Oichi had left the city for a while. Master Haschel's lesson were good, but Oichi needed real combat experiences. Fighting training dummies and losing to the master only could take Oichi so far. During her stay at the local tavern she had heard rumors of bandits coming down from the mountains of Bern and flooding into Sacae. Their axes wreaked havoc across the plain. In response to this many sacaen swordsmen had gathered together to go rid the land of the vermin. Following the group Oichi traveled south close to the border. The ground had tracked the horde of rodents to a boarder town of Indga. Where they prepared to engage the bandits at dawn.
Every man and woman in the camp prepared for battle in their own way. A couple of them gathered around a small fire and began to share tales of their adventures and make boast about how many bandits they were going to kill. Others simply stared at the stars praying to the spirits that they would live to see the next day. A couple of them were tending to there swords in silence. Each one had their hopes and dreams placed on the edge of there blades.
Oichi was part of the latter group. This was going to be her first big battle. She had faced bandits and brigands before, but that was on horse back. She had never faced them while wielding a sword. The maiden was a bit nervous. The chance of death was high for her and the enemy was strong. All along there hunt she heard tales of how the bandits burned down villages and killed gaurdsmen. These were men and women who had fought with blades far longer than she had and yet they fell to these burly men's axes.
"Watch over me mother", spoke Oichi as she drew her Katana from its sheath. she called the blade Wutaka. It was her crown jewel. She had bought the sword not long ago in a village just outside of the bandits rage zone. According to the smith Wutaka was forged for a year straight and that the blade could cut through the thickest of armor. Oichi was not sure if his words were a boast or actually true, but she was going to put her life on this blade. She preyed that iwold see her through the coming dawn.
