Name: Keoni
Class: Dragon
Dragon Element: Fire
Age: 670 (Appears in his mid-late 20's)
Born in: Western Isles
Appearance: As a human, Keoni appears as a dark-skinned man in his mid-to-late twenties. He is of an average build, somewhat toned in spots but nothing too out of the ordinary. He has pitch black hair that goes down to the tip of his back, unkempt and flowing with the wind. Keoni's eyes are of a bright shade of silver, matching with his fair and youthful face. He wears little more than the bandannas and robes of a traveler, the same clothing style that his mother and her companions traveled with. Keoni also carries a traveling stick with him, which helps with keeping with the illusion of an ordinary human.
As for his draconic appearance (standing at about 15 meters), Keoni takes on the form of a pitch-black demon from the fiery pits. His hide is of a darkened shade, like a hulking shadow within the flames he unleashes. The color of his eyes burn with a firey light, and his entire body grows in muscle and strength. The beast has distinctive horns at the sides of his head that curl up at the ends, appearing like a leather-winged devil. Keoni's teeth and claws are blackened into obsidian, becoming as sharp as the blade of a sword. Keoni truly becomes a monster in this form, quite eerily resembling his own father.
Personality: Keoni is, by all accounts, a fighter by necessity. He never says too much, but his compassion and intelligence more than speaks for itself. Those who are close to Keoni know him as a fiercely loyal companion with an obvious love for all life, even if he is a little odd at times. He often gets curious about new discoveries he finds every day, taking in whatever comes in stride. There is also his fascination with creative arts, often sketching away or reading whenever he has free time. Keoni is extremely protective of his friends, often to the point where he will likely lash out if anyone messes with them.
Despite this, Keoni is actually a bit more careful than you’d think. In times of need, he will happily offer a hand for others, though he can just as easily take it away if pushed too far. He can also get in over his own head at times, and he could care less about his own safety when defending others. Keoni also has the constant fear of his draconic side being discovered, never sharing too much about himself or the journey he is taking. Still, he refuses to give up on being social, even if it does lead to some awkward moments.
The wanderer holds a deep dedication towards maintaining his humanity, hating and fearing his own dragonhood. Keoni will often feel more comfortable around humans than he would be around his own kind. It's not that having relationships with other dragons is impossible, but it will take more effort for Keoni to open up. He only uses his draconic abilities as an absolute last resort, and even even, he could lose himself to his beastly side. It is for this reason (among others) that Keoni takes painstaking measures to suppress his dragon self.
Keoni holds a particular attachment to animals, having dedicated his life to nature and all it brings. He tends to lighten up pretty easily around them, especially if they're strays. He tries to be careful around the more fearful creatures, maintaining a gentle hand and a clear smile. With this in mind, he tends to open up easily around those who take care of their animal allies. Naturally, any harm inflicted on any creatures can also lead to the rare sight of an angry Keoni.
History: The man who would be known as Keoni wouldn't know too much of what happened before he was born, but the nature of his upbringing was a rocky one. Centuries ago, Keoni's mother (named Arvia) was among a small tribe of dragons and manaketes sent into hiding sine the Scouring. His mother had always been a carefree spirit among her tribe, enjoying the open sea as well as the air that was given to them. All they had was a small ship to their name, travelling across the Western Isles. With each new day, Arvia made an effort to meet new people. The band was content with becoming wanderers forever, but one day would come to shake their lives...and Arvia's.
One day, while travelling to gain supplies, Arvia was approached by a man named Lubin. He and several other men were making their living on this particular land, though they did not elaborate further on how they got here. After enough curious prodding from Arvia, the men came to reveal themselves as fellow dragons. Overjoyed by the discovery of new brothers and sisters, Arvia invited them over to her own group to travel with.
What Arvia didnt realize, however, was that these men were exiles from Arcadia, driven away for their countless acts of murder and pillaging. Unfortunately for Arvia and the people she called her family, Lubin and his men had their eyes set on them to enact their vengeance. That night, the rogue dragons made quick work of the sleeping nomads, laying waste to everything in their path. Arvia herself tried to stop them, but Lubin came to knock her out and drag her away. Arvia was forced to watch as the family she came to know was senselessly torn apart.
By the next morning, Arvia was left alone. She was crippled, bloodied...and left with a child growing in her.
For days, she wandered through the isles, searching for some form of help. Luckily for her, help did came in the form of a human islander. The man took pity upon the creature, knowing that she would be hunted by his fellow humans if she were to be discovered. The man's name was Noa, and he helped to lead Arvia to an abandoned cave where she could recover from the horrific ordeal. It sickened Arvia, knowing where her pregnancy came from, but she still couldn't find it in her to reject her own child. Noa would come to visit Arvia every day, helping to care for her until the eventual birth of her baby boy.
Arvia came to accept Noa as the child's fellow caretaker, giving him the opportunity to name the boy. After some time, Noa came to name to boy after his own grandfather; Keoni. Given the long lifespan of a dragon, Arvia knew that she and Keoni would outlive the islander. Still, the three came to grow over the years as a family in secrecy. Time and again, Noa would have to hide the cave's location from his fellow humans, hoping that none would ever stumble upon it.
Keoni's upbringing was as normal as it could be, with his adoptive father helping to teach him about the world. However, as the years went on, it became clear that Arvia was left with some deep mental scars. She would make his dragonic heritage abundantly clear, and she would make him fear and hate it. She would rave about the fearsome dragons and their terrifying might, how they could destroy and take as they please. Noa would try and step in from time to time, but the difference in power made it clear that he had little power in stopping Arvia's growing madness and paranoia. Keoni took it all in, coming to fear the outside world along with his mother.
Time would eventually claim Noa's life, leaving Keoni with no other parental figures outside of his mother. The isolation was beginning to take its toll on Arvia, becoming a recluse in the years since she arrived on the island. The mere sight of Keoni would sometimes trigger awful memories, with Keoni resembling his birth father more and more. She would eventually teach Keoni of the Dragonstones and of taking on a human form, making him vow to remain as a human. Keoni came to agree, feeling shame for having such a monstrous appearance.
Keoni would begin to travel on his own, gathering food and supplies for himself and his mother. Along the way, he could come to meet humans who greeted him like any other, helping him to come out of his shell. As the centuries passed, he would come to embrace the world and all that it offered, even as he still held reservations against his own blood. One day, however, he would come to find his mother missing while arriving home. Keoni searched for days, until he eventually founded her body in a secluded part of the island. It wasn't by the hand of human nor dragon, but by her own mind finally saying "enough".
Arvia was dead.
Keoni made sure to bury her so that no human would come across her, fighting back tears along the way. With no one left to hold onto, the man would would reject his dragonhood began to travel across Elibe, searching for answers and meaning in a senseless world. He knew that he would have to find and confront his father eventually, and so, Keoni began to train himself in secret for that fateful day. Deep down, he would like to use his monstrous power for good, but he knew well that this world would never accept it. As far as the world knew, he was only human.
NPC fight: A readied blade was raised right between Keoni's eyes, the knight preparing to strike. The wanderer was backed into a corner, left with nowhere else to go. The poor man cursed himself for being to careless as to put himself in such a position, but this was where he was now. Still, as much as he hated doing so, he wasn't going to go out without a fight. Keoni quickly ducked down and delivered a strong enough kick to the knight's stomach, grunting from the force as he looked up to see the man fall. Keoni looked onto the knight writhing in pain, a sigh escaping him as he moved to flee for his life.
PC fight: Keoni, raising his hands in a calm manner, tried to diffuse the situation before him. Before he could even speak, however, his apparent opponent readied her lance at him, preparing to strike at him. The wanderer had no idea how that bandit managed to secure such a weapon, let alone train with it. Nonetheless, the thief seemed to be in for the kill. Instinctively, Keoni moved to sidestep away from the initial thrust of the blade, countering it with an attempt to elbow the bandit in the gut. With enough luck, he hoped to end things quickly with a few more strikes and little bloodshed.
