Name: Aliora Ihindo Mirhir
Class: Troubadour
Dragon Element: N/A
Age: 21
Born in: Foxaoss Forest/Vinland
Appearance: I’m relatively new to roleplay (D&D aside) so please bear with me =). I have sketches and better splices that I might add later if this gets accepted.
Aliora has black hair with the front often facing to her left. Her hair does not extent past her shoulders. She often has a stern face among strangers in an attempt to keep them away. Her eyes are relatively big and have a kobichi-brown hue. Most notable about her appearance is a scar across her right cheek which looks as if it’s the result of a cut. However, the scar isn’t completely obvious as her skin has the same white-colored complexion (A good reference of her face would be Rhajat without the headband.). She also wears a necklace of what seems to be a crystal. She has an average height of about 1.70 meters (5-6 feet) and prefers to wear robes. The colors she usually wears are shades of white, red and black. The closest body type she has would be endomorphic: she has a slender body though not very tall.
Personality: Aliora is usually rather shy. She tends to stay away from other people’s business, though she does care a lot for people she knows well, such as family. Even though she often seems lost, when focusing on her surroundings she’s known to be rather meticulous. Because of a traumatic event (explained in backstory) she unconsciously developed a second personality (multiple personality disorder [MPD]) to make her able to cope with it. Since Aliora has an alter ego, her personality does change a lot.
Her first personality doesn’t show much contemplation. Though she’s more expressive than her alter ego, she can still be shy at times. This personality follows more along the lines of her younger self: carefree and kind when people approach her. She’s caring and trustworthy, if people need help chances are she is going to help. Her hobbies include taking care of animals, reading books and taking strolls. She pays attention to detail when focused.
Her second personality is more difficult to pin down. Switching over to this personality can be triggered at random or by prompting memories of her trauma. She justifies her actions more easily than her alter ego, such as hunting or being selfish. Her trauma is still branded in her mind and avoids any thought on the matter. She acts depressed around others and usually avoids any social interaction. Because she finds herself weak for only being able to heal others, she reads a lot about dark magic and the harmful properties of staffs. Because of her psychological issues, she has developed multiple tics. She has to use her hands at all times, such as rubbing her clothing or tapping on a book. Though it’s not severe, she tends to stammer sometimes while talking though not as a result of being shy. She is often lost in thought but doesn’t mind. The more she’s referred to the past, the more unpredictable, emotional and aggressive she becomes.
There are also similarities between both personalities. In general, Aliora enjoys reading and appreciates isolation. She only responds to the name Aliora; she does not differentiate between names. Neither personality is aware the other exists. Both personalities can develop affection towards others, though it’s significantly easier for the first personality to do so. Both personalities lack a goal to work towards and are looking for one. An important difference to note would be that the personalities do not share direct memories, though they can be present in fragments. Memories are more available to the second personality, as it is branched out on the first/original. After switching, Aliora often experiences blackouts and confusion.
History: During Aliora’s youth, she has always been one to follow orders. She lacked assertiveness which made her go the direction of healing instead of hurting others. Aliora grew up in an isolated village within Foxaoss Forest. Her parents had three daughters and one son, named Aliora, Chiso, Nana and Allurn respectively. Her mother was a successful hunter for the village while her father enjoyed staying at home taking care of the children. Chiso and Allurn both looked up to their mother and tried to go into the same direction as her. In contrast, Aliora and Nana looked up more to their father and developed a need of caring for people. Whereas Aliora and Nana would often stay at home playing together, the other two went along hunting with their mother.
At the age of fifteen, Aliora joined the local church. This church had political control over most of the village. She was interested in learning the basics of healing, not just for the purpose of healing others but to help her family if something went wrong during a hunt. Nana, on the other hand, wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. Even though Aliora didn’t appreciate the leading roles of the church, she kept learning because of interest. She would spend most of her time in the church learning more advanced techniques than her peers. During some weeks, she even spent more time learning than being at home. This was quite an adjustment for the sister dynamic she had with Nana.
By the age of nineteen, Aliora made a lot of progress compared to her skill when she began training. She became quite familiar with church members. One could say the church had become one of the most important things in her life. Unfortunately, one evening her training session got interrupted. The church consisted mostly of healers and mages, most of which seemed to be running towards the main floor. Aliora, sensing people were in need of help, followed her comrades. Suddenly, she got grabbed by the shoulder and was being escorted by one of the church’s leaders. Disoriented, Aliora looked around and saw four people lined up on a stage. She was unable to see their faces, their bodies were robed and faces covered by sheets. With about twenty members of the church looking at the stage, behind every robed person a mage or healer was being lined up. One of these people was Aliora. Leaders of the church claimed the robed people were evil, seeking destruction of their town and had to be eliminated. Aliora, full of disbelief, had never killed someone before. She occasionally saw an animal killed when joining her mother on a hunt and even then she felt incredible compassion for its death. As she got handed a knife, the ethical dilemma rampaged her mind. She couldn’t. Some people in the crowd started to encourage the killing. Meanwhile, leaders of the church started pushing their disciples to kill. “The church requires you to continue.”, one proclaimed. The church meant everything to her, maybe if she’d do it fast it wouldn’t--, before she could finish her thought, a leader in her posterior grabbed her hand and slit the throat of her victim for her. Trembling, she dropped the knife. Her victim dropped to the ground, gurgling. Two other mages performed the task as well, though on their own. One cleric refused to kill his victim, instead one of the leaders did. At this point, most of the people in the crowd were cheering. This only added to Aliora’s disorientation, who started throwing up off stage. The archbishop, Zenu, stepped forward and demanded for the head covers be removed. As his disciples removed them, Aliora looked her victim in the eyes; it was Nana. She couldn’t think, her mind was blocked. Flabbergasted, she needed air. Trying to force her way outside through the cheering crowd, she arrived at the front gate. She kept running into the forest, not looking backwards.
Aliora’s mother was not only a talented huntress. She was also quite an important army figure in the village. Even though the church had the most influence over people in town, their town defense was also their only line of defense. Because of this, important members of the militia also had influence over the town. The archbishop was afraid he would lose his power over subordinates and townsfolk and devised a plan to keep this in order. Three of the victims were either militia leaders or relatives, the other one was randomly chosen in an attempt to hide the scheme. The killing would result in the militia leaders dead or psychologically damaged which would reduce the chances of them taking over. They could blame the incident on a group apprentices, which would have less credibility than the leaders of the church. Aliora happened to have left already which gave enough leeway to explain the false story to her family.
The four days after the incident were mostly spent in a state of blackout for Aliora. She doesn’t remember most of the details during those days, just that she decided to go back for her family. Once she arrived home, she was unable to tell what she felt. ‘Heartbroken’ didn’t even come close. Before she was able to open the door, she heard her mother’s voice. “Y-you.”, she said. Aliora turned around and looked her mother straight in the eyes. She saw Nana in them, she looked a lot like her. That thought made Aliora cry. Her mother was mumbling, she seemed unintelligible. Undisclosed to Aliora, the church had told her family a group of disciples, including Aliora, had killed her and others for reasons unknown to the church. Her mother grabbed one of her arrows and charged at her, swinging near her throat. Aliora hadn’t been in any battles before and was only able to dodge partially. The arrow crossed the right side of her face, leaving behind a deep cut. Her mother fell to the ground. Horrified, she heard her mother tell her to leave. Aliora had lost all sense of understanding at this point and ran back into the woods.
During the two years after that not much has happened. Aliora tries to stay away from others and lives by herself most of the time. She does have occasional blackouts and is still suffering mentally/psychologically from the traumatizing event. She travels around by horse (tamed, thought by mother).
NPC fight: After leaving the marketplace, I notice a commotion at the end of the street. A man set in heavy armor seems to be scolding a dubious figure holding a knife. "Hand back that blade to him this instant!", the shielded man yells. I feel forced to intervene for the mechant's sake. As I approach the scene, the shady man takes a swift swing at what seems to be a guard up close. The blade hits the guard in between armor plates and lets out a discomforted groan. As if it's a reflex, I lift up my staff to reduce his suffering. It appears to have worked, since the guard regains his strength and knocks the thief on the floor by bashing his shield. Other guards hastely grab the thief and escort him away. While the guard looks at his stomach, confused as to what happened to his wound, I hide behind a barouche. Adrenaline is coursing through my veins and my heart is pounding. (...)
PC fight: As the greatswords of them cross I can see Zia having trouble parrying the strike. Zia falls to the ground, looking around in a bemused state. After running three steps I slam the hilt of my staff into the man's face, not seeming to do much but distract. I reach out for Zia hoping she notices and recovers. (...)
If there’s anything I need to change or if there are any suggestions, I’d be happy to know =). I think I’d usually write better but having to summarize things and writing it from an omniscient narrator kind of perspective makes it seem a little like summing up things.
