Bandits, thought Scar as he heard the boy's story. He knew about bandits. They were the same in Vinland as they are on the mainland. The only difference was that the ones in Vinland are usually completely crazy or hungry. A feral was a vicious opponent indeed. However that was not the topic Scar was focusing on. The boy, had mention something that disturbed him. He spoke of his parents death, but he did not speak of satisfaction. Did that mean that the bandits that slew them were still out there. He began to wonder if the boy meant to go after them. At the moment though the boy was a boy and as a result he could not make any proper moves against them. He would need to become stronger.
"Thank you for the offer, but I am going to be blunt, I don't trust you enough to stay at your place", growled Scar as his body began to shimmer. His human form melted away as his body grew shorter. It then extended and grew thicker. Scar's crimson mane took its place back around his neck and his pitch black fur covered his entire body. His face expanded and twisted till it took the shape of a lion and his massive teeth reared there ugly heads. A low grumble came from Scar's throat as his transformation was complete. His crimson eyes stared into the night.
"Lions are built to hunt at night" whispered Scar to the boy. "Our eyes are designed to see in the dark. When our prey sleeps we move to take the kill. Remember that boy, you are probably going to need it if you wish to take revenge for the death of your parents. If you still wish to speak I will return here in the morning. come alone, if you bring others you will not find me or worse yet you will." With that Scar began to move into the darkness of the night. However almost as a after though Scar stopped and kicked out the now useless fire. "It was good to meet a human who is not foolish", grumbled the Lion. It was the closest one would get from Scar toward I am glad we meet. With that he ran off into the night. He needed to catch another elk for breakfast in the morning.

As Cardin returned to his home, he thought about everything Scar had told him, and everything he had told Scar. They had barely known each other for a few hours, yet he felt that they were already very close. He walked in the door, and set the meat down on the counter. He salted it, in order to keep it fresh the next time he used it. Maybe he would make it into Jerky. He took the meat and did just that. He seasoned it with some simple pepper and left it in a small box his master had used to store food.
As he went to sleep, he silently decided that he would most definitely be returning to Scar the next morning. Maybe he would bring along his bow to show to him. Scar might even give him some advice on stealth. Then again, for Taguel it probably came naturally.
The next morning, he grasped his bow and strapped a quiver to his belt. He walked down towards the tree, with fresh Jerky in his leather bag. He figured that right now Scar would probably be hunting, but he didn't mind waiting a few minutes to speak to him. As he walked, he failed to notice the wolf approaching him. The wolf leapt onto him, intent on killing him. He tried to fight back, swinging a dagger he carried for self defense, but failed to scratch the Wolf. He just had to hope that someone would come help him. He couldn't carry on for long.

Weak thought Scar to himself as he watched the wolf stalk the boy. Clearly the young man was not paying attention to anything. Then again he was human. Humans were weak, no, that was not a proper excuse. The humans of Vinland could easily sense this danger and countered the wolf. It was just this boy. Here he was calling himself a hunter, but he could not tell he was being hunted. Scar smelled the wolf a mile off. Even if you could not smell the beast you could still hear it. If you can't hear it then you should be able to see it. Sight was the human's greatest skill. They could easily see much farther than many beast. To make it worse this was a plain. It was not like there was much places to hide. The boy was simply weak and weakness was a sin. The boy had no right to complain if the wolf ripped him limb from limb and consumed his corpse.
"Weak humans", spoke Scar as he began to pick up speed. The Lion began to run forward at full speed toward the young boy. Even if he was still on Vinland Scar probably would have helped. Well as long as the attacker was something he could handle alone. He never liked the idea of a predator attacking the young. He himself always aimed for the strongest prey and the most robust of beast. Other creatures however liked to minimize there chances of injury and as a result they preyed on the weak. Scar could not blade them. They were the strong. It was there right, but it was also his right to chose to interfere when he desired.
"HORARHHHH!", Scar let off a fearsome roar that would shake the hearts of the most bravest of men. The wolf turned its attention away from the boy to access this new threat. Before it could move however a mighty paws slicked though the air and slammed into it's head. With a single blow Scar swatted the beast to the side and sent its corpse tumbling to the dirt. His mighty nine hundred pound war form stood over the boy like a guardian spirit.
"Your weak", spoke Scar almost as if to say hello.
As the Lion spoke a sudden sound came from the grassland. Three more wolves dashed out of the grass and began to make there way toward the lion. The Lion knew that wolves hunted in packs, but he fired the one attacking the boy was a loner. Most of the time they struck in groups. Maybe it was? Maybe it was in these wolves territory and they were coming to deal with it. Now however it seemed that he inherited the problem.
Scar swung his mighty paw again, but this time the wolf dodged. It jumped backwards avoiding the blow as it's friends circle around. One of them rushed forward from behind the lion and took a bite at his back leg. Its teeth cut into his flesh, but Scar's hide was tough. Colosseum was his evolution. He was far from a master, but his skin would not tear so easily like others. Giving a back kick Scar knocked the wolf back. The creature however was still alive. It was going to be a annoying fight.

Cardin couldn't believe his luck. Scar had noticed the wolf attacking him and had come to help. Scar swatted the wolf off Cardin, but seeing their commerade hurt, three more had stepped into the fight. As one of them lunged in toward Scar, Scar fought back valiently. The wolf was wounded, but it had not yet died. While Scar was busy with one wolf, another lunged toward him from behind! Cardin quickly rose to his feet and took his bow in hand, pulling an arrow from his quiver. He nocked the arrow and drew the string back, looking through the make-shift sight. He didnt care where it hit the Wolf, so long as it distracted him from Scar. He released the string and let the arrow fly. It soared through the air, striking the wolf in the side. It fell to the ground, whimpering. It stood, and the arrow broke. It could still fight, but it was still wounded. It ran toward Cardin, and he flung another arrow at the wolf, it hit the wolf in the eye, and it dropped dead. By the time he looked, the one Scar had wounded was already dead. The blood... BLOOD! Cardin's mind began to race, his adrenaline pumping. The last wolf knew it was outmatched, and it retreated.
Cardin's mind began to calm, and he began to speak to Scar. "Thanks for the help, Scar. I guess i just wasn't paying enough attention, huh?"

Mercy is a privilege of the strong. The weak do not hesitate to kill. When they face a opponent they understand that circumstances favor themselves in that moment and they know that if the role was reverse they themselves will be dead. As a result the weak never hesitate to finish of a threat. The strong however can give out mercy. The believe themselves above the actions of the weak. If they find themselves in a reverse situation they will still win because they are strong. Scar was strong, but at the same time he was weak. He did not believe in mercy as he himself has seen the results. His father knew of the results.
As the wolf fled for its life Scar gave chase. With a fearsome charge Scar knocked the beast over to its side. The wolf, realizing that fleeing was not a option moved to the attack. As Scar came to move in on the beast the wolf leaped forward a bit into the Lion's side. Its teeth pressed into the more softer parts of his flesh and drew blood. However Scar was warrior. The pain from the blow was nothing to him. The Lion quickly turned his body into a roll squashing the beast under his weight. The wolf's fangs could not hold on as it was forced to let go of his hide. As it attempted to recover Scar brought down his pawn and cracked open the side of it's face. The force of the impact broke the wolf's jaw and clawed off a good portion of its meat. The wolf began to run away, but its body went into a slump and fell to the earth only to never rise again.
Moving away from the battle Scar moved back toward the boy. The little fool had no idea of how close he was to being ripped to pieces. "Never let you guard down boy" roared the Lion as he turned back to his human form. A wound on his stomach still bleed, but the Lion was now in a position to handle it. Ripping a piece of cloth from his robe Scar tied up the wound. It was a mere flesh wound. He would recover.
"You nearly got yourself killed running out here like a idiot! If you were in Vinland I would have found your broken body hanging in a tree. The jaguars do not spare the weak. You need to learn to think before every move. One wrong mistake and it is all over."

Wow. Cardin couldn't believe how much of a fool he had been. If it hadn't been for Scar, he would've been killed. He should have payed more attention, he shouldn't have allowed himself to be attacked like that. But, he realized, even if he had noticed the wolf, there wouldn't have been any way to avoid it, especially not with it's companions. His bow was weak at a close distance, and his dagger couldn't do much damage... He needed someone to teach him, someone who knew their surroundings inside and out at all times. Only one person he knew had the power to do that... and they were standing next to him. He may be a Taguel, with his enhanced natural senses and sheer strength, but that didn't mean Cardin didn't have anything to learn from Scar. Stealth, awareness of his surroundings, these were areas he needed to improve in. They were also areas that Scar was a master in. Scar could train him, show him how he learned. If he was going to find the remainder of those bandits that killed his parents, he needed to be proficient in all areas of combat. He wouldn't get that just by walking around the plains, killing something every once-in-a-while! He also knew one thing he had found in Scar... a friend. "Scar..." he said, "I need to ask you something..." Cardin took a deep breath, knowing that Scar's answer to this next question could change both of their futures... "I'd like to travel with you. There is so much that you could teach me! I need to get stronger, so that I can one day defend myself, and not have to rely on anyone else! I may be young, but I could also teach you how to survive around humans. I have lived among them in many ways, and I could help you."

"No", spoke Scar bluntly denying the boys request. He did not have time to teach children how to breath. The boy was a mess and a human at that. He was weak and fragile. It would be like watching a newborn cub. Scar did not need the extra burden. He already had enough trouble trying to make himself stronger. How much harder would that be if he brought the boy along. The Lion began to weigh the negative factors of bringing the young archer along. However the burly lion soon began to think towards the pros. The boy was weak, but he was human. Humans could move around easier in human lands. Not only that, but the boy knew things that he did not know. He knew how money worked properly. He knew about places and things. He knew about human customs and organizations. He would prove to be valuable in navigating the new world.
"Hold on a second, I changed my mind. I will help you become strong. However you have to teach me about human society. I need to know about money, places, important people, and things like that. In exchange I will show you how to hunt as a human and how to move in the shadows. You won't be as good as me in my true form, but you can reach a level where you can survive in the jungles of homeland or how you people call it Vinland. However if you prove to be to much of a pain I will leave. This is not a formal agreement, but rather a party up, do you understand", roared Scar. The Lion was starting to think on this new arrangement. If the boy was going to become stronger he was going to need to push himself to his limits.

Cardin was kind of put down at the start of Scar's response. It was clear that he didn't want an extra burden. Cardin didn't want to be a burden on Scar either, so he would do his best to keep up and fend for himself while traveling. He just needed to become stronger. He would need to suppress his more... extreme side even more than he had before. Cardin most certainly could help teach him more about Human society. Over the past few months, Cardin had interacted with many more people outside of his family and Dex now that they were all gone.
"Well," said Cardin, "I'm gonna return to my cabin to grab some things that I'll need, and some medicine for our wounds." I'll meet you at the tree where we ate last night in about an hour."
Cardin began walking back to the Cabin. He couldn't believe that he was going to be traveling with Scar. He was becoming like Dex, in a way. Leaving his home when he was young, going to travel and train with a Taguel. He wondered if Dex's mentor had been as initially cold? Well it didn't matter. He saw a hidden warmth behind Scar's cold outside.
As Cardin entered the home and grabbed everything that he would need. He grabbed any food he had, a sword to practice with, as many arrows as he could carry, and the medicine for his wounds. He applied some to a cut on his leg, and one on his arm where the string of his bow had hit. He made his way back to the tree, making sure to be aware of his surroundings this time around.

At this moment Scar was sure of two things. One that this boy was going to be the death of him. There was something grim in the back of his mind about teaming up with a weak human. The second thing that came to his mind was that teaming up with this boy would be one of the wisest decisions he has ever made. Scar had made some bad decision in the past. He got into fights he probably should not have and burned some really good bridges. His current situation was the result of him going into a blood frenzy and taking vengeance. Now here he was teaming up with a human.
"That kid is going to get himself eaten", spoke Scar aloud. The Lion had a mind to follow him, but then thought on it a second time. If the boy could not handle a walk back home and back then there was no point in bringing him. Instead Scar simply sat under the tree and waited. His nose sniffed the air looking for danger and his ears were on full alert. His sensus were muffled thanks to his human form. His ears covered by his hood and his human nose was not as strong as his war form one. Still Scar could get a good idea of his surroundings and what lurked in the grassland.
Scar waited under the tree till he smelt the scent of the boy again. He then got up off his bottom and prepared to move out. The boy wanted to get strong. That meant they were going to need to go to places that challenged him. First off however Scar was probably going to have to teach the boy how to hide. Scar was not a pro at the skill. He knew other Cat-tribe members who could blend into the shadows, but Scar followed the path of the colossus. Still he knew how to stay out of sight and out of smell. He would pass a few of these tips onto the boy.

He spotted Scar under the tree, and strode up to him, his satchel with weight, but not too heavy.
"So where do you think we should head first?" Cardin asked, "I'll follow you, I can go wherever you need to go." It was funny. It was like Scar was another mentor. Luckily though, this one wouldn't simply die of old age. At least not any time soon. He also remembered the wound that Scar had received on his stomach. "Oh!" Cardin said, "Do you need medicine for your wound? I'm assuming human salves work for Taguel. Our biologies aren't that different when you are in your human form." He said this as if it were a completely normal thing. He chuckled to himself. He'd only met this taguel a few days ago, yet it felt like he had known him forever. He wondered if Taguel bonded quickly. He also wondered how old Scar was in the first place. He didn't look too much older than Cardin. But then again, according to Dex, Taguel aged at a much different pace than humans. They grew at a rapid pace when they were young, reaching what a human would consider adolescence when they were eight or nine years old, and aged much slower from then on. "I know this is a lot of questions all at once, but as we go would you like to see my bow up close? I'm assuming most Taguel fight in their war form rather than with human tools."

As the boy arrived Scar prepared his disguise. He was going to need it. He dawned his hood and insured that this time it was properly tighten. He then tied his scarf around his face to insure that his sharp teeth could not be seen. His tail was wrapped around his waist to prevent it from wiggling around herder his robe. His dark brown skin was covered in bandages and doubled up around the hand to hide the sharpness of his finger tips. Of course Scar wore his thick leather steel toe boots. The Lion was ready to move out.
As Cardin arrived he asked about there destination. Scar had yet to actually chose a spot to be honest. He had a idea, one that would be there next stop, but it was not set in stone. There were creatures there he recognized, but they were kind of wrong. It was hard to describe really. He had left the place in a hurry and did not know of its name, so he could not tell the boy where he was thinking about going. North also seemed like a good option, but Scar feared the snows he saw in the distance. His fur coat was not designed for such regions.
"We will go west", announced Scar. The Lion had heard the boy's words about the medicine, but Scar was temporary ignoring it. "To the west there is a land shrouded in both woodland and darkness. There are great beast there that would prove great training for you and a optimal chance for me to learn about the land. As for the medicine, you can keep it. Your going to need it", chuckled Scar. Scar trusted in his body and his immune system. It would not be long before the wounds would heal and even tougher flesh took its place. Scar was a Colosseum after all.
