“Retreat”, the order came to Euphemious great surprise. Apparently their reinforcements were not coming. This meant that the knights were going to catch the worst of it. Hey were quite useful when it came to holding their ground, but with retreats they were a nuisance.
“I will help guard the rear”, spoke the knight to his fellow soldiers. This was a task best left for a knight anyway. He and his fellows were already slower than the other unites. If they stopped it did not mean much anyway in the grand scheme of things.
An arrow soared threw the sky and slammed into Euphemious helmet. The thick steel deflected the blow, but left an annoying ring inside the helmet. More enemies rushed from the bushes and began to attack. However their blades proved in effective against the knights thick shields. Euphemious stabbed a man in the chest as he took a few steps back. The knights were beginning to give ground, but only gradually. Their defensive wall gave the other units time to retreat.

"Aaaw...But we can share...I don't mind being cramped..." she responded to Zach with another grin. She didn't even budge when some spears were pointed at her by some soldiers. This woman seemed to know well that they wouldn't stab her without asking first, not too fast at least. When Zach screamed in pain, she only shrugged as she thought, "Ooops...maybe behind him is not so safe."
"Deal! And don't you worry, I can't die. Nice to have my knight in shining armor. Although yours is actually very far from shining," she said with teasing tone, not intimidated even slightly by his threat. Asri didn't waste a second to get behind Aidan as soon as the commander gave his consent. She found herself a comportable place behind him, relieved that she had a meat shield. Maybe those arrows wouldn't get here now, they would have hard time cracking Aidan's perfect defense.
"Is it too late to switch side?" she grumbled to herself. Aidan and Zach wouldn't like it if they heard her, though. Seriously, this was getting worse. She wished her payment would be doubled. The thief stood next Zach without helping the strategist. His injury wasn't her problem and it didn't seem life-threatening anyway. Her only concern was to make sure she wouldn't be the next victim. "It's too bad. But if I were you I would abandon the wagons as well. Yes, it sucks. Those things could be useful or make good profit. I guess it's better to burn them rather leaving them got enemies. Just my opinion, handsome." The thief crossed her arms as she looked over the battlefield. Aidan's men seemed to follow his order nicely although some might be reluctant to retreat.

At the moment all Zach wanted to do was curl up in a ball and make the pain go away. This was far, far different than his childhood fantasies of playing the heroic rebel. He was oblivious to Asri, Daniel, and every other person on the battlefield as he ever so gingerly snapped the fletching off and slid the arrow out through the other side of his arm. It was sickening to see, and when the blood started dripping out the mage haphazardly ripped a piece of his shirt off and wrapped it around his arm as tightly as he could. It staunched the blood after keeping pressure on it (the last thing he wanted to do) for what could've been a minute, an hour, a year, time stood still. It was no proper bandage, but it would have to do until they were able to make it out of the mosh pit. He grabbed the enchanted tome with his good arm, and stood back up, passably ready to fight once again. He'd have to keep from putting too much pressure on his bad arm, both magically and physically or it could start bleeding again with renewed vigor. He looked back at Asri with more of a confused face rather than an irritated one. She didn't seem to have good listening skills for what he assumed could only be a spy, since Daniel had just given the order for retreat.
He would be more than happy to oblige the both of them; the adrenaline rush of magic had worn out with that arrow and left him feeling dog-tired. Master had always given him flak for overextending himself, he could finally see start to see why that was important. "Some spy you are."

The fighting was fierce, and whatever the spy had said had slipped the knight's ears because he was simply too preoccupied with the battle about them to worry about whatever petty thing she muttered to herself. However her suggestion she gave shortly afterwards was valid, and indeed something they should consider. Aidan flagged down one of the other soldiers fighting while they bided their time, and whispered something to him. The soldier nodded and went off to talk to some of the other soldiers. "Alright, we're going to create a distraction, then it's time to retreat. Knights will stay in back to protect our flank, we're going through the woods and we'll use the terrain to our advantage." His voice was low, unlike before were he belted out his orders with a loud voice of authority, meanwhile the soldier he spoke with was talking to other soldiers and the word spread throughout the field. It was a dangerous gambit, but it was a war and they were on the losing side of it. They needed to take chances. Aidan continued to fight with great vigor and courage, his strikes piercing past his foe's armor and their blows barely scraping his. Some days it was difficult, but now he felt so at home in this steel cage of his, he was far stronger now as a knight on the land then when he was a knight in the air. His spear pierced clean through a mercenary's breastplate, puncturing the steel and exiting out the back end leaving a deep puncture mark as the man slumped over, dead. Aidan kicked the corpse off of his weapon once more, an action that was somewhat common for him. His spear was powerful, but because of the way it was designed it got stuck distressingly often. Maybe if he didn't thrust it so hard, it wouldn't get so deeply imbedded in the flesh and it wouldn't be so hard to retrieve it. Maybe he should take up another weapon, a sword, or an axe perhaps? He's had a little bit of training with both... It wasn't the time for such a thought though, as shortly the soldier returned. "The men have been notified, all we're waiting for is your signal." Aidan nodded at the man wordlessly as he watched the the enemy that remained. It wasn't a large force, but it seemed to never end. Every time they killed one soldier, two more snuck out from the woodwork, reinforcements after reinforcements. They simply didn't have enough men to kill them quickly enough. They weren't that fierce however, they fought with a sort of... Aidan wanted to say they lacked fire, a powerful will. They had low morale for whatever reason, they fought half-heartedly. If it wasn't for their numbers this would be an easy victory. Instead they fended off the ambush with a bit of difficulty, and while they were far from being without casualties, it wasn't nearly even half of what they should have been if this was a well led force. Aidan stopped for a moment, as he held his spear high into the air. "Fire!" he barked as a few streams of red flew through the air, arrows wrapped in some kid of cloth and lit ablaze. The arrows were top heavy, and couldn't fire as far as a normal arrow, but they target wasn't that far away. The flaming arrows struck the convoy and set it ablaze. The flames started small, but quickly grew with the plentiful wood and steel to feed upon, growing into a blaze. With that the soldiers began their retreat into the woods, fending off the soldiers that followed with surprisingly little difficulty. They made they're way through the forested paths, and many of the soldiers had knowledge of the land as opposed to their pursuers. Honestly it was like they weren't even trying, it made Aidan feel uncomfortable. There was something very... off about this whole situation that made the knight feel strange. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, hopefully it was just nothing. =Thread Complete=
