Aurek and Yashi sat for a moment. She was the first to break the silence, "Well...?"
"Well what? You're supposed to ask me questions. I just want to eat," Aurek's deadpanned response could hardly be construed as promising. He leaned back in the chair and sighed heavily. These twins were a pain.
"So... why were you and um... Yunneth in your small clothes?" She sounded nervous. Almost like she expected something terrible. Aurek couldn't help but smirk slightly. His vagabond old man look was still solid.
"Health reasons. She was injured. We were all wet and tired. Wet clothes take away body heat. You're a healer. You should have guessed that." His response was lackluster. Hardly the reaction Yashi most likely expected. "Despite appearances, I'm not some lecherous individual." Aurek paused briefly, considering his next words. "I did cop a quick feel though." He smiled proudly.
"What? What did you do?!" Yashi practically screamed. Clearly she was not happy. Time to calm her down.
"Relax, girlie. I'm blind. I had to check for wounds and such after that lump you call a brother passed out. Didn't know who or what it was. Didn't intentionally do it. So chill." He rubbed his temples. The pressure helped relax him. "Can I get some food now?"
The woman had calmed down enough at this point to sit still and slide the stew over. Finally! Aurek thought. His movements were slow and careful. Bringing the bowl to his lips, he could feel the steam rising into his face. As he tilted the bowl backwards, the hot liquid rushed passed his partially parted lips. The savory taste lingered in his mouth as he swirled the meal about. A quick swallow and a deep, contented exhale were the only sounds in Aurek's ears. And they were beautiful. Setting the bowl back down, he focused once more on Yashi. She was a good cook. He would give her the information she wanted. As payment. Not that he was going to tell her that. Aurek didn't owe people anything. Ever. "Now, what else did you want to ask me?"
"Do you know what Butorega was doing before you guys met?" There was concern in her voice. Aurek knew that sound. His mother had sounded the same before he left. Shoving down those memories, Aurek considered his options. Honesty would have to do for now.
"I don't know. We've only known each other for a few hours. A day at the most. All I know is he was involved in some unsavory business. But that's hardly a surprise given the times we live in. He'll be fine." He didn't know why he wanted to reassure he, but he felt it was necessary. Everything was weird with these two twins. Aurek couldn't figure out up from down anymore. "And I don't know where we'll be going when we leave." Probably into something stupid. he wanted to add but didn't.
"Oh," and that was it. They silently ate the food. When they were finished, Yashi took his bowl back to the kitchen. Just as Aurek was about to leave she came back. "I have some wine if you'd like it. I don't drink and it's been just sitting around." Aurek could tell there was some connection but didn't pry. It wasn't his business, and he didn't see the point of making it so.
Taking the bottle, he popped it open. The move was practiced from years of fake drinking. "You sure you don't want any?" He saw no reason to cause a problem anymore. He was tired, and she was bothered by something.
"No, I'll be fine." Aurek took a small swallow. It was sweet but the alcohol burned slightly. It was excellent. Again, the two sat in silence. Yashi was drinking something and so was Aurek. There was a silent communion that Aurek immediately recognized. He knew it would eventually lead to talking. No one usually wanted to talk to the scraggly, old man but he'd seen it enough to know how it worked. After a while, they did start talking. it was slow but gradually warming up. For Yashi, it was probably the stress. For Aurek, he just kept telling himself it was the alcohol. The two talked about everything and nothing. A bond was formed. Aurek could hear Butorega going to sleep. And still the two talked. Finally, it seemed time to sleep.
"Do you have a room I could stay in?" Aurek inquired. "It's late and I don't know when we'll be leaving."
"Okay," was the forlorn response. Setting aside the empty bottle, Aurek rose tipsily to his feet. Yashi grabbed his proffered hand and led him to a room. Just as he could feel her leaving, Aurek held her tightly and pulled her close.
He could feel her hot breath on his face. Their breathing was heavy. He could feel her resisting slightly. Leaning his forehead against hers, he wrapped his hands around her head. "I promise to keep your brother safe," he whispered. Releasing her, he fell backwards and, fortunately, landed on a bed. Sleep took him but not before he heard the door close. A strange, but happy smile spread over Aurek's face. He passed out.

Yunneth looked at Butorega as he offered her the room. She just looked at him oddly. Didn't he want to sleep in his own bed? It was gods know how long since he was home. Yunneth just stared and sighed. She got her things and moved to his room where she could tend to her clothes in peace. She did not mind her conversation with Butorega but she felt a little uncomfortable how she could so easily tell him about what happened. Was it just because he was easy going? Yunneth sighed and continued to mend her clothes. perhaps she would wander off to a lake and bathe. She really didn't see any kind of bathing area and after being covered in her own blood, Yunneth could go for a moonlight swim. But she needed her robes first. Yunneth sat there on the bed and looked at the dusky sky.

"Butorega... Butorega...Butorega". His name echoed over and over as the young brigand found himself on a black ship. The sails were ripped and torn, and the wood was rotten and old. His name continued to be chanted, and seemed to grow ever louder by the minute. Even still the Brigand kept his cool. He knew what it was. He knew this was a dream, but he could not wake himself from it.
"Butorega", his name was called out once more. Over the horizon he saw and inland filled men and women. Their flesh was mauled and some of them where even burned. Their eyes were a pale white and their hair thin and scraggly. In unison they chanted his name welcoming him to this island. Butorega knew what it was, and he knew what they wanted.
"Join us brother", they spoke with their arms stretched out. He knew them. He knew them all, not by name, but he knew them. Every man, and every woman was killed by the brigand. During his four year tour with black leather bandits he had built quite a kill count, and their souls never seemed to rest.
The ship moved ever closer as the voice grew ever louder. Eventfully the nightmare reached its climax. The ship touched the shore, and legions of dead spoke once more. "Welcome Brother", and it ended.
Butorega awoke on the sofa. The sun was still set and a calm quiet filled the house. A single drop of sweet ran down his forehead. Butorega immediately reached for his axe, and headed for the door. It was not the first time he had ever had this dream, nor did he believe it would be the last. In times like this it was good to get some fresh air.
Butorega walked outside, and stared into the moon light. The moon was beautiful, though it was not full. The brigand took in a few breaths of air before he heard the door open once more. He turned around to see his sister Yashi. In her hand was her old practice sword.
"Can't sleep", she spoke staring at her brother. She took note of his axe.
"Yeah", he spoke as he re strapped it to his waist.
His sister took a step forward before she began to speak. "Same here, I keep having this weird nightmare."
"Nightmare", spoke Butorega with a surprise tone. So even my sisters is having this dream thought Butorega.
"So you had the dream too", spoke Yashi, but there was no surprise in her voice.
"No", spoke the bandit in an attempt to deny it.
"I can tell when you are lying", spoke Yashi. "Come on Buto I have known you since the day were both born. You can't lie to me."
"I hate being twins", spoke Butorega as his sisters walked in front of him. She took a seat under a nearby tree, and patted the ground for her brother to join her. Obediently Butorega followed and took a seat near the maiden. As Butorega sat down Yashi leaned her head on his shoulder.
"I worry about you, you know."
"What there to worry about", spoke the Brigand. "I can handle myself you know that."
"I know that", she spoke. "But I worry about your mind. You go out their fighting and meeting all these strange people. I feel like you’re going to come home one day, and be a totally different person."
"Hay have more faith in me than that", spoke Butorega. "I am me, and nothing will ever change that."
"Really" she spoke as she stared up at her brother. "Then you can tell me what you have been doing for the past four years." Butorega immediately turned his head and looked the other way.
"That is privet he spoke without turning around. He knew the look his sister was giving him, and did not want to see it."
"Whatever", she spoke as she rose from the ground. It surprised him the way she gave up so quickly. It was very unusual for her. "You better get some sleep Buto, or you are going to be sleepy tomorrow. Oh", she spoke as she turned around toward the Brigand. "Stop talking to corpse", and with that she walked into the house.
"So now we share dreams", spoke Butorega as he drew his axe from his belt. He held the weapon in his right hand as he looked into the night sky. "I think I am going to sleep out here", he spoke to himself as slipped into dream land. Butorega was use to sleeping under the stars, and today would be not different.

Yunneth had just returned from her bath. She felt a lot better yet couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. After a moment, Yunneth sighs and begins to get herself ready to sleep. It was already late and as much as she wanted to bask in the moonlight a little more, Yunneth sighs and begins to try to go to sleep. But...to no avail. She wasn't tired. For some reason she couldn't get herself to sleep. Soon she leaves her room and decides to make a bit of tea

The sun rose over the horizon bringing with it the red dawn. Butorega yawned as he awoke from underneath the tree. His clothing was covered with leaves, and blades of morning grass. As the brigand stood up he was met with the image of his sister picking the last of her vegetable from her garden.
"So you are finally up tree hugger", she spoke as she filled her basket.
"Don't start with me", spoke Butorega as he walked past her. He walked into his house and entered into his grandfather's old room. Inside he saw Aurek sleeping on the bed. "Fitting", spoke Butorega as he removed some of his grandfather old clothing from the door, and walked out the room. He made sure to leave the door open in case Aurek got up. Yashi was already in the house, and already cooking.
"Where are you going", she asked without looking up from the doe she was working on.
"To the tub", spoke Butorega as he opened the front door. He walked around the house till he reached a wooden door on the opposite end of the house.
He opened the door to an open room with a great tube mad of stone. Underneath the tub was a furnace where Butorega stoked a fire. He placed several logs into the furnace to make sure it burned for a while. It would take a while for the stone tub to heat up, but once it did the heat would stay for a while.
"Now comes the hard part", spoke Butorega as he picked up a pole that was connected to two buckets. He walked around the house, and made a tripp to the river. He filled both buckets with water, and carried them back to the house. He poured the water into the tub, and placed another log into the fire. This continued for four more trips before the tub was full.
"Finally", spoke Butorega as he undressed and stepped into the tub. The water was nice and warm from the fire. It had been to long since Butorega had a nice bath. Four years was too long for this kind of luxury. Rivers and streams were his only choice while he was with the Black Leahters. Butorega soaked in the tub for about an hour, and then placed on his new set of clothing. He threw the old ones into a separate bag, and carried it with him back around to the entrance of the house
"You are back", spoke Yashi as he walked through the door. By the time Butorega returned to the front she had already finish cooking, and from what he could tell the others were already up.
"Quite a spread", spoke Butorega as he sat down at the table. He could not help but notice she moved it from the wall. There were four chairs sitting around the table along with plates and mugs. In the center of the table was a wooden cutting board with a iron pan sitting in its center. The pan was filled with warm biscuits that still had steam coming off them. To the left was a bowl filled with eggs, and to the right was some mutton. There was wheel of cheese to the south, and dear jerky to the north. A picture of fresh squeeze juice rested next to the jerky and grape jam layer next to the eggs. A tall jug of milk sat next to the mutton. And to top it off there was some bacon.
Butorega streache his hand out to grab one of the biscuits in the center, but his hand was soon smacked by Yashi serving spoon, which was still hot. "Stop, no one touches the food till everyone is at the table."
"What", spoke Butorega with confusion as he rubbed his hand?
"You heard me", she spoke as she pulled over a pan filled with grits. "No one touches the food till everyone is seated at the table, and that includes Aurek."
"Tsch", great spoke Butorega as he rose from the feast. His mouth still watered from the anticipation. "Hay Yunneth Aurek", he shouted as he walked into the main room.

The world seemed to be spinning. Tumbling, rotating, revolving. Nothing was steady. And pain. There was pain as well. Aurek couldn't remember why everything was so disorientating. Oh yeah. The wine. He could still smell the alcohol on his breath. Or maybe it was lingering in the air. He couldn't remember what he had said or done, but there had definitely been a conversation with Yashi. Something Aurek would probably regret once he was fully sober. And remembered everything from the previous evening. He slid out of the bed of bed slowly, the cool floor helping him regain his senses. He shuffled forward until he felt the wall. Butorega yelled something about hurrying up. "Shaddup!" Aurek yelled back. The loud noise gave him a headache, forcing him to stand still until he felt better. Moving gingerly, he continued his slow shuffle out of the room.
Once clear of the room, the delicious smells of breakfast welcomed him. Yashi had made some amazing food again. Not that Aurek would admit it. He swiped the drool forming at the edges of his lips to hide his longing. "If you wanted me to move faster, you should help me, idiot. And I'm not going to accept your help now that you're so impatient. Aurek continued his slow shuffle toward the food against the wall until he felt a hand on shoulder. Roughly shrugging he said, "I don't need-"
"Just relax," a calm voice cut him off. It was Yashi. "I'll lead you to the food." She squeezed his arm tightly. "Remember what you promised me last night." Aurek couldn't remember a thing, and he was almost afraid to at that point. He wouldn't admit it though.
"Sure," was his only reply. After sitting down, Aurek inhaled deeply, letting the aromas of the different foods overwhelm him. It had been quite a while since he had a meal this good. Especially a free one. It brought back memories of home. Which Aurek immediately squashed. Yashi reminded him too much of his mother. He had to distract himself. "Yunneth, hurry up already. A blind, old man beat you to the table. Move it!" His voice was loud but not its usual gruffness. He chalked it up to the alcohol.

With all the commotion, Yunneth couldn't sleep. Yunneth was nocturnal in nature. She grew up in dark crypts when she was with the cult and was often brought to late night sacrifices and rituals. This made her operate more at night. But it seems this was the problem when it came to working with people who operated during the day. When Butorega yelled, Yunneth grumbled. But when Aurek yelled, Yunneth jumped up and rushes out. She glares at them all. She looked tired. Her hood was over her head which gave her a imposing look. She glares at all of them, almost looking like she was going to try and kill them.
"...Someone better be dying. What the hell do you want...?"
She was ignoring the food. She was wanting to know why they woke her up. But Yunneth looked like she could use a meal. She was very skinny. Almost unhealthily so. It seemed mastering the dark arts was more important to her than health. Then again she was never taught how to take care of herself. So it was no surprise. too skinny, lacking in sleep, it was a surprise she was still alive.

"What side of the bed did you wake up on", asked Butorega as he stared into Yunneth eyes. He could see the exhaustion in her eyes and could tell she was not at a hundred percent. The girl was already weak from her wounds earlier wounds and now she was sleeping late. Not a good sign.
"Looks like you", spoke Butorega in response to her comment. He reached his hand out and grabbed her right hand. From other peoples point of view it would seem like a gesture of kindness, but in truth it was Butorega insurance that he would not get his face melted off with dark magic. "Hay Yunneth you need to eat", spoke the burly man as he took a step back toward the table. "Come sit down and eat with everybody. Once you finish you can have your power nap."
"Yes", spoke Yashi in a vibrant cheerful tone. "Sit down and join us for breakfast." Butorega swiftly let go of her hand once he was convince that he was not going to get blasted. He turned and took his seat at the end of the table opposite of Aurek. Without warning he snatched a biscuit from the bowl and began to munch on it. His theft of the biscuit seemed to signal all the other that it was time to eat.
“Besides you can use the extra meat on your bones”, spoke Butorega as he munched away on his pilfered treasure.
“Butorega, you are suppose to wait till everyone is at the table”, complained Yashi as her brother ignored her and continued to eat.

Aurek's head hurt something fierce. Like someone was stabbing him repeatedly in the back of his head. The arguing didn't improve things. "If someone is dying, it better be me," he commented sullenly. Aurek held his head as he cursed under his breath. "Never drinking... ever. Again." Apparently, Butorega had started eating already. Feeling the heat radiating from the food, Aurek had no desire to stick his hand out and burn himself. So he waited. After a little bit, his stomach began to complain. "Hey, could use a little help here," he said.
"Oh, sorry," spoke Yashi. Aurek could hear her moving dishes and food around. He had no idea what any of it was though. Clenching his fist in frustration, he vowed to get better as soon as possible. He was sick of not being able to tell what was going on. Every day, the fact that he was missing his eyesight seemed to weigh more heavily on him.
Finally, Yashi finished her movement and seemed to settle down. With little introduction, Aurek tentatively grabbed a fork and began to eat. The food was delicious and the meal passed by relatively quietly, though there was some small talk generated. Once finished, Aurek tried to stand up but immediately became dizzy and had to sit down once more. After taking a few deep breaths, he was able to settle his mind. "It's time for us to go you two. Butorega, grab the sparring materials from last night. And get my armor too. I have no idea where it's at. Yunneth, I need to have a quick chat with you before we leave, got it? Grab what supplies you both think we'll need." Before Yashi could say anything, Aurek drove onward, dishing out orders with authority. "Yashi, get what food you think we'll need. And you and Butorega can decide what the closest large town is. I need one with a decent doctor." It was all very sudden but seemed right in Aurek's mind. "Thank you for your hospitality but we need to leave as soon as possible. There are things that must be done right now. We might visit later." The last part was a lie. Butorega was probably the only person who would return, but he would probably die in his quest of madness. Aurek didn't really feel like telling Yashi the practicality of the group's situation. "Move out," was all he could manage.

With only a few words from Aurek the house was in a flutter. Butorega was well ready to go despite the comforts of home. He knew if he stayed any longer he would probably never leave. It was for the best for him to leave now. Though the sudden flurry of orders was not completely appreciated, but Aurek was the voice of reason in the group. Butorega already knew he was a bit blood thirsty and Yunneth was too quiet. If anybody had to lead it would be Aurek. The ironic part of all this was the fact Aurek was blind.
“Right”, spoke Butorega as he rose from the table. He was quite fool and was now ready to travel. There was nothing like traveling on a full stomach. Most people preferred to sleep, but Butorega preferred to move. I guess it was a habit he picked up from his days with the Black Leathers. None the less the brigand had a job to do. He immediately walked into the front and grabbed the bag he stuffed the training gear into. He also made sure to pack his grandfather’s old Bern armor. It was something about that set of armor that made him want to keep it. He placed the bags near the door as his sister prepared some preserve food.
“He is a bit bossy”, spoke Yashi as she placed down the bag of preserved food fit for a group of four for a month.
“Well someone has to be”, spoke Butorega as moved the last of his bags. “Don’t you think that is a bit much?”
“Nope”, spoke the maiden as she began to walk back toward the kitchen. “After seeing the way you eat I think that is a little too less.”
“Pshaw, Vixen”, spoke Butorega under his breath as he walked into the kitchen. “The closest city is Little Rock”, spoke the Brigand to Aurek. “It is about an hour away. However we are going to have to travel to Dragons Peak, as the healer in Little Rock lacks experience and a sense of proportion.
“Hay”, spoke Yashi taking offense towards Butorega’s words. “Master Taya has practice medicine for fifty two years.”
“Yes, and has since lost her touch”, spoke Butorega. “She is ninety five years old and her one apprentice left to join the war effort. The old lady is not fit to check on Aurek eyes. She probably can’t see herself”, spoke Butorega finishing his argument. A since of guilt rose in Yashi stomach as she knew her brother was right.
“Dragons Peak is about five hours away from here. Four hours from Little Rock. If we leave now we should make it there a half hour past noon”, spoke Butorega.

Yunneth glared at Butorega when he mentioned her needing to eat more often. She was tempted but she had studies to preform. She simply ignored Butorega and pulled a book out of her satchel and began to read. She honestly doesn't remember the last time she ate something but she seemed to not care too much. Something that may bite her in the butt later. When Aurek began giving orders, Yunneth was only half way hearing him. She was tired. She wasn't used to working during the day. And her vision was half of was it usually is in the sun. If she knew more people, some would debate if she was just dedicated to her art or simply trying to kill herself. Yunneth looks at Aurek once he tells her they need to talk. She stares at him a moment more and sighs.
"...What ever you say..."
Yunneth was seeing it was time to go. She was already walking out and sat under a near by tree. Her cloak was wrapped around her. She looked a little miserable but...she would get over it.

Aurek turned to Butorega with a somewhat sour expression. "Five hours, huh? That's annoying. But we don't have a lot of options right now. Dragon's Peak it is." He grabbed a roll he had purposely left on his plate. "We'll leave as soon as I finish talking to Yunneth." Rising slowly, he began his slow shuffle toward the door. Yunneth was quiet but to Aurek, who had to rely mostly on hearing to figure out where things were, she was pretty simple to follow. The path was clear as he walked outside. He could feel her sitting nearby. It was like a deep void was sucking all the energy out of everything. Aurek laughed. The perfect person to fix a blind man. He had little confidence though, so the doctor was his best bet still.
Using the tree as a guide, he guided himself done to a sitting position next to Yunneth. "Hey, it's time we had our talk."
...
With that unpleasant experience successfully behind him, Aurek stood up and walked back toward the house. "Yashi," he called out, "help me get to my armor and lance." Being led was irksome but unavoidable. Yashi seemed none to pleased with Aurek's change in tone but he ignored her feelings. Slowly, he strapped the armor back on and picked up his shield.
"Remember your promise last night," said Yashi. Aurek felt the lance being pressed back into his hand. It felt better, more right, than ever before. Aurek simply nodded his head. He didn't know what promise she was talking about, but he knew exactly the promise he had made to himself. With a sense of purpose he had never had before, Aurek set forth. "Butorega, take us to Dragon's Peak."

“Here eat this”, spoke Butorega as he placed an apple in Yunneth’s hands. “I noticed you did not eat anything off the table. It is going to be a rough five hours”, spoke Butorega as he walked away from the tree. “You need to eat something. It is not healthy for you to go without meals.” Butorega chuckled a bit about his actions. Here he is a bandit, one of the most dangerous and malicious occupations in the world is talking about health. It was quite ironic.
“Right Chief”, spoke Butorega to Aurek in a sarcastic tone. He stopped for a moment and looked at his sister. “Don’t worry I will be back”, spoke the Brigand as he began to walk away.
“You better”, she shouted as the brigand and gang disappeared down the road. It was going to be a long five hours though Butorega, but in truth he was use to the road. The thing that bothered him though was the fact he was traveling with a blind man and a mage who seemed to have an eating disorder. “life is like a box of chocolates”, spoke Butorega as he lead the way.
To Butorega’s great surprise it was smooth sailing all the way. Though Butorega was forced to carry most of the supplies, but the burly Brigand was uses to carrying much more and for futher distances. Bandits tend to not have horses to carry thier spoils, and thus they are often resorted to using man power. About four hours into the trip things however turned for the worst. Butorega had noted that something was wrong. They were an hour away from Dragon’s Peak and there were no travelers. It was stange to the brigand. There should be poeple going to and frow from the city. At the very least there should be a pack man as they carried the wood for fires into the city. “Hay Aurek is it me, or does the road seem kind of empty.”

The going was quiet and smooth which suited Aurek just fine. Adapting to the blindness was moving along well though he was no expert. Walking had become fairly simple, though an open road definitely assisted. Quite a bit of time had passed before anyone really spoke and it just happened to be the bandit. With a question. A stupid question. "I don't travel these roads, boy. I don't know what's usual around here. So I'm going to assume that since this should be a fairly large city we are going to and we are taking a main road there, there should be at least some traffic. And since I haven't even heard one sound other than our group, I would say yes, it is eerily empty."
With that comment Aurek immediately stopped moving. Holding his breath, he listened intently. The first possibility was that bandit activity had increased greatly in the area. The only problem was that it was quiet. Too quiet. Even if bandits were around, that wouldn't chase animals away. Aurek harrumphed. "There is something seriously wrong. The people of Dragon's Peak can tell us more once we get there. Let's see if we can pick up the pace a little." It was all stated matter-of-factly. No concern or worry tinged his voice. It was almost like he was commenting on the weather or a bed. An observant eye would notice him tighten his grip on his lance and heft his shield slightly. There was something wrong, and Aurek just knew they would get involved somehow. He kept those thoughts to himself and pressed on, silent once more.

Something was most definitely wrong Butorega just knew it. The lack of travelers was mixed with an ominous wind. The sky itself seemed to be darker now. Normally one would chuck it up to the passing of the sun, but night fall was still some hours away. Butorega did not like the feeling. The hairs on the back of his neck were standing straight up, and a sense of foreboding doom ran through his body. Butorega was not exactly the superstitious sort, but he did believe in bad omens.
“Not long to arrival”, spoke Butorega as he turned to the rest of the group. The markers on the road confirmed his words, but the lack of travelers and merchants seemed to contradict him. Something was obviously wrong. “Best stay on guard”, spoke Butorega as they arrived at the gate to the town.
