Marle was skeptical of Syana and her commitment. With as bad a leg injury as that, she would have a terrible time crossing these mountains. Still, she had no authority to tell the mercenary to turn back and seek treatment. Syana was older than her, and would just not be proper, not to mention rude.
Nodding slowly, she slowly began to climb the semi-steep slope, grabbing at the rock formations which would support her weight. This was going to take awhile, she knew that full well, and Marle wasn't exactly thrilled about heading back into Ilia, but if she was, Arphen wouldn't be too far away atleast, and if Saturos was still alive...
Marle shook her head and proceeded ever forwards, minutes passed, and looking below, the ground was already a small thing. Still, something bothered her....she hadn't found any notice of Parry anywhere at this point...had they come the wrong way?
No! That couldn't be possible! While her mind was distracted, she slipped hr grip, and gave a small yelp, hanging tightly with the other hand and tried to find proper footing before putting her hand back on the ledge.
"I hate these mountains!"

The wingbeats of the flying wyvern repeated rhythmically as it soared through the air. Saturos, having gone numb from all of the pain, was almost relaxed. His eyes flickered open, being met by the bright light of the sun in the distance. It wasn't even noon yet, and he was already being eaten. Guess wyverns had different food cycles than humans. It made sense.
He couldn't really see the rest of his body, but it was probably full of holes. How much blood had he lost? The numbness showed that he had lost a lot, but was it fatal yet? Saturos didn't really want to die right here. It wouldn't be very much fun. Nobody would even know he was gone. What would his mother think?
The rhythm of the wyvern's wings was thrown off as it soared in to land. It swooped down, landing on top of a massive boulder. The impact jarred Saturos before he felt himself falling, unceremoniously hitting the ground. Looking up, he noticed the wyvern loping away, sniffing the air as it went. Was Saturos to be food, or just a trophy, or had he been spirited away in a reptilian fit of passion?
"I'm going to die if I don't do something," thought the myrmidon. Using what energy he had left, he patted himself down, finding his vulnerary. He uncorked the medicinal bag and began to pour its contents over himself, rubbing the salve into his wounds with his other hand. It wouldn't restore the lost blood, but it would keep Saturos from losing any more.
As the healing set in, Saturos's numbness wore off and he began to feel the pain in his wounds. It was excruciating, but at least it told him he was still alive. Regaining some energy from the life giving medicine, Saturos propped himself up on a rock to look himself over. The wounds had been deep, and he probably still had some internal damage, but if he could get away from that wyvern, he'd probably live.

Syana was a little big below Marle when the knight's grip slipped. For a second she panicked; if the knight fell, she'd fall into her and she really couldn't afford any more broken bones. Luckily, Marle regained her grip and Syana let out a sigh of relief. "If it makes you feel any better, I think these mountains hate us right back."
The mercenary then got back to climbing. Surprisingly, she wasn't having that hard a time. The arm strength she had developed while carrying her sword made it easier to support her body weight with only one leg. She was careful not to use her injured one, but also careful that it didn't smash off anything. "Nothing like a mid-morning climb, huh?" She joked

Marle kind of laughed and kind of grumbled at Syana's remark, as she pulled herself up continuously until she was, what seemed to be the top of this part of the mountain. it had been a long climb up, and it was like a narrow valley at the top, something Marle had not come to expect. The cold here however, she did expect, and immediately missed the fur lining she kept on her armor. Marle turned and helped Syana up until she too, was on top of this plateau.
Breathing roughly in the altitude of the air, Marle sat with her legs out, the recruit armor she wore was terribly heavy at the moment. Climbing was just not her thing...and Marle was terribly afraid of heights, but was beginning to overcome them. Slowly standing, she looked around in the valley before her. Further to the north, the mountains continued to rise, those were the real challenges, but here, it was rocky with large slopes, hardly a valley per-say, but it was a break from the constant vertical climb.
"I can't see a beast of cold blood going any higher than this area...past those mountains is Ilia, if I remember correctly, and its far too cold for Wyverns to casually live in..."

Syana gave Marle a small smile as the recruit helped her onto the plateau. She took a few moments to catch her breath before she answered. "I agree... There's no way..." She started to scan the surrounding area to see if she could see anything.
"I don't see them..." she sighed. Leaning heavily on a rock, she slid down onto her rear and leaned her head back. Her leg was throbbing painfully, so she took this time to let it through. She knew there probably wouldn't be enough time for it later, so it was now or never. Gritting her teeth, she tightened the wrapping on her leg and applied another layer. The should hold for a while.
"Where to now?"

Marle didn't respond to Syana just yet, her lance dug down into the rocky terrain as she leaned on it, the thin one foot blade at the tip glimmered through the blood stain that Marle had left on it's blade. It had hardened now in the cold air, and she wouldn't likely get the blade back to it's pristine shine it had before.
Frowning, she peered around. Where they were currently didn't offer too much visibility to this new height, much others were higher still. She stayed quiet listening to the wind, hoping that it carried sound in her direction, instead of away from her ears, and then, she head it.
Marle gave a turn around, looking in the opposite direction she had been, and could hear more clearly, the rumbling roar over the air. it could have been just wind, but no...not that...marle had heard that sound the last time she crossed the mountain with Saturos and Darion, the mercenary whom she and Saturos left in the town to be attended.
With determined green eyes, she pointed her slim lance in the direction she heard it come from, and exclaimed a bit loudly.
"There! Over there! I SWEAR I heard it!"
Marle didn't wait up, she took off at a sprint, which was nothing magnificent as the armor slowed her down to be too fast, but she wouldn't stop because of that, she had revenge in order for the large beast, she would take it down, and she would live, because dieing was not an option.
"I'm coming for you. Just hold on Saturos."

At Marle's sudden reaction, Syana was caught by surprised. It took the merc a few seconds to register what had happened. When she finally did, she awkwardly got to her feet she hurried after her. She didn't hear what the recruit did, but she believed what she said. She readied her sword as they ran, unsure exactly what they would run into but she had an idea it wouldn't be something good. She finally caught up to Marle and fell instep beside her.

Marle moved as quickly as she could through the rocks and small trails in the valley of stones. She displayed a look of desperation, and soon moved to climb over a large rock formation as if it were a hill, and then proceeded to stop, and look around, having believed to come a fair distance towards the sound by now.
She was panting heavily, out of breath from carrying the armor and lance, not to mention sprinting in them. She doubled over and clutched her stomach, trying to get wind back into her lungs, with sweat running down her face. Not even noon yet, and already sweating, not a good thing.
As she stood still despite her heavy breathing causing her to rise and fall slightly, she could hear the growl audibly now much, much closer. Looking up, she clutched her chest and looked around, seeing a large Wyvern perched on top of a great boulder, it's wings fanned out and gave another triumphant roar.
Marle winced at the ear-piercing sound the wyvern bellowed out, but with a determined grip, she moved at a more cautious pace. The creature hadn't seen them yet, she thought, though, if they had surprise on their side, Marle didn't know what she would do when they got there...if Saturos was okay though...well, that was good enough for her.
Slowly, and warily, she lead Syana through the rocks and naturally formed stone pillar formations towards the beast.

The wyvern's loud roar jarred Saturos. He had developed a fierce migraine due to the pain, and loud noises, like this wyvern's roar, were not conducive to his peace of mind. Clutching his head and chest, the injured myrmidon rolled over on his side. He was tempted to use another vulnerary, but he reminded himself that his last vulnerary had healed all of the major wounds. Anything left wasn't going away with another one. They weren't pain killers.
Slowly gazing around, Saturos noticed a person, no, two people standing higher up on the rocks. They were slowly approaching the wyvern. He strained his eyes to get a closer look. One of the people's heads was distinctly red. Syana? That meant the other one was Marle. Saturos was tempted to get their attention, but realized that would be a foolish course of action. Not only would it attract the wyvern, but if they knew he was here, they'd probably try and save him. Right now, the swordsman was just dead weight, and he knew it.
He'd just have to hope they kill the wyvern.

Syana tightened the grip on her sword. As she surveyed the area, looking from Saturos to the wyvern. It would take a well planned-out maneuver to kill the beast and not hurt the myrmidon more. She let out a low breath. "This isn't going to be easy..." They'd need to aim for the head. Anything but a swift kill could lead to a lot of trouble. All three of them were hurt and any fight would not be a good idea. "Looks like we have one real shot at this... What do you think?"

Marle nodded to Syana, but she was still looking around, and thought she saw Saturos there on the ground, but at this distance, she couldn't see if he was alive or dead at the moment. Still, she was atleast happy to find him, and that took a large burden off her shoulders. propping he lance up against her shoulder, it wouldn't take long for the Wyvern to see them at this rate.
"But of course!"
Marle flashed a wry grin towards the mercenary as she bobbed her lance back, tapping it against her shoulder plating...she would enjoy this, even if it brought her to death.
"One shot is all we ever get, sort of like life, in a way....well, best not to screw this chance up! We need to get it away from there...I'll go make a distraction.."
Halting her motions for a moment, she took Saturos' Iron sword from her belt loop, and held it awkwardly in her hand. She had to get this back to the myrmidon somehow, and gave it to Syana. If she couldn't get it to him, well, perhaps she could fight with the weapon for a time, using a weapon in each hand.
"Okay, time to dance with death."
Marle moved closer now, raising her lance over her head to make herself appear bigger than she was. Animals usually did something of the sort to seem more intimidating, but to this Wyvern, she was still a small creature. Her eyes narrowed, and were as cold as the air was up here. She motioned with a hand to tell Syana to spread out, so they would not get too close.
The creature hadn't taken notice to them yet, and so, when Marle thought the distance as well as the ground was good for fighting, natural rock formations to dip and hide behind so the Wyvern would have trouble, but not too condensed that there was no hindrance to their movement. Marle released a loud yell, which carried over the distance, and definitely caught the wyvern' attention, as it turned atop it's rock and face them, wings spreading wide, and sharp claws scratching into the boulder.
With a roar, the winged lizard came at them, and landed in the opening where she had thought the battle to take place. Marle could smell the creature's breath, it was rather rank, and the blood which was congealed over it's 'lips' she knew to be Saturos' own. With a scowl, she took hold of her lance, ready to plunge it into the beast.
"Watch its movements! When t attacks one of us, it creates an opening. Careful of the tail!"
With little time else, the wyvern reared it's head, and lurched forwards, trying to bite the recruit from top down into those jaws. Marle wouldn't be so slow get caught already, and dove to the side, but while on the ground, she thrust upwards, aiming for the lizard's vulnerable neck, but instead caught it in the side of the head, piercing it's tough leathery scales with a powerful thrust of her arm, which made the creature rear back with a howl.

Syana had to give a little grin when Marle gave her Saturos' sword. She had always wanted to try dual-wielding. She watched the recruit slowly move around and the provoke the wyvern. As she pierced it's head, Syana rushed at it from the back. Continuing her plan from the last battle, she spotted the gash she had made in its tail. With a powerful swing from Saturos' blade in the left hand, and an even more powerful right-handed follow up with her own blade, both blows landed right where she had hit it last time.
This time, they worked.
The combined force of the blows was enough to sever the tail. Syana didn't even take the time to smile that her plan worked. In a quick motion, she tossed Saturos' blade down to the injured swordsman, that way if they failed he still had a chance in defending himself. Then she readied for an attack. She had a feeling the wyvern wouldn't be too happy it no longer had a tail.

Beware the tail indeed! Hah, good job Syana..
Marle gave a small grin as she watched the reature rear back as a portion of the wyvern's tail lay on the ground, hacked apart by the mercenary's fine work with the blade, but the creature hadn't given up just then, spinning as it did, with a powerful flap of it's wings that actually pushed Marle back to the ground as she had begun to stand back up.
Those large slitted eyes narrowed on the red-headed woman who had done wrong against it. Brandishing claws, the wyvern swiped with great speed towards Syana.
Finally getting back on her feet, Marle looked at the Wyvern a bit shakily, but she regained her ground once more under those blue painted steel greaves, and charged forwards aiming for the vulnerable flanks of the monster. With her lance drawn back, she thrust forwards with the long bladed weapon, and then proceeded to cleave upwards as she withdrew, tearing a larger hole in the lizard, but as her lance withdrew with speed, a fair amount of blood splashed back onto her armor into her face as well as her hair.
This caused Marle to look away for a second or two as the creature cried in its pain, rounding back on Marle, but not swiping with forelegs, but turning and kicking the recruit a fair distance which landed her upon her back with a wheeze. Her back was already sore, and this wasn't helping, being tossed around like a doll. With the butt of her lance, she began to slowly proper herself up.
The Wyvern looked strained, like it was losing energy, possibly from the blood loss of having no complete tail, combined with the blow just received about half a foot forwards from it;s left hind leg...but the animal was still full of fight, snarling, and growling as it would between the two of them.

Saturos watched as his sword came falling from above, landing a few feet away from him. Grunting, he slowly crawled over to his sword, grasping it firmly, then slid the blade into its sheath. Glad to have his weapon back, he looked up at the two girls. Judging by the broken and battered state of the wyvern, they seemed to be doing pretty well. That was good, because he was in no condition to help them. Hell, he couldn't even walk. Resigning himself to his current, miserable state, Saturos crawled under a rock for safety.
In the distance, however, was someone who could help. Panting, Parious, the grizzled axe-fighter, stood atop a boulder ridge. He had lost the wyvern after tripping over a log and falling into a ravine, but had managed to climb out and relocate the beast from its continued howls and shrieks. "Somebody is already fighting the creature," he said to himself, looking at the thrashing wyvern in the distance. "Satty better be alright, or I'll kill him myself." Axe in hand, Parry jumped down from the boulder he was standing on and ran down the ridge, picking up speed and kicking up dirt and rocks as he sprinted. By the time he reached the bottom, the older man was going full throttle. He was surprisingly fit for somebody his age. "I'll crush your bones, ya damned beast!"

With a quick burst of speed and a leap, Syana flung herself at the wyvern's back. With the full force of her weight behind her, she drove her sword deep into the beast's back. It was at this time that she heard Parry's shouts and a wave of relief washed over her. He was ok. She pushed off the wyvern, her sword sliding loose as she did. She did a neat flip and landed on her feet just outside the wyvern's range. "He's all yours Parry!" She shouted.
