Sundered Heart - Alistair
Name: Alistair
Class: Wyvern Rider
Age: 22
Born in: Macendew, Bern
Personality: A man who hides a torn heart with his affable nature. Outgoing and high energy, Alistair keeps himself in great shape and does his best to keep his mind and body busy. Works as a freelance merc but also takes courier jobs to satisfy that aim. If poked or questioned on the subject, one may find that Alistair claims not to care much for patriotism and nationalism alike, though whether this is true or just a result of him misplacing his conflicted emotions regarding his family situation in want of closure or out of guilt is uncertain.
He has a great love for flying as well as combat, and a strong bond with his wyvern Penthesilea, otherwise known as Pen or Penny. He's a "man's man", getting on fine with other mercs and adventurers, but tends to seem aloof towards soldiers and knights if a bit stiff and wary. He seems to crave something more from life but actively restrains his own ambitions.
Alistair tries to keep cool and maintain a certain degree of distance from others, but he has a soft heart deep down. He has trouble saying no to people in need, and even when he states he wants payment for his aid, he'll often leave those he's helped before they pay him. If confronted about this he'll say something like "Huh? Aw, damn it! I forgot again! ...Eh, can't be helped". How much of that is an act versus the truth is a mystery, given Alistair is fairly driven by gold.
Tends to avoid Bern and Ilia, but he'll go there if there's good money in it. Quite fond of Lycia, since the monster crisis makes for good business. He seems to possess no real goals for himself beyond becoming rich, yet he actively avoids speaking too much on his future when the subject comes up. Alistair is fairly defensive about his past as well, though he can oft be seen writing letters in the dead of night.
History: Son of a Bernese Wyvern Rider and an Ilian Pegasus Knight whose family was torn apart by the Ilian occupation of Bern, along with the Bernese Rebellion. Eldest of several siblings (Ygritte, Lothar, Skadi) he was left in charge when it came to shielding his younger siblings from the spats their parents would get into. It was a rowdy household for as long as he could remember, but Karls and Sigrun loved and respect each other deeply, and the family was carried by their strong bond through even the toughest of times.
His parents both warriors of above average prowess, Alistair was raised a warrior so that he could protect himself and the family when his parents could not. Both parents taught him of the spear and passed down lessons in riding, as such Alistair is privy to riding techniques common across the Bernese military as well as tricks that the pegasus knights of Ilia use, though not all of them transfer over well to wyvernback. He was trained in combat off wyvern back as well as some hand to hand, but mostly enough to hold his own rather than to dominate experienced infantry - though with further training he and Penthesilea could make for a deadly duo when he's off of her as well as on.
Karls and Sigrun served Bern during the civil war and survived, but family life had become very tense afterwards. When Hargus essentially took full power Sigrun demanded the family relocate to Ilia. The family uprooted and crossed borders into Ilia, but Alistair’s father never came with them. Whereas their mother was an Ilian mercenary, their father was a loyal knight proper and valued his title and his nation too much to abandon them. This was the final break between the two parents, and Alistair’s mother was never quite the same after this.
Alistair had been raised to fly and had raised a wyvern with his father’s aid - Penny. Alistair helped support the family doing small courier runs on his wyvern while his mother continued work as a mercenary. When Bern finally fell, Alistair’s mother took a job to serve as part of the occupation force in Bern. She claimed it was for Ilia and for the pay, but Alistair believed she wanted to see if his father had survived - and in time he followed her, around the days when the rebellion picked up steam.
What Alistair saw when he tracked his mother down in Bern, passing as an Ilian mercenary who opted for wyvern over a horse, he’s never said. All that is known is that neither of his parents have ever returned to their home in Ilia - and Alistair now travels Lycia in search of constant work and training.
