It made sense. Less exciting and glamorous than he had imagined it being, maybe, but Jaden was absolutely right - they had to start from somewhere, and that meant just doing whatever work they could manage - that wasn't hurting good people - until they made enough of a name for themselves to actually do much else. Famous mercs could name their prices, pick and choose what jobs they wanted to take, and let people just come to them with job offers rather than going hunting themselves, but no one was gonna do any of that for a couple idiot kids.
Vergil didn't really know what trials and tribulations were ahead of them or how hard that road might actually be, but he didn't really care, either. If there was one thing he was good at, outside of being a wuss and fighting with Jaden and a lot of other things that were bad to be good at, it was buckling down, focusing on a clear set of steps, and doing them no matter how much effort it took or how long the process was or how much his mind or his body might want to quit along the way. That was just - him. The only way he could overcome his weakness was by focusing on a single thing at a time and doing it until it didn't matter if he was weak anymore. That was how he had managed to get decent at swordsmanship, how he had gotten into shape and stayed there despite how hard it had been at first, how he was coping with Aria being gone.
"...Yeah." He blinked, hefting the sword in his hand. It didn't seem as heavy as it had at first. Maybe he was just imagining things. "Same as... everything else Aria taught us, we just have to start from where we are now and keep moving forwards, no matter what happens, no matter how hard it seems. If we want to make names for ourselves, or be able to recruit more people, we need to be the... rock around which the guild can form?" The swordsman hesitated, trying to rearrange his words into a more sensible analogy, or simile, or whatever. "Like - we can't be weak or lazy or shirk our ideals, but stick to what is right and stick to working on the guild, be reliable and strong enough to protect them, and work our way up."
