"Ah crap", spoke Scar as he stared up at the not so far mountains. Scar had chosen west for there destination, but he desire to continue his hunting for food pushed the duo further south. Every day they moved a bit further to the west, but the deer kept them going much further south. Eventually Scar found himself near the Berneise mountains. They were still in Sacae, but the mountains were close enough that one could almost smell them. The deer in the area had also depleted. It looked like Scar was not the only one hunting them.
"Another one", spoke Scar as he bent down and looked at a carcass. His nose told him that the kill was fresh and the stains of blood told him that whatever did it had done so brutally. There were marks on the ground indicating that something big had been here. However the tracks did not add up. Looking at the foot prints it would seem as if the creature appeared out of nowhere and attacked the fleeing animal. It then ripped a chunk out of it and vanished once more. Drops of blood were spread out over the grass and there was a clear depression where something big had been.
"Griffin", spoke Scar aloud. All the signs pointed toward a aerial target. The only thing Scar knew that could fly and do this kind of carnage was one of the flying horrors. However that all changed once the predator realized that he was no longer in Vinland. The normal culprit could not be blamed.
"Hey Cardin, do you know of any flying monsters near the mountains", asked Scar as he got up from the corpse. At the moment he was not wearing his standard traveling gear. They were out in the wilds and as a result Scar was just hanging around. He wore a black thank top with a pair of baggy pants shorts that purposely opened up near the bottom. He was not wearing boots this time and instead his sharp toed feet fell flat into the earth. His crimson eyes viewed the land searching for clues as his wild dark hair waved in the wind. At the top of his head his ears poked out listening to any sign of danger. This was Scar in his casual dress just enjoying the day.

Although Cardin had just begun traveling with Scar, he had already learned much. Especially in the area of stealth. He had also gotten much better with his bow, but most of that had been his own doing. Scar could only teach him so much, and human tools were definitely not one of his strong suits. Although they had started traveling in a western direction, the need for food had pushed them further south than expected. A long mountain range was visible in the distance, not too far away. As they had traveled, they noticed the corpses of animals fallen and left on the ground. There were no tracks in the vicinity of these corpses, so an aerial attacker must have slain them. Cardin had never been this far south in Sacae; he didn't know what sort of creatures may lurk here. The only logical thing he could think of was that maybe a Pegasus and it's rider had hunted it down. He had seen Pegasai before in the villages near his home, and knew that some used them as mounts in combat. Although, a human wouldn't leave the corpse just lying about. Perhaps an avian Taguel? He had no idea.
"I have no idea, Scar," Cardin said bluntly, "I've never been this far south in the plains. Our best hope is that whatever it is has no intention to harm us, or that we just stay clear of it. Although, with your strength and my bow, we would probably be able to handle it."

It was needless to say that Scar did not like that answer. He was hoping that the boy could shine some light on there situation, but it seemed that he was out of luck. Scar liked to know what he was facing and what his opponent was capable of. In this situation they could be sitting ducks. If the enemy was attacking from above they would need some kind of cover. With the open nature of the plains Scar feared they could be picked off at any moment. The Lion was going to have to rely on his ears and luck for this one.
"Well I don't have a good feeling about this", spoke Scar as he got up from the corpse. "Lets start to move west. We still have some jerky left from the last few kills so I think we will call it a quits on the hunting. I don't want you wondering to far away. Whatever did this could easily return. If it catches either of us by surprise we are going to need each other's help. Speaking of helping", Scar suddenly stopped and looked at the young archer. "You do know how to deal with flying enemies right? You have a boy, but I am not sure that you have ever fought any enemies that fly. You know to aim for the wings right. If you cripple the enemies wings gravity would do the rest of the work for you. So if whatever did do this shows up make sure that you take out its wings."
As Scar finished speaking the Lion picked up on two distinct smells. His ears, which were sitting flat on his head suddenly shot up like a soaring hawk. "We will have company soon, not whatever did this", growled Scar as he pulled a piece of clothing of his bag and wrapped it around his head covering his ears. "Humans, three of them I I had to guess. They are about thirty minutes off or so." The Lion's tail then wrapped around his body making it look like some kind of exotic belt.

Scars ears flicked upwards as he told Cardin what he could smell. Cardin hadn't expected to run into other humans so quickly. He didn't know what to expect, however. They could be bandits for all he knew, or perhaps just travelers like he and Scar. Still, it didn't hurt to be wary.
Cardin himself had never had experience with fighting flying enemies, but Dex had told him of a skilled archer, who had been very helpful in dispatching enemy pegasi. Though initially they had not fought on the same side. Said archer had been working with a group of bandits, ransacking a nearby village. However, this was not of the Archer's own choice. After witnessing the archer's skill in a competition, the Bandits' leader threatened the man into working for them, otherwise he would kill his wife and daughters. After seeing Dex's skill with the blade, however, Dex was able to convince the archer to help him dispatch the bandits, as well as save his family. He had then devoted his bow to helping Dex with his next job. He actually remained by Dex's side much longer than intended, before finally returning to his home.
But now was no time to reminisce on tales told in the past. As Scar prepared his disguise, Cardin was able to hear footsteps not to far from them. He could not be sure if they were friendly, but if was always good to be wary. He hid behind a lone tree, hoping that they would not be hostile...

Resorting to mercenary work was one thing, but being abandoned in the middle of the plains was another. How dare they leave her like that? The sapphire-haired young woman kicked a loose rock in front of her foot as she trudged along. She was no ordinary mercenary! She was Isabel, a dark mage of the highest caliber and a prodigy... Or something like that. Her belief in those words had subsided since she began her adventure, but still... Just ditching someone in the middle of the night was rude. Isabel mumbled some curses under her breath directed at those merchants, and would have directed her anger at a companion if she had one.
Though perhaps "one who would listen" would be a better way of putting it. The black cat Solomon was as aloof as ever, walking a few feet in front of Isabel - the useless animal was the only companion she had who hadn't left her eventually, and for that she was grateful. But still, the animal wasn't exactly good at listening, and neither were the vast, empty plains of Sacae. At least gangly trees sometimes broke up the monotony of grass and-
"Hold up. Is that... Is that some kid with a bow?" Isabel stopped in her tracks. Maybe she was hallucinating. No, no, that takes longer to set in... It'd only been a few hours of boring walking. So maybe that actually was some kid, seemingly hiding behind a tree, laying in wait with his bow. For what purpose? Was he waiting for someone - or something? Or maybe he was one of those tribesmen of Sacae and he'd sooner loose an arrow at her than talk... Oh, but who cares? Her magic was far superior to any rudimentary weapon he could have.
"Hello there!" Isabel called out to the boy, waving a hand, hoping to attract his attention. "Hey! Sorry to bother you! I'm a traveler, and quite a bit lost - do you think you could help me out?"

Scar stopped for a moment and sniffed the air. There was another person heading there way. His nose was not as good as it was in his war form, but it could still pick up on strange smells. This one however smelled of magic and fur. Scar had smelled this type of creature before and the last time he did he got a scar across his hand from interacting with it. It was clearly a enemy, but at the moment it was not in view. Instead of focusing on the enemy at his back Scar kept his eyes towards the front. There were still a group of five humans moving in there direction. The smell told him that they were twenty minutes our or so.
"Come out of hiding boy", spoke Scar as he walked over to where Cardin was at. The new arrivals had already seen him and to be honest Scar did not think he could do much. The maiden made her way over asking about directions and placement. It was almost like the blind leading the blind. They all did not have a good idea of where they were at either. They knew they were south, but Scar could not read the map. He was so use to following his nose and instincts. He never learned to read maps and as a result he kid not keep track of there location. However if the information he remembered was correct then they would be close to the nation of Bern.
"Halt", shouted a voice as a crimson armored knight appeared over the horizon. Behind him was a small group of soldiers, no more than four. From the look of them Scar could guess that they were on some kind of hunt. The way they moved and acted also spoke of uncertanty. They were expecting a attack at any time.

Cardin froze with fear. Was the girl one of the people Scar had detected? No, he had said they were in a group. But the footsteps he had heard were definitely coming from her. After studying her for a moment, she appeared to be a mage of sorts. Following Scar's orders, he stepped out from behind the tree. It was likely that the girl's outburst had given them away to whomever else was around, so there was no point in continuing to hide.
The man in the crimson armor looked powerful. His armor was bulky, but not too heavy to move. He appeared to be a general of sorts, leading a small group of soldiers behind him.
"What is your business in these lands," the man asked, "You are very close to Bern, and we do not take lightly to bandits sneaking across our borders."
"Sir, we are no bandits," said Cardin, "My name is Cardin Redd, I was born in a small village further into Sacae. I am training with Scar, who is helping me become a better hunter. However, we do not yet know the woman. She appeared a few seconds before you did. It appears she is lost."
Cardin smiled. He hoped that these men would listen to reason. He had heard of Bern, but was not very familiar with the land's culture or history. He did not wish to fight. He was very curious to find out what this girl was doing, however. She had a unique air to her.

Oh, and suddenly there were just a bunch of people gathered here. What a coincidence! And these other people - well, aside from this rough-looking cat person - had an air of authority. Isabel quickly became aware of some dirt on her clothes, and quickly set to batting it off. Solomon had stopped at her feet, also quietly cleaning himself of some of the dirt that had accumulated on their trek so far.
"Indeed!" The dark mage walked forward, in order to make herself more visible, pulling up beside the kid calling himself Cardin. "I can't speak for these two, but I can assure you that I am no bandit - I am a mage-" technically not a lie "- by the name of Isabel! You say that we are near the border of Bern? Well, now that's a relief!" For a wanderer with no affiliations but some level of expectations, anywhere with civilization was better than Sacae at this point.
As she explained herself, she took a moment to look over what she was dealing with. A heavily-armored soldier standing with a few more lightly-armored soldiers - how dreadfully boring. The one in heavier armor, if only given the fact that he was the one to address, was likely that group's leader... And Cardin had perhaps accidentally introduced his rough-looking friend as well. Scar? What kind of name was Scar? Well, looking the whole group over, perhaps she should have stayed further away... If they all turned out to be hostile, taking out the archer kid first would be important. After that, so long as she kept her distance, the others wouldn't have been a problem...

"These humans smell", spoke Scar aloud. Off the back Scar did not like these people. They barged in and gave off orders as if they were in charge. Not only that, but they moved with a weight of impudent arrogance. Scar did not know much about the human lands, but he did know a bit about this Bern. The nation was suppose to be mountains if he remembered correctly. So why was Bern people here on the plains. That did not add up to him. There was no mountain and thus this was not Bern. These men should not be here. They were in someone else territory just like him and the others, but they spoke as if they owned the place. They spoke as if they were strong. Mere humans boasting when they know they are weak.
"What was that", spoke one of the soldiers.
"You stink", retorted Scar. "When was the last time you cleaned yourself human. You smell as if you had been rolling in the excrement of a wild pig and showering in urine."
The knight, who had been leading the group, looked at scar with almost disbelief. It was the first time that somebody had been so blatantly rude to him since he had been assigned the boarder watch. Most merchants and travelers tried to bribe him with either kinds words or goods. However this man, this Scar, if that was his real name, had done neither. As a matter of facts go he was quite suspicious.
"Who are you", spoke the guardsmen as he pointed his lance towards Scar. "You there, the dark skinned man with the bandanna and the strange belt. Who are you truly? I am willing to wager a thousand cows that Scar is not your real name and I doubt that the two of you are actually hunters. No, not with that attitude. Who are you truly and what is your purpose here at the boarder! Are you spies for Ilia or are you agents of Eturia? Answer me knave!"
As the knight began to make his demands Scar's eyes grew wide. For a moment it looked as if they were going to pop out of his head. What arrogance did this weak human have to make demands of him. He spoke to Scar as if he ruled, as if he was stronger. The very idea of it pissed Scar off to his core. His fearsome red eyes focused on the man as a bit of his beastly nature began to show in a low growl that erupted from his belly. Scar however still remained in his complete human form, but the look in his eyes spoke of murder.

"Scar..." Cardin said... "What are you doing? There is surely a way to solve this without fighting!" But now, Cardin wasn't so sure. He knew that Scar had issues with people acting superior to him, but he couldn't believe that Scar had insulted these obviously powerful people. One of the guards stepped up and tried to put him into a headlock, but ducked out of the way in time to avoid the man's hands. Another guard had begun fighting Scar alongside the general, while another drew his blade from it's scabbard and dashed toward the girl... Isabel, she had said?
Cardin sprinted out of the way, grasped a branch of the tree he had been hiding behind earlier, and hoisted himself up while the soldier recovered from his unsuccessful attempt to capture him. Cardin drew an arrow from his quiver, placing the end upon the string of his bow and knocking it. He drew back on the string, taking aim for the man's heart. A moment of hesitation, struck Cardin. He had never killed a man; he had rushed into action so fast, he had not realized what he was about to do. He was about to take the man's life. This man probably wasn't here of his own will. He probably had a wife, maybe even children! He couldn't bear to kill this man, so before he released, he jerked to the left, striking the man in the arm. The man dropped his sword, and yelled in pain. The man was out of the picture, he just hoped that he could convince the others not to kill the remaining warriors...

The rough-looking man led with insults. Great. When did she say she was a hunter? Wait, maybe he meant the- oh, this was a fight now. Of course it was a fight now. Why were men like this? Give them a weapon and tell them that their actions don't matter if they're strong enough, and the rush of testosterone and adrenaline did the rest. Isabel sighed as she started to turn away from this skirmish - and then noticed the man running at her with his sword drawn.
"Whoa, hold on, I'm not-" Isabel jumped backward, narrowly avoiding a heavy swing. "And you aren't listening. Of course you aren't listening." She quickly rummaged through her satchel, pulling the first time she touched out. "Fine! Have it your way!"
A circle of glowing ancient text and other mumbo-jumbo surrounded the mage's hand, pointed at the sword-wielding guard. Three larger versions of this same glowing circle appeared in the air surrounding him. A dark tendril stabbed out from each one, impaling the guard through the chest - and, as soon as they had appeared, they were gone, letting the man slump to the ground. Isabel blinked once, twice, and then looked down at the book in her hand. "Oh. Well, that might have been overkill... I mean, I definitely didn't mean to kill him. Dangit! Now I have blood on my hands again! Why can't things just be normal, for once!"

Scar's murderous glare had touched something inside of the men. Without missing a beat they rushed in and began to attack the group. The man with the sword sent for the shaman and the other guy went after the boy. Scar was left with the night who seemed to have taken the most offense. Rushing forward as fast as he could, which was slow to Scar, the man jabbed his spear forward attempting to pierce though the Tanguel's chest. Scar, being of the Colosseum line, had the ability to block weapons with his harden flesh alone. However Scar as a basic user. This ability only applied to his hands and feet. His chest was still vulnerable, but that all did not matter to Scar.
As the spear came rushing forward Scar stuck out his hand. Fro the knight it seemed like a easy win. His blade tip slammed into the center of Scar's palm. The force of the attack caused the feline warrior's arm to buckle a bit, but it held true. The spear's tip pressed against his flesh, small drops of blood was coming from the center of his palm, but it was clear that the attack was merely a scratch.
"What the", spoke the knight in horror as his favorite lance had failed him. Scar however took pleasure in the man's confused look. Closing his palm Scar grabbed the tip of the blade. His fingers pressing on the sharp edge of the forged steel. Taking a quick step up Scar slammed his elbow into the wooden shaft and broke the tip of the weapon off. Holding the blade in his hand Scar looked into the eyes of the terrified knight.
"Foolish humans, always playing with there toys", spoke Scar as he tossed the spear head to the side. The lion stared at the man. His crimson eyes shinned with the light of a predator. He could practically taste the man's fear. Tossing the spear head to the side Scar prepared to continue the fight.
"What the devil", spoke the Knight in a confused tone. He was so focus on Scar that he did not notice his other comrades fall. Drawing his short spear from his belt the man prepared to go again. "I don't know what kind of martial art you practice, but It won't stand a chance against my armor", he spoke as he rushed forward stabbing with his spear.

Cardin looked on with fear at the battlefield ahead of him, the only one still standing being the enemy commander, the knight. The girl had taken care of the swordsman who had charged after her; he now lied dead on the ground. She was apparently an extremely skilled mage. He had to be careful not to get on her bad side after this was over. The man whom he had shot in the arm was now fleeing for his life, seeing how brutal Scar was. Speaking of which, Scar was staring intensely at the enemy commander. Cardin looked back at the corpse of the man that Isabelle had taken down, he saw the blood and... blood?... "BLOOD!" He screamed. Caring not who noticed, Cardin took an arrow from his quiver and flung it at the knight. It flew straight and true... and bounced off his armor with a light 'ting' sound. He mentally scolded himself. He should've known the armor would deflect his arrow. All that he had accomplished was turning the man's attention to him. Luckily for him, he decided to ignore it. However, unluckily, the man had focused his attention back on Scar, and was lunging forward with his lance and aiming for his heart. Time almost seemed to slow down for Cardin. What would he do if Scar died now? Would he return home? Would he even be able to find the way back home? 'Wait' he thought 'what am I saying? Scar is a freaking TAGUEL! This man cannot defeat him!'

Isabel stepped forward, standing beside the young archer, striking what she hoped was a valiant pose, holding her book tight to her chest and stretching her arm out toward the armored man. "Yeah, but do you know what armor is useless againt?" The mage grinned, watching as another circle of strange runes lit up before her fingers. A larger circle opened up before the knight, and again, a spear of inky darkness flew forth, stabbing through the man's armor like a hot knife through butter. "Magic."
The man staggered as the magic dissipated, but he didn't fall yet. That was good - Isabel had already cemented herself as a capable caster in the eyes of the boy, and hopefully the cat guy as well, but she didn't want to wound the cat's ego by "stealing his kill". What nonsense; if he wanted to be able to dispatch countless foes quickly, he should have just been born with an innate talent for magic! Or, you know, learn later. One or the other, both were fine ways of going about it.
The blue-haired girl turned away from the knight and scar, patting Cardin on the arm. "Hey, I'm going to go sit over by that tree you were hiding behind. You should come get me when all that," she made a wide, sweeping gesture behind her, "is finished up. You two owe me; my considerable talents don't usually come free." Okay, great, now to just hope that they didn't remember that she had practically been begging them for assistance not five minutes ago. That would probably negatively impact her ability to impress upon them just how amazing she was.

Among the species of cats in the world there is a small tendency to play with there food. House cats in particular are known to push around trapped mice, not finishing them off, but not allowing them to escape either. This is what Scar was doing to the knight. The moment the fight became one on one it was already over. At any given moment Scar could transform into his true form and end the fight with a single swipe of his paw, or at least he thought he could. However he opted to remain in his human form and battle the man as a man. Why? Because he was strong and the man was weak. The man only thought himself his equal, but in all honesty the gap in power between them was like night and day.
As the man stabbed froward with his short spear Scar was caught off guard. The spear was much faster than he expected. The blade stabbed forward ready to piece though the Lion's chest. scar turned as fast as he could dodgin the blade, but the spear tip cut a line across his chest. Blood began to soak into Scar's chest as a crimson line made its mark.
"So you do bleed", spoke the knight as he quickly turned and attempted to slash the Lion with his spear. Scar jumped back dodging the attack. The expression on his face was now one of annoyance.
How in the world did I let this weakling cut me, thought Scar to himself. He was prepared to move forward and strike against the armored knight when suddenly magic erupted from the ground and struck him in the chest. The blow made the knight fall back and groan from the pain.
"Honorless vagabonds", he shouted as he groaned from the pain. Rage now dominated the Lion face as he watched his opponent back away holding his chest. The human mage had jumped in and aided him in battle. Him! As if Scar needed help dealing with this weakling.
In pure rage Scar let out a roar that was closer to his true form. The loud sound echoed across the landscape as Scar's crimson eyes turned back toward the shaman. "I don't need your help! I can handle my own prey!" As Scar screamed at the maiden the knight saw a opportunity. With all of his strength he tossed his short spear forward aiming to take the Lion form behind.
As Scar screamed at the maiden his ears suddenly shot up on the top of his head. They were still covered by his bandanna, but two point stuck out on his head. Quickly Scar turned around, just in time to dodge the incoming short spear. The blade sliced across his face leaving a red line just underneath his eye. "Worthless Scum", shouted Scar as he let his rage take over him! Scar's teeth began to change and shift as he prepared to go to his war form, however fate had a diffrent plan.
Almost on cue a loud screech could be heard in the air. With the speed of tempus and the ferocity of fire a great scaly beast descended from the heavens and slammed into Scar. Its body knocked the Tanguel back several feet and sent the leader of the duo flying though the air like a rag doll. Lucky for Scar he was already in the process of transforming. His body had entered into his War From and as a result the damage he took once he slammed into the ground was greatly weaken. Even still it was a lot of force for one person to take. If Scar had not been a colossus he probably would have died or been crippled from the event. Instead the lion was several feet away lying on the ground and groaning from the pain.
"Holy, S#$%$ it is the wild Wyvern", shouted the knight as he suddenly remembered the reason why him and his gang of soldiers were out here. The wyvern then rushed toward the hunter and the mage! It's wild gaze focused on the both of them.
