!
