Shugo watched as the horde of demon dogs descended on the mercenaries inside of the structure. Served them right thought Shugo as they began to fight off the dogs from hell. in shugo's mind it would be best to let them and the dogs duke it out. Then once all the fighting was done swoop in and kill the winner. However Ilheod had a different idea. He gave the signal and all the Nightwings went into motion. Like devils from the sky they descended to the earth picking off the snipers guarding the place. It was a sound stratagem, but it seemed full hardy to Shugo. Then again he never fought in war. All of his fights have been against brigands and sellswords. This group though they were like a small army. Better to kill them off and then deal with the demon wolves afterward.
Now wanting to be left out Shugo gave the signal for Luna to dive. The fearsome beast of a wyvern wanted in on the action as well. Rather than aim for the snipers, as all the other riders were, Shugo took aim for the leader of the demon dogs. The night wings could handle them. Shugo needed to weaken the greater threat among the two. In Shugo eyes demon dogs were far worse than the brigands. Brigands could be scared, bought, bribed, and bullied. The fearsome hounds from hell could not be. To Shugo they were the greater threat even if the Nightwings could not see it.
Luna gave off a fearsome roar as she swooped down and grabbed one of the wolves in her front talons. She held the beast till the duo reached terminal height and then released him from her claws. A single lonely howl lit up the night as a fearsome beast fell to its gruesome end.

"Well, then. Demonic dogs, huh. That's new. Let's steer clear of those."
As the Mauthe Doogs wreaked their havoc on the fort's inhabitants, Eren and Mika spiraled into a lazy dive. Most of the occupants were too busy fighting off the dogs to care that he had dropped in... And so he saw a nice opportunity. On one of the upper platforms, a Sage stood, casting the magic of ice at the dogs and in general causing problems for the fiends that were so kindly massacring the Wyvern-riding crew's opponents.
"Mika, babe, let's kill him dead!"
The wyvern swooped down, and in the blink of an eye, the offending Sage became dinner. As Eren leaped off to continue fighting on the raised platform, Mika retreated to the safety of the wall to finish munching. She'd come when he called.
Eren, for his part, charged towards another Sage. He knew how to handle Sages. Just get close and poke holes in them. They flopped like deflating wineskins when you hit them with some good metal.
But this sage had a different plan in mind - as Eren neared, a bolt of lightning shot down from the sky, hitting the stone near the Dragon Knight and sending him on his rear. A near miss... And it certainly woke him from his overconfident stupor.
As he rose, tomahawk in hand, he looked in anger out at the sage, who was waving his hands and shouting some junk about Thornton Wilder or Thoron Wilder or something. Made no sense, but when he pointed at Eren, the Dragon Knight had enough sense to leap to the side to avoid the blast of electricity.
"Right, so you're not going to go quietly..."

As the Nightwings raced through the sky, the first series of assaults favored them with grim efficiency. Almost each blow caught the scattered bow brandishing foes by complete surprise. What this did not finish...the hounds did. The rush that flew past, the churning in the stomach and weightless nature as "butterflies" danced within the torso thanks to the changes in height were a beautiful sensation of familiarity. His spear sank into the neck of an unprepared sniper, taking full advantage of the distraction that the hounds provided. Most of his other riders did not maintain such a blow; but wounded them enough that the swarming pack of demonic dogs were able to tear and rip at the exposed archers. However the work was not simply finished in one pass.
Now things became more dangerous as the heavily armed combatants became aware of their presence. As Ilheod ducked to steer Atraeus back into the sky, a tomahawk zipped inches over his head. The deadly weapon buzzed right past him, narrowly missing a fatal blow. He tilted his head as his eyes followed the spinning ax which returned in an arc to it's owner. A man toting a tower shield snapped it from the air, twirling it twice with his head following the Wyvern lord as he raced through the sky. Tugging at the reigns, Ilheod turned his wyvern toward the man and sped forwards as he grabbed at his lance. With a surge forwards, Astraeus dived down and straight for the man. He had a somewhat cocky grin resting upon his face as he slowly unsheathed the blade housed within the shield.
Ilheod knew that his lads could fend for themselves. Eren was no doubt an apt fighter, and he knew that Shugo's wyvern could likely protect him from the bigger threats. Over half the brigands were dead, and from what he saw a good portion of the zombified hounds were dead as well. Creatures that were like blindly throw themselves at their prey were not well equipped at surviving powerful magics or weapons.

As Luna came around for another loop a arrow flew by Shugo's head. One of the snipers had seen him flying and marked him as a target. Normally Shugo would probably have been dead or Luna's wings hit, but a demon hound had jumped onto the man and ripped him to shreds just before he fired. Its attack shifted his aim and allowed the boy wounder the opportunity to live. However that fact did not change the situation. The arrow spooked Luna and caused her to take evasive maneuvers. She lowered her self toward the ground to avoid being shot and once that happen one of the little devil hounds took a opportunity to attack.
Jumping off the top of the brigands hide out the demon dog hopped onto the back of Luna and bit onto her wing. Luan naturally sent her body into a barrel roll to throw the creature off, but at the moment Shugo was not strapped in as he moved to take out the beast himself. As Luna spent around both Shugo and the dog was tossed off her back. The beast slammed into the wall and Shugo hit the dirt. Lucky for him the angle caused him to roll rather than to simply hit flat on his back. Still it put the young rider in a very dangerous position.
"Ouch", spoke Shugo as he pulled himself off the ground. Luna was still in the sky as she had to yet realize that he had fallen off. "Luna", shouted Shugo, but his voice was suddenly cut off by the growling of a beast. He turned to see the same dog that was thrown into the nearby wall growling at him. It was not the first time Shugo had faced down such a beast, but it was never a easy kill. Shugo looked the monster in the eye as it rushed forward in a attempt to rip a piece out of him.
As the beast rushed forward Shugo stood his ground. He knew better than to try and run. As it charged Shugo stabbed forward with his spear causing the demon dog to jump backwards. It knew better than to implae itself onto the boy's pointed rod. Naturally the beast began to circle around Shugo. It was clearly trying to find a opening. Shugo however was much smarter than the beast. He knew if he put his back toward the square he would only be attacked from behind where he could not see. Instead Shugo took a few steps back and placed his back toward the wall. That way he did not have to worry about his rear flank.

"Gobbledy-gook! Tinky-Winky! Mika, Mika! Salami-Pastrami!"
The Dragon Knight's roaring likely made no sense to the Sage, who was chanting his own incantation, but the call caught the ear of Eren's wyvern. Mika rose and shot up in the sky, preparing to come aid her Rider. Meanwhile, Eren closed in, tomahawk in hand, and steeled himself as the Sage pointed.
He dove forward, rolling as he heard the crack of lightning magic behind him, and then arose, throwing the axe towards the man with an air of expert precision. The weapon sliced into the man's gut, whirling back to the Brigadier General as he charged, and then there was a loud crack. A burst of lightning, hastily prepared, shot into the charging man, and Eren was thrown back towards the edge of the platform as his body jerked once, twice, three times. Then he lay panting, his heart racing and his eyesight fuzzy as the electricity faded away. Undoubtedly his armor had amplified the effects of the spell. Damn, that hurt.
The Sage, bent double, still managed weakly to continue bellowing out some gibberish, but that was abruptly silenced when a large tail smashed into his head and sent him falling down below, where a demon dog quickly set to nibbling on his soft parts.
"Mika... Thanks, babe. You're a damn hero. Now just give me a second, and I'll be good to go..."
Eren grabbed a flask from a bag on Mika, pulling out the stopper and drinking a draught of strong drink. His nerves steeled, he rose cautiously, climbed on his mount, and surveyed the scene of battle.

The night air was heavy with the thick scent of death. Corpses lay strewn about the ruins. Bodies that were being torn at by demonic hounds, and even slain hounds that others ran to in an attempt to consume their fallen out of bestial instinct. With strong hands pulling at the silver spear, Ilheod swung it about over his head before bringing it back down to his left and into the side of the man's shield. The force caused him to stumble backwards somewhat. Astraeus let out a loud shriek before rushing forwards and Ilheod continued to force swift powerful blows into the shield to send the man back. With superior reach of the spear, he continued to force the man to tread backwards. Each blow inching him closer to the wall. However for a moment, Astraeus took into the skies as a group of four hounds rushed forwards to try and mob the wyvern and rider. Breaking off from combat also gave Ilheod a chance to rest his arm as the muscles throbbed in protest due to the ringing blows he'd had to send out. The jarring impact of hitting that shield was no jest.
However even as the shield and blade wielding mercenary struck down two of the hounds, Astraeus came racing back down towards him for the renewed conflict. The colossal Wyvern crushed one of the hounds, pinning it as Ilheod stared at the man, scowling even while he crushed his silver spear into the hound's head. A sickening shatter of skull eased its passing. He then lifted and swung his spear to clear it of the tissue dripping from the weapon before pointing it at the man who had equally finished killing the third hound. Astraeus rushed forwards once more as Ilheod swept his spear in an arc at his side and locked it to the man's blade. Straining the muscles in his right arm, Ilheod gripped the mid-shaft with his left and pressed with all of his might. The man was pushed to the wall roughly and slammed against it in a manner that caused him to drop his blade as the concussive force dazed him. Before he could recover the silver spear embedded its tip within his throat as Ilheod impaled the man.
He turned to see the progress they were making. The mercenaries had killed many of the hounds, but at great cost. Between the ambush and the constant battle, no one on wyvern-back had been harmed yet, thankfully.

The wolf and Shugo did a little dance for a while. The beast would move left and shugo would follow. It would move right and shugo would do the same. He was not going to give it a opportunity to run in and open his throat up with its fangs. Finally the dog had gotten tired of there game and rushed in. Naturally Shugo stuck his spear out to threaten the beast and the beast responded. Instead of hopping back the do jumped to the side. Its movement was fast enough to catch Shugo off guard for a moment. The boy pulled his spear back to try and align it, but the beast jumped forward quick enough to get past Shugo's defense. With powerful paws and the weight of its body the demon wolf pinned Shugo the ground. The beast reared back to take a chomp out of the lad when suddenly it was pulled off him. To Shugo great surprise, and relief Luna had returned. The massive White Wyvern had the dog in its jaws and tossed it aside with a turn of its head. The beast flew and slammed into the wall.
"Luna", spoke Shugo as he pulled himself off the ground and moved to get onto his mount. As he did so another wolf rushed up in a attempt to hit him from the side. Luna, ever vigalent, smashed down her tail slamming the beast into the ground and stopping its charge. She then turned her claws toward another wolf that rushed her. Her massive forearm slashed open its face.

The fight was going well for the attacking Riders, and Eren looked down to see Shugo holding his own like a trained professional against a demon dog. It was heartening to see such strong will and such a large heart in the boy. The Dragon Knight, his eyes gleaming, looked for his next opponent, finding in the fray a man who swung with practiced care a fine sword, long and sharp. Its blade was curved, a scimitar of sorts, and its hilt was covered with rubies and pearls.
"I challenge you, man of the sword!"
The lance-bearing Eren leaped from Mika, landing in front of the man with a Spear at the ready. His mount whirled up into the sky, looking for prey of her own, as Eren engaged the foe. The man's arm brought the blade rushing forward, and Eren parried it quickly, responding with a thrust that barely missed the man's intestines. But the foe was not so easily spooked; collecting himself, he charged once more with a thrust of his own, aimed at Eren's neck.
Ducking, Eren took defensive action by hurling himself in a tackle forward. Offense was the best defense against quick foes, after all. With a crunch, he flattened the hapless warrior and set to bashing him over the head with the end of his spear, cracking cranium and jaw before stomping on his face and standing up to survey the confusing carnage once more.
"Ilheod! What's going on here?"
This was quite the battle; Eren had no idea what they'd hurled themselves into.
