Nergui grunted in disappointment. How could he call himself a mighty hero of the Moto in this situation, being ouwitted by a couple of common grunts? No, he would not stand for this.
This time, as the swordsman charged forward, Nergui chose to dismount Takhi, facing, the axeman head-on. Taking the bandit by surprise, Nergui managed to lock weapons with him. Nergui and the bandit struggled in a test of strength, to which the Sacaen rider soon figured out that he could not win. So he would use finesse.
While both were still locked in a struggle, Nergui quickly kicked the bandit's groin, forcing the man to double over in pain and drop his weapon. Before the spearman could aid his compatriot, Nergui finished the man off, slicing the man's throat with his scimitar.
Now Nergui was faced with an angry bandit with a lance. He charged forward, intending to finish this fight quickly, but as lance and sword clashed, the Sacaen quickly found himself outmatched. The lance outranged his sword by quite a bit, and no matter how Nergui advanced, he could not get in the range to even graze the man with his weapon.
Nergui had a lance as well, but he could not retrieve it without exposing his back to the remaining bandit. Takhi was easily spooked by lances, and could not approach the man without leaving herself at risk to the thrusting weapon. Soon the bandit caught on to Nergui's weakness, and he quickly put the Sacaen on the defensive with a barrage of thrusts, which Nergui could only just slap out of the way. When Takhi approached to aid her rider, the bandit would turn and scare her away with a point of his lance.
Stuck in battle, Nergui had no way to defeat this bandit on his own.

Moreau had been resting at a quaint inn in a small village in the Sacaen countryside for several days, serving as a pleasant respite from his journey. He had been helping various townsfolk with their day to day tasks and socializing to learn more about the area, and was enjoying his time in the village.
Despite having wandered the continent for three years now, he would have his first experience with real combat one day in this village, when he woke up to screams outside his room. Frightened, he slowly got up and approached the window, and upon looking out saw a band of brigands storming through the town, and he witnessed them cut a woman down as she attempted to flee.
He quickly sunk back down, thinking about what the best course of action would be. He knew he had to help somehow, since he had come to know some of these people, and couldn't escape even if he'd wanted to. Running out of his room he gathered the people in the inn, which had not yet been ransacked. They began piling up barricades next to the doors, ready to be pushed into place once the building came under siege, but in the meantime tried to take in as many townspeople from outside as they could. Looking outside, Moreau saw a horseman and armored lance wielder fighting against the brigands, as well as a younger boy seeming to try to save people in their houses, but decided he was in no place to draw attention to the haven he was trying to build up, which by now had ten or eleven people hiding within. Piles of chairs, tables, and other miscellaneous grew in front of the doors, but they were not blocked off just yet.
Looking out the window once more Moreau saw that the horseman was getting tied up in a fight with two of the ruffians. He watched as eventually the cavalier was able to dispatch the first of them, but knew that the second was posing a real threat, and the horseman couldn't get in close enough with his sword to have a chance at doing any damage. Moreau ran back to his room and grabbed the light tome he left by his bed, and went back to the window. Neither the horseman nor the brute had seen Moreau or any of the people in the inn yet, so he took a moment to concentrate on the enemy spearman, who was currently facing away from him, fending off the cavalier. With a deep breath, Moreau launched a beam of light that struck the brigand square in the back, causing him to drop his lance and stumble forward.

I glance over at Nergui as the bandit cornered him. I had to help somehow! As I rushed forward, drawing my bow, however, a blast of light shot through the air, striking the bandit. I look in the direction from which it came and see an older gentleman with a tome in hand. I give the man a thumbs-up in thanks and then return my attention to the bandit, who was recovering from the blast. If I was looking for an opportunity to help, this would most certainly be it. I decided this would be the best opportunity to try out my new bow, and took it off my back. I drew an arrow from my quiver, pressing the end to the string in order to nock it. I slid the arrow into the correct position, and pulled back on the string, applying pressure as I took aim. I released the tension from my fingers and the arrow went flying. It hit the bandit in the leg and he let out a shout of pain. The recoil from the bow knocked me onto the ground; I was not used to having such a powerful bow. I dive into cover, in case any of the other bandits had seen me fire the arrow, and make my way over to the man who had saved Nergui.
"Thank you," I say. "What's your name? Did you live here?" I ask, readying my bow in case any more bandits decided to come our way.

Moreau held his breath as the bandit was struck by his light spell. He hadn't done as much damage as he had hoped for and wasn't sure if the cavalier would be prepared to seize on the opportunity fast enough. Fortunately it wasn't necessary, as after a brief moment an arrow plunged into the brigand's leg, sending him to the ground. Several other townsfolk looking out from the inn cheered as they saw the brute fall, and Moreau let out a sigh of relief easing the vice-like grip he had unconsciously applied to his tome. Even though he had only launched a beam of light at his foe from a clearly safe distance, it was a nerve wracking experience, as he had never experienced combat before.
Looking out from the window Moreau saw the young archer he had seen earlier coming towards him, with a new bow in hand. Still being observant for possible attacks, the archer inquired about Moreau. "My name is Moreau." He replied. "Your friend over there is lucky you were ready with that bow." He said with a smile. "I don't live here, no, but perhaps we can talk more once we've ensured that the fighting is over. Erm, excuse me for a moment my boy."
Moreau quickly went to the room where he had slept and grabbed his wooden walking staff, and then went outside to where the archer was standing after telling the townsfolk to stay put for now. "I'll do what I can to help defend the town if there are any more of these brutes, but I'm not much of a fighter." Moreau said. "Er, I have a basic understanding of light magic." He said, holding up the tome in his hand, as he was unsure if such things were practiced outside of the monastery he grew up in. "And what do they call you my friend?"

I regarded the older fellow with a smile. I'd always had a soft spot for those whom were older and more experienced than me. They always gave me an opportunity to learn.
"My name is Cardin." I reply. "I can escort you to safer place, if you wish. I'll do what I can to get these villagers out as well. I just hope Nergui can handle himself for the rest of this battle..." I said. I didn't want to lose my new horse-riding companion after we'd only just met. There was so much I knew I could learn from him! As I await his response I decide to help Nergui take down a few of the bandits, if I can. I begin shooting in the direction of a horde of bandits, and I found it noticeably easier to get shots off quickly with my new bow. It must be built for rapid-fire, I decided. A few of the bandits noticed, but they were cut down by a new, mysterious group who had just appeared. It seemed that a group of mercenaries was joining the fray as well. I celebrated internally. With them here, this battle would be won before we knew it! I continue to assist, the majority of my shots missing, but a few hit their mark. I was glad to see that I was improving at least a little. The mercenary captain looks back toward us and smirks. Little did we know the true goals they had in mind...

Dimino kept his shield up as one of the brigands swung down with his sword. As Dimino kept his shield up, he noticed that the cavalier that he was aiding was struggling as he was being overrun by the brigands. Damn these brigands, he needs my help and fast! Dimino thought. Thankfully, it seems that relief came in the aid of a burst of light...literally! Dimino quickly glanced in the direction he thought the light blast came from, but quickly shifted his attention back on the brigand that had him pinned down.
He rose his shield and forced the brigand to be disarmed from the sudden blow. As the brigand looked at where his sword flew with a concerned look in his eyes, Dimino rose his lance and drove it into the brigands shoulder, causing the brigand to fall to his knees in pain. As Dimino looked around, he saw that some mercenaries have came to aid with the remaining bandits. As Dimino looked around, he spotted what looked to be the young bowman that he spotted earlier, and what looked to be the source of the aid. A light magic user of sorts. He couldn't let himself get distracted though! He quickly charged in their direction as he spotted another axe wielding bandit approach them. He used his shield to bash the axe wielder aside as Dimino pointed his lance at the brigand. "You will not win against me!" he said. Taking the statement as a taunt of sorts, the axeman rose his axe in his attempts to chop Diminos head off only to be met with his rose shield. Now, all Dimino can do is hope that the bowman and light mage have some sort of plan to finish off the brigands before he, the cavalier, and the mercenaries who seemed to have came to aid the village get overrun!
