Hello. I am new to this forum, but unfortunately I haven't really come here to rp. In fact, I've come here to look for inspiration for a homebrew D&D campaign I am attempting to make for my friends. The plot-ish thing I have in mind is inspired by Fire Emblem 7, so in order to make it work better for D&D mechanics (aka a small party of 3-6 people) I've come to the roleplay boards to see how things work here and see if I can get an idea of how I can make a plot inspired by Fire Emblem, a game with like 30 characters, work for a party of a fraction of that, since I imagine you guys don't all roleplay in BIG groups of like 20 people but instead in small groups of a few (though they do contribute to a larger setting and I see that there seem to be multiple groups). I'm looking to speak to admins and members for this purpose.
If you wanna know, I don't have much of an idea of what my plot will be yet, but I know that I will be running it in 5th edition, and the continent/world will be similar to Elibe. So far what I have in mind is something along the lines of, "dragons came before humans and the other races of D&D and existed for a thousand to a couple thousand years and had magic abilities and stuff and then other races came along and humans came along and the dragons and all of them didn't initially interact because the dragons were just like 'what is this crap' and didn't really care. But then the civilizations of the races began to blossom and empires formed and the metallic dragons became interested in them and decided to form relations with them, while the chromatic dragons were still like 'what even' and remained secluded from the other races. The other races did not initially have magic, except for some divine magic, but the metallic dragons decided to give magic to the other races. Then the other races learned about chromatic dragons and how chromatic dragons had magic that the metallic dragons didn't, and they, especially the humans, wanted it, so they went after the chromatic dragons to get it. This resulted in a war in which the Orbs of Dragonkind were forged and ended with the humans and other races wiping out massive amounts of the chromatic dragons (and some of the metallic dragons too since a lot of the metallic dragons were like 'holy crap the other races are trying to kill our brethren no don't do that'), but there were still dragons around, and the other races ended up stealing the other forms of magic, thus having access to all the magic available. The reason they didn't wipe out all the dragons but maybe a few friendly chromatic dragons was that they realized that after a certain point the more dragons they wiped out the weaker magic became, so they had to leave the dragons alive or they feared magic would disappear (not sure if that part makes much sense). Cut to present day, and an FE7-like situation is evolving in which an organization similar to the Black Fang (only very physical-based with little arcane and divine stuff), is trying to accumulate Orbs of Dragonkind, unbeknownst to the general population. They plan to use these orbs to control the dragons and kill the rest of them off so that magic will disappear from the world because... Reasons (haven't fleshed that part out yet). The party will discover this and ideally try to stop them."
Feel free to give suggestions and critiques about my plot too, if you want. I look forward to discussing this, if you will.
