Gar was uncomfortable, his typical attire was inappropriate for the conditions. It was too hot, too dry and too bright for the pirate, even while he was seated in the shade. I can see why people always hide their treasure here. It isn’t like anyone comes to the desert for a nice stroll. The pirate tapped his pocket to make sure the folded map was still present. Gar chuckled at himself.I once said I was done treasure hunting. I guess I can’t help myself when I find a mysterious map with secret messages. And on the bright side, I get to hang out with Aeos again. Good guy, skilled and relaxed. He and his friend Aeos had agreed on going on this expedition together back when they were in Vinland where Aeos had helped him solve the first riddle for the quest.
‘Ever flowing sands create everlasting changes.’ Gar wouldn’t have figured it out without Aeos’ knowledge of Nabata. The ever flowing sands referred to the desert, clearly, but the everlasting changes referred to a phenomena beyond Gar’s knowledge. Apparently, sand dunes can move with enough time in the wind and rarely took the same form. That’s why the two decided they would meet here, in a windy village, to continue the hunt.
“If it can even be called a village.” Gar turned his head to scan the dusty town. A couple shops, an inn and a couple houses were all that made up the village. There weren’t many placed for the pirate to search for his friend. He checked the inn, no dice. He checked a shop, still nothing. The pirate chuckled to himself again. I hope finding the treasure won’t be as difficult as finding Aeos. I’m sure he’ll show up. May as well get started with the second clue right? Gar took a seat in an open air shop. He withdrew his map of clues and riddles and ran his eyes over the words. He read them a couple more times and even said them out loud to help make sense of the riddle.
“ ‘The light is drowned daily. Go to the site of resurrection.’ A resurrection site? Is there a priest of something in this little town?” Gar sighed and lifted his head. He placed his hand over his eyes so he didn’t have to think about the sun. I should probably just wait for Aeos after all.

We are home! The desert man's inner voice seemed to shout in an ecstatic glee. While this particular village wasn't exactly his home. He was referring to the fact that Nabata was his home. He was always happy to be here no matter how bad everyone seemed to make it be. He loved the fact that he could belly side his way down the higher dunes. He loved the way the sunlight shone upon the ever shifting sands. But he also knew that there was treasure buried underneath the ever shifting sands. Treasure and ruins of a time long since past. And the thrill of discovering this treasure was what drew the traveling dragon back to the lands of his birth. Well that and the fact that he would be re-meeting his sailor friend. Aeos had already helped the young sailor figure out the first part of the riddle.
The dragon had arrived in the village a few hours ago. He had spent some his time browsing through the little trinkets that the shop had to offer. This village seemed to have some very intricately designed glassware that was uniquely it's own. The various curves and bends in the glass held his attention for a while. He was amused by how the small reflection of his face seemed to bend and curve along with the various bottles. He promised the shop keep that he would be back later to buy something.
The other half of his time was spent outside the village quietly reflecting and meditating upon the way of the world. His bond with his dragon stone had been improving as of late. At least he felt like it was improving. When he was certain he was alone, the dragon man casually, shifted his hand into a claw. He wiggled the 'fingers' of the claw a bit. The action felt more natural to him then it was a few months ago. And he saw that as a sign of improvement. He changed the clawed hand back to a normal human hand before returning to the village. Gar is waiting for me.
He returned to the village and saw Gar seated in the shade. The pirate was talking to himself. Repeating the same phrase. Oh.. this is probably the second riddle. Aeos approached the sailor and gave him a friendly smile an greeting.
"Hello Gar. How be you?" He waited a moment before giving the man his input on the riddle.
"No need for priests my good man. I think the answer to thy riddle be the sun. The grand orb in the sky rises fromth the eastern horizon to start the day. The sun ends the day falling to the western horizon."

Gar was remarkably relieved to see the tan man of the sands. He rose to meet his friend. “Ahoy Aeos. I’ve been well mate, a little hotter than I’m used to. But no real complaints.” After Gar spoke, Aeos gave his solution to this step of the hunt. As the answer was made clear Gar covered his face with his palm. Ugh how did I not think of that? It’s so obvious now that Aeos said it. Regardless, Gar removed his palm from his face to reveal a smile. “Hahar. Good thing you showed up. I could’ve been stuck here for weeks.”
Gar turned to browse the shop for a moment, clearly searching for something specific. He eventually found what he was looking for and brought it to the store-keep. The pirate gave the storekeeper the money required for the purchase and returned to Aeos with a wide brimmed hat in hand. Gar had a feeling they were going to have to do some walking and his bandanna wasn’t going to cut it. Gar removed the blue fabric from his head and replaced it with the hat. He stuffed the blue bandanna into the satchel on his back. “Alright. So we’re headed due east for who knows how long.” Gar was stocked with two canteens of water and enough jerky to last a couple days. Hopefully the hunt didn’t take that long, but Gar was prepared regardless.
“As for the next clue…” Gar read his map quickly and recited the clue aloud. “‘Time will dull all edges. Boulders will change their face.’ Doesn’t that sound kind of like erosion? I know that happens in the sea, but does that happen in the desert?” Gar waited for Aeos' input on the clue, then firmly gripped the straps of his backpack and looked to his fellow treasure hunter.
“Anyway, I guess were walking until we find some boulders or something with a face. You ready?”

Aeos smiled softly at Gar. He was glad he could help the sailor out with the riddle. So this means we need to head east ward.
"The desert has a way oft playing tricks on the mind. Tends to ruin thought and make puzzles difficult." He tried to assure his companion about the slight lapse in judgement. But he was right, if a man was caught unprepared the desert would fool his mind, make him see things that are not there. There have been stories of men who have chased mirages with the promise of water and riches until they died of dehydration.
"The hat looks nice on ye." Aeos commented as he tugged the hat lightly so it was snug onto Gar's head. The dragon man gave a soft sigh. From his bag he pulled out a beige colored long scarf.
"Hold on a moment." Aeos pulled his hair back, braided it then let the braid sit for a moment. The dragon man then began folding the scarf and then slowly arranging it onto his head until it was a simple turban. He looked more like the locals now. And then he promptly scratched the top of his head. He disliked wearing the turban but he knew how beneficial it was for desert travel. The desert man was also packed well with two canteens of water that were wrapped carefully and placed into his pack.
"I.. hath only just put it on and already I be itchy. I have no idea how my father puts up with this thing all day." He spoke with a bit of a frustrated tone.
"Yes. Erosion be a thing oft the desert. The winds shift the sands.. the sands hit the rock.. and over years.. centuries.. the rocks be buffed away.. and make more sand." He looked out towards the eastern direction. Looks like it's more desert. But there also be mountains in the distance. Once Gar was ready to go Aeos went ahead and followed him.

Aeos and Gar proceeded to leave the windy village and followed the clues into the sands of the Nabatan desert. The pirate was thankful for the breeze, even though it occasionally kicked sand up into his face. Gar nodded his thanks to Aeos' compliment about his hat. He then noted the way that Aeos adeptly braided his hair and tied his scarf into a headdress. It was certainly more complex than tying the knot in his bandanna. Clearly the man had done this before. Gar laughed at the fact that Aeos was already uncomfortable in his headgear. "We got a ways to go. You could think of the discomfort as mental fortitude training. You're into that kind of stuff right?"
Gar smiled and listened to Aeos' response to his inquiry. In his experience jokes and healthy conversation were the best way to pass the time on long journeys at sea. No reason why it should be any different on land. Of course, his mates would typically also sing sea shanties, but Gar wasn't cruel enough to subject Aeos' ears to his singing voice, at least not this early into their quest. Gar's curiosity was peaked earlier when Aeos spoke of his father. "How is your old man? Does he live out here in the desert?"
Gar's feet were slipping on the sand with each step. Apparently the pirate was more accustomed to walking on wet sand than the dry type. He realized he hadn't been lifting his knees high enough to climb the dunes efficiently. Gar paused for a moment and took a sip from his canteen to revitalize his body. He peered into the distance and attempted to make out some figures. "Damn. I left my spyglass on my last vessel and its hard to see with all this sand in the air. Those look like boulders to you?" Gar raised a hand and indicated in the direction he was speaking of.

“Simply, because I like training doth not make this any less itchy! But I shall endure it. Tis better to have an itchy head then a hot one.” Aeos shook his head slightly. I sound like father. He thought to himself only for the other part of him to chime in. Can we grow the beard and moustache too? For a moment the dragon pondered if he even was old enough to grow the needed facial hair. Aeos was only a few centuries old while his parents were well past their third millennia. And his father often joked that his beard and moustache combo took him several centuries to build. The young dragon found himself touching his chin and upper lip briefly to see if there was any stubble. But, all he could feel were the tiny grains of sand. He looked at the floor for a moment slightly disappointed in his lack of cool facial hair. Gar had asked for his father's age. Now this was a difficult question as he couldn't just say that they were literally thousands of years old. But if one were to look at them they'd look like they never gone “over the proverbial hill.” Dang it.. Why is being a dragon difficult.
"Father and Mother be well. You know what.. I don't really know how old father is. Or mother. I know father be older by about thir..sorry three years. You know not all oft Nabata be desert land like this. Our nomadic trails.. They be the land oft coastline and mountains. We follow it up, to the Etruian borders, all the way over to the Lycian one. Until we make a full circle. Then we start again.”He made hand motions to explain the migration route. He pointed up then made a path in the air it seemed to go into a the odd d like form in order to highlight the shape of the Nabatan coast line.
“Very rarely doth they make trips inland.. into desert like this. This time oft year they be heading north towards the Eturian borders to catch the seasonal migration oft northern salmon.” And now the dragon's mind was full of thoughts about salmon. Smoked salmon. Grilled salmon. Raw salmon. Salmon eggs. Salmon stew. His mouth was watering at the thoughts of salmon. Then he thought of his mother and how she would sing songs of old as she removed the scales off the fish or flayed it. He had a sudden urge to just fly back to them. He'd take Gar with him of course. Together they'd eat salmon until their guts burst. If only it were that simple. He looked a little sad at the thought. Sad that humans were not exactly tolerant of dragons. He'd love it if his parents got to meet at least one of his human friends.
“Perhaps.. one day you can meet them. We gather in Khan Yunis at least twice a year. I'm sure they be delighted to meet ye. How are your parents?” Aeos commented with a bit of a smile. He could almost see it now. Father would probably try to tell him a bad joke while Mother would probably comment on how adorable Gar looked while trying to pinch his cheeks. His thoughts were halted when Gar commented about needing a spy glass.
“Doth ye know the pinhole trick?” He asked before stepping up so he was alongside Gar.
“You put your fingers like this over the eye like this.” He made a circle using his thumb and forefinger while he kept the other three fingers up in the air. Then closed the circle so that it was small. He closed one eye and put the pinholed hand over his open one. This allowed one to see distant objects clearly but only up to a certain extent. Aeos did it and saw what looked like boulders.
“And it looks like those be boulders. Possibly old ruins. Worth checking out.”

“Hahar your folks sound a lot like mine. They’re busy growing old north of Badon. They don’t necessarily approve of my line of work.” Gar realized he may have said too much and quickly had to cover his tracks. “Because being a sailor is so dangerous and all.” Gar paused for a moment to read Aeos’ reaction to his subterfuge. He didn’t want to explain being a pirate just yet. Gar then continued to speak of his parents. “Anyway they used to be in a nomadic tribe as well, Sacaean. Moved out to sea once I was born to become merchants and did pretty well for themselves.” Gar thought about his parents and how they would feel about meeting Aeos sometime. They’d probably assume he was a pirate as well, but after they got to know him I’m sure they would treat him kindly.
Aeos spoke of the pinhole trick and demonstrated it. Gar attempted to replicate the trick and found it to be quite handy. The pirate smiled at it's success. “Well aren’t you full of useful knowledge. It ain’t no spyglass, but it can help.” Gar nodded when Aeos suggested checking out the site of interest. The pirate trudged through the sand with excitement. His eyes were fixated on the boulders and soon enough they became ruins. Ruins with symbols on them. Gar began to inspect each slab individually. Some were faded depictions of people fighting with what seemed to be spirits. The pirate couldn’t quite make out what most were trying to display. Either way, Gar eventually came upon a spherical ruin resembling a boulder. The boulder was lined with depictions of facial expressions. The ruins were faded, but could still be seen. Gar circled the rock and remarked on the expressions out loud.
“Happy. Angry. Sad. And shocked? or surprised? ‘Boulders will change their face’ probably referred to this ruin here.” Gar scratched his head. He was glad they had made progress, but realized there were now at least four options on how to proceed. “Well I would assume either the happy or surprised face were facing treasure. Hmm maybe not...” Gar removed his map from his pack and placed the map on the boulder. “ ‘To find your way cover the eyes.’ ” Gar made a motion to bring his hand to his face to cover his eyes but stopped halfway. He then turned his hand over and covered the eyes of the surprised face. Surely enough the nose was pointing in a specific direction. Gar strolled to the opposite side of the stone and covered the angry face’s eyes. The nose pointed in the same direction. “ Hmm looks like the angry and the surprised faces want us to head that way.” Gar spoke to Aeos.
The pirate turned to walk but stopped to think. He pinched his short beard with his thumb and forefinger to help stimulate thought. Wait a minute, if anger and surprise want us to go that way. What’s in between anger and surprise? Disappointment? And that’s the way that sadness faces. Gar turned back around. “Maybe I didn’t think this through enough. Got any ideas?”

“Aye. I know the troubles of the seafarers. Hazardous conditions. It not be an easy profession. But it be needed all the same.” Aeos was familiar with sea travel and life along the coast. As he had explained to Gar, their life revolved around travelling the coastlines of Nabata. He left his nomadic life on a boat. He traveled to Vinland on a boat. He worked in shipyards and ports in order to help sustain himself as he traveled.
Aeos blushed lightly at Gar’s complement. Then proceeded to follow Gar down the dunes and into the rocky area. Aeos was careful to keep an eye and ear out for snakes. As they tended to sneak into cracks and crevices of rocks to escape the heat of the day.
“Watch for snakes!” He called out to his companion. Before the sailor went off to try and figure out the riddle of the stones. Aeos followed him as Gar inspected the runes. Aeos couldn't make out the runes. They were simply too faded for him to decipher. But he knew it didn't look like the dragon language. It could have been from another civilization another culture. The desert was home to many kingdoms and legacies in its ancient past.
Aeos tilted his head as Gar tried to figure out the riddle. He understood the part about covering the eyes but couldn't figure out the riddle of expressions. Why would you want to go to someplace sad? He scratched his head through the turban. But as Gar was walking the dragon heard something. It sounded like something was giggling. Aeos looked around. Subconsciously, he channeled a small portion of his dragonstone’s power to heighten his senses. The changes to his appearance were minor. A slight change in his eyes and tips of his ears. He then heard little whispers. They were very faint and fleeting. He then sat down upon the rock and started to focus a bit. This place was tied to the spirits. Tied to the elements. Tied to the wind and thus tied to him... sort of.
He closed his eyes and focused. Focused on the sound of the little whispers. They were not like the voices he could hear whenever he read the fortune of the winds. These felt like they were muffled. They sounded like the voices of children, when they whisper to one another so their parents couldn't hear. He got up and followed the sounds. The opposite direction of where Gar was going. Until,he came upon another structure. It looked like the arch to an old door way half buried in sand. Buffeted by wind and sand for so long it looked like a smooth boulder. The closer he got the louder the intelligible whispers became.
“Hey! I found something!”

Gar sat down in the sand and racked his brain about the puzzle he currently faced. It didn’t make sense to move in a direction of sadness especially when there was an option of happiness. Well I guess we could go one direction and if we don’t find anything we could always turn around. I’m not in any hurry. As Gar sat a light wind kicked up, almost knocking his hat off his head. He had to place his hand of his hat to keep it from blowing away.
The pirate turned his head from the ruin that held the expressions. He noted that Aeos had left the spot where he was previously standing. Huh? Where’d he go? Gar scanned the area but couldn’t manage to find his friend. Luckily, Aeos spoke up before Gar had to start searching. “Hey! I found something!” The voice came from the direction of happiness. Gar laughed and began walking toward Aeos and the newfound structure. “I’ll be there in a moment.”
Gar eventually came up alongside Aeos and looked over the buried archway. It also seemed as if wind was pouring out of the archway. That’s strange. Gar moved over to the ruin and bent down to look inside. The path seemed to slope into the ground and there was a faint light coming from the end of the tunnel. “We might want to be careful. There are lights at the end of this path. Someone else may be here.” Regardless, Gar crouched down and began making his way down into the arch. That is until his foot slipped and the sand around him began to slide. The current of sand carried Gar down the slope and into a dimly lit room. The pirate landed on his backside with a thud.
“Ugh.” Gar rose and looked around the room. It glowed, like a priests staff when they were healing. It also howled at him as wind rushed in and out of vents above head level. It almost felt as if something was talking to him. Gar had a one way connection with spirits. They knew of him, but the pirate knew nothing of them, even though they were what allowed him to use his sacrifice skill. The floor was still covered with sand and the objects in the room were half buried.
Gar pulled out his map again and read the second to last clue. “ ’A breeze originates from within.’ I think we took care of that one.” The final clue remained to be deciphered. “ ‘A childlike spirit will reveal all.’ So what? I just have to act like a kid?” Gar thought back to his younger days and began making funny faces and even tried skipping lightly. He stopped and grunted. “I’m a grown man. How am I supposed to embody the spirit of a child?” A surprisingly large gust of wind blew into Gar’s face forcing him to close his eyes and tilt his head to resist it.

Aeos simply stared out into the buried tunnel. He could hear the voices, the whispers, grating, he shook his head. Gar made his way inside and Aeos followed him. The deeper they went the louder the voices became. He gritted his teeth. The noises were starting to get to him. He glanced over at Gar who seemed to be immune to the noises. Of course he would. Then they reached the end of tunnel and came upon a glowing room. Aeos was forced to cover his ears at this point. Gar tried to talk to it. To try and seem like he needed to act like a child to gain the favor of the spirit. It wasn't the person who needed to be a child. It was the spirit who was a child. Or children. Or perhaps it was just one spirit pulling a prank on them. Aeos wasn't sure. He was just very confused, frustrated, and in slight pain now. The voices of the spirit or spirits seemed to pick up on this and became louder. MAKE IT STOP! The other part of him screamed in his own head. But they didn’t stop. They just continued to talk, laugh, giggle, scream, all of it in a mix of languages he did and did not understand. He could feel his head pounding, his heart racing, and the power of his stone welling up inside of him. It felt like a warm heat in his chest trying to come up his throat and out his mouth. But he could feel it. Parts of his chest and neck we're starting to get just a little bit scaley fortunately it was all covered His palms we're now fully over his ears. He looked like he clearly looked like he was in distress.
“كافية” (Enough!) He shouted. And for a brief moment the whole room fell silent. The wards and runes that made the room glow started to dim.
“شكرا” (Thank you!) He took a moment to breathe deep. And relax. Gar probably had no idea what was going on. He would explain later but right now he just wanted to get this business over with.
“Ok. I’m ok. I’m sorry for shouting.” He carefully put his hands down. He continued talking but looked like he was talking to the room.
“But it is so hard to focus with everyone shouting all at once.” His usual accent seemed to be gone momentarily. The desert man took a seat on the floor.
“My friend and I are trying to find a treasure that was buried here long ago. Can.. you help us please? And.. one voice.. at a time.”

The wind in the room was picking up, swirling and becoming quite the annoyance to Gar. He turned to see how Aeos was dealing with the problem. Clearly, Aeos was suffering a large amount of discomfort. Gar actually felt bad for not noticing earlier especially because he was busy making a fool of himself a moment ago. “Ey mate you alri-?” Gar’s question was cut short by a shout from his friend. The shout was loud. It was probably louder than Gar had even heard Aeos speak. It seemed as if the Nabatan had spoken directly to the wind and what was even stranger to Gar was that the wind listened. Gar didn’t know the language Aeos spoke in, but the air currents did. They responded by settling down, allowing the wind to die down along with them.
Gar looked skeptically around the room. There had to be some sort of explanation. The pirate stood speechless for a few seconds. Did he just cause the wind to die down by shouting at it? Gar was confused but allowed Aeos to continue his apparently one sided conversation. Aeos took a seat, claiming it was difficult to focus with all the shouting. Gar shrugged and sat down as well. Perhaps Aeos needed some water, but Gar didn’t want to speak so he just indicated to his canteen, only to be ignored.
Aeos continued to speak to the room. The wind seemed to respond once again. This time Gar closed his eyes and strained to hear another participant in the conversation. After a few moments he heard a voice carried on the wind. It was faint but clearly the voice of a child. Gar was shocked and thoughts flew through his mind. The pirate managed to get a few words out. “Childlike… Spirit.” Gar quickly lost his clarity and the voice on the wind faded. Oh man I’m either losing it too or spirits are real and here in this room. I can't believe it, spirits are real! He looked over to Aeos who seemed to be more adept at speaking with spirits. The wind eventually seemed to agree to help by creating a small tornado to blow away sand in the middle of the room.
The wind dug out a hole in the sand, revealing a brown chest with a rusted lock. Gar couldn’t contain his excitement. “Hahahar! There it is! Aeos! We did it!” A slight breeze blew past Gar’s legs. Gar figured it was the wind wanting some credit as well. “Umm with some help of course...” Gar made his way over to the chest and bashed the lock a few times to break it open. “Well then would you like to have the honor?”

Aeos was relieved that all of the voices had stopped. And that now only one voice had stepped forward to talk. It seemed that whatever spirit it was was very young. Or at least he thought it to be young. For all he knew it could really be older than he is and it only sounds young. And was simply using all of the air vents, gusts, to throw its voice, to confuse, and panic the dragon. Aeos tilted his head softly for a moment. Aw. It sounds adorable. He smiled softly. The little bastard gave us a headache. The other part of him grumbled. He decided to ignore that and wait for the little spirit to do it’s thing. The spirit made a small tornado appear to blow away the sand and reveal a small chest.
“Thank you. Thank you for your help.” Aeos spoke as Gar went ahead and started to bash the lock. He was happy. Happy that his friend had found what he was looking for. Grab it for yourself! The other part of him begged. No! Dang it at least let's see what it is first.
“No Gar. By all means go ahead. I.. want to keep looking around.” Aeos looked around at the runes that littered the walls. He wondered what it all meant. And then he wondered how the spirit felt. They were probably the first people to be here in a long time. And this place was slowly being buried in more sand, in a few years, all of the gaps and vents in this place would be buried. The spirit would have no place to escape from. And that made him feel bad. Hmm.. I wonder if we can free it.

Gar shrugged at Aeos’ indifference to opening the chest. “Suit yourself.” The pirate squatted down and removed the rusted lock from the chest. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves before opening the treasure chest. Gar placed his hands on the sides of the chest and slowly cracked the lid open. With just a crack, the lid was blown open by a quick, forceful gust that also blew Gar’s hat off his head. Gar shook his head but couldn’t ignore the wind, not after he realized this was a wind spirit temple. Is there another spirit in here? I wish I had some way to know.
Gar’s thoughts were cut off by the distraction of what else was contained in the chest. Gold. Jewels. Figurines. “Haha This has got to be worth a fortune.” The pirate reached his hand into the chest to scoop up some of the coins, but realized the riches didn’t go as deep as the chest did. He moved some of the treasure aside to see a faintly glowing pattern on a slab of wood, concealing the rest of the chest's depth. Gar up ended the chest to dump the treasure out onto the sand. He looked at the glowing pattern once again, almost forgetting completely about the treasure. A glowing circle with crossing lines inside. “Hey Aeos. There is a light rune in this chest. Someone wanted to trap something in here.”
Gar took a moment to think about the implications. That means something is captured inside of this chest and if that's the case… Gar looked around at the walls of the room, then at the sand covering the floor. Gar furrowed his brow when he came to a dismal conclusion. “Maybe this whole room, is an ancient holding cell for the spirits. I think someone wanted to sell a spirit that they trapped in this chest or they were just treating it like a prized captive. Either way it’s not right, we have to find a way to break the seal.” Hopefully, it was old enough that Gar could overpower it physically, but before he acted he would wait to hear Aeos’ input on the matter.

The dragon watched as Gar went ahead and opened the chest. Inside, it was a spirit and some precious jewels. So there are multiple spirits here? Aeos commented to himself before the other part of him chimed in. Those tricky little.. Aeos held his head momentarily. He was starting to get a headache. Gar unloaded what remains of the chest out onto the sand. The dragon carefully examined some of the jewels. He knew humans bit into gold coins to check for authenticity and he wondered if the same thing applied for precious stones. He knew stories of ancient dragons who hoarded gold and jewels. And some even ate them like snacks. Curiosity, got the better of him, he blew the excess sand off. Then he popped a small gem into his mouth then promptly spat it out.
“The gold testing trick doth not work on gems.” He rubbed his cheek on the side where he bit. It was undamaged but still a bit sore. He shrugged and pocketed the one jewel before looking at the figurine. Oh look! It’s a tiny metal human! The curious dragon picked it up and held it in the light. He's so shiny! There was a childish grin on his face. The little metal man reminded him of Euphemious. Perhaps we should pay Bern a visit next time we go east. Yes! More apple pie!
“I'm gonna call him Oscar.” The dragon man spoke with some cheer in his voice. And is gonna be with us on an adventure! He had never had a chance to play with toys. Much less human toys.
“Gar. I humbly request to keep the gem I hath tried to foolishly eat. And Oscar.” He asked in a voice that sounded kinda childish. Then he put “Oscar” in his bag’s front pocket.
But, the childishness dropped once Gar made mention of the trapped spirits. Aeos nodded. The sailor had taken his thoughts almost right out of his head.
“You and I be thinking same. The spirits off wind be trapped here. Probably, some ancient humans trapped them here. I wish to free them as thanks for the treasure. Tis not right to have such a free spirit under lock and key.” He paused for a bit thinking.
“I have no idea how to go about it. I think.. it be best if I ask.” He rubbed his ears for a bit. Then slowly worked his fingers towards his temples.
“I hope they respond nicely. When the gale knocked ye on your rear. You could not hear it, but to me, they were practically screaming. Then laughing. Loudy. Twas… painful.” He took a deep breath in order to prepare himself. Then he closed his eyes and asked out loud.
“Wind spirits. We understand that you are trapped here. We wish to help free you from this place. Can.. you show us a way?”

Gar laughed aloud as Aeos began acting playfully with the treasure. Aeos asked if he could keep a jewel and a figurine. “Yeah go for it. Glad you made a new friend.” Gar then spoke to the figurine directly. “Hope ya like meditating.” Gar chuckled again and redirected his attention to analyzing the chest again. Aeos asked how the two could be able to release the spirits from this place where they were currently imprisoned. The wind responded without hesitation.
Two small tornados blew away some sand on the floor to reveal more faintly luminous runes. These seemed to be pictures depicting a process of sorts. A chest, a key and a lock. The lock had an odd keyhole however, as if it didn’t work with a typical key. Gar looked over the runes for a few moments. “We already opened the lock. I hope I didn’t mess anything up by bashing it.” The pirate felt a quick wash of regret at the possibility of ruining the spirit’s chance at freedom. The wind spirits may have noticed this because a breeze blew past Gar’s legs toward the far side of the room, where another small tornado was beginning to form. This one revealed a slab of metal with a rectangular hole in it, much like the rune that depicted the lock.
All at once Gar understood what the spirits were saying. “I think I get it. The chest is the key. If we put the chest in that metal slab over there, we can free the spirits… At least I think that’s what they’re trying to say.”
